How much do one of these XCVU440's go for and what hash rate do you think you can extract from it? Edit: It looks like the chip might go for $15,000 each. You'd better be able to do 30 TH/s to beat the current $0.5/GH/s price point. Lol!

Black Arrow is a scam company, the X1 is about as profitable as a USB block eruptor at 100Gh/s @ 1W/Gh at the wall. They're shipping worthless bricks to customers all the while mining to themselves first with Bitfury then with their own ASIC. X3 2Th/s customers don't even get a worthless brick (8% shipped that explode and burst into flames; units no longer shipping). 40% of X1 customers have received a brick so far.

Doubt it A generous way of saying it. Let me say it a little more forcefully. There is no way an FPGA will compete with ASICs. FPGAs waste a lot of silicon on programability.

X11 FPGAs are a special case where FPGAs can compete with ASICS because X11 ASICs don't exist and most of the IP needed to produce a X11 FPGA implementation does, and is in the public domain. http://cryptography.gmu.edu/athena/index.php?id=source_codes( FPGA source code for all the NIST round 2 sha-3 candidates which comprise X11 ) Draw your own conclusions regarding complexity/cost effectiveness from the analyses included in the link. However, its obviously less expensive to produce an FPGA based X11 system than an ASIC one because of the $NRE comparisons. No, I am not associated with the OP in any way.
