For games you should buy nvidid but for mining purposes the AMD. Is best for mining . Not btc but can easily mine altcoins like amd r9 series is best for moning and is available easily . But i am using nvidia for gaming also it can mine alts Smiley

Look back and read a bit. Nvidia's can mine, profitably. Don't use one of the old series though, you'll need a 750(ti) or one of the new 9xx ones. They perform a lot better (sometimes one 750TI can get more than an R9 280 on some algos) for a lot less power usage.
I'm afraid that the rumor of Nvidias being shitty miners will persist for a very long time.

You cant beat amd in mining with nvidia .

I have Nvidia geforce 480 and 650ti . I get decent hash rate but as you know 480 has heat issues i dont mine alts also i'd like to play instead of wasting time on mining.

You're being ignorant of what I typed. I told you that the older cards aren't worth it, only the new ones are AMD killers.

Can you please explain why is Nvidia better for games? I am using AMD 7950 for mining and gaming currently.

i figure out a thing if you use a graphic card to mine a scrypt or sha256 coin in the middles 2015 you get like 1 cent per day and spend like 40 cents soo in my case after september 2014 it became so diff to have profit i mean you only get loss the years of GPU mining was from 2008 to 2013 2014 now just ended and this can become a ended subject i guess lol:)

speak for yourself...  Grin

These posts are totally useless, tbh.
When people ask amd or nvidia, the wide majority just answer it isn't profitable...
(and if you are still mining bitcoin with a gpu, please don't give advise to anybody...
as it means you have been in hibernation for the past 3 years  Grin )

Stick to the freaking question, we don't care of your opinion if you are not interested in gpu mining  Grin
(and lets be honest, you are lost on a altcoin mining subforum which doesn't interest you so... buzz off  Grin)

pro amd: price wise a bit shipper
cons amd: power consumption and price (for the new model)

pro nvidia: power consumption especially for the 900 series
cons nvidia: well it is a bit pricey...

Hello. I want to ask in this topic which GPU to use in general. I have the money so there is no problem in that department and I am willing to spend to by a GPU to start mining altcoins with a good card. Reading the topics in this forum I noticed that there are 2 cards that stand out. They are the Nvidia GTX 1070 and the AMD Radeon R9 Nano.

Are these are 2 latest popular cards? Please give me a review and the pros and cons of each in mining.

better to go with the 470 or 480 than nano, since amd is only good on etheruem, and nano is too expensive, i would choose 480 for amd and 1070 for nvidia like you said

they are not the best since 2014, when ccminer was released, i remember that the 750ti destroyed amd completely at that time very power efficient, and good on everything

the GTX1070 is a beast (and looks fantastic because you can buy a wide variety of non-reference designs).

Its about $500 and can mine ~$6/day of lbry, or $3-4/day of ethereum/lyra2/lyra2r2

meanwhile, the rx480 costs about $300 and makes ~$3/day at ethereum only.

My curiosity Wink

Until some time ago mining with cards AMD compared to NVIDIA was very convenient especially in speed. But now, in February 2015, with the graphic evolution, amd is still the best and most affordable or not, compared to NVIDIA?

 AMD works perfect for me

The NVidia Pascal cards had a short run as "much better than AMD on certain specific algorythms" when they were released, but as of RIGHT NOW it's pretty much a tossup on mining efficiency between the two on a hash/watts basis - but AMD wins on a hash/$ basis since the release of the RX480.

There is at least one exception out there, but it's not particularly profitable - certainly not even close to ETH/ETC profitability levels.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

up to 272 with oc, but i prefer 250 140w, than 270 180w, the consumption rise too much just for 10% increase

Thank you for the replies. They are really helpful. I am now looking to do more research on the GTX 1070. I am also looking for which MOBO is good for mining. So if anyone has good suggestions, I am listening.

i always use the h81 pro btc, right now the heavy demand have reduced the supply, so if you don't find it in your store there are good alternative like the pro-g or h97 anniversary
