whats going on with the network? 57 minutes since the last block find?  Huh Shocked

Luck applies everywhere.

I'm glad to see projected difficulty change leveling out.  At current price, increases in difficulty are insane.

Currently at 9.88 mins between blocks.  If it stays that way, we're looking at 1.2% increase.  Of course 2/23 is a long way away... things can change a lot between now and then.

The luck has been mostly in the red ever since I put a miner over here.  It must be my fault!

Anyway, as soon as WestHash cools off I'll be moving another 4.5TH over here that I pulled from BitAffNet.

Yes.  11 days and 7.71% short.

I like to switch over to WestHash when they have good moments which is why I was sticking with PPS (low variance makes it easy to calculate that switch point).  At the same time, I didn't want to take a 5% hit by leaving BAN for a 4% PPS pool (my mistake, I would have been better off to leave).  Despite being PPLNS, the high N and lower hash this pool has theoretically means that I can have a miner or two switch over to WestHash every now and then without a huge risk of missing something on PPLNS (what little is missed should even out both good and bad).  The several days to ramp up/down here instead of a quick 10 hours are a feature in my case.

My current plan is to have my 4 miners set with WestHash thresholds of 0% - 2% - 4% - 8% over BTC, though I'm considering 2% - 4% - 6% - 10% instead.  The first one will be on WH a lot, the next one will bias toward WH, the third will bias toward this pool, and the last one will be here almost all of the time.

Heh - no - luck is simply just that - luck.
It goes up and down, but there is no control over it.

I guess I should point out another thing that may not be obvious:
Luck is the only thing here that affects your payout.
The PPLNS doesn't reduce it in any way, it only means that there is no gain from hopping.
When you submit a share, it is paid out in each block found in the 500% after the share.
Thus, there's no loss from not mining after the share, it's purely the luck of how many blocks are found in that limit after the share.

I also noticed you made a comment about a 5% loss moving from that other pool ... yowsers that's a worry.
So if you have an outage, or are unable to mine for whatever reasons on their pool, your misfortune becomes a pool payout penalty? Ouch!

Hello,

Short question I am the user Jujumax with 20TH my question is what is the CDF?

Regards

Juan

cdf is how you are compared to the average block time..     60% means 60% of the blocks are made in the time you took to make a block.  60% cdf is decent.

99% means 99 out of 100 black are faster then your block is

99% terrible

60% decent

30% really good.

look here  cdf is roughly tied to diff%

a higher diff% sucks as does a higher cdf %

Any diff of 100% or lower good  any cdf of 60% or lower good

last 13 blocks 5 good 8 bad

So if you have an outage, or are unable to mine for whatever reasons on their pool, your misfortune becomes a pool payout penalty? Ouch!

I need to clarify because I think I was misunderstood.  I was comparing BAN's 1% bonus to a 4% fee PPS pool-- there is a 5% difference between those payouts.  I was saying that I took extra risks with BAN to avoid the decrease in payout that would happen if I switched to a 4% fee PPS.  With BTC/USD as it is, 5% means a lot!

My only misfortune in the end at BAN is that the difficulty changed during an 11 day lapse in payment and their system changed my payout on the shares mined at lower difficulty to the rate of the higher difficulty (one moment it said I was being paid 0.4 and moments later it was 0.37).  Adding insult to injury, I was running less efficient (higher w/GH) for the lower difficulty, so there will be some impact there as well.  It could be worse though-- I could be out all 0.4!

tlhIlwI, ok, thanks for clearing that up Smiley

Regarding CDF vs Diff%

A Diff% of 100% = a CDF of 0.6321...
So bad luck is a little better Smiley a CDF > 0.63

The wording of the CDF is of the average expected result.
So a CDF of 0.63 means that you would expect that on average 37% of blocks would take longer.
The pool may do better or worse than that, but that is simply the expected average.
