2 active connections, and I'm only up to block 14462

Hmmm. . . and in your 'checkpoint.txt' file - what's are the latest checkpoint entries?

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Okay, I'm not sure why you're on an orphan chain, but to fix, I'd recommend restarting with a re-index

Just a quick update to let you know that there still appears to be a possible issue with orphaned chains.  I re-indexed again last night after I saw a flurry of 2.5 LTS blocks landing in the wallet, and noticed it was back to only 2 active connections.

Each time I re-index, I get off to a promising start with plenty of active connections.  Then over a period of a few hours they drop off, until eventually I seem to fall onto an orphaned chain.  I don't really want to keep re-indexing every 12 hours  Sad

checkpoint.txt is the file to keep an eye on if you think you might be in a fork . . . checkpointed blocks are final, so if your checkpoints are up to date, you're on the right chain.

Are there some reliable nodes that I could add to my .conf file?

Edit:  I've just tried re-syncing for the 4th time today.  This time I re-ninstalled everything from scratch and watched closely as the wallet attempted to sync.

It gets off to a promising start, building up to 10 active connections by around block 4000.  At block 8888 something goes wrong.  Syncing slows to a crawl, and the active connections start to drop off.  It's been 5 minutes since I saw it stall on block 8888, and the last connection has just disappeared.  So I got to 8914 and no further.

Seems very broken Sad

There is no light weight wallet yet.

It can be quite memory/processor intense to process the genesis block - that contains all the initial distributions. It can take a minute or two, you just need to be patient. After that, the system resources required are much reduced.

What's your current block and what are the last few entries in your checkpoint.txt file?

Hmmm - checkpoints should be keeping up with blocks better than that - it might be on a 30 block orphan chain - it should right after a while.

We're up to 16419 now with checkpoints right up to that block.

Hmm - are you trying to mine while synching - that might cause a problem.

I think we lost some nodes on the recent fork, so there will probably be more at the start of the synch than the end but it is a good time to be mining right now if you can get updated as the diff is way down.

Latest is 19,650 - you can always take a look at your checkpoints.txt file to see if your recent blocks have checkpoints - if they do, then you're good.

I did find some problems with the checkpoints not being imported properly on a restart  - there's some updated code in place now that should make synching go smoother.

I would like to update to the latest wallet. Which is the easiest way? Some of the messages are talking about re-index and that does not tell me anything Sad
