Both, the new wallet v0.5.0 and cgminer v3.7.7 are capable of handing both algorithm versions.  

From today till block 49,999 miners will continue submitting blocks using v1 algo.  After that, v1 blocks will be rejected by the network.

To ensure the network is up to date before the switch, the Wallet 0.5.0 will begin rejecting connections from older Wallet version 0.4.x after block 49,000 is mined.
