This makes me even more interested to run my singles against each pool and see if my payouts match your calculated luck.  Now that should be VERY telling!

That won't be as good a comparison as you might think - it would be more accurate to compare total submitted shares divided by difficulty to total blocks solved if you want to look at luck from a miner payout point of view rather than as a proportion of network luck. I'll look at adding something more like what you want next week.

Well, there's been quite a shuffle to the pools subforum top 10. Bitminter is in! Well done Dr. H. We also see the return of Mt. Red, first time since their heady proportional days.

On the other hand we say good bye to Bitclockers and Bitlc.net. Maybe they'll both switch to a fair payout structure soon and be back.

Thank you! It took a long time to get there. This is a big milestone for BitMinter. Smiley

The luck index has changed since last week to better reflect the differences in luck, and is now:

Code:
Luck index = log(Percentage of network blocks solved / Percentage of network hashrate)

Luck index = 0 is average luck
Luck index > 0 is good luck
Luck index < 0 is poor luck

Some highlights:
  • Deepbit and Slush continue to lose hashrate as a percentage of network hashrate; Ozcoin getting quite close to Slush's hashrate now.
  • Bitlc and Maxbtc continue their hashrate plummet.
  • Itzod recovers some hashrate.
  • Bitminter improves hashrate again, for the fourth week in a row.
  • Itzod and Ozcoin continue their lucky streak.

I didn't add your suggestion, SgtSpike, I'll try to do so next week

Why N/A on p2pool's blocks?

It is nice to see the top 4 pools combined only have 48% of hashing power.  Even top 5 is only 51%.  Hopefully the trend continues and we see the top 5 combined fall under the 50% mark.

I haven't found a way to scrape that data. It's on P2pool.info, but not html scrapable, and no data like that exists on forre.st (at least not that I've found). I'm happy to be corrected on that point though.

Yes, deepbit and slush have dropped significantly recently, and so have a few other pools. A few have increased hashrate (Ozcoin, bitminter) but not many. I'll present the chronological data in the form of a graph next week to show trends more clearly (plus I'll run out of room soon anyway).

Sweet - a nice json api. I'll try to update tonight or tomorrow. This will also allow me to calculate hashrate instead of just using the mean from forre.st/graphs. Has it always been there?

Note that your list is still rather incomplete... There are more pools out there.

My site has more pools: on http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/top.php you can find the ranking of the pools.    This is live data.

It is incomplete - that's because I'm also getting an average for hashrates as well as blocks, and also comparing to network hashrates and blocks solved. If you know of any simple way for me to get the data I need I'd be glad of the help. Also, if Triplemining has an API I'll add it.

I just realised what you were getting at and I'm not including btcguild atm since they don't publish any round stats at all. So they're probably around 10% of the network, which makes the top 3 under 50%, but the top 4 over 50%. I've got a bunch of new additions for next week (and the updated p2Pool).

It would be great if I could include the likes of btcguild and 50btc.com but there are simply no round stats to be had from these pools. I realise those two are PPS and so their miners might not care about round stats, but so is Mt Red and they have a full stats page.

I have a concern that some of the newer PPS pools might be partly proxying like ABC pool. Publishing round stats would be a way of proving they're not.

I charted pools percentage of network hashrate rather than the table I previously used. I hope it's easy to follow. I've also added average round length / difficulty, as requested by Sgt Spike.

I'll be AFK for the next 4 weeks. The pool statistics will all continue to be calculated automatically with the exception of Maxbtc, whose data I can't pull in an automated fashion. I'll post the interim stats when I get back.

Some highlights:
  • New pools added: BTCGuild, BTCMine, Coinotron, Mkalinin, Mt. Red and Triplemining.
  • Chronological percentage of network hashrate is now presented as a chart. Network hashrate is also present for comparison.
  • Ozcoin has now been significantly lucky for three weeks in a row.
  • Bitminter is the only pool to increase hashrate for five weeks in a row.

Please refer to the OP if you require explanations.

Thanks for being patient, everyone. The current update is below.

I do have some pretty interesting news though. I will soon be able to help you manage your mining earnings variance through a bond on GLBSE: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=87990.0

The bond simply pays coupons in proportion to the average/expected round lengths, over a number of blocks. If your pool has a bad luck, you get paid more. If your pool has good luck, you get paid less. Easy! This will be handy for anyone who would be adversely affected by a pool's bad luck - for example the pool ops of small PPS pools like Mt Red.

I'll post updates here to let you know when the bonds are available.

PM me or post to the thread if you want more details.

Not so pretty luck-wise, but your increase in average hashrate is pretty good for your miners. If your hashrate continues to increase, extremes of good or bad luck will be a thing of the past.
