I uploaded the file in question (https://mega.co.nz/#!6cAxzBjT!KVntyW_y8j4QVwobEHROrRhpuKnX_2uxd-KML_S4ips) to virustotal.com and noticed that other people have also uploaded it there on August 2nd. It came out clean. Both the OP and the supposed archive page on BitcoinTa.lk have the same file linked to. I'm not sure what to make of this, but can the people who claim their money was stolen please provide evidence of some kind of transfer from their address to the attacker's address? If enough people show that their money was sent to one address, perhaps we can expose the attacker. If there isn't any evidence, then perhaps it's all just FUD. It's not completely infallible, but having multiple people posting transaction data from before my post was made requesting it, should surely help to prove things beyond a reasonable doubt.

Things to consider:

1.) Virus Total first analyzed the file listed in the OP and the BitcoinTa.lk forum (same file) on August 2nd.
2.) FUD about ZIPCoin wasn't even started by August 4th, meaning time zones are irrelevant.
3.) FUDsters are claiming the file in the OP is different from the one on BitcoinTa.lk citing it as an archived version of the OP. Both files are the same. (Was the other one updated too?)
4.) If the OP had a different file originally, then why didn't anyone mention the stolen coins right away? How was the clean file uploaded to VirusTotal on August 2nd when it wasn't available yet? (Did the dev upload it first as a makeshift insurance policy? Was the scam tactic unnoticeable even with the suggested wallet.dat ->voot.dat for all other coins? Did anyone open their wallets for the other coins before the FUD started?)

Most of these suggest that the coin is legit, but there are some things that could be smoke and mirrors.

Not entirely... where did the virus-version come from, and was it created by the same author of Zipcoin?

As far as I can tell, this link has been claimed to be the link where the virus version originally came from (although its content has since been removed): https://mega.co.nz/#!JAoyiajC!0ND16g-6qVDRGVuxnNBZmd-NInXzpbdaW9Pe9dDlDUo

The first reference I can find of that link is over in this forum by an admin, so I doubt it was created by them: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/13908-zipcoin-zip-information/?p=116755

I posted a question asking where the link came from, we'll see if there's any reply.

The link cited doesn't exist. (Was it removed as it was a virus?) The CryptoCoinTalk.com forum post is by Admin. It's a popular Bitcoin Forum, so they have a reputation to keep. I think they posted it on the ZIPCoin dev's behalf. Did someone have a vendetta against ZIPCoin or did someone hack the forum or Admin account?

Ok first off, I noticed coin missing yesterday morning. I posted in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=724507.0 to ask someone with experience to help me and identify what had happened. At first I thought somehow my computer had moved the wallet.dat file and when I opened it, it created a new one for me. Thus my coins were gone. But these helpful people over on that thread helped me identify it was actually a virus.
You can even see one of my posts saying "is this a false positive" because i didnt want people to think I was spreading fud. This was before all this in this thread.

The wallets of mine stolen were BTC and Minerals

Second, I had reformatted my PC so was unable to upload the virus in question but luckily someone else here had done that. See the posts on previous pages.
There WAS a virus posted on this thread at some stage. Believe it or not, I always say people should make their own decisions up about coins. Do you really want to be involved in a coin that you know the dev has access to a virus. There are a miliion scam coins released all the time.

Links to my addresses of my 1.1 BTC stolen are here
https://blockchain.info/address/1Kniun52uhJjEdKJhW2QFzNNjBmtvJetWU
https://blockchain.info/address/1FEgzCSiXmBe966UDZnNUpwrziDv28P5dv
https://blockchain.info/address/1HGQ4J7VPDsF88RsjXSZXchJRenfevtHR2
https://blockchain.info/address/1MYvWmES69U2qP2kdHNwm9Gr4orp4K694R

You can clearly see they go to the hackers account, then are subsequently moved to a few addresses then into a Bitcoin Mixer. Who puts coins through a BTC mixer?

Links to one of my addresses where some Minerals Coin were stored, I ended up losing about 1.4 BTC worth of MInerals Coins
http://explorer.minerals.pro/address/ME7eBbAepDXziXyGodWx42a2PDTDLciG1b
I couldnt find the other Minerals Address because they stole the entire wallet.dat file so when I opened the wallet it created a new one, thus deleting all my addresses and keys.

Look some people can sit here with their 0.03 BTC investment and say "oh the fudsters are here blah blah" But people including myself have lost a decent amount of BTC here. I am only here to warn others of the dangers of this so called 'dev'
He is in control of a virus that is rather well crafted, out of 52 antivirus programs only 1 picks it up.
Make of it what you will.

Again, anyone reading this post and have the zipcoin wallet installed i urge you to check the C:\users\MyUsername\Appdata\Local\Spoon\Sandbox\Zipcoin-Qt\2.0.0.0\local\stubexe directory for 3 files. ztor.exe zipcoin-qt.exe and netsh.exe
Be sure to allow hidden files and folders http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/show-hidden-files-in-windows-7/

Interesting. Lots of weirdness with the malware issue, is it confirmed it was part of a dl at some point or did the individuals comp just happen to get compromised at the same time out of an unrelated event? Hmm, this is basically why I don't download wallets anymore just mine new coins from pools and ship everything to the exchanges, too many new coins, too many risks.

The shit thing is, is I didnt even mine this coin. I simply downloaded the wallet to see if the so called 'anon' feature was working (which it isnt mind you, but no one seems to even care about that)

Is the https://mega.co.nz/#!JAoyiajC!0ND16g-6qVDRGVuxnNBZmd-NInXzpbdaW9Pe9dDlDUo malware link?

Check the Google cache ("This is Google's cache of https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=721306. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on 2 Aug 2014 10:48:50 GMT."):
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=721306
The OP had the malware link. Now OP contains another link.

Or check this:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:SouB9ZwLRXYJ:ftp166085.host183.web538.com/thread-4515-1-1.html - a thread with the same malware link.

Or check this (thanks to btchris):
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/13908-zipcoin-zipc-information/?p=116770

Definitely OP contained link to the malware some time.

Is it true this wallet had a virus?  Roll Eyes

PLease read through the last 15 pages of the thread. Yes, at some time the OP posted a wallet that was packaged with a virus then subsequently changed it back to the original wallet. Myself and a few others have lost BTC and other coins because of i, I myself have lost a substantial amount. Make your own mind up about whether you want to be involved with a dev that has access to a virus.
To check if you have the virus check the folder C:\users\MyUsername\Appdata\Local\Spoon and look for 3 files called ztor.exe netsh.exe and zipcoin-qt.exe (the zipcoin-qt.exe in this folder is not your actual wallet)
Be sure to show hidden files and folders http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/show-hidden-files-in-windows-7/

Plus, during this whole episode the 'coin cloner' has not even shown up. Speaks for itself.
