Hello! I'm newbie in this world. Can anybody help me? I've heard such term as "next generation coins" manytimes, but google is pretty bad about it. could you explain:
1) is "next generation coins" real term or it's marketing ploy?
2) if it's real - do you have some links about? i'm interested on it.
first you have bitcoin as first generation
then you have a lot of 1st gen clones, that just take the wallet and chang the algorithm a little or some other specs. some even don't change anything.
- litecoin (the first, and as it was long time asic resistant quite popular)
- dogecoin
- peercoin (the first pos, thats why its quite popular)
- namecoin
- quarkcoin
- darkcoin (not sure how much they took from the original qt, but i would call it 1st generation, the first good anon implementation, thats why its popular)
...
then you have NXT. The first from ground new written coin with a better frontend and real new features. Real pos forging and so on.
This is called a second generation coin. There are also a few clones of it:
- NAS
- NHZ
- NFD
- N2
...
they could be called 2nd generation coins because they base on a second generation coin, but they will be about like the clones of bitcoin were, maybe a little better.
there are also some other from ground new programmed coins, that could be called 2nd generation:
bytecoin (which is claimed to be "released" already in 2012) and its fairer and same popular clone monero as well as their later and less popular clones
Qora and its coming clone Kora
currently we are waiting for a few coins, that also could be called 2nd generation or maybe even 2.5 or 3rd generation because of new features:
NEM (Proof of Importance + decentralized trust handling)
maidsafe (decentralized encrypted storage)
etherum (decentralized applications)
eXoCoin
