Quite possible i am just skeptical the free hours might not be providing the encryption. Where ever the element of free service jumps in i have my doubts.

I can recommend NordVPN. Many servers, great speeds and while they don't have a native Linux app you can set it up easily anyway. Also, it helps that they are based in Panama so out of the 14 eyes jurisdiction. There's a deal going right now at https://nordvpn.com where you can get 3 years for $99, it is limited and soon will run out though. Other good mentions could be Speedify, Surfshark or Boleh. |

I signed up for PIA a year ago. Mostly satisfied. A few months into it I could not use the PIA itself for some reason and they advised me to use Open VPN, which solved the problem.
