lmao I quite like that one, but it's also very true about the recurring bill thing, anyone who's dealing in Bitcoin now has to politely send an invoice to you that you need to pay rather than just steal the money directly from your bank account, great news for MMORPG players and the like as well as porn downloaders Tongue

 Shocked yes!
Bitcoin would be convenient for people who don't have a credit card or don't want to use the cards they have, either don't want the spouse to see it on the bill or don't trust giving their number to "porn guys", or afraid of recurring billing.

I think that I'm going to be one afternoon reading all the satoshi comments  Cheesy Cheesy

This isn't real, lol.

Now I want to ask something on that topic:
Do you think that satoshi is just one person or it's a group of people? ah?  Tongue

Well a lot of people sign up for automatic billing so they don't need to be bothered with having to remember to pay every month so there are some good things with automatic billing features. Although most reputable companies will stop charging your bank account/credit card when you request them to do so (even if an agreement says that you continue to owe them money) there are some that will not do this, for example porn sites (as mentioned by satoshi)

I've always liked the way this one makes it clear that consolidation in the mining industry was the plan from the beginning:

I anticipate there will never be more than 100K nodes, probably less.  It will reach an equilibrium where it's not worth it for more nodes to join in.  The rest will be lightweight clients, which could be millions.

At equilibrium size, many nodes will be server farms with one or two network nodes that feed the rest of the farm over a LAN.

This one echos the same sentiment:

The current system where every user is a network node is not the intended configuration for large scale.  That would be like every Usenet user runs their own NNTP server.  The design supports letting users just be users.  The more burden it is to run a node, the fewer nodes there will be.  Those few nodes will be big server farms.  The rest will be client nodes that only do transactions and don't generate.
...

Those are good ones. Should give people some idea about current state of affairs in mining.

...
Now I want to ask something on that topic:
Do you think that satoshi is just one person or it's a group of people? ah?  Tongue

Satoshi is a group... of one person Grin
There is only one of us here.

there is an element of everything in every thing

Probably the final thing he said on this forum before he vanished with over 1 million bitcoins he mined while controlling the lion's share of the Bitcoin network. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2228.msg29479#msg29479

"As Gavin and I have said clearly before, the software is not at all resistant to DoS attack.  This is one improvement, but there are still more ways to attack than I can count."

I personally like the one in your signature about Bitcoin's success in 20 years (the number of transactions).

However I think that these kinds of threads and people worshiping satoshi so much that they have favorite quotes of his are bad for bitcoin in general. I don't think that satoshi wanted to be worshiped in this way. Also if his identity ever is discovered then anything he says or does could potentially affect bitcoin

I didn't create this thread as a form of Satoshi worship.  There are plenty of things that Satoshi said/did that I don't agree with.  I created this thread as a way to promote bitcoin with, hopefully, positive quotes.

I like how he knew in advance that the Bitcoin economy would start out as a payment network.

As a thought experiment, imagine there was a base metal as scarce as gold but with the following properties:
- boring grey in colour
- not a good conductor of electricity
- not particularly strong, but not ductile or easily malleable either
- not useful for any practical or ornamental purpose

and one special, magical property:
- can be transported over a communications channel

If it somehow acquired any value at all for whatever reason, then anyone wanting to transfer wealth over a long distance could buy some, transmit it, and have the recipient sell it.

The most famous Satoshi quote appears on the Genesis Block.  It conveys the true meaning of Bitcoin.
