OoC, I was thinking of something yesterday and not sure I can verbalize it properly.  I was wondering if there was any correlation between the amount of bitcoins mined by known or unknown entities and the amount of bitcoin being sold on some exchanges.  I was trying to come up with some idea for visualizing the possibility of price manipulation on the public bitcoin exchanges.  Also where the bitcoin from "large" mining entities are ending up and if they are being held or traded.  Not sure if something like this is up your alley.  These are just some crazy ideas that pop into my head late at night when i can't sleep.

Thanks for all you do!

It's a very interesting idea, which has also given me another idea - what's the half life of each generation tx (ie how long until the utxos from a gen tx are all less than half of the initial gen tx). This ties to your idea since the rate of spending would have to approach the rate of trade on exchanges, but it also occurred to me this would be an excellent measure of mining economic activity.

Lots of food for thought there. Thanks abracadabra!

Isn't a generation transaction is just one transaction?

I partially comprehend what you mean, but could you explain that a bit?  Also what's a "utxos"?

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

UTXO == Unspent Transaction Outputs

The generation tx is just one tx, but the coins originating here get spent through other txs. Eventually, the largest unspent tx output originating only from the generation tx will be less than half of the original generation tx value - how long does this take?

The problem I see with this approach is when utxos are combined into a new tx.

Edit: Might be easier to find the median size of the all the tx outputs that the generation tx contributes to, within n steps from the generation tx (as a different measure of economic activity than half life).

Wow, they're just above the US... I guess those billion+ Chinese gotta eat something...

Funny thing is, look at who has the most cows...
Apparently, India is the place to be if you're a cow.

It definitely is. As a cow in India you can sit in the middle of the road all day long and noone will bother you. Nice to be a holy animal!
