The ears is what finally convinced me, bulanula, although the face(s) confuse(d) me. We may have to move on and get off the identity thing, I now believe.

So, tell me guys, which one of you would be stupid to the point of getting $100k stolen and not report it to any authorities?
Let's even forget the part that it was Bitcoin and all the legal mumbo-jumbo: Compromising computer systems over which you have no ownership is a crime in almost all of the civilized world. Why not file a report just for unauthorized access to a computer system?
Also, how does Patrick know he was using "compromised servers as proxies"? Did he investigate, talked with the owners of those compromised servers? What?

This story stinks... just sayin'

One question is bugging me for the last days: Where was that VPS hosted? The VPS which gengix said lot's of people on IRC had access to and was the entry point for Patrick's email, you know...

This bothers me too.  Computer intrusion is a crime in the US (as it is elsewhere in the Western world), especially if you mess with or delete critical records relating to customers (it's even listed on FinCEN as a crime).

The HB Gary hackers were arrested and charged.  People have been prosecuted for stealing virtual furniture from Habbo Hotel customers.  The "but...Bitcoin" excuse really doesn't fly when a business has lost the equivalent of several hundred thousand customer dollars to intrusions in a few months and had their critical information destroyed.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Wow, I wish all I had to do to prove my identity was take a photo of myself writing a name and show a credit card with the same name.

Introducing constraints to the economy only serves to limit what can be economical.

Indeed. Maybe in China ( where he claims is from / or Australia / or Singapore / or Azeroth from WOW Cheesy ) Zhou Tong is like John Doe.

Guess it is not too hard making a few fake name cards with John Doe in the US ...

But I think he is legit this time. His username is "zhoutong" so he must be Grin

I'm not exactly sure what it is for other countries or other cards, but... https://m.greendot.com/custom.aspx?T=terms_condition. I'm pretty sure that all available information is readily available online for each card and their use(s) in each country.

I'm also pretty sure that if we dig deep enough, we could nail ZT's balls to the wall, while the other players watch nearby. Maybe we should be a tad more careful of what we post about ZT, but still post facts if they are clearly indisputable. Meanwhile, there's other higher-ups in the Bitcoinica chain that could still answer questions. Perhaps shedding some more light on how C B Heaslip of PushPay became a major player is a good start.

Later, bud.

In China, there's no age restriction to UnionPay debit cards as long as parents give permission. For credit cards, the minimum age is 16, but the liability belongs to parents.
In Singapore, minimum age for debit cards is 16.
In Australia, minimum age for EFTPOS debit cards is 12, and for Visa/MasterCard debit cards depends on the bank. (NAB says at least 18 but I had no problems getting one even though they are aware of my age.)

I am/was resident in three countries and I actively use fourfive (+ BTC) different currencies. These cards were issued by at least five different financial institutions.

Obviously it doesnt raise any red flags that Zhou Tong requires 10 cards, some debit(likely check with overdraft on it) and some credit, to operate his businesses ?

Does this sound like someone with any liquidity, meh.
