imo kaspersky and bitdefender are best choices, offcourse using an antivirus will slowdown your system a bit but it will also protect you from stealer,virus malwares

I use Avast because its the best free one available.

I used Kaspersky and got a Virus and it fucked up my computer. Will never use them again.

Avast Antivirus + Malwarebytes works great for me.
avast is free and works well. Free anti virus can't handle heavy virus  I prefer Kaspersky since their offer high quality of anti virus system although it consume much RAM I use smadav pro and NOD32, until now it's working fine in my laptop |

Their new grimefighter is crap. But worst of all they now have a pop-up that appears in the browser showing you "deals" on the internet. It can't be uninstalled or shut off for more than 24 hours. Exactly the kind of thing I pay to keep off my machine.
