I have had more then a few more want to sign up. So I let toptek sign up he makes 28 signed up max is 30.  we have 2 inactive miners they may drop out.

So if you want to sign up today please post first two are in for sure.  next two after that will be placed on alternate list.




I have an outline in the post below. Hope it is clear.  


I am going to roll over the entire beta pool  on Sunday morning the 11th.  we have 28 members right now.  25 are active.

 toptek is new and has not pulled shares as of now.

slimepuppy
larrys6  both have been offline for days.

 
this new run will start on sunday morning the 11th at 8am EST time  which is New York City time. edit we are up and running


We will max at 30  people   so we have room for a few more.  Not going over 30 people. As it becomes hard to track.


  I will wait until Tues to add new people as it is a holiday weekend and I will be busy on sunday and monday.

I added toptek this morning.  we are at 28  but larrys12 and slimepuppy have not been active. we have room for 2 for sure maybe 4 if those two opt out

 of the 27 aarons6 is waiting on a stick from sidehack rather then leaving him out of the stick side I will point one of my sticks at the pool for him.  so the 27 of us all qualify as of today.

I have a Oct 10 share number for all of us it is for reference in case I can't access the share number on the 11 of Oct.  

I have screen shots of all 28 of us taken 5am this morning those numbers will be starting numbers.



Money/btc if we hit a block is as follows.

ck gets his fee I think it is .25 or .5 btc it is 0.125

the guy that hit the block gets the block fees. ----------  I am under the impression we can tell who hit it.

about 24 coins will be left.

 lets say it is 24.4     I think I will put the .4 in a reserve fund. what is over 24 will be placed in a hold fund as a reserve. Maybe we can toss it at sidehack for developing a new miner.

Note the line above is new^

½  of 24  = 12 btc  it is spilt 1 share a piece  so right now we have 25 active  so 12/25 = .48 btc  this could go as low as 12/30 = .40 btc

½  of 24 = 12 btc    it is spilt via shares

 so in my case I had

 28,820,507    sticks

245,318,052   my  total
455,201,852   team total  I would have taken 53.8% of the second half.

so I would take 0.48 from the first half 12 btc    like all other 25 active miners
I would take     6.46 from the second half 12 btc

my grand total would be 6.94 btc of the 24 coins

in a regular split I would take 12.9 btc of the 24 coins.  so I would be subsidizing the small 1 stick guy.

Phil, is your plan to capture and display screenshots of the pool members' JSON stats once a day? If so, would it be helpful to have the stats emailed instead?

It would be pretty easy to add a script option to enable emailing stats periodically. I have the script running on a machine 24/7 anyway.

Here's an excerpt from an actual stats email from a few days ago (including only the first few addresses for brevity):


The script sorts the stats by address alphabetically (case sensitive, currently), which means that the main pool address will always be at the top.

Is there any good reason to have miners with the <blah>donation suffix? I am not tracking on the value of that distinctions. The current/new payout plan really doesn't seem to care.

I assume you still want <blah>stick as the suffix for member <blah> ?

I suppose I could tell everyone point only 1 stick  on the stick side and everything else on the donation side that would work for giving the money out.
I also could say just have 1 entry.  that would work for giving the money out.  but in both cases no stick tracking.

So by asking for sticks on the stick end and donation for the non sticks we get to see how many sticks are here.


Remember all donation hash will get a piece[ b]part b[/b] prize money. nothing from part a money

This setup is a bit short of exactly what I want.

It does promote  sidestick mining here better then anywhere else
It does promote adding extra hash of any kind as long as you have at least a stick
It does track your sticks and your extra hash.


we are short on the setup below:
We have had a few suggestions  of how to give a bit more to the 2 stick 3 stick 4 stick x sticks  guy  with no other hash
 vs the one stick guy that has also pointed an s-3  or a 1 stick guy alone.
    I am working on that for the nov 11th to dec 11th run.

on this please keep sticks as sticks and other hash as donation.  helps us see how many actually sticks are pointed to the pool.

Put my 3 production compacs back.  I have kinda found perfect setup for mine.  I am able to get 45G out of three with the Y cord.   I tried to go higher but I'm using some small PC fans to cool my solo mining area so 15G each seem like best for me.  I am able to do it with some airflow and get warm but not really that hot.  The two pre-production I run at 8 as I really dont want to push them even though they could handle it most likely.

A little airflow really does make a good bit of difference.  I have it set up where my compacs get the air first then it goes through 3 U3's after.  I will take a picture when I have time.

Just got back from Long Island    we went from


492,148,006 to 628,319,171  so we pulled 136,171,165 shares in about 19 hours   or close to 7,166,903  shares an hour not bad

Do we still need to use a donation address or can we just add hashing power from our main address?

this run keep sticks on stick and donation on donation.

as it helps give idea of how many sticks are on pool.

Why stop at one?  Lets get 2!  Ok I know that is not realistic ... but I would be very happy with one.

But the nice thing is such a small cost on these sticks to run.  So we can really run long term with very little costs as far as electricity. For example I even have a RPI as the controller and it uses almost nothing in electricity and works perfect.

But I'm excited were doing a club instead of a ton of individuals.

I will make the adjustment later today or tomorrow.

third time is the charm.  I did hit 2 running clubs back in June.

We hit them in less then 2 hours apart but we had serious hash rented.

Would be nice, especially seeing how I lost 2 U3's today, thanks to a brief loss of a phase on the electric.

Everything else barely had a hiccup (I noticed it and shut every thing else down on that line). So a block payout, would hopefully help a gekko pod or 2, find a new home. ;)

The new system sounds pretty neat! As a New Person (tm) I appreciate it's clarity. Sounds like I should be point just one stick under "Stick" and then my other ones under "Donation" now however yes? I'm currently running all four sticks under Stick because my cgminer JSON file is broken and i don't want to re-type in all the server and user info again.

what I like about this is while you can miss out on your stick share if you are offline.

you never lose your accumulated shares for the entire 30 day/1 month  run. they will dilute but not vanish.

This encourages a 1 day rental  if you want to do so. or even a  1 to 5 hour rental for say 25th.

Well I am retired and do have some time to spare.

I also do wish to get this idea fully off the ground.

The goal for me is to get sidehack to the next level of gear and then one more level of gear.

My math shows me that a s-7 chip can be used for a .17 watt underclocked piece of gear.

maybe this could be inside a 600gh  board using 102 watts  even 120 watts.

If bitmaintech would sell sidehack enough chips to make  100 of these  we are talking 60th.

If most were hashing in a sidehack solo/club      we would hit blocks and the gear would be the most efficient gear around.

  We would turn a profit and since the chips are limited to 60th  it really would not hurt bitmaintech's bottom line.

In fact after we run this for 90 or 120 days they (bitmaintech) could use sidehack's design to mass produce  a s-7+ piece of machinery.  Every one wins on this idea.

nice ideas but bitmain being who they are now to big for there own good forgot us , in there S1 s3 days they would replace any thng you didn't have to buy it direct they just would etc then the S5 came they started going down hill in that respect . .  it would be nice if they would consider it and do it even give him a really nice price not the going rate it won't hurt them at all but greed tends to do that once they get a taste for having it all.

I thought the original idea was everyone runs the sticks with the solo, if block, even split between the total people running sticks (no share counting), so if there is 50 people running 200 sticks the 50 people get 0.5BTC each which would pay back most people sticks (if all 50 people had 4 sticks each, they would profit with 0.1btc)

Just to be picky, if sidehack built a BM1385 based miner, it might more likely be an S7- . Based on what we have seen, I think we all know what an S7+ will look like (i.e. a lot like an S5+).

I think at a certain point it get's to be unfun to try.  It's lotto so the difference between 30 and 50 people is not going to make a huge difference on us hitting lotto.  Are you wanting to join the group AJR?  Or just making these suggestions?

But  Phil had a pretty good setup of it being split part on no of people, and other part based on hash as so many have different amounts of sticks.

Personally, I haven't properly considered the number of members. I assume there must be a cap, but I haven't considered the Pros and Cons for the community as it relates to the number. I was pretty lazy regarding the whole thing. I have said immense praise and thanks to our man Phil who is doing more than a fair bit of moving names, numbers, and keep people informed, thanks again bud. I literally setup my sticks to hash on the stick pool and have been playing with one of them seeing how high I can push it (375 was stable. Voltage max and Y cable in a hub which puts out high amperage), but in general I have been lazy about the pool. I should be more involved though, and I've always enjoyed your banter with sidehack and would appreciate your thoughts.

I did see some ideas thrown around in the other thread and since I have not put a fair amount of thought into the direction the pool should take, bare with me as I struggle through something with you.

I am going to leave the member cap alone for now, but will circle back around.

The concept is fantastic. Requiring one particular model of miner and allowing a separate worker with 'other' hash covers the best of both worlds. You have the mainstay of the compac which should and has been dominating the posts in the thread. Sharing information with Peers who may have much more experience, or sharing what you know and maybe help someone. I think it may even be something which inspires more interaction between specific people who are even more like-minded regarding other topics.
I participated in the groups of sorts. I'm sure you have seen folding @ home or the SETI project. Some fantastic groups of people can choose to have their own team so to speak and it may cause situations where it inspires some great values and interaction.

It may inspire a little healthy competition as well. Which is again great for a group. I'm not saying we are there yet, but maybe.

I think any mining machine can take advantage of the same system. For example, start a group of S3s solo mining, or make it an SP20 club and reward for best underclock. Make it somewhere you know a group of people who not only own the same miner, you can try out things and have people who are definitely interested be involved, make replies, share great information, and it gets better over time, but quickly.

Circling back around as I promised to do...
It obviously cannot be 500 people in 1 single group, but that doesn't mean that if there is a large interest of people who want to be in, that something couldn't be worked out. I think Phil is trying to be reasonable yet still keep it at a decent wow amount IF the pool hits.
There could always be second or third groups and that would invite some competition that way, and a little trash talk with the comradery.

I look forward to hearing yours and almost anyone else's opinion of how you grow the size but maintain the scale at something which could grow to be 90% socially dependant. i would also appreciate comments on the donation of additional hash which is not a compac, or GekkoScience product in many cases. Obviously that would consist of additional compac's at this point, but maybe ol' type zero may come around.

The possibilities and positive things which may grow could be great and I look forward to being more involved where possible.

It has been discussed on previous page but I know it can be tedious to keep track, especially one guy.
It's true more people have a better chance but like notlist3d said the more people the less of a reward.
Kinda like winning the lottery and have 20 winners sharing the pot.  More hash can be donated to push
the chances but as far as a club currently I think it has been discussed by phil to keep it low for now.
As these projects of sidehacks take off the club I'm sure will grow and more will help in tending to the club
needs.

One thing, and it has been mentioned before, is to have multiple teams mining the same pool but differentiated by team names or numbers.  Not sharing the pot if your team wins.

Well ajrgale  I got back to write my answer. Seems like a lot of people have given answers that are pretty close to what I have to say.


we are maxed at 30 at this time.  we have 29 right now with 2 not mining so we have 3 empty spots.

all members have at least 1 stick  check

we have more then 3th                check

we are a rare pool that you don't lose  all your  shares if you stop during the 30 day run. Part A ends after 1 day   Part B just dilutes check

we allow you the miner  a minimum of 1 stick  check

we allow you the miner no max hash as high as you want check



I went away from sticks only 1 with a max of 50  because 50 x 10gh  or 50 x 8gh or 50 x 18gh   are all too small to let us ever really hit a block.

This setup allows you to mine 1 stick 24/7/30 .  It  costs  you  at 20-30  cents a kwatt for a month =    2 to 3 usd per month if you use a rasp pi,   plus 25 usd for the stick or 28 bucks.  If you do this  for 3 months  = 25 + 9 = 34 bucks  if we hit you get .4 btc  at worst.

we are doing 3.75th average  this is about a 10 percent chance for a block if you do it 90 days.

The goal is to get a 1385 chip miner in the 600 to 1000gh size that does .20watts or less.
The goal is to get 25th -50th in the club.
This is more viable way for a small miner to mine then any other method available.
If we can get to this good if not also good.  At least we tried a way to keep home mining around in an affordable manner.

Yes, I was half tempted to set up something like this myself, with the compacs, I  talked to my boss to see if there was a way to setup a "solo-pool" using Cons software, with the infrastructure here, it wasn't feasible, then I spotted this one.

i can see "this only miner pool" sprouting up, maybe I might just play with a U3 only pool..

I think OgNasty had his pool running seats and 1Oz silver tokens for auction every year/quater/months (one of them?) which is almost the same, a private pool with so many slots. so the concepts of set seats to a pool doesn't bother me, its basically based on what one can support.


when I get my sticks yes, I'll join in.
And no I'm not making suggestions, only questioning to what I know and observed.

Have you got a system that collates the hashes/users/donation properly? do you want to see if I can get someone to make a little website that shows everyones details and calculates a final winning output per person? i think Con has a decent plain text output that could pull info off.

^ this would be awesome and you can use the ckpool pool api-like return data using a list of the miners here. Phil would just need some sort of access to add/remove miners as needed.

For the shares, if you gave us 1PH we would definitively get a block at some point, and if nothing changed then you'd get nearly half for having 98%+ of the shares done. The other half would be shares evenly at 1 per person. 1/27 right now.

You'd thus get in the vicinity of 28/54 shares.

TLDR: Last a heard. Half of the reward is divided evenly, the other half is divided on the share count that is being counted at the moment.

yes  part a 12 coins  1 share per member   ===  1/27  x 12 or .4444 btc  worse case is 1/30 x 12 = .4   

part b    12 coins  based on total hash rate   so the 1 ph fuck it I making us hit a block  would get  say 95% of those 12 coins =  11.4


total for the 1 stick guy  would be        Part A  0.4444  +    part B 0.026 = .4704
total for the 1 stick 1ph guy   would be Part A 0.4444  +    part B 11.4   = 11.8444

Tracking part A is easier then part B

Tracking part B is not easy  and help could be used.

This would help as I would not have to post here manually  1 or 2 times a day .


Simple rules  for part A miss 24 hours of hash you are not getting a piece of part A coins
Simple rule for Part B  your hash shares stay for the 30 day run.  Stopping hashing cost you by dilution only.


We only need 4-24 updates a day,  since  Part A needs you to mine a stick  and I can tell if someone is trying to game system by turning stick on and off.

A running total of stick and donation  that auto updates more then 4-24 x a day(say every 10 minutes)

 is better  as it would be next to impossible to game the system with 1 lone stick

After the 30 day/1 month   run everything resets to zero.

Active miners can renew for the next run.

I've been using this for some time now, if you ask they should add CK'spool, it tracks well, if set right should track all this for you .you may need a  Premium Account, but to me it's really cheap . one way that might work .

If it works looks very nice from the GUIness they show on front.    I think splitting cost is fair as were all in it together. 

The only thing is if we do it I would like to have a shared login (normally i'm against shared but it saves us doing 25 accounts).  That way we can each log into it and see it ourselfs to.

Meh, then you have to trust every person who sends Phil btc not to go rogue and steal the account for their personal use.  I'd rather just trust Phil with the log in, after all, the point here is to make his reporting and monitoring for the club easier, not to give us all a tool to use.

I would agree Phil having to copy/past is amazing of him to do on this.   But long term it's not really a viable solution.  We can't have him clicking on everyone and copy/paste.   

I'm hoping this works good.  Seems like a good possibility with info shown on page.  I would think they can scrap it from there.  If they cant do it I still think we can come up with something between all us in group.

But if they do it for .1 BTC that is a good deal really for us.

so ck has not commented on public API for his pool
Now  maybe it is a lot of coding for ck to do.
On the plus side if he provides one we can do this idea.
Other people could make pool/clubs  say an s-3 club or an avalon club or a dare I say it BFL club.

I do not have any idea of the work needed for a public API  but I think we are dead in the water on this until we learn more..

No one mentioned this to me, and I don't monitor every post on every thread. There's no API code for the solo pool so it would be quite a lot of work. The pool code on solo is totally separate from the web component which just exposes the pool logs. In short I have no plans to implement an API for it I'm sorry to say as it just doesn't fit the design without a large code injection and subsequent testing.

Not sure exactly how Minera / Cgminer works but I could never get it working by adding the pool address manually.  Are you able to create a config or run from terminal command?  Either way you will need --compac-freq xxxx line in there somewhere.

I don't know how to create a config file in cgminer without already being in it. Is there a way to do that without starting the program? I saw the option to write one when I had it working the other day.

When I put in

sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.baktegonStick --compac-freq 200

it says "sudo ./cgminer: command not found"

man i have no idea how I ever got this to work in the first place!

Yes...do what Jake36 said..  You need to be in the root cgminer or cgminer-gekko folder to run your command line.

cd cgminer-gekko
then your command line like this:  sudo ./cgminer ......

Are you using the minera that was built for compacs? It's in the compac thread they did it where you should just need to put in pool in GUI and it detects compacs.  It is as simple as putting image on sd card for RPI.

I personally use raspbian as I like the linux feel.

I don't know if there's a cgminer-gekko directory, I can't find it if there is.

I am using the cgminer-gekko Minera image but I never got it to see my compacs.  For the month i've just been running cgminer in a terminal window. I may re-image my SD card to plain raspbian and install cgminer-gekko that way. Clearly i've been running on luck this entire time!

That's weird that cgminer-gekko could not find your compacs. I built that image and it has worked for me and many others.

If you want to try to call cgminer directly (although I'm not sure that it's going to help), it's located here:

/var/www/minera/minera-bin/custom/gminer-gekko

You should not need to run it as root. By default it runs as the "minera" user without a problem.

Before you tried running this manually, did you enable logging in the Minera GUI and take a look at the resulting log? Maybe it would provide some hints as to why it can't see the hardware.

Also, you're using a USB2 powered hub, right? You can't drive sticks directly from a RPi.

Cryptoglance, I've been maintaining a text list of the club participants here on dropbox (note that this URL will redirect):

It's a simple parseable text format. Comments are preceded by a "#" character. Addresses can take the form of a raw address, or a complete URL to the stats on the solo pool. The participants are organized by workers or donators via simple comments.

I've got a Python script that periodically reads the list from the URL to send notification emails. TheRealSteve has also been using the list to automate his IRC bot.

What we're missing is a nice web site that consumes the list and provides visible stats to the other members.

Maybe the way this could evolve is a single text list like this could drive any number of applications, including stats on a web site. I've been updating the list when I see changes posted here. But perhaps a better approach would be to give Phil write access to the text file.

That way Phil could update the list, and all the other applications could automatically update from that list.

Does this sound like a reasonable way forward for everyone?

Yes that is excellent, it could be read from any online text file. A service like google doc would work. The list would be public but it could be easily decided who tend to it. As long as the script or program/web server get the data from plain text, this would be simple and work very well to feed the database.

Simple error handling to ignore invalid output and this should be perfect.

I did log into the minera GUI and it looked like it would see one compac stick and the log would just stop, it was only eight or nine lines. I do have a powered hub yes, got 4 sticks and an arctic fan running.

yeah i read around and it seemed like everyone else was doing fine. I ended up just re-flashing the drive with raspbian and re-installing cgminer-gekko. I'm up and running now! Thanks for the help.

Those there work great and are really cheap price.  Con is takes a while to get to US.  But they make it really fun to play with freq.

running debian jessie in virtualbox 4.3.12 in a freenas 9.3 jail on my server in the basement.

I can compile and run cgminer-gekko. the compac is seen fine in debian. cgminer fires up and sees the clubs solo pool and connects. I get the welcome and block found messages. but it wont mine. the errors are as follows:


it does this over and over with the compac n number increasing each time.

any suggestions?  this compac runs fine on my windows HTPC.

EDIT: the compacs led stays steady green. no frequency arguments so it should run stock speed. this stick runs at 185Mhz on the HTPC so it should run fine stock frequency..

another good way to monitor your kit is with cgminers api. use kanos miner.php (its in a stock cgminer archive) on a home web server it will give you more info than you can shake a stick at. it has a mobile format as well as regular and anything in the house with a browser can check it.

I dont expose my web server to the internet, just the home network, but you could do it if you think your network etc is secure enough.

I had the same issue when I was trying to push my compact with a regular USB from my PC. I was running at freq 150 and it was just too much for the usb. I dropped it down to 125 and it runs perfectly without any HW now.  6.867GH/s

Assuming USB has enough power it should hit 8GH pretty easy.  But not all USB slots are equal as far as power they put out.

yeah Im wondering if the servers front USB port is underpowered.

voltage pot is set about 4 o'clock relative to the heatsink being "up" and the usb plug "down." without a clock argument on the command line I believe it runs at 125Mhz, since it runs at 185 Mhz with that pot setting on the HTPC Ill leave the voltage pot for the moment.

Ill try a rear port and/or a powered hub and give it another go.

Did I read somewhere that I can add a 'suggested difficulty' after the frequency?

I ask because when I decide to change something and get mining again, it seems I have to wait (up to 1/2 hour)  till I hit a 1K share for cksolo to down regulate my share difficulty.

Is there some line I can type in there to start out at diff 21 or so. A cut and paste line would be good as I don't understand the dashes and overall syntax. TX.

Just want to give you an update.

I wrote a small independent app that will log every worker in the list that was provided on Page 7 by philipma1957.

Currently it's set to run every 5 minutes.... No frontend available yet though, will work on that tomorrow.

Here's a screenshot of all the data i'm logging. It's saved per date, and updates throughout the day.

This output is pretty nice, are you able to, when displayed on frontend, to have any lines with a 0 as value highlighted yellow and highlighted red if all values at are at 0?

Yellow would mean not currently mining but mined in last week.

Red would mean no accepted share in the last week.

It might be worth keeping the "lastupdate" to know when a worker last mined in case they've dropped out. This won't affect winnings (if there are any), but it still might be useful to be able to say that worker "blah" has not mined since X date.

As I'm sure cryptoglance is aware, the lastupdate int value is just the the number of seconds since the C epoch. It's easy to convert to an actual date/time value.

tried it with my y cable on the servers front case usb as well as the rear mobo usbports.. still negative. so its not power related.

wonder if its some issue with freenas jails and virtualbox. USB passthru works and the stick is seen in cgminer-gekko, but it wont fire. cgminer-gekko keeps hotplugging it, timing out and then disabling it.

debian sees the mirrored USB thumbdrives freenas boots from (they are set up as raid 1), its APC UPS, and a test usb thumbdrive as well as the compac, so dunno..

only one stick is needed @ the part a  *.stick and only the 1st stick counts as the block split shares at that one.

I kind of wanted sticks with stick address  just to give us an idea of how many sticks are mining here.

My greatest flaw can be a lack of consistency due to distractions of life. And I may have told a few that  asked to  do 1 stick as the stick address and the other sticks as donation address.  This was done when the donations were 100% donations.  When I came up with the part a and part b idea  which is better as it helps the 1 stick miner or 2 stick miner and no longer completely fucks a donator I may not have clarified
how to set your self up.

Part of that was lots of us can not get a working conf file and don't want to write in long addresses to do a fix over and over again.

I managed to get working bat files so I can toy with my sticks easier then some of the others. (sounds dirty some how)

I think you are OK. As I am following it one stick goes go .stick and then the rest of your hash is .donation. part a is per stick and you get a whole share so for 30 people its 12.5 bitcoin devided by 30.  Then he adds up the shares for everyone and proportionally devides the rest of the 12.5 bitcoin that's part b.

Yeah it works as it is and can stay pretty much this way until next round.

We have a nice way to check hash shares.

Prize money is 12 & 12  a fee to ck .125 the guy hitting the block keeps the block fees.
This will leave us about .5 to .875 left over.
Of course we simply may not hit a block in the thirty day time period.
That leftover coin I would want to direct some to sidehack to help develop better gear.

as of now the club does not charge a fee.

giving a player the choice of how much to send at the pool.

A little more polish and cleaner thread this will be nice.

As to the sticks/donation discussion, I have two sticks pointed to my "stick" worker and misc. usb hash to my donation address.  I like the idea of keeping stick hash separate from other hash, but could also see how monster OC'd sticks would be fun to watch.  There probably won't be too many people pushing sticks to the point of combustion, maybe if they want to show off a single stick they could do it as .<username>singlestick or something.  Since the tracking is become more automated I would assume a few extra workers would not be a problem to keep track of.  The share earnings from a .singlestick address would be lumped in with that users regular stick address and count toward the part A funds.

I think it would need to be a contest like you said.  My worry is if we do 3 usernames it could add up to a lot of people on stat page.   Imagine  stick, OC, Donation.  I think adding a lot of OC's might look ugly if we have them on regular page of stats. 

But I agree a contest of something could be fun.  I'm all for more social group.

but if you put in 25 usd for a stick and 5 or 6 to get it shipped you are out  31 usd . 1 stick runs for next to nothing if you run your pc 24/7

 so your investment stays very low if you want to be in low.  your chance of collecting on a  part of a block  in 1 month is around 6%.

which means you chance of 3x your cost in a year is greater then 50%.  this is at the 1 stick nothing else level.

A solo block was just solved on ck's solo pool by a user with about 5TH, which is about what this clubs sees with the donation hash pointed at it.  So a block is definitely possible!  A long shot, sure, but still a real possibility.

Only thing is if we add restrictions on it we will get everyone pretty much getting the same max.  If someone goes out and mods stick and USB hub ... gets a huge speed I think that would be awesome.

The stick modding is beyond me but I'm guessing some in group can modify it to allow more voltage.

The biggest "cheat" i see is adding to it.  Say someone puts as it's compilation miner and adds even block erupter's gives them a slight edge over day it could add up.  Or more modern usb stick with a few GHz.

As for cheating  I came up with the same issue    try run 2 versions at the contest one the actual  oc's stick and 2 a   u-2 stick  balanced at 10 pools so just a tiny bit of shares bleed into the oc stick's account.

I need to look into that to see if it is detectable.

How would someone explain more shares shown on the pool stats than what is shown as accepted shares in a screen shot?

I checked shares at 10:30 tonight shown in cryptoglance's pool page + the shares shown in cgminer and will see if they match up tomorrow night at 10:30.  If they match up, it's going to be kind of hard to explain 3,459,890 shares on the pool page, when the screen shot says 2,867,453... LOL

EDIT: Just done a quick 15 min check, it was 34 shares difference. So that's probably just the time to write the number down from cgminer and reload the pool page.

Is it important to "register" my small donation using the .alhdonation suffix? While it was only 1+ TH for a little more than 2 hours, I thought I would ask. It seems that the CK pool software recognized and recorded info for it.

If you want to get credited for it in the eventually where we get a Block in this run, then yes. I believe previous run's hashrate won't be counted, though that would be good to get confirmation*.

At the moment it seem that half the reward would be shared evenly and the other half shared based on shares submitted, so registering your donation could be worth it.

i know i can get it to do 450 but i don't think it will last 24 hours.

I can feed four ports into 1 port and push 4+ amps but I think the leads to the finally port would melt long before 24 hours.

 the contest is not going to start until weekend of nov 14-15. I am just to busy running a round to give it the full time I need to .  besides it lets people get their y cables and cooling setup.

I wish I had the guts to photo the mess my house looks like right now ,but I am cleaning the garage the two sheds the attic and the crawl space. I can not believe how much stuff is in my house.

I will have time this weekend to tinker with mine.  Was trying to keep the cooling quieter since the Compac Cube runs in my bedroom.  But at my settings and cooling they are hot to the touch.
My 7 port hub says it's able to push out 2.4a per slot as long as all ports aren't full.  We will see.

I still love the prize of a compac stick.  I think winner might need it if they OC for 24 hours. 

I'm really interested in what is max speed for 24 hours.  The 24 hours makes it interesting as that is a OC sustained for a while.  I think this contest will provide some great fun, and possibly great photos.

I can imagine someone using two sets of Y cables to bridge 4 usb connections into 2, and then one more Y cable to bridge the 2 bridges down to 1, so you effectively have 4 usb ports into 1.  Commence fire and melted electronics.  ;D

I was thinking about spraying my setup with water proofing compound, reassembling it in a big bowl of water, and putting it in the freezer till solid. Then it would be game on.

OK 24 hrs, the page showing 391,620 more accepted shares from 10:30 last night, cgminer showing 391,602 more accepted shares from 10:30.

So looks like trying to sneak some extra shares in, is not going to work with having to post screen shots. Unless some one wants to sneak 20 - 30 extra shares in?

since my little hub got 30A at 5V directly from the PSU..

They actually say 1062 CFM in video.  It could be wrong though it seemed a little dated on video.  It is a interesting designed fan's.  All I use are more traditional round ones.

how many fans? are they 80mm radial design? whats the static pressure? how many rpms? what temps are they in?

is 110 db a or c-weighted <= a/c weighing makes a difference in perceived sound in human ears due to the shape of the ear canal. animals like cats/dogs hear much different)

these are big and each one weighs  27lbs.  I ran  them around 2007 in construction. that have warnings not to move them while running and  warnings to brace doors as they will close them with air presure and keep children  and drapes away from them. gotta love it

yup servers are LOUD and can move serious air indeed. 110db can hurt your ears long term ( i work at an ent medical practice with audiologists and run pro sound in a band ill grab a sound meter and check)  I have some delta fans kickin around somewhere in the basement

these are fairly quiet we ran them in residential houses. and we do have servers at work that need air conditioned environments.

the old thing is a Sunfire 280R, the 3x12cm fans (Fan Module 540-5088) are louder then a Vax vacuum, I have to yell to talk to the other person! So OK, its not 110 db, but it is rather loud. and they will push on your hand if you have it in the air stream (im thinking 250cfm each)..

also the 2700 is what the factory is rating them blowers for..

I used to use a electric radiator fan out of a car as an exhaust fan, they did 2500cfm and were only 16". I'm half tempted to setup a room to do that again, although the house I'm in has fold out windows, not sliders, so a little harder to setup..

I've had 3 sticks running at 16.5GHs each for over a week straight now, with no errors and no issues. That being said I wouldn't want to push them any further than this

I switched to a RPI so I spend a little money on RPI but it can be used for projects in the future.  If you use a RPI you are using so little electricity with a compac.   They really are great lotto.  I mean I feel comterable running for a year and if I don't hit one..... dang I had fun doing it. 

Compare that to some bigger miners I just can't handle the electricity cost even on a S3 or something without constant payment.

Thought I'd share my misery for the last 24 hours.
Tried playing with voltage and frequency (for the contest) on my two sticks and minera-cgminer pi.
Everything went to hell. Only this morning do I think I got things back to where they were- 24Gh at 225.

Also edonkey gave me this so I didn't have to wait for a 1K share to appear, which is what cgminer seems to require before down regulating my share difficulty. But it doesn't work. I did put a space and a number (80) after 'diff'

Hard to tell from your description what happened. Maybe you could provide more details?

In my case after installing the Y cable, I made very tiny adjustments to the pot then observed the results before making more changes. It took a long time.

Also, since I have two sticks where one performs better than the other, I had to strike a compromise between the two.

The default password for the minera user is minera. So something like this should get you in (replace with your RPi's IP address):


When prompted, provide the password minera.

I had an Internet crash.

So my twenty sticks my donation my s-7 all went down for 5 hours.

My s-7 did not burn up! I was happy about that.

I restored almost everything except for the one stick I was running for arrons6

need help with bfgminer

 I am setting up bfgminer and have a loop see screen shot

I get the same comms error, I've reported it in a few threads but never had any response as to what causes it or how to make it go away.  I get the same error using my U3 with bfgminer on this same machine, so I think it may be hardware related and not actually have anything to do with bfg.

On this machine I currently have 2 gekko sticks and 2 nanofury usb sticks.  I do not get comm errors with only the nanofury sticks, but once I plug in the compacs or the U3 the errors pop up.  Since the compac used to be recognized as a U3 I think that's a hint as to where the issue is.

The good news is my devices seem to hash along just fine, despite the error.  The only problem is that eventually, after 8-24 hours, the hash drops to almost nothing pool side while bfg still reports full hash speed.  At that point I just restart bfgminer and unplug/replug the miners, that's the only work around I've managed to come up with.

Pool side reports a bit lower than bfg, probably a result of the comms error.

Yeah I went to another home of a forum member as I had promised to set up bfgminer with five sticks. It worked on his setup.

I was doing it on windows 7 but in a vm on a Mac. Thus the error.

I think it is because I recently upgraded the Mac os

What are your thoughts on bfgminer vs cgminer after trying both?  I have been using cgminer as novak seemed to do a great one of it.

I was curious if you noticed any pro's or con's.   It sounded like bfgminer was getting better after update on able to use freq, but was not sure if worth trying.

Okay  when I set bfgminer up on a windows 7 at BuySolar's house it was a bit buggy but we got it to do 5 sticks at 60gh on bitminer.

It was okay.

Nothing compares to linux debian  running cgminer  I get 25 days of uptime or better close to prefect hw's.

I just need to spend time learning linux as it really seems to be good for these sticks.
