Is there actually a database or at least backup for this thread? An attacker could and would potentially delete the post here with the address and signature and it would after all be pointless to leave proof of BTC address in here.
There is no database, backup (not sure about web archives), nor any special storage for this thread. And that's why users quote each others posts. Attacker can't (well can but its highly unlikely) hack multiple account at once, so your quoted post is relatively safe. If you get hacked, for example my account is still in my hands and your post with address and signature is like "written in stone" (attacker cant change it, only me). So as you can see, there some logic in this madness. |

You don't have to stake it here, just make sure you know how to sign one. This may become useful in the future, in case your account will be a victim of hack. That's the point of quoting the post before. The hacker cannot delete the post of someone else.
That makes good sense. Someone did that already for me. Thanks. Maybe there should be a short set of guidelines on top. I just stumbled across this today by chance. |

Sure there is. All user information, as well as all post information, is stored in a database. Theymos does regular backups and can restore just a section, thread or even post. |
