1) Scam (premine then dumb) - 3 types of people participate - Scammer (dev) + Pumper (play the fish) + Fish (get it late)
2) Actual innovative currency that has a chance long-term

The reason to make a new one is because there is meant to be an ecosystem.

Coins are not there for new people to find and mine, coins are there to trade for one another and support bitcoin.

NEW coins made (by you) are for you and your friends to mine, or for your school to mine, or for your team to mine, or for your WoW clan to mine, or whatever.
Then those coins are to be traded for other coins and used to support Bitcoin.

The Future of Funding & Promotions: Micro-Currency (company/charity/group based alt coins)

Intro:Anyone that is new to the altcoin world, I just want to let you know that there are literally HUNDREDS of altcoins and they are all essentially just copies of Bitcoin. Not many are like this, with new structures that allow for growth outside of mining (which is a techy term for producing coins) and trade. Creating an economy outside of mining, sales and forex is unheard of outside of these new coins. Your company could be one of the first companies to make one of its own.

Altcoins will allow charities and organizations to OWN a currency that they control. You will not answer to us, it will be yours. All you need to make one is people from this website, or one of your friends that understands C++ coding needs to read this thread, then do a little more research on this website, then they can make one for you.

And to anyone new to the Bitcoin world, Bitcoins are worth $200 each (for now) and you can trade Altcoins for Bitcoins

So, everyone is hearing or has heard about Bitcoins. The Silk Road is down, Bitpay is up and ATMs are actually being placed in the streets (at least one in Canada).

Pretty soon the only question left about Bitcoin will be "How do I get them?" and sure, the answer "You mine them or buy them" works for most people right now...

But what about when Bitcoin is being considered by people in poverty as a means to pull themselves up by their boot straps? What about when it is being talked about in every highschool in the country, and kids too young to work and not computer literate enough to mine want to get them?

The answer will be "Alt-coins". Altcoins are not the competition of Bitcoin, Altcoins are the future of Bitcoin. In the future altcoins will each have a "niche", so as to attract new people to Bitcoin, as well as support lifestyles of people who can not mine or buy the coins.

Devcoin and Tagcoin look promising. As Writing and Rewards are both great incentives, but what about the other coins? What value are they to someone who does not have the ability to mine?

Schools could use coins as booster promotions, by asking students to use their home computers to mine for coins that can be spent at the school. And the school can have a program where 25% of the coins are generated to a wallet for them. Then they make an altcoin thread and advertise it in the morning announcements. School funding problem SOLVED.

Or imagine if a mom and pop sandwich shop did the same. And offered sandwhiches for coins? They could not only boost local bitcoin interest, they would make money on a coin that they produced.

In addition to my suggestion of school based and community coins for groups or businesses...

Imagine if instead of other forums hating on coins (It's basically taboo on most forex forums, and other forums to mention coins and tell people to buy them) , it became a trend on the internet for forum owners to come here and find coin creators, then get coins created for their forum.

What if we had a trend of FORUM based coins. Kinda like how this forum is based on bitcoin, so it exploded. If a forum with millions of daily hits (say...GaiaOnline, since it is a major forum that already uses coins, and has a largely non-bitcoin crowd as of now) started a 50% mine-able, limited production coin (instead of the coin they have now which you earn for doing things on the site, but can not be taken off the site, and is like WoW gold instead of bitcoins). That coin would probably be the most popular altcoin OVER NIGHT.

We just need to realize that altcoins are never going to over take bitcoin, all they can hope to do is support it.

And here is another example of a reason for someone to make a coin. Once there are phones that can mine like computers, there will be new coins that are MEANT to be mined on those phones.

Same as there is like ASIC coin and stuff because ASICs exist.

Hence, developing a whole slew of altcoins, treated as commodities, not currency, specifically for one niche comprised of myriad brands, most all desiring to augment their current revenue stream, with them and their countless followers doing most the sneezing for each individual alt.

No pump-and-dumps. No bots. No other negative attributes contributed to current altcoins, with hopes of not creating new negs in the process.

And, the beauty part of it is that holders of one brand's alts will be willing and able to readily trade for another on one dedicated exchange, with some altcoins breaking out to be traded on one or more of the current venerable exchanges after reaching some threshold, but pulled if they start to underperform, yet will always be available on our niche's exchange unless the notable backing an alt using their brand decides to pull the plug, in which case there'll be literally tens of thousands more altcoins to fill that void.

For you guys having strong opinions on the hundreds of altcoins now, wait till this time next year when you witness thousands, and that's just tickling the surface of what's yet to come, especially when the plan is to send permission-based marketing emails to subscribers consisting of copy akin to...

Hopefully people catch on soon.

I can't wait for the first announcement that a school is mining. Can you imagine if a school made a coin and got mining rigs for the library and rented them out to students that wanted to earn some extra money.
It would CHANGE the Crypto scene completely. There would be teachers and students from all over the country coming to ask questions.

And, it WILL happen, once a formidable niche, of which I'm developing to get them masses on board comes to fruition. When entities such as schools see it done elsewhere, with an entry learning curve minimized, the skies the limit.

"Shaka, when the walls fell." is no longer an option unless one chooses it to be.

as finshaggy(aka Bitcoin-hotep )said.

its for normal people to mine and trade for bitcoins. what he then did not mention is that those that originally held bitcoins are then holding a bag of worthless coins.

the only "good cause" of this is that instead of donating to a school with bitcoins by simply donating.. the school gives you a bag of worthless alts. and this is then used as a receipt/certificate/proof that you donated.

basically you can wave your bag of shitcoin with pride above your head as it proves you donated coins to the school.

so treat altcoins as a 'certificate of donation'. you might be lucky to find others to buy your certificate of donation (altcoin) off you, so that the other person then can show that they have handed over bitcoins.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Lol, great minds think alike.

What do you think about things like Devcoin? Try to get the community out of your head. Most of the people that use it are trolls, and hold on for dear life so hard that they kill the coin because there are none left on the market to buy when EVERYONE holds.

BUT, it does have a good model. 90% of the coins SOME HOW get sent to people that write for them. This means that 90% of their coins go to people that have NO IDEA how to mine, and then moves in to the crypto ecosystem, allowing NON tech minded people to break in to the market.

Do you think any other coins will be made this way? Because I think it is the ONLY way to get to the masses.
Like what if there was a forum coin, and you got it for using their forum and liking posts on the forum and stuff? That would change shit.

Bitcoins will not become worthless, other coins will simply pop up around it and support it.

And you are missing a HUGE point. This "shit coin" would not be like a regular altcoin, it would have the support of a school. An entity which can send out flyers or even make an announcement telling the students how to mine or earn coins for schoolwork or extra curricular stuff or something.

And if ANY coin starts up with a community like that (Schools, Franchises, etc) they will rise to the top QUICKLY simply because they already have fans that are willing to do things for them. So they will not be working from scratch as a small community of fringe developers that may or may not be being paid.

Like McDonalds, if they made a coin TODAY and started accepting coins for french fries, we would see a massive spike in Bitcointalk.org members, as well as the surge of McDonalds coin threads and value of the coin itself.

And if someone made a coin for their War Craft clan or Facebook Group they could all use their computers to mine when they were not online doing things, and they could trade their coins for things like Warcraft gold, or to pay someone to fertilize their farm on farmville.

I have not really been paying attention for the past few months.
Which altcoins are doing what right now?

DOGE is probably the last new coin I heard of if I remember correctly. It was at least the last one that stuck in my mind.

There is so many threads complaining about so many alts.
Why?
Why so many and Why make another one?

Case in point: here is another thread along virtually the same issue made 6 hours prior to yours.

The problem is not the NUMBER of coins being created, the problem is the GOAL of coins being created.

They are either created for no reason other than to try to create a new altcoin community and pull from the old altcoin community, or to mine a coin that is not as hard to mine as other coins.

What people NEED to be thinking when they make a coin is "How can I get NEW PEOPLE in to the altcoin community" or else you are making a shit coin.
