NeoCortex - Coins for the Mind

Introducing the latest mining algorithm - NeoScrypt - with thanks to GhostLander for the creation of the algorithm.

https://i.imgur.com/bhsHmTe.png
Algo: NeoScrypt (profile 0x3)
Ticker Code: NEOC
Coin Name: neocortex (neocortexd and neocortex.exe)
Config Location: neocortex.conf

Block Rewards
10K NEOC Premine (Originally For Bounties - see below) in Block 1 - But Unintentionally discarded due to blockchain fork.
Blocks 2 - 99 - 2 NEOC
Blocks 100 - 499 - 20 NEOC
Blocks 500 - 20000 - 250 NEOC
Blocks 20000+ - 50 NEOC + Transaction Fees

The shorter plan for the block reward system, is to allow for an easy inclusion of PoS at some point after block 20,000 if the coin's value is sufficient to warrant it.

Use the following nodes to help connect if you are having issues: (add to bottom of neocortex.conf and remove your peers.dat file)

Code:
rpcport=25555
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass
addnode=107.170.90.55:36454
addnode=37.59.21.199:29030
addnode=107.170.165.93:58468
addnode=54.191.27.187:34347
Difficulty Algorithm
The same difficulty algorithm as in Monocle has been used for this coin.

Mining
As this coin NeoScrypt - no current GPU miner will work for this coin. The CPU miner from GhostLander is also untested with this coin's exact workings. Bounties (see below) will be provided.

Do the Windows wallets for these things always contact IRC servers?

Code:

I saw this first when using -a neoscrypt rather than -a altscrypt. Can you confirm you are seeing this for -a altscrypt?

sha_256 undifined Angry

The docs for neoscrypt state to use the -DSHA_256 compilation flags.

Where are you seeing this error?

Often a lot of coins do. Its a way to connect and find peers.

windows wallet no working ?

I have contacted the person who provided the wallet. And hopefully they can provide an updated one on this new chain.

Its a nightmare mess I know :\ just trying to get it all going again.

The new premine has been orphaned as someone updated the wallet but kept their current blockchain.

Ultimately this means we can carry on with this chain - but without bounties.

We have the new windows wallet, which I will update with OP.

Why do we have to compile the wallet and miner? That should have been done before launching the coin. -1 already for that.

How energy efficient is this compared to out algos? Hope this isn't like Aiden's Scrypt-OG which isn't really energy efficient compared to regular Scrypt.

Why does the qt wallet have a SC logo? Wouldn't it be Neo, NeoC or NC?

Just a reminder to anyone making wallets or such

The premine has been overwritten with the original blockchain because someone didn't remove their old blockchain before updating

Now... we can relaunch from scratch *again*, or just carry on as is without premine bounties.

Use the debug console. Use the command "Setgenerate True X", with X being how many cpu thread you want to mine with. Best to keep one or two free for OS and Gpu mining.

I'm mining fine with the debug console.

Are you on Windows 8?
I was having the same problem, until I tried on a Win 7 VM, and it's working.

But..... the wallet is mining on a single thread.. have you guys noticed the same? (yes, I set more than 1 thread)

I'm on Windows 7.  For both launches mine mined fine (say that 3 times fast) at first, but then I started getting the error consistently.

WINDOWS WALLET - https://mega.co.nz/#!XMFQzDCJ!PBTwMc66MLJL1_MIBoJm9y77jsdEc1Haz7xrm0CPXnE

CPUMiner Now Available see below | Or use wallet only mining - setgenerate true [processes]

NeoCortex - Coins for the Mind

Introducing the latest mining algorithm - NeoScrypt - with thanks to GhostLander for the creation of the algorithm.

Algo: NeoScrypt (profile 0x3)
Ticker Code: NEOC
Coin Name: neocortex (neocortexd and neocortex.exe)
Config Location: neocortex.conf

Block Rewards
10K NEOC Premine (For Bounties - see below) in Block 1 (Block 0 contains 0 coins)
Blocks 2 - 99 - 2 NEOC
Blocks 100 - 499 - 20 NEOC
Blocks 500 - 20000 - 250 NEOC
Blocks 20000+ - Transaction Fees
Total Supply - 4893200 NEOC

The shorter plan for the block reward system, is to allow for an easy inclusion of PoS at some point after block 20,000 if the coin's value is sufficient to warrant it.

Use the following nodes to help connect if you are having issues: (add to bottom of neocortex.conf and remove your peers.dat file)

Code:
rpcport=25555
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass
addnode=107.170.90.55:36454
addnode=37.59.21.199:29030
addnode=107.170.165.93:58468
addnode=54.191.27.187:34347

Was getting a couple huge servers ready for cryptonite when I noticed this thread.

Edit:  I got 13k before switching to cryptonite.  I'll donate 10k to the dev.  If it relaunches, my coins are worthless.

One of the 32 Bit Win 7 machines just found a block then started doing the runtime error!

I can't fix it now either...all the others are fine and still finding more than 1 block.

Just a reminder to anyone making wallets or such

The premine has been overwritten with the original blockchain because someone didn't remove their old blockchain before updating

Now... we can relaunch from scratch *again*, or just carry on as is without premine bounties.

forget about the premine, keep hashing, and get this coin on exchange asap.

LOL.

One of the 32 Bit Win 7 machines just found a block then started doing the runtime error!

I can't fix it now either...all the others are fine and still finding more than 1 block.

Yeah, my AMD box started getting the error after finding a block.  Stoopid GenerateNewKey().

I have 8 machines mining just perfect right now.

Only 1 has crapped out and throwing the error.  Others have found multiple blocks.

Don't be a baby because yours doesn't work.

Edit: Hashrate has doubled in the last hour also.

low cpu load. Only 1 thread.
yes, must be a compiler setting.

Seeing the same on Win8 64 Pro with AMD FX-6100 6 Core Proc.

Downloaded new wallet. Deleted everything related to the old wallet as had no coins.

Setgenerate true works but will not use more than one core now matter if I use -1 or specify 4 or 6 threads.

Something is broken with the Windows version of the wallets miner it would seem as I can max out the CPU with other wallets.

YMMV

Backup the old wallet first, rename it or put it in another folder, then create a new wallet.

Then once the client is repaired, you can send your coins from your old wallet backup, to your new wallet, or vise versa if you have coins in both wallets.

Hi all,

Just a note to those having issues, I had no issues using intel CPU's on ubuntu.  If people are having issues with the inbuilt miner, why not use the separate CPU miner?  I am and it works perfectly

Well 50 blocks mined in the last 6 minutes...  I have a very healthy amount of power on this (several thousand cores) and have had...1 block in 20 minutes.  I think somebody somewhere either has a GPU miner already or has rented themselves a significant number of CPU's.  I'll be shutting down now

"networkhashps" : 3175172

Well there's a clue...  given that the average cpu core is doing a little over 1 kh/s, if that value is correct then that's 3 million cores on it.  Which is not true.  So somebody somewhere is mining with something different.

You missed the average cpu hashrate by at least 5 fold. My CPUs give me something over 12Kh/s.

EDIT: Oh, and total hashrate is around 3501000 average CPUs. Like 100300-400 better ones.

CPUMiner Now Available see below | Or use wallet only mining - setgenerate true [processes]

NeoCortex - Coins for the Mind

Introducing the latest mining algorithm - NeoScrypt - with thanks to GhostLander for the creation of the algorithm.

Algo: NeoScrypt (profile 0x3)
Ticker Code: NEOC
Coin Name: neocortex (neocortexd and neocortex.exe)
Config Location: neocortex.conf

Block Rewards
10K NEOC Premine (Originally For Bounties - see below) in Block 1 - But Unintentionally discarded due to blockchain fork.
Blocks 2 - 99 - 2 NEOC
Blocks 100 - 499 - 20 NEOC
Blocks 500 - 20000 - 250 NEOC
Blocks 20000+ - Transaction Fees
Total Supply - 4893200 NEOC

The shorter plan for the block reward system, is to allow for an easy inclusion of PoS at some point after block 20,000 if the coin's value is sufficient to warrant it.

Use the following nodes to help connect if you are having issues: (add to bottom of neocortex.conf and remove your peers.dat file)

Code:
rpcport=25555
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass
addnode=107.170.90.55:36454
addnode=37.59.21.199:29030
addnode=107.170.165.93:58468
addnode=54.191.27.187:34347

CPUMiner Now Available see below | Or use wallet only mining - setgenerate true [processes]

For windows:
1. CPUMiner is NOT avaliable (because there is NO compiled miner, not all users are programmers Angry)
2. Wallet can only use 1 core. DEV! Why you write this "wallet only mining - setgenerate true [processes]"? I think you doesn't check it at all, because you have gpuminer.

Firstly, thanks to HankRules for his donation - the Bounties are reopened. (I will be updating OP again soon).

Now, looking at the blocks found, it does seem that a lot (well, relatively) of hashrate appeared on the network suddenly. This could potentially be EC2 cloud instances or such (this happens in most CPU coins, including Monero etc). If someone has made a GPU miner, hopefully they will submit it and obtain the bounty now that the bounties are back.

As for claims of gpu mining myself - if I had the capability to GPU Mine, I would be able to release the gpu mining software itself and thus make this presumably more popular - which would be far more valuable than just mining them on my own.

Currently, I have the premine bounty which is for bounty and services - as my i3 laptop processor isn't exactly high-end, I don't know how many blocks I would find with it.

I am not sure if it is a compilation issue or not, but I know that the source code when compiled on Linux does allow multi-core mining. So maybe the windows version was compiled with a single thread implementation? I didn't make this version, so I cannot confirm this.

If 'ascii' could reply in this thread and let us know if this is the case, we would appreciate it.

My IMHO:
This coin is SCAM

"My IMHO" means "My in my humble opinion".  The "My" is redundant.

Also, would you like us to call the waaahmbulance?

The wallet has mined OK on Windows since the beginning, even if it wasn't optimized it still hit blocks no worries.

I found 4 blocks all around 6 in the morning where I live. Diff is still low and I did not find a single block more in 8,5 hours.

I found 1 block at a win 7 64 computer and I get errors in the wallet since then. I can not mine anymore on this computer. I reinstalled everything but the error continues. It is the same error as mentioned before.

I have 8 core AMD cpu's but I can only use 1 core when mining with wallet.

Also the cpu miner provided can not recognize the algo.

Everything working perfectly in linux. Can't vouch for mac/windows, although I bet the people who jumped on early and are smashing blocks are probably not posting, while the one's who failed are complaining loudly.

Without a linux box you will have a very hard time. If you are windows only you will likely have to wait until someone does it for you.

Nah, the install directions are for shit, unusable...  Bunch of missing dependencies but working through them. Too late to do it again tonight but I will try and list the steps for Ubuntu 14.04 tomorrow.

So I got the miner to build, barely.. But stuck on the wallet with this.. Anyone have any ideas?

build/neoscrypt.o: In function `neoscrypt':
neoscrypt.c:(.text+0x230d): undefined reference to `neoscrypt_pbkdf2_sha256'
neoscrypt.c:(.text+0x2343): undefined reference to `neoscrypt_pbkdf2_sha256'

Yeah,

I also tried the qtcreator method. Same error. So if someone is mining this they know something that we don't.

I am guessing they know the fix in Linux, and that they also have working windows wallets that mine on all cores. And simple documentation should not be this difficult.

Thus as much as I love CPU coins...  Sorry dev. Try again when you are serious.

Outta here...

I felt like being generous, fiddled around with mingw and managed to build a 64-bit windows binary of ghostlander's cpuminer that works on all cores as expected.

Wierd. Seems more like a problem with your wallet rather than the minerd. I ran the miner against a linux wallet.

As per bounty

Code:
neocortexd sendtoaddress '9iBXhRBWtxYi6PqBwsUpHzwaVFLMjTfU9a' 500
ahmedbodi - great work on the stratum hashes

txid: 9d91effb256de17857c7403414f05c5e7cc65c8f217d7466e7f6a6f53f335195

- if i have missed any bounties please let me know -

Also, we now need pools!

The wallet will no longer start properly after finding a block. Is there a fix for this issue?

Hi, is this the Windows/MAC or Source wallet (or all?)

build/neoscrypt.o: In function `neoscrypt':
neoscrypt.c:(.text+0x230d): undefined reference to `neoscrypt_pbkdf2_sha256'
neoscrypt.c:(.text+0x2343): undefined reference to `neoscrypt_pbkdf2_sha256'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
I got the same error. Don't know what the problem is Sad

Add #define SHA256 1 to the top of the neoscrypt.c file.

I will push a github update with this in.

Also - if any developers have any suggestions/fixes - feel free to issue push requests via github.

Further, the future is really in everyone's hands. How does everyone want this coin to progress?

Biggest risk to the health of the coin is somebody building a GPU miner and not sharing it.  If I were you, I'd put all my resources into securing one and holding it until you see fit to release publicly.

I'll match your bounites for the GPU miners

Edit:  Are you the developer, or did you pay somebody to do it (hope that's not offensive)?

Block 5577 now.
It's slow because hashrate plummeted and difficulty is taking a lot to readjust.

I tried a "getinfo" from the debug but it fails.

http://www.hashharder.com/neoscrypt/neocortex

Mining Command:

Code:
./minerd -a altscrypt -o stratum+tcp://www.hashharder.com:9620 -u WalletAddress -p x

This also works with the OneKey mining system. The pools accepts shares. Hopefully it will find a block also.

Hi,

As I understand the issue - the bug only seems related to the current compiled Windows Binary - which 'ASCII' provided.

If someone else can provide a better windows binary (less bugs, multi-core support) I will happily send another bounty to this user - after people have tested it.

Unfortunately, as we do not have a windows build environment here, we are unable to perform this task ourselves.

AFAIK the linux wallet does not suffer from this problem.

Is this pool paying? I've found two blocks already and no payouts have been made yet.

I found two blocks on the pool and have not received any payment, I stopped mining from the pool. Started mining solo for a while on Windows but Wallet would crash everytime I found a block, and now I cannot even solo mine any more, wallet just crashes when I start the miner Sad hopefully dev can find a solution for this.

Yes this is indeed pretty sad. If you really are a dev, then you know you could simply create a windows build environment and build the fucking binary in a few hours, as it is clearly needed to roll out anything serious. Lame bro.

It's ok. They're testing the waters for us so to speak... We know it's not ready yet, hence why not even pxc has made the move yet...

This is good though.. We're getting to see Neo in a real world environment now.. Not just a testnet.. So this is very good.

I'm glad this has happened but I just feel a bit sorry for NEOC.. A little too hasty but they're seriously taking one for the team..

I sent a DM to the dev a few days ago but heard nothing back so I suspect it has been abandoned already.

This coin can be useful as an experiment for NeoScrypt, however it is just using AltScrypt so it is testing only part of it.  It could be hard forked to switch to full NeoScrypt in time via the community.

Hi guys,

I've managed to compile up a windows wallet (thought I'd use this project as it seemed to need a stable one).

I've tested it on my own PC - but there are a lot of different architectures out there so it may not work for others.

Code:
http://speedy.sh/4dmQm/neocortex-qt.zip

The virus total results are as follows:

Its the first time ive tried to compile up a windows wallet, hopefully it will work for anyone using this coin.

Its the first time ive tried to compile up a windows wallet, hopefully it will work for anyone using this coin.

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/2ca8ac99a1753d6a5d323496c76cff1622df04f987978cd91cf38655492c2e71/analysis/1407418977/

PM me your address and I'll send some NEOC your way.

Its OK.

But I'd like it if people could test out the wallet and let me know if it crashes/breaks and so on - its my first time trying to compile up these wallets, so things may go wrong.

I tested multi-core mining on it, and it seems to work (the GUI bit doesnt, but set generate -1 in debug window does)

You can mine this coin with Scrypt ASIC.  It was meant to be released as the first NeoScrypt coin but I think what happened was the coin developer made a mistake and used altscrypt, which is just a reimplementation of scrypt using the neoscrypt libraries.

Funny thing was the dev lost his premine and had to rely on someone gifting him the coins Grin

If a coin dev wants to take over this coin and hard fork it to NeoScrypt I will offer a pretty decent bounty of NEOC  Cool
