How does Bitcoin protect its self from double spend attacks?

It doesn't use PoS(thank god) so even if you have 99% of the coin supply, you cannot do a doublespend, only with 50% hashwpoer, and even if a doubespend attack was about to be done, it had mechanisms to stop it.

The wallet (and code) of the majority of the coins is derived from the bitcoin wallet, so even the coins should have the same controls and mechanisms, IMHO.

Regarding the difficulty of a 51% hashpower attack, i read something, this is an excerpt:

"As you are probably aware, Ghash is by far the largest Bitcoin multipool. Their portion of the network hashing power ranges from 35% to more than 50%, and Buterin believes there is a strong indication that Ghash controls another undisclosed segment of the mining power that would bring their total share of the network to more than 75%.

The problem with Ghash controlling this much of the network is that it facilitates the possibility of a 51% attack. When a person or group has control of 51% or more of the network, he or they have a strong probability of being able to manipulate the blockchain for nefarious purposes. A 51% attack can accomplish 3 things. It can reverse transactions, which would let an attacker spend coins and then erase the transaction from the blockchain so that he never loses the coins he spends. Attackers can also exclude anyone it wants from making Bitcoin transactions. Finally, a person can use a 51% attack to censor any transaction that it wants."

That's interesting, it could be a good idea.

@Eastbay and all of You guys:
You are forgetting at least few points here:

1. The reason why beta tests haven't started yet is the double spend attack which happened yesterday. How do You imagine to start working on projects before taking care about the current main problem - double spend attack and problems connected to it? Use Your brain, there are important things and very important things.

2. If devs are scammers then why they are so honest with You, share all the informations about current problems and gives You update about these things which have to be done next (check soopy's yesterday's statement). I have a VERY SHORT explanation for You : becouse they are WORKING and didn't leave this coin. That's it.

3. All this wouldn't have happened yesterday if people would hold their coins in their wallets, not on exchanges. Face the freakin' truth here.

4. I heard some really fu#% up ideas that devs could be behind the double spend etc - WHAT?! Yeah, of course, they are soooo rich and have sooooo many coins from no-existing premine! Jesus!

To sum up: Stop crying like a damn kids here just becouse charts didn't go so freakin' high like You wanted, and You all didn't become rich in a week. Act like adults and wait at least a bit patiently for dev's updates and resolving all the problems. If You can't do even that - get back to kindergarden babies.

It is just a deduction based on the SoopY message.

But the hashpower maybe must be utilized for the subchain phase of anon process.
Or for a maxy reward block.

I won't claim to know anything about anything but, if the exchange wallets were required to stake, would this not mitigate/eliminate the feasibility of this kind of dbl spend attack?

If corp stock forums were half as crazy as this one, no one would have a job, anywhere, ever.

I want in on the double flower emergence beta. Do I just need to PM Soopy for this?

Hi everyone,

Just a heads up from chunkypools, until this issue with bittrex is resolved there may be some delays with automatic withdrawals on the NAV pool (formerly SUM2).

Your hash and coins are safe.

All the best,

Often the exchanges disable the staking feature of the their wallet, to avoid to remain with relevant sum
of coin locked during the process of stacking. So they says...

I fully agree.

I think this can be the logo, from Canyon de Chelly.
