Any chance this is all FUD because of all the good news today for Bitcoin!
Apple striking back ?
I think it's a hacker who owns a large amount of Bitcoin himself and doesn't wish to actually hurt bitcoin, as he could of done truly worse things...like pretend that satoshi was going to sell off his bitcoins which would cause a immense price drop. If he does own a lot he could also have pretended to be Satoshi and released a message that destroyed the private keys to 99% of his mined Bitcoin. Instantly the price would have spiked up quite violently. or even better, actually send the coins to a "burn address" I was talking about the hypothetical situation where the person who broke in is not Satoshi but does possess a lot of Bitcoins. Then he could increase the market price by declaring (as Satoshi) to have deleted (or lost) the private keys to most of the mined Bitcoins. it would be an obvious attempt to game the market if satoshi just decided to announce that he lost his coins. Well, he had to wrap it into a nice little good bye letter from Satoshi in which he says he's doing well, proud of the community etc. etc. Make an anti bank statement and then say: as my final gift to the Bitcoin community etc. etc. I think a lot of people would fall for it and no-one could know with 100% certainty it was not him. there still isnt a 100% certainty that its not him doing this now. considering no one really knows who he is.

Bitcointalk admins maybe should check that Satoshi account on the forum is not compromised as well.
That should be checked aswell It seems that it is not compromised: no new posts have been made, and as far as i see there are no obvious changes in his old posts (didn't check them all). You can check for yourself here.

Guys, calm.
Dad, here are your slippers. I'm just trying to post what it's ok. We can't spread stupid FUD to the people until news are not "official" -- I'm going to stay here waiting for updates. Thanks for keeping us updated!

What would happen if the email address was DDoS'd? Would they suspend the account? It certainly would become difficult to manage with thousands of messages coming in every few hours.

The fact they called Theymos "Michael" hints to me that they are either active in the community or have access to previous emails.
Im sure its not hard to find his first name. But in my research/lurking I have never come across it.
I dont even know if his name is Michael. But I just assume so now

Perhaps, when you have a bit of free time ( now?) you can check what is a DDoS.

Might suggest he has access to his inbox, so might not be a lapsed account?

Should we assume that after iCloud now gmx is compromised ? Or its just a single account as guessed by Peter Todd too : https://twitter.com/petertoddbtc/status/509127519006515200

Satoshi is concerned with the over-serious tone of BCT, and wanted to lighten things up.
