Isn't Bicknellski* a thread hijacker? He hijack most threads to attack QS and Dogie. Exposing their scams(if any) is ok but he hijacks every threads. I thought this is against forum rule but I don't see any action by mods. I hope he got a warning.

* https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=76550

Well that really depends on what your opinion of what hijacking a thread is.  If it's posting off-topic, then yes, you are right, that is against the forum rules (in the first post in this thread).  On posting off-topic, I've seen you do that a few times before.  I've seen QS do it as well.  I've seen Dogie do it A LOT.  The mods seem rather selective on who gets in trouble for that.

For another possibility of your definition of hijacking a thread, if for example, I make a thread that it's my opinion that all miner manufacturers must make the outside of their miners purple, and you become the major participate in the thread (but you are posting on-topic), I don't see anything against that, in the rules, nor in my opinion either.

I would think if the intent of your post is about your opinion that Bicknellski is attacking Quickseller and Dogie, that should be posted in Meta and is off-topic in this thread (which is against forum rules).  If the intent of your post is about questioning a user breaking forum rules, I think this is the right place.  You should separate those 2 concepts into the proper board areas, so you don't break the forum rules.

Left positive feedback for Dogie & now don't feel the same? Remove it here

PatSNL is right.  MZ is, ironically, accusing Bicknellski of breaking a forum rule for being off-topic, but accusations are off-topic here.  So, I have to lol.

Thank you for the replies. As I said, exposing their scams(if any) is fine and I have no problem but Bicknellski is hijacking most threads IMHO. Maybe, the way I understood about thread-hijacking is wrong.

On Topic:

We don't need "rules" we need "enforcement". Fair enforcement. A better sticky would be a rating system or evaulation system of Moderators so that we can have some feedback from the community on what we WANT from our mods. The real breakdown is not what is over the line it is the inconsistency of moderation. You want to see improved systems?

Do what students do at the University level:

http://www.oir.uconn.edu/onlineset/onlineset.html

I double dare you to implement this.

Biggest ways to improve the system.

1. Regular feedback and reporting of inconsistency in the moderation activity from the community.
2. Regular review of feedback by the admins of the forum and to train and or remove ineffective moderators.
3. REMOVE THE DEFAULT TRUST and let TRUST be open to all no hierarchy. Too much time is wasted on who is or isn't on the default list.
4. Have a wider range of volunteers as mods not just friends of friends / old boys and have a mentoring system for mods in place.
5. REMOVE ALL PAID SIGNATURES. Causes unusual amount of spam.
6. REMOVE ALL PAID IN THREAD ADS see Dogies guides as an example. Causes an unusual amount of spam.

That alone will help REDUCE the amount of needless moderation required and mods and admins can them work on more pressing issues. Too much time devoted to this is allowing the quality of the forums to degrade. More noise less signal.

Removed at the request of Moderators however it was done in protest.

3. REMOVE THE DEFAULT TRUST and let TRUST be open to all no hierarchy. Too much time is wasted on who is or isn't on the default list.
You spend 50% of your time complaining everyone around you is a shill or an alt, so it seems hypocritical that you want a trust system based on a popularity contest / who has the most accounts.

4. Have a wider range of volunteers as mods not just friends of friends / old boys and have a mentoring system for mods in place.
Its not possible to simultaneously increase the quality of moderators while also adding casual moderators willy nilly. Choose one opinion, they currently contradict.

6. REMOVE ALL PAID IN THREAD ADS see Dogies guides as an example. Causes an unusual amount of spam.
Was that entirely at random, just off the top of your head? And do you want everything posted on CoinDesk and hotlinked from bitcointalk? Because thats how you get everything posted on CoinDesk and hotlinked from bitcointalk. Not that I've had ads in my guides for months.

Off Topic:
As was mentioned elsewhere, simply stating that your post is off topic does not prevent it breaking off topic rules. If you find yourself having to write "off topic" and you know its going to be disruptive, don't post it or find the correct home for it.

It's not clear that removing defaul trust results in a system based on a popularity contest.  From what I can see, there's no reason why, in principle, my trust network has to have *any* overlap with yours.

It's not clear that increasing the number of people who can do some moderating is equal to "willy nilly".

I think this gets to the heart of the matter, Bicknellski has made it more than clear about how he feels about you, you seem to be bowing to pressure to respond---but bickering at him doesn't make you look any better and, if anything, you're validating his gripes whereas if you ignored them (his post here was something like a week old already) they'd probably be less noticed.

I would like to thank the MOD/Admin who removed my reported comment. My report was quite rude (I accept) and am really sorry for that as I was upset about personal attacks and abusive comments not being removed and am happy that finally the comment is deleted. Thanks again.  Smiley

 -snip-

If every trust feedback is weighed equally for a user with unmodified trust list, then users' with most accounts will be able to change others' trust rating very easily.

If you are suggesting to remove DefaultTrust and forcing users' to create their own custom trust list, it is not plausible. This has been discussed here many times.

Removing default trust doesn't (necessarily) mean that all feedback is weighed equally.  That's an assumption that I didn't see above.

Being discussed here doesn't mean that it's been shown or proven.  You can claim that it's not plausible, but that's not a proof.

You might want to add a new rule:

Don't abuse BBCode to break the forum layout!

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1092872.0

Please don't actually do this. It looks terribly messy and exploits invalid HTML that will vary per browser. We will be deleting posts that do this in other threads and banning anyone who does it persistently.

Fixing it seems difficult. It seems like a bug pretty deep in how the bbcode parser works. If anyone knows how to fix it, let me know.

Yeah, well... I'm gonna go build my own blockchain, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the blockchain!

It won't be deleted if the post contributes to that thread. If the post in that thread which you replied to is deleted, then your post will be off-topic and will be deleted too.

Yes.

Do not make topics or replies just to share your referral link. Whether it's in your sig, avatar, personal message, profile, within the post itself, or tattooed on your forehead is irrelevant.

Edited for clarity.

Yes. If you have another discussion that arises, its best to take it to a different thread. If its not spam I see them rarely get removed though. Discussions sometimes take sideroutes and its hard to distinguish that from offtopic posts.

Ok then we need to teach everyone english Smiley

My ref link deleted by moderator. But he has not deleted other ref links. He makes discrimination?

If you want to share your referral link you may need to put in appropriate ways & places to avoid engaging in referral link spamming. E.g. you could try to put it in your profile URL, like me or hilariousandco.

Updated one FAQ question with shorena's thread that was mentioned recently in Meta:

Quote
Q: My account was hacked! What do I do?
A: See this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0. If you don't know how to sign a message, see this thread made by shorena: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0

Also, remember when PMing the signed message, send it in [code ][/code ] brackets (just without the space at the end). For example,

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ...
OR
I sent that address to someone in a PM with PM ID#...

If you don't know how to sign a message and the tutorial mentioned before didn't mention your client, google for some tutorials with terms like: "signing messages with <insert your bitcoin client name here>". For example, "signing messages with bitcoin-qt".

From my understanding of reading Badbears post a little while ago is that activity is no longer updated every hour but when that person logs in again because it was too taxing for the system to keep up I might have the log in bit wrong but its not every hour any longer

Logging in is for inactive users. For active users, it is 1 hour but I guess there are slight delays these days.
