I notice that most new users are here looking for ways to get rich off of Bitcoin. It's like Steve Jobs and his buddies created the personal computer, took all the risk and got the company running, started making big money and now people are buying the computer and sitting in front of it waiting for it to make them rich too.

Have you read the white paper?

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Do you understand the whole point of Bitcoin and what it does for the world? Or are you just hearing about early adopters making a lot of money and you want to buy some bitcoins now so you can sell it later for more money and go back to your fiat world a richer person (though poorer in the long run for living in a fiat economy)?

I already had what I need in terms of money. Bitcoin is far more important to me than money. I would like to see our economic future played on a level field. The corruption of banks and the wealthy has reached the tipping point and now that I have bitcoin I no longer use other currencies on the internet.
I for one am not going back. This is the money I use and a retailer can accept it or say goodbye to my business.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Well said.

To be honest at first it was the idea that the value would go up exponentially that drew me in. After spending a lot of time reading about it and watching a lot of videos by guys like Andreas A. and Stephan Molyneux (sp?) I have come to appreciate it for the potential it has to change the world in a very good and positive way. A people can never be truly free if their ability to acquire the tools to survive and be comfortable are controlled by any single entity. A free market economy is synonymous with individual freedom and that in my opinion is the great promise of bitcoin.

When I started with bitcoin it was as a way to earn money online. But the longer I used it, and the more I lurked this forum, the more I liked the idea. And now I am extremely interested in bitcoin (although it would of course be awesome if I got rich from one of my interests).
I think many does the same thing, but I guess I can only speak for myself.

I would think a good chunk of people here were drawn to Bitcoin out of interest in the concept itself and consider the price increases as one kickass bonus!

I choose to vote with my money.

I've made purchases from Overstock.com, TigerDirect.com, and NewEgg.com since they started accepting bitcoin.  I've subscribed to the Chicago Sun-Times since they started accepting bitcoin (and called their customer service to thank them and explain my reason for subscribing). I've switched from Comcast to Dish Satellite service since they started accepting bitcoin (and explained to Comcast customer service my reason for switching). I order my take-out pizza from Rosati's since they started using Menufy and accepting bitcoin (and explained to the restaurant manager my reason for purchasing from them when I picked up my pizzas).

Businesses that accept bitcoin will win my loyalty over their competition, and they'll know it.

I started following bitcoin because I love the concept of a crypto currency.  However, after the run up in Nov 2013 the hope of wealth has entered my mind, though I almost expect bitcoin to crash as much as soar.  So bascially, came for the concept, stayed for the wealth!

Let's face it, most everyone is enticed by the prospect of becoming wealthier but it's the liberty minded mindset that is also focused on the disruptive capabilities. The libertarian and socialist minded often want whats best for mankind but clearly have different ways and means of making this happen. The problem is, this whole innovative and revolutionary technology is a way to, at minimum, tone down the aggressiveness of governments in favor of the individual if not to outright bypass the obsolete institution as a whole. Whether people know it or not, it's the continuation of erring on the side of more government that has us where we are. And, like it or not, it's the reason the USA has been able to use it's past and current capitalist wealth to intervene all over the world. In the end, libertarians are the true saviors and that's the mindset that led to Bitcoin and sounder money.

I have a bit more than 1btc, I know I am not going to get rich from bitcoin, but I do want it to worth a lot more so I can buy more  things with it. I am genuinely interested in the discentralised concept and hope it will work.

Independence from all central banks and from all governments has always been my first motivation. Ability to send money everywhere quickly and cheaply comes second, but I've never had any interest in the get rich quick schemes that are so popular on the Internet.

I first stumbled upon Bitcoin right around the time it hit $1 for the first time, I remember because people on this forum were going crazy (as I remember it) about "dollar parity". Didn't spend much time looking into it and didn't think of it again until around March 2013. The price was obviously much higher and was increasing rapidly. Wanting to know why, I dug into it much deeper then I had in the past. Once I understood the concepts of Bitcoin, I was hooked.

While increasing my wealth would be nice, the concept is much more important to me. If it ends up greatly increasing my wealth, it would be a bonus.

Both. I am interested in the concept and I also think that because of the concept, bitcoin will be worth a lot of money in 10 years.

I love the elegance and high utility of the protocol. I love the idea of disintermediating the banks.
I am aware that holding btc could enrich me but in an ideal world I wouldn't have to turn my btc into fiat at all as everything I want could be procured in btc itself

who cares it is bought with fiat anyways, just like gold and sliver, and they own all the stock anyways, new currency could of worked but is not because it is now tainted

It really depends on the whole get rich question... Day trading btc or alts or pouring money into mining rigs... For mining you need a lot of horsepower the get rich quick days are done.  As for day trading the market has been pretty stagnant minus a few dips here and there...
