I think it was an error - someone wanted to buy 1 billion coins, not pay 1 billion for a coin.

same old 0 volume purchase bug that was supposed to be fixed before, I guess someone is actively looking at ways to exploit this, heh.

The question is: Why the hell the trading engine hasn't been stopped yet?

I think it has. Entered an ask 3 minutes ago... still pending. no trades on the feed. Cancelling order doesn't work. Exactly like a while ago (1 or 2 weeks?)

Yeah no trades for over 6 minutes, I think he finally hit the kill button.  Wish I had my money in other exchanges because they rallied as well, with no rollback possibility (probably).

Yeah, they halted trading a few minutes ago. That's a relief. Most likely this is some very weird bug in their system.

As far as I know the rally till $11.5 was completely legit. It was only after then that the asks disappeared.

You are probably right.  Somewhere between $11.20 and $11.50 although I would like to see someone come up with an exact time.

is this an issue that is possible to roll back?  since trading wasn't frozen what how would they roll back? say someone made 200 btc off of this glitch and then withdrew them. How to fix that?

Most other exchanges are around at 11.5 also, so I think at least 11.5 is legit. And MtGox usually being 0.2 to 0.3 higher than the others, even 11.8 sounds legit

Given precedent from last  year, Gox would roll back what they could (not yet withdrawn), try to get as much of the rest back by asking nicely (or maybe less nicely) and cover any losses out of their own pocket.
