What are the best games you know you can play for real money or make money for free? (no casino games)
Games with RME (real-money-economy) often MMO's. Skillgames where you can win prizes, contests, etc.
I've played Entropia (planet Calypso), Eve Online, Second Life, Diablo3 and small games like offered on Gambit (domino, monopoly etc.)
SL was the best income and the first 2 I mentioned only have cost me money but I know it's possible to earn if you are conservative, dedicated trader. Diablo3 was good until the auctionhouse went down so I left.

What about Sim City? I remember playing it as a kid and it seemed like a legit way to control price and resources. I dont remember if there was a legitimate economic model tho.
Also look for Star Citizen.

Well, you probably didn't hear about Steam trading. Worth a shot, many people are obtaining games with 0 investment from there, also it can be possible to make real money with it, but as usually you need to be careful, scamming is way too popular on Steam.

You could try poker. Or the stock market. But they are much more boring than the games you are talking about Unless you are really good at a very played game where no money is bet, you won't make anything decent from it.

I dont know what you class poker as. I used to play professionally and i never considered myself gambling or playing a casino game.
I doubt there are many games where you can make as much as poker if you are very talented. I would still advise against playing online poker seriously for money for any meaningful period of your life. Much better things to do.

You can make money from Dota 2 you can win prizes ( boxes, items, armors, etc) and sell them in steam store and buy more games...
And with team fortress 2
Tremor games is another option
You can play habbo and when you get a lot of items, sell your account

You could also try MarketGlory, a massively multi player online role playing game with a virtual economy that allows you to withdraw the money you make in-game. The game is rather slow paced at the beginning however - unless you're willing to deposit some of your own money to speed things up, that is.

I checked out Market Glory, it's a bit of a joke, with a lot of these things people who put money in will have a huge advantage over people who don't, might as well save up some money and invest in altcoins frankly.

all these games with real money economy make people who deposited money have a huge advantage against those who don't. Otherwise where the money from people who make profit would come from?

Trading and auctioning aren't really skill-dependent. It's just spending time in the game and getting lucky with the drops. If you want to make money with skill, try your hand at tournaments.

Yes, it's a pay to win game; but as (Lithium) said, that's just part of the deal, I'm afraid. Still, with some luck, skill, money and a lot of patience, new players might still find their niche in the game - especially now that the "recent" changes seem to not have been very well received by some of the older, more established players.
