The West Point slum, near Monrovia is still quarantined. Some 50,000 people don't have enough supplies of food and medicine.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ebola-outbreak-why-liberia-s-quarantine-in-west-point-slum-will-fail-1.2744292

No one knows how many people have got Ebola there and how many of them have died. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia seems to be extremely incompetent. First she set up an Ebola treatment center near the crowded slum (should have set it up in a sparsely inhabited area), and then she quarantined tens of thousands of people needlessly.

It is interesting to observe that the German MSM Die Welt couldn't pass up even this opportunity to demonise Russia:
http://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/article131459175/Russland-hat-Ebola-zur-Waffe-gemacht.html

I think we now have more of a Russophobic epidemics, than Ebola epidemics in the world, and the former might end up being more lethal if the West manages to funnel it into a WWIII.

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”
“It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.”

It does sound moronic that in this day and age we would segregate all the healthy people with the non healthy people and let the virus keep spreading in the population there.

Kind of like a mass execution in the modern age, they need more personnel that can quarantine them into areas away from each other then wait and see who shows symptoms for treatment.

When they say it is A relic of the Middle Ages, quarantines do more harm than good
They are absolutely correct.

(Unless its World War Z and a zombie outbreak is coming then use those sniffer dogs)

The biggest outbreak of one of the deadliest most viral diseases ever, just hype? If it really takes hold or breaks in to any major world cities then you're talking black death / spanish flu scenario

surviving. This means that as the strains of the virus change and mutate they will likely be immune to antibiotics. (your have sound logic, but it is just bad for society).

Actually they do not even need to mutate, antibiotics can not kill viruses.

"The total number of probable and confirmed cases in the current outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the four affected countries as reported by the respective Ministries of Health of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone is 3069, with 1552 deaths.

The outbreak continues to accelerate. More than 40% of the total number of cases have occurred within the past 21 days. However, most cases are concentrated in only a few localities."

http://www.who.int/csr/don/2014_08_28_ebola/en/

So it is not looking very good now.

The WHO is not publishing new disease updates on its site for almost a week now. What is the reason? Are they trying to hide something?

Just heard the devastating news about a confirmed Ebola case from Port Harcourt (Nigeria). Just like Lagos, Port Harcourt is also home to millions of people, and is covered with ultra-high density slums. I am just hoping that this is an isolated case.

Also, Port Harcourt is situated in the Niger Delta, where a lot of international petroleum workers reside.  Angry

BTW, if anyone is having any update on the latest situation from the West Point slum, please post here.

BTW, if anyone is having any update on the latest situation from the West Point slum, please post here.

The situation in West Point is desperate: "Inside the barrier, there is desperation. Behind the gate of a three-story apartment complex, 20 people pleaded with me to share their story. We have nothing to eat, nothing to drink, no medical care, they said. We have children, they told me."

The disease is also tearing families apart: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/mirrorman-braves-ebola-slums-witness-4122702

Hmm... so 454 new cases in 6 days. And almost two-thirds of the new cases from Liberia. Not surprising. And even more worrying, these figures don't include the probable cases from West Point.

Situation in Sierra Leone and Guinea is bad.. but what is happening in Liberia is horrible. If the Liberians have any commonsense, then they should ask Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to GTFO. So far, she has been a complete failure.

"U.S. health officials announced that the first human trial of an experimental Ebola vaccine will start next week, and that trials of other vaccines will follow close on its heels."

"The vaccine already has performed well in tests in animals, protecting them against Ebola infections."

A very bad news coming in. Senegal has confirmed its first Ebola victim. Now they become the fifth West African nation to get affected with Ebola, after Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28983554

Just like the cases in Nigeria, the confirmed case in Senegal was also caused by someone who traveled from one of the affected countries.  Angry

Back on the Vaccination front with regards to ZMapp
Ebola outbreak: ZMapp protects sick monkeys
Findings warrant further development of cocktail for clinical use, Canadian researchers say

A Phase 1 safety study is scheduled to begin in healthy humans in early 2015. Mapp BioPharmaceuticals, which has licensed the drug, is conducting the next stages of research needed to seek regulatory approval for ZMapp.

If safety data from a Phase 1 trial in humans in the U.S. supports the compassionate use of ZMapp, Kobinger expects it could be used under Health Canada’s special access program possibly by spring. But scaling up production in tobacco plants to stockpile thousands of doses is another matter.

So in other words
"Unfortunately, it's not like Hollywood where they make a drug or a vaccine in 24 hours and save the world. You know, it does take some time," Geisbert said.

In the meantime new cases will keep spreading
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ebola-outbreak-zmapp-protects-sick-monkeys-1.2750199

In my opinion Skip Trials let people decide if they want to use it or not knowing full well the risk Ebola presents.

More scary news: "A group of researchers in Massachusetts claim that the Ebola virus is "rapidly mutating," which makes it difficult for doctors to diagnose and cure it. According to reports, a study found that nearly 400 genetic mutations of the virus were detected from the early patients in Sierra Leone.

The researchers fear the mutation rate will only be hampering the development of treatment including future vaccines."

http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/564676/20140831/ebola-virus-outbreak-mutation.htm

So it is like HIV virus.

Money decides.  The decision is not up to "the people".
Its not like anyone can just plant a seed in their yard, add water, and have a vaccine and government is stopping them.

If you are saying you want the leviathan to extract the money from everyone to pay for this instead of something else, you need to lobby more effectively than posting on a website.
