This is really since yesterday that I started to own some Whitecoins... And I am glad I got even way more coins today on a little down, b4 the move up ;-)
I love what I see in this threat and in this community.
Will install the PC wallet and start to stake...
Any recommandation or advice before to proceed.
I am relatively familiar now with wallets ans staking but as I understand that some things need to be updated.... I want to make sure all is fine.
Actually, I have a question from the first post of the threat....
Is the bootstrap file info and process still up to date or I just install the wallet using the link in Cryptonia and let it sync?
thanks for the advice
Thanks for those who took this coin to better life!
Hello Altcoinlover, congratulations to your first whitecoins The bootstrap was updated a few days ago: http://explorer.whitecoin.info/bootstrap/You can use the link for the wallet from Cryptopia or from the first post, it's the same: https://github.com/Whitecoin-org/whitecoin/releasesThanks Banger thanks a lot for your answers. Appreciated. Will have to learn how to use the bootstrap ;-) Is there an easy tutorial to follow? Anyway, will get the wallet and put coins here asap ;-)

While wanting to use the bootstrap file.... I checked the first post....
In the link provided, there is a "raw Bootstrap" stuff, in addition of the boostrap tgz....
Do we have something to do with it.... or just really the .tgz?
And I am now confuse by the fact that the format .tgz is not recognized.... So, perhaps it is the raw bootstrap.zip I have to use ;-)
Other than that, I am not techy and familiar enough to use the other info regarding using a "cache" something ;-)
Otherwise, I will simply do as for other coins and let syn on its own ! ;-)
Go XWC !

Don't you just add the bootstrap file to the wallet's roaming folder and then delete all the other files except the wallet.dat and then restart the wallet?

I think you're pretty much right there. If not, doing that will do no harm

you only need to put it in the datafolder and then wait till it is sync. everything is working out of the box you dont need to to anything else. but it still takes time.
if you want to improve network performance than open port 15814 tcp and portforward it to your pc with the wallet. than you have about 15 - 20 connections instead of 3

Guys, I need your HELP because 1. without the bootstrap the sync stopped and the wallet is stuck now... 2. On this page: http://explorer.whitecoin.info/bootstrap/I downloaded the "raw bootstrap.zip".... when I unzipp it, I cannot find a "bootstrap.dat" file I see only btk001.dat and btkindex.dat Is it one of those 2 which is the good one to put in the folder? if someone can tell me exactly what do to with the exact file names and guidance, because I am not familiar enough to proceed there ;-) thanks!!!!

Next part of the story, I understood about the tgz format..... was able to unzip and finally find the bootstrap.dat file
I placed it with the wallet.dat...
Due to Winzip, I got messed up with the wallet file... asked again to unzip it...
now, as soon as I open the wallet it freeze while importing data from bootstrap....
I don't know what happened, is it by accident that happened right after winzip installation (which I HATE""").
So, I uninstalled, EVERYTHING for the wallet (except the bootstrat.dat, hoping it is not corrupted), winzip....
will start from scratch again... hoping this time it will work as it should....
Hope some people will be on the threat able to provide guidance
thanks

Dont get panic. if you never delete your wallet.dat nothing much can happen!!!! we can repair or something else your wallet. no problem. but if i am right it was a new one without coins. when i right remember i placed it only in the folder without unpacking but i will test it for you. and maybe it could look like it is stuck but it is working you can see it on the growing size of the directory. you dont need to install or uninstall anything. that will not help you.

ok you need to unpack it.
after wallet start you see importing bootstrap and then just wait a bunch of time. you can see in the datadir the blk0001.dat growing. so everything is working well. the window seems to be stuck but it is not if it is in sync you can work with it.

In fact, I was NOT seeing growing.... when syncing without the bootstrap, and then after all my bootstrap testing, it was tellinganother thing without changing.... ;-) Anyway, yes there were ZERO coins in it yet.... always waiting to sync b4 So, I deleted everything... and will start over. But before to do so, could you clarify the STEP BY STEP to use accuratly the bootstrap file. From where to download it and each step for that process to use the bootstrap because this is is that step I am stuck essentiallyInstalling the wallet is easy, this is the other part which are challenging me ;-) Also, is there a way to unpack the tgz WITHOUT winzip? It scrued up my stuff and created even more bad events after ;-) Thanks for your detailed guidance. I will develop your "teaching skiils" for the NON techy people LOL!

Hello Altcoinlover, I have also tested also the bootstrap.tgz in the following way and it works also fine for me: - Close Whitecoin Wallet and remove all files in the wallet.dat directory, but do not remove the wallet.dat file if you have already coins in there ! - Download the bootstrap.tgz from here: http://explorer.whitecoin.info/bootstrap/bootstrap.tgz- Unpack it with WinZip or WinRAR and you get the two files bootstrap.dat and bootstrap.md5 - Copy the two files to the directory where the wallet.dat file is - Start Whitecoin Wallet and you will see the splash screen with the text at the bottom: Importing blockchain (or similar, depends on the language) - wait an hour (on my side it takes approx. more than an hour) until the wallet is open and starts syncing (you can see the files blk0001.dat and blkindex.dat slowly growing) - now only the last few thousand blocks are missing - wait another 5 minutes and the wallet should be synced (I would prefer the raw_bootstrap.zip methode, because its much faster than this one) You should also create a file named whitecoin.conf where the wallet.dat file is and copy the following lines in it: addnode=66.135.60.199 addnode=162.255.117.105 addnode=78.94.80.14 addnode=197.231.221.211 addnode=58.7.230.69 addnode=73.223.177.123 addnode=178.202.217.239 addnode=78.94.80.14 addnode=213.122.107.232 addnode=95.180.64.11 addnode=72.74.138.99 addnode=175.32.224.165 addnode=5.189.144.97 addnode=190.13.240.133 addnode=40.112.185.197 Please let me know, when your wallet is also syned Banger

Hello again, this behavior you described is ok. It takes an hour or more to import the bootstrap file. If you use the way I described in my first post, then it only takes 10 minutes, until the wallet opens after the info "Loading blockchain". Banger

Banger IT WORKED !!!! thanks so much.... your first step by step worked perfectly, and I just have a few thousands blocks to sync. from my point of view, you should remove the bootstrap guidance in the 1st post, and replace by your raw bootstrap method. It is easy.... The only thing I added is that I deleted ALL files and folder EXCEPT the wallet.data before to add the 2 files and the folder. Some with the same names were there..... thanks for your help and patience ;-)
