A btc is about right for a decent coin logo. This contest should be at least that much.  Roll Eyes

Logo contest is on. Bounty is 0.2 BTC - see details in contest thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=793551

I'm not a graphic designer but I think you are seriously underestimating what this kind of work costs. If you want pro work, you gotta pay a pro price. People will invest time and talent for a chance at winning .2btc, that's the kind of work you're gonna get. If .2 is the budget, then straight up hire a freelancer for a couple of hours instead of running a contest. .2 is insulting for those who actually went to school to learn the craft.

I'm a designer and as a freelancer I generally charge $500 USD for a logo for a small business, logos I tend to not charge by the hour and prefer flat fees because a good logo may take anywhere from 3 hours of work to 30.

Naturally of course corporate work is a whole different ball game. Steve Jobs paid Paul Rand $100k to design NEXT's logo Smiley

NEXT logo is awful

I'd make a much  better one for half the price Grin

Nike logo was purchased for $35 and is much better then NEXT shit

And tell me where's NEXT and where's Nike in terms of success?

I agree with the logo prize being at least 1 btc. A good example is Credits, that didn`t even started it`s IPO, but they have a 1.5k usd logo bounty. I`m not saying to give the same amount, but 1 btc is a fair price and would make most of the designers put some good work for that. Think of it like this, in theory you only make a logo once, you don`t change it every week, month or year. This will be the first thing that everybody will see next to the name of the coin, it is important from a lot of psychological reasons, that is why companies pay good money for logos, ads, marketing phrases...

Gief link to your portfolio. I'm professional from a very different field, so my understanding of the graphical design is limited. Please forgive me my ignorance but it is very hard for me to accept 100,000$ logos (for example Moscow Metro logo cost $3,000,000+ and it keeps me stunned by this incredible amount). Somewhere in my mind I think that marketing effect from the sole fact of than amount of money spent is bigger than from actual logo. (Question remains what kind of marketing required for transport that is already serving ~30 000 000 passangers/day)

Why the contest is not for the logo and price together? The best logo with best price wins!

Actually a great idea. And it fits IPO strategy well. I'll change terms of the contest.

And tell me where's NEXT and where's Nike in terms of success?

Considering Steve Jobs leveraged his assets at NEXT to come back, take over Apple and use everything that was developed at NEXT to create OSX and conquer the tech world again, I'd say they did pretty damn good.

Here are a few more "terrible" Paul Rand logos Smiley

Np, i'll privately send it to you (don't need people harassing me on here). Obviously i would never charge 100k for a logo because i'm not that good lol but I think a good logo is important, Nike for example. Obviously for a startup coin project where marketing is not a priority I think a few hundred bucks is fair (just personal opinion)

How do you like the idea suggested above where designers post logos+price in range 0.2-1BTC and we all choose? I feel its fair, and pretty competetive.

In my unprofessional oppinion - even since most of his logos are great NEXT still sucks big time. Jobs should have payed more for better logo.

I think that is fair and also creative, haven't seen something done like that. Let the designer and the free market dictate what it is worth and you as client ultimately decide if it is a fair price to pay.

Craig, this would be very welcome by investors since the time frames were a little odd.
