I am really keen to get the RX480 , although i am used to Nvidia for years now.
On the other hand i have an AMD machine but with a discrete AMD CPU.
I want to get a new card from what i have now which is the GTX 650.
I never ever knew about coin mining and i feel like an idiot.
If i were to get myself a Radeon RX460 graphics card or a GTX 1050 / ti then is it still possible for me to make even small pocket change?
Like i was expecting maybe 80 Dollars a month.
Have i completely missed the boat?

Would i be better off rather buying GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 instead?

Still undecided on which one, but it seems like what i see the Radeon is better at this stuff, though i am not experienced and i also hope i will be able to understand this 1st world stuff and be able to mine.

Many thanks

Hello !

I too was late to the party, started mining in Nov, just when ZCash had dropped, got some good earnings for a few days and then it was back to normal. I started with RX 480 and then got another one within a month, as I could only find videos and articles of ppl loving the card...

but that was only half of the story, as I involved more into mining I found out about the new miners being developed for nVidea cards and that I feel changed the game for nvidea. Though i still dont see soo much love for the GTX 10xx series.

Getting down to numbers -

I have 2 AMD RX 480 (8GB) , 1 r9 290(4GB) and 1 GTX 1060 ( 3GB ) ( all the cards are Gigabyte), and I totally love my GTX, it consumes less power, supports more algorithms ( can mine several coins which AMD cant ) and runs cooler.

Now each coin/algorithm has a different story and are too tough to compare as new miner ver. keep releasing each week and raise the efficiency. But I can say the AMD RX 480 does give me about 5% to 10% more hashrate but is 25% expensive and 15% less power efficient. So I would vouch for nVidea in present situation.

In b/w 1050, 1060 and 1070 I would still recommend 1060(3 GB) as its return over cost is best. You can roughly earn around 90 cents a day with 1060 at an average.

In my region, reselling a nvidea is also easier, so thats also a factor that counts.  The card I am referring to is priced $199 at amazon at the moment.

Hope my long advice was help full.

i agree that the best card for the money depends by region, for reference, i paid $110-160 for each rx470 depending on sales at the time, while gtx 1060 also costs 199 here in the US. 480 4gb cards are about $160 after mir here during sales, but a 470 is better value at 130 ish, less power and hashrate is within 10% of 480
