Hey all,

Has anyone else been having problems with getting dummy plugs to work with their Sapphire 5850s?

I've just about given up on them as I should be doing everything right! 74.8 ohm resistors, I've tried 3 resistors and 1 resistor, I've even tried adding solder to the leads to assist in connection.

nothing. I've tried all 3 adapters (DVI TO VGA) to no avail... plugging in a monitor works, though! strange!

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Excellent. I don't need the plugs right now but maybe in a week or two when I can find a second cheap 5870 (motherboard doesn't support crossfire -hence need for dummy plugs). I'll PM you then if that's alright with you.

Cheers!

Fixed my link!

I am also shipping to Canada for the same price, .99 cents in BTC.  So currently 3 resistors shipped is around .35btc plus you can add a bumper sticker for about .2 btc.

Do either of you give discounts for buying more than one at a time? I imagine shipping would be a fixed cost... Smiley

Ive got some trouble in relation to this too, Ive got 68 ohm resistors and dummy plugs for my cards, but in the guiminer only one of the cards is shown to be able to mine. Im running Windows XP Pro (because I had it laying around) and the newest catalyst/OpenCL. One card will mine, but the other three arent an option even with dummy plugs. I plugged in my 2nd monitor to the 2nd card, and still no display output. Im NOT running these in crossfire, but Ive got 4 Sapphire 5850s in this machine, and only one works. Is this an XP thing? In the device manager all 4 cards show up, and all show to be in different PCI-E slots. Im not sure what Im doing wrong...

If you're using Windows you have to 'attach' the dummy monitor in the properties tab, so that Windows will use it.

This is the dummy plug I'm using:

http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=11

Careful with DVI dummy plugs, if you short one of the resistors it can blow the video card itself.  The VGA guys are far safer, at worst you're out just the adapter.
