[ANN] HYPER Zandagort Server (Cult Space MMO Strategy Game Resurrected) Is Live!

The HYPER team (HYPER ANN thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624651.0 HYPER forum: http://hypercrypto.com/forum/index.php) has successfully resurrected the indie cult space 4X MMO space game Zandagort, and we are now running the only English server of this game in the world! The game had a large cult following so we expect many old fans to come play once the news spreads. Dfletcher did an amazing job working through the Hungarian code and getting the game to display in English.

Some important points:

- This game is very slow going and is a deep, deep strategy game (but it's awesome!).
- I highly recommend checking out the tutorial at http://zandagort.com to see how to play.
- The game is provided as is, we do have plans for the future and we are backing up the database but please bear in mind it is in an open Alpha state.
- It's entirely free to play and server hosting costs and development costs are covered by the HYPER project!!
- Traditionally, the game ends after 6 months or so when a big alien army invades the whole galaxy. We will run this first server without the invading army as a test and for everyone to learn how to play. You can still make alliances with other players, trading agreements and go to war etc Have fun building your intergalactic empire In a few months we might open a vote if you guys want the aliens to arrive!

Some possible plans for the future:

- Add nice space / ambient background music
- Integrate HYPER into the in-game free market trading platform the game already has
- Accept HYPER as a payment method for upgraded accounts
- There is no ETA on the above plans yet - we will see how popular the game is!

I can't wait to see it implemented. And great idea on adding counterstrike, but not all can play because it is not free, but there is a space themed fps that is free. It built up quite a following for some time so if you have room to add additional server space for it then it might help as well.

Tribes Ascend - free - It has a in-game money scheme that you earn for playing and can purchase from the creators. Maybe hi-rez can be approached or if not then an offsite exchange for HYPER to tribes money, but I do not think that would work bc I believe there is no way to exchange those tokens from user to user. Feel sure some sort of work around could be figured out.

Before that was Tribes 2 which they charged top dollar for, but it didn't really ever caught on primarily because "skiing"/game gravity  was changed drastically.

But the original had a huge following that has fallen off in the last 10 years. It had many mods that were developed.
It was called Starsiege: Tribes. It is also free.

After starsiege tribes and before tribes 2 is when Unreal Tournament was released (if I remember correctly). You can see the huge amount of similarities between the two.

Anyway, just a thought.

Critical Update!

I actually have found a Hungarian Zandagort developer who will be helping us set up a HYPER / SHY (the in-game currency) exchange in Zandagort! Players will be able to deposit HYPER and trade them for SHY on a free market where the value is set by players trading with each other. The game will also contain a free market where players can trade other in-game resources for SHY.

If all goes well I will also be looking at adding in-game galactic securities which pay out in HYPER, SHY or other resources in Zandagort in game. Anyone will be able to set up these galactic securities. Exciting times!

These changes are so far reaching we may need to reset the Zandagort server. But it will be worth it and I will give plenty of notice! Further changes after this will be added to the existing game.

Important update regarding Zandagort the dev is trying to get the game stable with 8000 planets (so we can have lots of players and worlds) and the dev is still performance testing this. We will be running an updated version of Zandagort that is a bit more slick than the version we are currently running. Also, testing for the HYPER integration will also be taking place during the next week! This doesn't mean it will definitely be launched in a week but I wanted to give you all an update.

I played this game for 3 yrs on the old site. 5 servers. It can be a lot of fun especially when the aliens come to destroy everything. They do destroy everything including planets. Most battles are a toss up with a slight favor to the humans. I've seen the aliens win the game however. Hopefully the game gets some interest again. You have to build huge epic fleets as you will loose most if not all your planets.

Our server will not have Zandagort come at the end, so that it is a persistent space strategy MMO.

Yeah what happened? Did HYPER give up on it. Its a long term sim and i was playing for a few months now and now its been down a week. I figured it was from the holidays but now I am worried.
