So, how and why? Just because you can generate in an offline computer it doesn't mean it's secure.

Then what is 'secure'? AFIAK cold storage is the best option and is very secure. Cold storage is done in an offline computer, does that mean it isn't secure?

You didn't understood correctly what secure is. If your peovate key is never exposed to internet, how can anyone steal the private key? Reused R values are a problem but it is different matter. Please understand what it is, what you are hoing to tell and then post the correct one.

Im using Mycelium and it works perfect to me.
It has many functions to be an android wallet.

But I also use paper wallet to hold btc, I think is more secure.

If your wanting a "watch only" wallet, you can get the newest bitcoin core and enter the address you are wanting to watch by using importaddress, I believe.

Problem is, when their servers have issues you won't be able to spend your coins, unless you have backup and you can import it.

those silver wallets do look pretty cool! i was just reading on their site, and i think they would be pretty secure as long as you generate your wallets on a safe offline pc, and keep the coin in a safe place too.

Yes, SilverWallets.com basically use https://www.bitaddress.org to generate the offline paper wallets.

thanks for the info, i think i'll probably pass on it for now. looks like it would cost around 0.34 btc to buy a normal silver wallet, which would be a big chunk of my current btc balance.

It is very rare and it happens mostly if you reuse address AFAIK. Bitaddress offers sufficient randomness, you can use alpha-numeric characters, special characters, mouse etc..

You are misunderstanding it. It is says you should be careful when using JS scripts online and it gave Blockchain.info and Brainwallet.org as examples because it is widely used. Brainwallet.org is mainly used for signing transaction. And it says that the JS script can be changed anytime(mostly by owners/co-owners/contributors) and browsers don't have airtight security as the most of them doesn't wipe caches, app-datas and sometimes it will be there forver and when you connect to interent, it may have a loop hole and you will be in danger. None of them matters when using Bitaddress.org in an offline computer and you can make a full wipe of browser-related files and if are paranoid, you can delete everything related to browser and uninstall it and then install it again(if you want).

Lower priced coins, but still pretty are the Cryptolator series coins.  If search hard enough, I'm sure you could get these for 0.1 BTC or lower.  Here's a recent auction on them:

BitAddress.org is an online JS script too. It can be changed in the same way as of Blockchain.info or Brainwallet.org. So, even if you want to use offline, you should download it and verify the checksums and signature (it's obvious for a more experiencied user like you, but as we are in the newbie section, I think it's important to remember this).

Coinbase is really good and more online businesses need to follow Coinbase's lead for security.  However.. just also wanted to point out that Coinbase isn't really a wallet.  Bitcoin-qt is a wallet.
