This is going to be such a fun coin. It does not need value with regards to the USD but can be more like a powerful and indestructible hobby coin.

Yeah I agree... is by far my favourite named coin and yeah i don't care about it having a $ value, is good to test solo mining on and familiarizing yourself with cryptocurrencies without loosing $$.

... there are some people who switch on BBQcoin and let others connect to them, but u have to set up BBQ coin in a particular way to do that... believe markm explains in this thread how to do it... but basically people will turn off the client.. and there a VERY small user base... i never had more than 3 connected peers.. i on 1 atm

I think seeing if BBQcoin can survive this time around is a good test.

Are you mining BBQcoin right now? I am doing just to get the transactions quicker.

How about adding a chat interface like with Rucoin? And being about to write messages into the chain?

If when one fires up the daemon, even with -rescan flag, it does not check checkpoints in its existing already on disk blockchain, then I suppose it is possible that my node simply has not actually checked its blockchain against that new checkpoint.

I cannot remember now exactly what I did that finally got me a second node up and running, maybe I simply copied over my ~/.bbqcoin directory as ~/.bbq-privnet so maybe my second node that I fired up to check I could connect okay also ended up not actually checking that checkpoint.

I wonder how I managed to copy the hash wrong though in the first place. It was a copy/paste operation and umber of bytes so presumably it must be the wrong block's hash. I have made checkpoints a lot of times, I thought I had it down that he height shown in the debug.log a few lines adter the hash of the block is the height pertaining to that hash.

I guess I'll have to try again, see if I can do it right this time.

Do any of the allchains-explorer type sites feature a BBQcoin-explorer?

the older versions do only scan for missing tx's, not revalidate the blockchain.
i have to upgrade my block explorer to support scrypt based chains, afterwards i add LTC/BQC to it too

The difficulty of BBQcoin is rising nice and steady now, just need some transactions now to get the chain nice and busy.

Part of why I wanted to get a checkpoint into the code is low difficulty chains are more vulnerable to 51%+ attack than higher difficulty chains and I like to use only very well secured coins in the cold storage vaults (cold wallets) in which rest, hopefully pretty much "forever", the coins that back  tokens that I issue on my Open Transactions server.

With Ripple now in Open Beta I hope to bring this same approach to cold storage to the Ripple side, that is, limit my issuing of *coin IOUs on the Ripple network to the same "100% reserve, 100% of which is very very cold" tradition. Using a separate 100%, of course, not re-using the same reserve coins on both networks!

I expect that I do have some BBQcoins from several harded checkpoints ago though, so failure to have gotten another hardcoded checkpoint into place recently should not prevent me from being able to find some number of very very cold old coins to back tokens and some number of very very cold coins to back IOUs. Thus I am starting to think about adding BBQcoin to the panoply of coins my server supports...

Yeah BBQcoin FTW we gave BBQ a rebirth just in time for the summer

just to let u know Greedi (the guy who I believe 51% attacked the chain) had a massive falling out with a number of people and was basically caught snooping on peoples PM messages on the LTC forum, and has since been dropped as an admin, and from the last ICR messages is believed to have dropped off the radar for crypto currencies, so LONG LIVE BBQ

basically yeah there have been a number of suggestions of things that would be cool to see happen with BBQ and the Qt, some mentioned in here... but lets start things off... have u got the original source code in github?? would be lovely to see it hosted there under your name if it not already. Secondly I am a developer keen to try many (some might say too many) projects so I would love to see if i can help out at all (hence the request for a github source that i could try branching and tinkering with)

I'll leave it at that for now but there was requests to see some of the features that have been implemented on RUcoin (like the chat window and sending messages in the blockchain to others) so I will be in contact for sure as I see BBQ as a great introduction to the altcoin for all n00bs (especially in testing out solo mining) and playing with crypto currencies without the worry of loosing all ur money as you said from the start this is a bit of fun and that the way everyone seems to be viewing it to atm

I really like this coin as there is no "agenda" behind it, as could be said for some "other" coins out there.

BBQcoin has been created for fun and at the moment is great for people to mine their first ever block, no better feeling that solo mining I feel.

As I said before the chatbox in Rucoin is a nice addition but even in the Rucoin client it does not run very well.

The messaging system would be good as you could add a message to let the person know who it is for, this could be and is a very simple and fun coin without all the stress of having it being on the exchanges.

As for me its good to undestand a little more how the neworks are working.

For example I sent some coins with a transaction fee, and got that fee back in the next block my mining computer found (wich is not that one on which the qt-client runs).

I was wondering some weeks ago, if it would be possible to install my very own coin for testing, only in local network. Are there such sources for that?

I think a lot of people have looked into creating their own coin but I don't think it is something that is easy to do at all and would take a lot of time and resources.

Maybe someone could put you in the right direction for creating your own crypto currency?

I thought there would maybe be some kind of client software, maybee a qt-client which can be compiled with parameters like max number of coins, difficulty adjust after x,  and so on..
Then after starting it on 2 computers there is the network with 0 Blocks and you can begin to mine

Back on to BBQcoin, the client, Blockchain and transactions all look totally fine and solo mining is working perfectly.

The go to the console and type in getmininginfo

And it will tell you all you need to know.
