Hi guys & gals. I'm wondering while building a new rig should I just use the 4x x16 PCI-E slots and wedge my cards apart with an item? Or do you recommend buying flexi risers? I'm just a little worried about damaging the pcie slots from wedging the cards apart.
Thanks for your time!

Bump Can someone advise me on the types & amount of risers/adaptors I need to get 4x gpus working on this mobo? Thanks. As far as I can tell you don't need any risers. Don't screw the cards in tightly and use something to wedge them apart so they get better airflow. Your power supply only has 6 PCI-E connectors so you will need 2 Molex to PCI-E connectors if they don't come with the video cards. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812201004&cm_re=PCI-E-_-12-201-004-_-Product

What did people mean when "one gpu takes up one core"? Can you really run 4 gpu's on a Sempron without any bottlenecking? Because when you mine, it does also take up CPU power, mine's about 50-75% use.

Something wrong with your setup, gpu mining shouldnt use more than 5-10% in most cases like with me <5% cpu usage.

In windows, each GPU uses 100% of one vCPU. In Linux its more efficient. We have 4x 5830's in Ubuntu CPU is @ 60% on a Sempron. --------- But seriously, people need to stop building mining rigs.... Look at the price of BTC, its under $6 and the difficulty level went up 45% and a week ago it was at $8+. WTF.

Still doesnt quite make sense to me why its using that much, are you sure you arnt mining CPU/GPU at the same time? Which miner do you use?

You can get away, believe it or not, with a quality 750w PSU like the coolermaster 750GX Here is a decent PSU requirement calculator : http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com/advance.jsp

without overclocking 4x155W[4xGPU's]+100W[95W TDP CPU]+50W[harddrive/DVD-ROM/fans] ie, PSU with at least 70A[nominal, not peak]power on 12 BUS[preferably one, not many separated/virtual]. in hot/humidity climat or unstable powergrid - add 20%-40%.

Well I am running 100% stable on my mining rigs with similar setup you have planned: 750Watt GX coolermaster PSU - psu supports 4x 6+2pin power connectors PhenomII X2 unlocked 4cores underclocked to 1.6ghz and undervolted to 1volt (no cpumining, removes about 90watt from full usage cpu) 1x2GIG DDR3 (fewer ram slots to lower wattage) 1TB SATA HDD 7200rpm MSI 890FX-ND70 motherboard 4x Sapphire HD5850 1GB cards Most important : NO CASE, room aircon is keeping things nice and arctic

My first post ! I run 2x 5870 and had to wedge them apart (due to 5mm gap only, wedged to 3-4cm) and results in one having to be tuned down slightly to run at 71.5'C @395Mh/s, the other one runs at 62'C @ 420Mh/s You can buy risers which are designed for low profile cases that essentially turn the board 90', or you can buy a PCI-express x1 to x16 converter and place it in one of those short slots further away if available.. It's like a brain teaser puzzle but it is possible, you don't want your cards running over 75'C continually as they will die much sooner I presume ? Unfortunately I have the XFX edition and cannot change the voltages But still manage to maintain a healthy 800Mh/s, for now.. Is it still worth mining? I think so, bitcoins are not worth much at the moment and do not plan to sell any time soon, think for a minute why there would be as many as 8 decimal places ? MiningBuddy >> I am planning on doing the same and face the same issue with airflow problems, the one thing I thought about if there exists anything such as a male to female pci-e cable extension thingymagik, then you could put your 5870s anywhere you want and have them run nice and cool ?

coolermaster 750GX has 4x 6pin connectors, how can you use 4 cards with it with each card needing 2?
