Well its been an interesting 2 days, someone gave me 0.0136 btc from 2 addresses then took it back last night along with another $2 i hade in that wallet. Im the first to admit i didnt have any protection on that wallet apart from a good password so i guess its a good cheap lesson 2 learn. If any1 gets free btc from anywhere lock down your wallet ASAP, it might b a scam and u loose the lot. If this has happened 2 anyone else let me know.

While a loss definitely hurts, be thankful it was only $2.

I sometimes like to imagine that someone make a mistake and send me 1 BTC  Grin

just 1 btc ? is it change your life or something?

It might not change my life but would certainly help me buy few nice things or maybe just a good laptop. As per OP, some people do random giveaways, maybe it's one of those, not long ago, someone claimed that received random 0.02 from someone. So don't worry about it.

In case that would happen, did it ever cross your mind to send the 1 BTC back to the owner? Wink

I agree. If someone sends you coins that are not your the you need to return them. It is the moral thing to do.

After a bit more investigation i looks like the payment was from freebitco.in, has anyone else been paid more than they won?
freebitco usually leave put their message/comment in their tx
maybe you can check your tx in blockchain, if there's some freebitco comment, it's from them Grin
Well it was from freebitco but i know i didnt win that much. Even if there was a mistake the cant take it back.. can they?

Don't worry, they can't take it back.  However, it's also pretty weird for them to pay more than they owed you.  Perhaps your browser was lagging behind the actual sum and you won a bet you didn't realize you made or something.

As far as figuring out who sent btc to you in general.  You can start by googling the sender's address because often it's linked to their bitcointalk profile or some other web dox.

You can check post #28 to see that OP has already lost his bitcoin just 2 days later, and OP has created a thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=704041.0) for the loss.

FreeBitco.in could have sent you the money as a teaser to get you back to their site again. For the cost of a nickel they could get you re-engaged on solving the captchas and staring at their ads again...these people with the websites are pretty smart!  Tongue

You can't unless only a single person knows that address "and even that isn't enough since it can possibly be from someone random". Anyway if the person who donated wanted you to know that person could have included a blockchain message but that didn't happen so...

It would be so expensive, 0.01 times a few hundred users or even more can cost 10BTC, even higher than their operating costs. They cannot guarantee you would go back to their site again.

It isn't possible to steal someone's wallet just by sending them a small amount. What wallet did you use? If you use brainwallet, you were most likely compromised by a weak password or you were using a shared wallet.

I believe he is using the blockchain.info wallet.

Yep thats right another thread on some idiot having his coins stolen. Long story short i had a small amount stolen from my blockchain wallet, now i didnt have any protection on this wallet other than a good password because it only had about $2 in it and its a good way 2 find out if someone is getting into my phone. So question is, i only use internet on my phone as i dont have a computer and always on the move and now ive been hacked or something whats the best way to upgrade protection on a andriod smart phone? If u need anymore info just ask.

Think of the op losing bitcoin and then receiving a random amount.
Same effect, but he would be a lot happier.  Cheesy
