Some economists have opined on BTC

Translation of the below paper:  good news and bad news about Bitcoin.

Good news:  Bitcoin is here to stay, as you will always be able to use it in the black market.

Bad news: governments will regulate it so it remains in the black market.

The Political Economy of Bitcoin
November 28, 2014
Abstract
The recent proliferation of bitcoin has been a boon for users but might pose problems for govern-
ments. Indeed, some governments have already taken steps to ban or discourage the use of bitcoin.
In a model with endogenous matching and random consumption preferences, we find multiple mon-
etary equilibria including one in which bitcoin coexists with regular currency. We then identify the
conditions under which government transactions policy might deter the use of bitcoin. We show that
such a policy becomes more difficult if some users strictly prefer bitcoin because they can avoid other
users holding currency in the matching process.

Bitcoin has been a big loss to anyone that invested from early this year, but you can only learn a trade when you put your money down.

There are hundreds of billions of dollars in the world and bitcoin only a few million. Paypal adding it, big companies are starting to accept it, use your head, bitcoin is going only up

one thing that really interesting of bitcoin is the pump and dump action, without this bitcoin is not interesting

Yes in right time decisions you can make tons of cash or you can loose with bad calls and decisions.
Anyway fun is this price fluctuations.

yes of course, i have an experience when i trade on btc-e i lost some $ there in early time with trading, but still it is fun

I think that Bitcoin primarily is not an investment and it is not a way how to make more non-Bitcoins (USD, EUR, ...). Of course, people who treat Bitcoin as get-rich-quick (or get-rich-slowly) scheme have a problem.

I think the birds-of-a-feather unethical mob that did frequent the buttyfly labs forums with their reverse pump and dump April of last year verged on criminal.

If it was a pump and dump wouldn't it have crashed completely?  It still is a consistent value and its still slightly going up even.  I highly doubt it was anything like what the OP mentioned...

If it would be Pump and Dump, we wouldn't be on that constant price level and this huge market cap. Pennystocks are Pump and Dump but Bitcoin is better. Bitcoin is a revolution. Our new finance system!

It is just possible that the pump and dump was performed by a set of players and has been completed. True believers could be preventing Bitcoin from crashing completely.

I think every currency's are a pump & dump
But, the difference they are backed by the user / developer / government

Bitcoin isn't just a pump and dump. they backed by the community
THis is what i think  Smiley

In a market economy, property is always unequal distributed...that's an economy principle.

You can't blame early adopters.

People who are considered early adopter see thing most people don't see.

They take certain risks, and with Bitcoin that risk paid off quite nicely for early birds.

It is pump and dump because the life is fading. You invest time, money etc. in your life to reach your goals and have a good life and anytime you die. This is the dump. But it's a measurable "pump and dump" Cheesy
