BTC was around $300 3 years ago.

Wonder how many people can hold BTC for more than 3 years and enjoy the amazing profit in this period :)

         There are quiet plenty of them around here, as i have been reading here since before, there are few of them who claimed they had bought it when it was still cheaper, while some also just hide their identities and atill remaining quiet about their earnings. As far as i can still remember there is an articke about it, i just forgot the link just try to look for it.

Of course. Most of the older members here started before 2013-14, and I bet some of them have been holding some since. I'm sure there are many out there too, and if you want a good read, or to relieve personal dreams/fantasies, here's a good article of how a kid bought many BTC at $10 each and became a millionaire. :)

Just hold them now and you wouldmay become one too after 3 years.

It is easier said than done in holding bitcoin for that long time.
The reason is , many people didn't know the value would be this tremendous and so, they sold of or were nonchalant about it.

However, with the outstanding growth of bitcoin, people have seen the need to hold, they either invest on altcoin with the intention of holding for long in expectation of what happened with bitcoin.

Ofcourse many people are doing this because they know that the potential of bitcoin,many people are doing it as an investment because bitcoin is giving more profits than the investment.
If someone want very good reap then he have to hold his bitcoin.

You would be surprised at the amount of people that have been holding they're BTC since the very beginning. Obviously, one of the reasons they're holding their coins for so long is the joy and happiness of seeing that you're getting richer almost every month. That must be an amazing feeling.

You could be one of them, start holding bitcoins right now and come back in 3 years. Who know what the price is going to be by then?

Imho you should either forget your password or loose your private key to hold bitcoin for so long. I know a bunch of prople that sold almost all their BTC when it was around 500$. If you've already seen 10x growth it is mentally hard to belive that it will grow 20 times more for the next years. The only thing that I find helpfull is not visiting this forum or any other crypto related websites, such things totaly distract from the final goal.

for sure there will be more and more investors will discover what bitcoin is :) and for sure there will be enough supply to increase the price of bitcoin in that time and also the long time users of the bitcoin will be rich at that time :)

Three years is not a long period of time so most of users will hold and try to collect more BTC before price reach 10 000$ or more.But every user have a desired price at which they plan to sell all coins or part of them.Sometimes people need money and they are forced to sell even before they have in plan,and also it can be very tempting if you buy BTC at 100$ to not sell today.Users who not have some big amount will wait more then 3 years-for me 1BTC for 100k$ is nice price.,3-5-10-15 years,more or less I can wait :)

Don't know whether other users lost their password or not, but I am holding it for 2 years and it is very wonderful to watch how the money is growing by itself. I had told some of my friends two years back that btc had the potential to grow more than 2000$(it gone too far 2000$) they didn't believe me then and now when it valued more than 5500$ they are interested in btc. 

I know right?! That is something I ask people to do all the time but can they really? With all the external factors that will eventually come into play will people be able to hold off? I'd say people are HODLing on the network.

A lot of people are holding their bitcoin for a long time because they know that it's profitable and they already gained a lot of profit from it. Bitcoin is a long-term investment so if you're planning to buy and sell immediately, you will not gain a lot of income from it unless you will buy a lot of bitcoin.

There are many users who were believing in the bitcoin and were well prepared to hold the bitcoin for long time. At that time bitcoin was actually gaining first serious traction after the mount gox incident. When it reached to the 600 dollars barrier these people became more and more serious. In fact people who invested at 500+ dollars mark were prepared to hold the coins with more determination. And soon same was proved when it reached 800 dollars and then crossed 1000 dollars. At this time people started to pull money they invested and kept pure profit that is half of coins they were holding. And there were who kept purchasing coins after coins as they managed.
These are the same people who are enjoying the status of millionaires in some countries. Emerging countries like Japan which is showing one of largest amount of bitcoin trade  is also showing holding bitcoin for long time.

Wrong. I am an example of someone that didn't need to lose their password or private key (why would you do that willingly anyway, you can use locktime to lock your funds for X amount of time if you can't control yourself).

I was able to control the temptation to get my BTC out and spend them on whatever, I resisted and believed in my vision and on the big picture and now im comfortably up with a margin so big that I can sleep well at night because I know it will never go as low as my entry point, I just have to keep holding long term and i may be able to retire comfortably in the next decade, I just need to keep my head cold and focused and keep living frugally.

There are still more people who bought bitcoins much earlier when its price was much less and they still hold bitcoins.Now,they enjoy huge benefits.But they have trusted in bitcoin when most of people were raising doubts about it and just terming as a fraud or ponzi scheme.

They have bought as well as held bitcoins for more years without getting panic and just avoiding FUD.So,they deserve to enjoy huge benefits.

But the percentage of those who had sold their bitcoins earlier and now regret is very high than the long holders.

I dont think the majority of coin holders before 2013 still have the entirety of thier coins. Most people i know sold their entire holding during the $1-$1.2k phase in 2013-14. BUtif anyone has held on until now, they must be thanking their past selves for not selling impulsively.

Well, I believe there are so many people who hold there Bitcoin more than three years that are here in this forum but they will not tell the story because nobody would want to expose what he or she worth in Bitcoin and since when they started holding there Bitcoin.

People with stable day jobs, who are earning Bitcoins as an extra income can surely avail this opportunity and keep their coins for a that long period, but people like me, who don't have any job (maybe a student which is my case, or any other reason) and bitcoin is their only way of earning money can't possibly hold all their coins as they need to spend them too. But still, i always try to keep a part of my income safe so if the price goes higher, i can also get some profit out of it, and so far, it has always worked for me. Despite spending most of my coins, i still have money and that is because i never spent them all and they kept increasing in size because of the price.

It is actually so, so hard to hold onto Bitcoin. It is too tempting to trade it and unfortunately for a lot of people they end up losing a lot, or all of their money!

It is not necessary to hold for 3 years to make that much profit. Alternatively, one can do smart trading. Buying low and then selling high. In this way, person can make much more profit than 20x in such long period as of 3 years.
I am doing something similar from last 10-15 months and able to make much more profits than what I would have made if simply hold the Bitcoins.

I for one will be incapable for holding bitcoins fr that long but i have recently made up my mind to start holding bitcoins for the foreseeable future because i see that i have missed some good opportunity by not saving but rather spending my BTC.

Well, if they bought em for around $15 each, I don't think they would have a hard time holding on to them. They can just take out some every now and then and keep most of it. Even if prices crashes anyway, it's not like they'd lose much considering how dead cheap they bought their bitcoins.

Let is calculate and predict the bitcoin price in the upcoming three years. You said the bitcoin price was 300$ three years ago. And now, it is around 6000$. In three years, it has risen by 5700$. So if we multiply 5700$ with 3, we will get 17100$. That will be the price of bitcoin in three years.

It is just a prediction based on the movement of bitcoin in three years. Nothing is true. But I strongly believe it will go beyond that price and reach 20k$.

There is so many people having the possibility to hold bitcoin for more than 3 years. Already there are already few people started holding since 2011 and they keep their bitcoins until now despite the price rising.
This people believe in bitcoin as the currency of their future, so they hold it for years.

That might be true, but some people, well, just like me, always seeing the price of bitcoin after buying some, and always have a thinking of selling it when pumps occur, and it seem that holding for more than 3 years
from my perspective, kinda hard to do.
Pretty sure that most of those people who ended up being millionaire from bitcoin are just don't care about their bitcoin, let it be, and magic pop out, the price increasing so signficantly, while im here, always monitoring the price 24/7

If I would have had money to invest in bitcoin I would have kept my bitcoin in the wallet until now. The problem is that I dont have money to invest in anything so everytime I get some bitcoins in my wallet I exchange it for fiat.
It is pretty hard to keep bitcoin when you see that the price is going up so much because you are afraid of not losing it. But there is no reasons to worry. The price will go up in next 5 years.

This is an interesting calculation.
But in the last 3 years, we have a lot of bad news about bitcoin exchanges plugged in at market prices.
If in the next 3 years news about bitcoin shows that positive things, then this calculation we duplicate to X5 :)

if we are refereing this to the number of forum members here since the beginning i'm sure the older member and the earlier adaptors are the sure holder of btc because they already know how it works and how importance is the bitcoin and its blockchain. thru thick and thin die hard bitcoin supporter and long term holders are proved to be the next billionaires.

I purchased by first mBTCs in 2014. And I am holding a part of them ever since (it is a little bit complex, as most of my Bitcoin earnings came from signature and bounty campaigns). But between 2014 and 2017, I was forced to sell a lot of my coins, and most of the time at extremely low prices. But then, I was not financially very sound and there were hardly any other options.

This is just speculation you are not including any barriers to now only country to ban is china there are rumours again they will resume trading again but what guarantee is there that in future no other country will go against btc.

Oh boy  $15 each that's a pretty dope rate many early investors had sold most of their hold but cheers to you for still holding on.

Yes exactly i was looking for someone to say this simply holding btc isn't a good choice at all i do get the fact btc has way to many risks involved weather you decide to trade or gamble but if you are someone who bought btc at $5k in order to double your profit it can take upto a year or even more with smart trading you can surely get your profit more faster.

Well if you'd give me a bitcoin, yeah, I can hold on to that for 3 years. I got it for free anyway. People only get scared and sell if they didn't buy it during a plunge. They worry that if they don't sell during a spike, they might lose money. It would take a lot to destroy bitcoin permanently now.

Whenever bitcoin price skyrocket, rise over $500 or $1000 within few months, most people tend to sell bitcoin due to 2 reasons;
- time to extract profit
- fear of missing out
It's inevitable for people which intrigue by the higher price of bitcoin, especially whoever buy it in the dip.
I can't hold btc for more than 3 years obviously, I prefer to sell it at the peak or in case I need cash.
But, prefer to sell bitcoin partially, not all at once.

In 3 years Bitcoin should have very good gains, but I don’t expect it to double each year. There could we a down year or a year where the growth is flatter than this past year. I think Bitcoin will have success but not at the pace of the past year. I agree that holding is the key to making us wealthy. If we can hold one Bitcoin for 10 years, it will probably be worth somewhere in the six figures.

You have to be really optimistic and have a strong belief in the future of Bitcoin to do so. Let's suppose you bought 10 BTC and the price got doubled in a year, how can you handle the stress when the price start going down for some reason? how can you stop your self from selling your BTC to cut the losses?
Any ordinary person that can't handle such situations, it will be wise to buy bitcoin with money that he don't really need and just forget about it for a long time.

I don´t think there are that many holders of the cheapest coin. There is always a psychological point where people sell and then can re enter with part of the profit off course.

Just think of yourself buying lets say monero now for 80 dollars or eth for 300 or any other example... will you be able to hold it to 6k without selling? evrything inside you will advise you to take profit before it goes that high.

Indeed, for the people who have been using bitcoin for quit some time, at some time in thier jornney have had an urge to exchange their coins or at least a part of it and get it in cash, or the ones have hold it for a long time probably got it when it was about 300$ but back then they didn't even dream of reaching 6000$ like tody, so probably as soon as it hit 1000$ or maybe less they sold it, and the small percentage of poepel who have held it all this time probably forgot they even had bitcoin.

I'm sure there are a lot of early holders out there, I'm sad I didn't even knew bitcoin back then, but I think it's a lot easier to be a holder now, than it was a few years back. There is more trust around bitcoin now than it was back then. Early adopters would have to survive the MtGox scandal, and the silk road scandal as well. Also bitcoin is getting regulated, which means that is gets easier to trust it now. There is no reason not to hold in these days. I think we are not to late though, since this is just starting. We are also early holders!

 :) i think I can not count but it's a bit because of the size of bitcoin when it comes to people who work for three years it means that there are many who hold bitcoin youngest first person here to work for so long .now that they have been leading campaign's to do every work here in bitcoin...

there are a handful of long term holders of bitcoin here, but the initial amount of that btc was already traded but they still do buy-back method, like if they had 20 btc at a start worth 300 USD each and its worth 6000 USD initial investment 3 years later the BTC surge to 3000 USD, so what they do is sell-off like 3 to 5 btc and they get 15k USD, so they made a profit more than 200 % percent out of 3 btc, they will buy back if the btc drops to 3k below like 2.5k. and bought 1 btc again, if it hit again like 5k or 6k then the same process they will do. 

For now i think many people are now starting to hold their bitcoin because we seen the continuous increasing of bitcoin value, every year it will gives us huge huge profit even me i am planning to hold my bitcoin for long period of time and it will lead me to be rich in the future.

actually bitcoin already existed from 2009 you can see the graph in 2009 until 2017, if you hold it from 3 years ago I believe you will get many advantages and have become the richest person

in my speculation maybe alot of people holding their btc for long term . Because of their beliefs or theory that bitcoin has a abilities to surpass on thier predicted value even its alway volatile and fluctuate.  The true btc holders is brave like a true warriors that can sacrifice no matter what happens.  And now as we see they achieved their goal cause bitcoin reach in the highest value maybe they earn much profit now .

i plan on holding what little bits i have now for the future because when i first found bitcoins they were in the 200-250 range, and sadly i am not smart enuff to trade and make money at it

well i think if there are person that can hold btc for almost 3 yearsaybe they are only few.because people really has a needs .and bitcoin is the answer of thier daily needs so then i believe that bitcoin is really a big help and it will going to spent for a  daily needs .and if there are people who can hold it for a long time maybe they are having a big patience.

Any people can do that but its almost certainly that not all of my Bitcoin holdings will remain intact for 3 years. What I mean is through out that period I will sell some of my Bitcoin and also will continue to accumulate it. With the markets changing all of the time we need to take advantage of the prices which we need to take profit because we don't know that in the next 3 years that it will go up in price.

There are only a few handful of people that can hold their btc for more than 3 years and those who can typically does not lurk here in this forum and does not check crypto news regularly. Those who regularly check for btc price changes are the ones who can't hold their btc long because they sell when according to the news, their viewpoints and speculations. On the other hand those who does not check crypto related news regularly tends to hodl their bitcoin long until they need it.

I think those who have 3 years holding bitcoin now they already have what they want like, cars, luxury homes, and vacation abroad. they have become rich, they have fun.

Well satoshis stock of bitcoins are still intact and unspent for more than three years and he hasn't gotten himself cars and those things you've listed up there. Not everyone in bitcoin is pleased with flashy lifestyle dude.

if we are strong enough to hold it for a longer period of time then most likely our bitcoin will be more expensive in the future. most people who believe in bitcoin value will increase in the future so that many dare to hold bitcoin in the long term.

I really do not think that it is only bitcoin that is worthy of being held. Promising cryptos in general can be held and profit generated from it.

Bitcoin started from when it was less than a dollar 9years ago, this is what the story will be for some altcoin in the future.

I believe that a lot can. For the early adopters, they were able to hold bitcoin for more than 3 years. I even believe that some have been holding up to now even if the coins that they have must have very high value. If you choose to believe that bitcoin will continue to increase in value, anyone would be able to hold it for 3 years or even more. Just look at how far it has grown - bitcoin has much more potential to grow even more in the future.

I think quite a bit of them out there, I myself included, although not big amount. because if you think, 200~300USD is not that few for young people with little money (as you don't know where the future price will be, it can be 0 next day, look at Mt. Gox...)

Yes that is right that there may be still some early holder, but i think majority of people may have got their profit from bitcoin from time to time, because bitcoin price is unpredictable and no one can say that either the price of bitcoin will continue increase or will decrease. therefore i think it is the best decision to take the profit from from time to time so as to reduce the risk of losing the profit again.

Do not know how many people will hold Bitcoin for the next 3 years. It is certain that the people who hold Bitcoin are very fans of Bitcoin and still believe in Bitcoin. It is very profitable to hold the coin for that long maybe the price is now doubled.

There's far more interest or should I say 'hype' now then there was before both for Bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrency market but smart investors are in it for the long term

Buying BTC now and holding for 3 years wouldn't be so difficult if you were planning to invest and HODL but you'd want to keep tabs on any serious competitors that may appear

i believe most people cant really hold their bitcoins or other coins for 3 years because that seems so long and most humans needs money to live therefore they should have withdrawn it even if they cannot get much profit on their invested coins not unless they are rich or billionaires that wont care much if what will happen to thier invested coins online though it also requires much patience and self control to hold much longer in terms of trading.

For sure there will be a lot of person that will do this. It was already a fact that 3 years ago bitcoin price was bit small but now its really expensive. So for sure, there will be a lot of person that will hold this and wait. Specially for those who have available fund to invest for a long term.

I guess those who were able to have their ICO and those who managed gambling site are the people who were able to hold bitcoin 3 years ago and if there are some ordinary people who hold it I'm sure some of them were having their own business enjoying their income and might be millionaire at this point. Really the growth in bitcoin value is amazing and inspired a lot of people here to hold bitcoin for few years to enjoy the good harvest

well i think there is no person that can hold btc  in 3 consicutive years or maybe if there  are  a person can hold bitcoin that far.maybe they are only few because  people who have a great patience  is only few.and others dont really have patience some people just holding btc for only one year.and if we talk about 3 years i believe  it is really hard to hold it .

I believe with that. They treasured bitcoin and keeping it for a long time, and considering that it could be useful in the future. And they are absolutely right, because value of bitcoin today is very far compared before and its a big money if it is converted into USD now. Maybe they didn't expect this to happen that bitcoin would be very popular and become a most promising investment right now.

For the past years where btc is still cheap and the majority of the people have their perspective that it is a scam coin of the btc have a huge dump like 20% above they will surely do a panic selling because they assume btc will fall, some of them bite to the temptation of selling because the price is increasing thus giving them 2 - 3x return of their investment but some of them are still holding until now, the pioneers that always believe that btc have a big potential, but for this days it is normal to hear some negatives rants about it even in mainstream media, it is normal to for btc to have a big dump to its price because we all know that not just a bounce back but a huge pump will increase the majority of the people who holds the btc are many.

I can't really assume how many people that is holding Bitcoin for that long 3 years, because even me when I see Bitcoin was doubled its price I have a high percentage in mind that I would like to sell my Bitcoin already because I got 200% profit with my initial investment. I think most people that holds that long for Bitcoin is the one that is rich enough to make it is a hobby of holding long term investments with Bitcoin and those people that really forgets that they have a good amount of Bitcoin back then and suddenly sees the current pruce of Bitcoin.

Yes usually it takes several years to become a senior member in the forum of bit coin so surely most of the people will have hold bit coin for the last three years and it will be very difficult to imagine the benefit of those investors who hold the bit coin for the last three years and they will become millionaire and even billionaire.

I was here 3 years ago and I have something saved from that time, not much that is a real shame, I could have much much more then I have now. I'm saying to some of my friends this days that we could be millionaires by now in 3 years, and with minimal investments, all they needed to do is to believe in my words and my dream about bitcoins.
I still have a dream and I'm sure that this is not over, its far from over, new wonders will rise again, and bitcoin price will rise like many other alts will. Be smart and keep some bitcoins, invest in some alts and hold them to. I made some mistakes, I was newbie and I didn't know nothing. Now I'm older with more experience and my advice is keep something for the future, its not late for holding.

It takes serious discipline to stop the urge of selling your bitcoin when it's price has doubled or even 5x its original price. That's why many people regret selling their bitcoins during that time. I think I would do the same, having double or even 5x the price of your coin is such a huge profit. Even I would never have a second thought when I'm about to sell my coins.

I think its possible if that person is so many tokens who hold. And he or she waits for the right time to sell it or he or shes waiting for the right time that the value of the token is high.

It is all about the need. For example if I hold bitcoin in my wallet and I do not need them why would I sell them? Definitely I would keep them in my wallet and when I need I will sell them out to fulfill my needs. I myself hold my bitcoin for my future dreams which I have seen for my family. I don’t need to sell them today because the price is rising continuously and I want more and more money to earn.

yeah maybe some people hold bitcoin for the long term investment, maybe they wouldn't open theiw bitcoin wallet until they need that money, if they dont need that money so they will close the wallet and close about bitcoin price right now

Not everyone must have seen the advantage back then. So many people were even surprised that it could pass $10, I have read some posts on this forum where people speculated that Bitcoin would never get past $15 at most. Lots of people must have sold, there is no doubt and so many people held, so it depends on each individual and how patient they get when it comes to investments.

That was a 20x increase in a span of 3 years. If the same were to happen in the next 3 years, we would be sitting on $120,000 per bitcoin. That is just crazy. I will be holding by the way.

WOW nice man. I wish i did it 3 years ago. Don't sell it when it hits 10k. Wait for it to reach 50k dollars you would have 50k in your pocket just because you invested earlier.

Are you planning to invest after that ? If i were you i would invest again in some coins but not on bitcoin because you have earned from it a lot and it is not rising so high anymore i think after that.

Anyone who has hold the btc for 3 years today would having some btc in initial stage would be millionaire by now. Nowdays people are aware about the potential of the btc so they do hold it for future. Previously this was not the case due to which not many people hold it.

Probably the smart ones and tbh I will hold my bitcoin for 3 years from when I bought it too. I got them half year ago and look to hold right up until 2020 halving. I will sell a small amount then to sustain myself but other

than that gonna hodl the rest for another 20 years at least.  :)

I bet only few were able to hold bitcoin 3years ago because for sure a lot of them converted it or maybe use to buy some altcoins they did not expect bitcoin can grow this big I'm sure many are now regretting that moment. With this growing demand and appreciation of value maybe now many people will want to hold bitcoin for a long run and wait till it gets $100000 worth per bitcoin.

ok, the question is, are they allowed in this three years to use them in exchanges and so on or....just to hold them in their wallets? If you mean the second part then i can assure you that those people represent 1% from the bitcoin holders.

I don't know many such people. Maybe some of those who even have forgotten they have Bitcoins in their wallets.  ;D
Couple of years ago no one could predicted the current Bitcoin price and holding Bitcoins wasn't so profitable so majority traded Bitcoins or have bought it for exact purpose but not just keeping the coins in their wallet and waiting. Now is a bit different and some are considering Bitcoin as an asset for the future and their long term strategy is to hold and make profit that way.

The more people hold bitcoin the more it will help and continue to grow. There is no impossible to that if many people will hold bitcoin for more than 3 years because of the bitcoin popularity. Many are dreaming to have a better life, now that bitcoin is popular world wide there is possible that many are now doing bitcoin as their source of income. How much more for more than 3 years? There is really nothing impossible if bitcoin continue to grow.

That would be interesting to know, I have been holding bitcoin for a year, but the amount that I have is not big enough so it is not really that difficult to hold, however as the amount of bitcoin that I hold keeps increasing it is getting harder and harder to hold it but I have plans to hold for at least 5 years since I have no doubt that by time, bitcoin will be a lot more valuable than it is today.

I'm pretty sure that alot of us here holding bitcoin for more than 3 years now. some are newbies but for sure they have a targeted price. it be worth it in the future. so buy and hold bitcoin.

yes, there are even some people who hold bitcoin that has more than 3 bitcoins. I think right now, he's celebrating a bitcoin price increase, and I do not think his cause is worth it. this is the highest price of bitcoin.

I think because of the previous rice trends, more people will just keep their coins, the only question is until what price will they keep the coin? IF ever there will be a deep in price in the next months how low can they go before selling the coin.always expect for the price to fluctuate in the next years.

Without any doubt you can easily say they are more than millionaire in my country. If someone have bitcoins in last 3 years and now if he is selling then believe me there are more than luxuries for him in our country. And I often regret why we didn’t know about bitcoin in last 3-4 years. If we would have known about trading and investing and such huge profits, we are now enjoying luxuries too.

   I believe there's a lot of people still holding BTC for more than 3 years. Seeing the trend of Bitcoin today they are very positive that next coming years can be more fruitful. This is bacause of the continuous spreading news of bitcoin as well as the continuous support of the community and different company all around the world in cryptocurrency and bitcoin being on the top give them more courage to hold them. But lets not forget the fact that anytime bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can fluctuate its value.

Although bitcoin is spreading in the internet we can't figure it out how many of them were holding for more than 3 years.This is due to blockchain technology that transaction can't be traced.But in this current situation probably they would think it hardly and seriously because bitcoin now is almost at $7000.

I don’t know how many people will hold bitcoin in three years but I know for sure it will be many as bitcoin price grow everyday and the community grow also. People realize that bitcoin will be more valuable than what it is right now.

It is hard to hodl with these prices. I've bought a couple of things on the way up and used BTC for the payment. I would never ever cash out all at once or something like that.

Because of what happened to the coin's rice for the past years, more and more people
will just keep the coin for good and will just hope that the price will multiply again in the next years.

Those who are able to hold their bitcoin for three years is really amazing because personally I can’t and don’t experience to hold bitcoin for such long period of time. Since it is actually increasing its value currently, I tend to spend it on some neccesities for me to be able to provide with myself thru other income and not from my actual job salary. Also, those who are able to retain their bitcoin for that long were really lucky for it is on the rise today.

To tell you frankly, it is not easy to hold bitcoin especially if you have doubts or many what ifs in your mind. Holding bitcoin for quite some time is a little bit difficult because you will worry if bitcoin price will go down or up when you keep it for a long time. But nowadays, you need to stop doubting because as you can see, bitcoin keeps on increasing its value. So no need for us to doubt if we will keep it for along time because we are already sure that it will grow and will not decrease its value.

this is what i thought as well, maybe there few who held their bitcoin for a long time but most of them already spend it because if you think of it you have a tendency to secure your gain and that is the hardest part if you want to maximize the profit you want to get by holding those bitcoins.

Probably these are people whose income is big and who knew that bitcoin will grow very fast and high.  Those people who needed money, of course they sold their bitcoins.  But do not forget about those people who had experience in this area, it also influenced their decision.

For sure there was a lot of people who could buy(and probably bought) 50 bitcoins for 10-30$ each. So if they invested in that project so early they should at least still hold 1-5 BTC. To be honest i could bet that most of you behave similar currently. But maybe not with bitcoin because of its high price but with others coins. well 3 years is short there some early adapters who invested in bitcoin in 2011-2013 era where the bitcoin is 1-5 dollar per coin that's why some are holding a thousand btc in their address, and think about that they just earn 6000% profit by holding it for years but it took alot patience to do it and some holders are just forgetting it. by looking in past i just realized that we have made this far and still long way to go.

if they bought bitcoin at $10 - $30 each then i think they sell all their bitcoin when bitcoin reached $1000

It could be quite challenging for those who bought bitcoin before 2003 and still hold it till date, I am very sure just few of them had been able to achieve that aim of holding it this is due to the uncertainty or unstable nature of the price of bitcoin majority of theose holders might have sold it off when the price hits $600 of course they had made considerable amount of profits.

I think there will be many people who are able to save Bitcoin for more than 3 years to be able to profit big. Most people must have a major job or a major income to support their lives. Besides, they can still save and collect Bitcoin in their wallet. Except in some cases people will sell their Bitcoin because of the urgent need or perhaps debt. Some of them may be scared of Bitcoin prices that suddenly dropped so they immediately sell their Bitcoin.

If we look closely, we will realize that in 3 years the Bitcoin price is soaring dramatically. So I guess there will be many people who are so convinced and believe in Bitcoin. There will be a lot of people who store Bitcoin for years.

For sure those people hold their bitcoin last 3 years ago are now happy because they can earn a lot of profit now. Count to think of it the price last 3 years ago is 300 dollars only but if you see the price today its already 7k dollars. Your money become 23 times . What if you have hundreds of bitcoin for sure you are now millionaire. I salute to those people bought bitcoin and Until now they hold it .

But whether they just keep it for up to 3 years, or they do it for various transactions so as to decrease the amount of bitcoin they have or even increased. I think myself not be a naive person, if I have some money then I convert into sum bitcoin, of course I will not just to leave it.
I certainly will often see the changes that occur in the market. As to which decisions I will take when bitcoin declines in price, or when it rises in price.

Yes there are those people who are really lucky to have bitcoin when it was cheaper and just holding it would become millionaire but for many people here who I believe just have known bitcoin maybe this year has a chance still to be millionaire because the price of bitcoin may keep going higher if we keep supporting it. There are some who become millionaires because they hold some altcoins that have multiplied in value from its ICO perhaps. For those who got in just months ago can still be millionaire even this year if they know how to trade because trading cryptocurrencies open so many opportunities because of its volatility and some altcoins do double in value in just days.

Everybody is investing in bitcoin just for some months everyone is investing into it just because for the sake of huge profit and huge profit come after a long tenure if you want to earn only small part you can cash it out after several month and if you are aiming to achieve big then bit of patience is required and most of people are investing and holding for the long tenure of time so that this coin can serve them in best way.

A lot early adopters had sold their coins at 2000,3000 and even 5000 dollars, as any person wich would is able to sell their coins with profit. Soo the big question is each person has invested different into bitcoin, the true believers might had already changed their life, but they still with the coins, its very hard to resist to the actual value of bitcoin being an early adopter, the same way to those wich had invested at 1200 dollars into bitcoin, because its almost 6x their investment.

I know lots of early adopters who sold their all bitcoins for $500 last years, very upset action. They couldn't guess that bitcoin can go that much further. We don't even know if it can really weach $100.000 levels as the rumors are taking place.

For all the people who holds the bitcoin 3 years ago is now feeling on cloud nine. The value of bitcoin now a days is going up and up which really is a good thing for they profit a lot from this. For the next 3 years the dilemma is the same as it was 3 years ago since we don't know whether it will going to rise continuously, risk is always all over the corners, the only way we can do is to live with it and believe that it will continue its path the way we want it to be.

I can hold Bitcoins for even 5 long years. There is no problem with it for me. I can easily store them in a very safe wallet and let it sleep into a giant asset. By the time it wakes up, it is already a very huge asset. We can see from the past several years since Bitcoin was invented that its price has always been climbing. We can definitely say that it will continue to happen because the hindrance before is much more difficult than what we have now.

Lots of people have been holding since the inception and creation of bitcoin and I see no reason why anyone should still hold for more than 3 years right now, be it a newbie or an old player in the game.

Only those who had a large number of BTC available in their accounts would have stood up and waited till date (may still be waiting for 10k or even a million) because even if they move some BTC, it wouldn't cost them too much as they have something already left for today. You won't see many addresses with such amounts that had not been moved for years, because there were many forks based on which they could have changed their wallets and addresses to safeguard their coins.

You do not have to be rich in order to hold for that long, you just need  discipline, I have not held for that long only for something close to a year but I’m planning to hold for a very long time because I know that bitcoin is going to be my ticket to a better life, I will not become rich with it but my life is going to improve dramatically if I keep holding and bitcoin keeps going up in value.

Well, Shit happens and most of us were there. I wished I had listen to my instincts to buy lots of bitcoin back in 2009/2010 when I was hearing some little info here and there about it but at that point I was just too tired of getting to do with online investments and then here we are.

I think there are a couple of people that could hold BTC for more than 3 years because the people I know who are into Bitcoins hold their btc's even more than 5 years and are still holding on to them up until now. So the answer would be a lot! Imagine how many people now are holding bitcoins, hopefully it will be enough for circulation too.

I'd already cashed half of the bitcoins. We do not know what will happen in the future. Technologically, most alcoins overtook bitcoin. Perhaps we are seeing the last peaks on it.

I may be wrong but I guess that many early birds had their BTC stored at MtGox, which was the main exchange at the time. I remember myself wondering whether I should buy or not some bitcoins in 2012, when its value was around 5$. I would have bought them through MtGox and would have lost a potentially huge profit... so I figure out lots of early holders sold or lost their BTC before skyrocketing

Lucky you, I haven't even heard of Bitcoin before the Mt. Gox crash. In a few days it's going to be 3 years since I've registered here and around that time I've made my first bitcoin purchase. I still have some of the coins I bought back then, so 3 years here I come! 8)
As for the Gox victims it's still possible for them to be rich one day because there's a significant amount of coins being held by the authorities who are still figuring out how to redistribute them. I'm pretty sure if they even gave people 10% of what they used to have on Gox, it would still be worth more more in USD than what they had lost.

well holding btc is really hard specially in everydaya  life because we as human we have our needs  and we know that bitcoin can help us in our needs .i think if there where be a person who can hold btc they are only few and they have a verry big patience because if people dont have  patience they can really hold for a long time.

Feew? I disagree. You can find many people here who did just that. Most well known Bitcoin faces had coins stashed since 2012 or even earlier.
If you really want to know how many coins are being held you can look at the biggest Bitcoin wallets. They are listed online, so that's an easy job. Look how many of them weren't used for years. There were no incoming and outgoing transactions so people are holding! (or they lost their wallets and are in deep shit)

It is a complex answer,i had a good amount of coins which i purchased when the price was below $500 and usually when the price hits the $1000 mark we would see a correction and i made a good profit when it touched that mark and purchased around $800 and then sold everything when it touched $1800 thinking we would see another crash and it never happened. :-\

Buying bitcoins is the easy part but holding bitcoins for 3 years that is the hardest part.
To be frank not many people can do it. When you buy bitcoins you will be thinking about it everyday.
You will be struggling with your mind to sell whenever you hear negative news about bitcoin.
But if you can manage to save your bitcoin for at least a year then you'll double your investment no doubt.   

I guess it's not that hard to be able to maintain bitcoin for a long period especially of you know for sure that it's value will grow exponentially over time . It's like making an investment with 0 efforts , all you need to do is just wait and your funds will grow by themselves . Bitcoin is the currency of the future and sooner or later people will regret not onvesting in it .

At the very beginning it was impossible to forecast such an exponential growth, nothing was less clear than the future of bitcoin. So if you entered at let's say 1$ face value, when the price topped 350$ in 2013 you already pocketed a nice 350x upside. If you invested 1000$ at the beginning you turned to get 350000$ in you wallet few years later: that's a decent amount of money! You would certainly have used it to buy a house, stocks, a new car... it's hard to imagine you would have kept this volatile amount of money in you wallet given the uncertainty of the currency.

Depending on how well they bought in though, cause I remembered so many people complaining even 3 years ago that bitcoin was too expensive. Indeed. The are so many crypto lovers on the forum itself who are smart enough to guess that bitcoin will rise in the future and they made the investment as early as 2012. Its most easiest thing to do but what comes across us is the emotional stress that we can't bear for long if we are not strong enough. I think there is many people is hold their bitcoin for more than 3 years and now they can withdraw all of their bitcoin to make huge money. but if this is happen to me, I don't think that to sell all of my bitcoin is a good idea because I will hold the bigger amount bitcoin in my wallet and only selling if the price is increase higher. Bitcoin is quiet interesting to use especially if the desire to use it for your needs and wants is occurring. I'm there are few folks in this group can do really keep them and allow to grow for investment and other stuff in the future. I think it always depends on what goals you have.
When you invest in bitcoin to make a certain purchaise the time to cash out is there when you can afford the thing you want to buy.
When bitcoin is planned to be used for your retirement, you sell it at that point.
In general I think the average bitcoin holder is still young. Holding it for three years or more should not be a problem.
But selling at a certain point is inevitable.
It makes no sense to have a lot of coins in your wallet at the end of your life when you could have used them to lead a better life.

 i am holding my BTCs more then 4 years now but not all of them some of them i sold to buy alts , but still i am happy as i was lucky to have good amount until now , but in ETH case  i was unlucky

Patience really pays off. Bitcoin's price is its example. If people invested in bitcoin from starting they must be enjoying their luxurious life by now. They got return on their investment which no other bank or anything else have provided them.

I dont think there are quite a lot of people who save bitcoin for 3 years other than millionaire and people who develop the own blockchain, firstly people with money dont really look at short term investment while people without money will possibly sell them when btc double that price while some others who believe and working on the blockchain know the possibilty for this thing to become better and become a trend and they would keep their beliefs and now reap the fruit of it  ;D

Yeah people would really choose it long term goals and don't prefer to sell their holdings right away. Everything needed patience, so that's applicable idea for now since price moves quickly and unpredictable as you noticed the actual fluctuations may vary on every aspects. We can make good sell out of it if we can reach a good price as profit will come to surprisingly.

The people or bitcoiner who hold there bitcoins more than a three  years  are those people who have strong patience in terms of holding there assets.sometimes rich and famous people hold there bitcoin in a long period of time because this coins only a extra of there whole asset  and they want to reaped it like a fruits.mostly rich people have there own goal and prediction of when this bitcoins should grow ,to used this in the future needs.

I think they just don't care that they have it before.. I meant maybe they bought it when the price was still 3-10$ each or maybe their family member told them to do so at first, so they just bought few like 10-20 btc. And they just let it be... and when the price of btc is pumping up, they remembered that they have some and sell all of it :D So I think most people that managed to hold it for so long is based on pure coincidence.

I don't have any idea how many people are holding BTC for more than 3 years but for me i am still holding my Bitcoin its been 2 years now i only need 1 more year and i think that i can still hold it until 2018. That 1 Bitcoin is very secured i made sure that i won't be able to access that wallet, i let my wife to change the wallet password and told her that we will used that Bitcoin whenever we need it for emergency only.

That's quite easy and I think I can manage that since I don't depend on my earnings here in crypto to support my everyday needs. The only thing I need to keep in mind is the reward I would reap after holding it for so long.

I don't think that people save their money in the banks in order for them to gain profit, the interest is very low and you would get a very meager addition. They mainly put their savings their for security reasons because they believe the bank to be a safe place to keep your fiat.

Im not sure if how many of them ,what im sure of they are many i have a friend that offered by his co employee 3 yrs before to make a site and he will be paid of 10 btc he refuses and ask for physical money instead in which the other man dod,he was paid for 130 dollars.coz he has no knowledge about what is crypto all about,until late last year when some other friend open to him the crypto and was shocked about the price.now he invested half of hes funds here in bitcoin..

Everyone has his own point of view but I think otherwise. In my opinion, it is bitcoin which is far better in terms of investing money than that of altcoin or any other coin.

I don't know about bitcoin, but I would tell you that I have a stocks that I have been holding for more than 15 years now. Right, I was part of the dotcom bubble and I have stocks that I have bought during that period (1999-2001). So I think for bitcoin its possible to hold it for longer times. However, the online difference is that bitcoin is gaining very big every year or even months that's why its very hard to really hold in for longer terms unless you really bought like 1 bitcoin and store it in your hardware wallet and just keep it away.

I think more people will have an idea about bitcoin since bitcoin is becoming famous nowadays. More and more people are becoming curious about it thats why they surf the internet and read some articles and news about bitcoin. I think the price of the bitcoin will soon explode and it will become more famous.

That's quite easy and I think I can manage that since I don't depend on my earnings here in crypto to support my everyday needs. The only thing I need to keep in mind is the reward I would reap after holding it for so long.

I think those people who hold their bitcoin for 3 years are those patient people who want their future to be good. Not all people have the ability to hold bitcoin in a long time because some of them just spend and convert it right away even if the price of bitcoin goes high in a minimal amount.

A lot of people are holding their bitcoin for a long time because I believe that bitcoin is a good and a profitable long-term investment. Just imagine if you bought bitcoin when it first started, and held it or forgot about it and sold it today. You could've earned thousands of dollars by just holding it for a long time.

Yes not only the few but a lot of the people are using the bitcoin and they are earning with the bitcoin, according to me the bitcoin will have the highest price and the time is getting more and more high I can say the bitcoin will be high in value and the demand of the bitcoin will be high with the passage of the time and the this is the main thing about the bitcoin value and the price.

I agree with you it is not difficult to hold it it is just difficult to know when to sell you can make yourself a price like i will sell it all if it is worth 10k for one this way you set a goal what you want to achieve and when it becomes 10k just sell 50%.

So many people did even in past years and so many people are still doing. I have held some, I have sold some and it all depends on each individual and how long they are willing to hold or how urgent a particular need may arrive for them to have to withdraw. Holding is good and anyone today would obviously know it is better to hold than to dump.

That is just something that can give a whole lot of profit even at the end. Taking advantage of the market at highs and then getting back in at lows. It is not just by holding all the time. There are so many opportunities of making more money that abounds in the market. True, I think some of those people who knew bitcoin years ago hold their bitcoin until today and im sure they are super rich now. Im hoping I can hold my bitcoins that long as well but it really depends on the situation though. Maybe if i have a lot of money i might hold bitcoin as much as I can.

Bitcoin has made a lot of the people rich now because the bitcoin is the best investment to the people who are having the bitcoin and the value of the bitcoin will be very high as much as I know it is getting possible I am very sure the bitcoin in the three years will be more than the high value and the investment will be the best way to have the best future.

To be fair, I always wanted to really hold bitcoins but everytime when this coin rises then falls much and I sell them to not lose but as it seems I lose because everytime there is better chanse coming. I bought bitcoins when price was 700$, then see it rised and make new record, ovet 1000$, I sold it on 1300$ and was happy, made profit. But what? That was the worst mistake, now price is so much, I could get more than 10x profit and at that time I didn't get even 2x profit.
Really hard but as we see, it worths, even if it will be 10 year, it rises but have a look on news too.. Everything can change it's way.

 Holding bitcoin for 3 years knowing that it has bigher price today is such a challenge because you will be tempt to sell it in order to gain more money. However, if you don't need money that bad then you could hold it for longer time and hoped that after such time, the price would be higher.

I wonder that people even can hold the bitcoin for more than 1 week. Because bitcoin goes up and down in value but it is not really calculated if it will go up or down so you gamble till you can make some money and if you win some you lose some so bitcoin.

I was able to hold Bitcoin for 2 years and some months, which was 2015 till now, well, I will still call it the same 3 years, and I know what kind of profits I have made so far. It’s really good to hold, but not everyone can do such by holding Bitcoin for a long time despite everything, every fall, and so on, and so on. But that is only true if they are holding a lot of coins, if they bought one bitcoin for 1 dollar they got an incredible ROI but not much in terms of dollars, instead a person that bought 100 coins at 500 dollars made less in term of ROI but in dollar terms that person is close to be a millionaire, however I think that no matter how many coins you have we need to hold, a lot of money is going to come to bitcoin in the next years and if you have even an amount as low as 10 bitcoin you could become a millionaire.

Agree with this, there'll always some price pump that distract people from holding their bitcoin for such a long time, 3 years is just too much of a long time and if people who holds that btc don't have that much of faith to bitcoin or in the state of doubtfulness with their investment, a little bit of price pump could lure them to sell all of their assets. There are a lot actually that have that kind of patience when holding something. i'd say almost 50% of them still holds their bitcoin maybe for investment.  Actually I knew a person who holds her bitcoin up to now. She holds it up to now because she's still waiting for the right time when bitcoin reach to it's much higher peak and she told me it's better to keep for investment. Large number of users does it. The growth is big while compared to investment schemes that are available to the people around the world. Also here we doesn't need to fulfill out of necessity to be a bitcoiner, whereas the same is not possible with several investments. Based upon that large number of people will continue to keep hold of it.

Many people are holding the Bitcoin for a long-term and one of my friend is holding the Bitcoin for more than 2 years. I told him to sell when it is at $20k but he is not showing interest towards selling the coin. he is just i want to hold the Bitcoin for another 3 to 5 years span.

The price will always be volatile because day traders are moving the price regularly.
If you go for long term hold, just don't mind the short term movement of the price, instead look for the long term as that is your purpose why
your are holding, long term holders are benefited with good price based on the trend, so know the right timing to sell.

Yeah, which I think they already have a good  way of living as they didn't sell their shares of bitcoin many years ago. They didn't think that it could be like that huge amount as they set on their mind as an investment which they have no problem regarding on their financial stabilty on that time. Well, it depends on the attitude or how they keep money on their own.

As of now bitcoin was indemand to many people on holding bitcoins,based on my speculation I think lots of people hold btc for more than 3 years because  it will get more profit in a long term investment.And as time goes the price value was flactuating and still increasing anytime so they are more excited to hold btc for long term.

The key is to always hold an amount of BTCs. There isn't problem in selling some percentage of your total held amount every few months or even that a good opportunity appears since you don't sell all your BTCs. Bitcoin's volatility scarry us sometimes, but always keep in mind on long term Bitcoin will overcome all the negative volatility. Also, don't think in BTC's price all the time, forget about it for a while, just store your coins safely and wait.

I agree. I think there are some people who have held their BTC for a long time. Just in waiting to actually encash it for profit. However, like the thread said, three years is already a long time, and a lot could have happened within those years. I think that when investing, the best would be a year or maybe a little over it. Having to keep your coins longer than that would be too risky and unsure because of the time period. Also, it's already too long that the end game of gaining profit would be nullified, and I think, the investment won't be as gainful anymore due to the time discrepancy.

Honestly speaking, people now tend to do more the buy and sell strategy than holding for more than 3 years or less. Because as they se that they get profit everytime it pump they do selling of it and wait until its price dump again before they buy it. Wrong. Most of those people aren't waiting to turn it to cash, but to turn it into goods and services. Many people, including me, see BTC not like a bond or a check that has to be cashed in, but as a currency that just doesn't have enough merchant support to be used with ease, but this is coming and it's coming fast. 2 years ago I couldn't really do anything with my coins besides selling them on an exchange. Now I can buy goods on Amazon, order food online, even pay the dentist nearby. Times are changing and that's what you should be looking for. Goods and services, not fiat!

I don't think there's a lot of people who can do that. Maybe those who were born rich. If a person was born in MID class or even lower, the tendency of needing money is very high. 3 years without converting your money to cash might be impossible since we needed money for everyday needs. But if a person has a decent job who pays more than what he needs, he can try holding BTC for 3 years. It will be worth it!. I'm sure a lot of company owners invest a huge amount of money on bitcoin because of its potential.

There are many people that can hold bitcoin for more than 3 years and I'm also one of them. I can't promise that holding the original amount since the beginning will remain but I'm doing my best to add when I have spare money and when I'm about to cash it out, I'm also returning it if there's a chance. I'm looking for more actions on bitcoin after a couple of years maybe 3-5 years so I'll be one of those people who can hold bitcoin for more than 3 years. Mostly that can hold this for long are only making bitcoin as their spare investment or they have some other things to do so they don't have to monitor it for awhile and they believe that in the future bitcoin will be worth more than what they are expecting.

I guess this is debatable. I bet when the holders encounter the highest peak that bitcoin's value reached, they would itch to cash it out because there is no guarantee that such thing will happen again in the future, and knowing people, we are all cautious when it comes to our money. So, holding for three years is quite a difficult thing to do.

Yeah because they considered bitcoin as an asset and believe that someday it more valuable. Those people able to hold bitcoin that long is now reaping their fruit of patience. Those people of course considered it a long time investment that’s why they can afford to hold that long. And also considered a precious entity like gold or diamond that the value never devaluate.
 

There are many people who uses bitcoin because of its giving benefits. They invests into bitcoin with two different ways. Some of them invests their money for short time and some people likes to invest into here with a long term investment.

Depends on the amount and how much money you have. If I know that I can afford  to hold 1 BTC or even a few BTC for a few years without needing the money for anything - why not?

Not all can, but some can. Buying when cheap and selling when it high is a good thing and im sure the profit will be huge. For me, I dont think I can hold for three years.  Well maybe if I have enough or more than enough which I will, then I can hold.

In a span of 3yrs, there were times that for how many times in a year, bitcoin price changes. And I believe that every time it changes, it changes the bitcoin holder as well

I remember it was just two years ago when the price of bitcoin was around $350 and I started to work in bitcoin community. At that time I was well aware that the price of bitcoin will reach too much higher but due to the expenditures on me I was unable to hold all my earnings but still I have some from time to time and in that I have some amount for which I am very happy and Thankful to God.

I think few people can do that because as of now lots people that want to buy and sell than to hold their bitcoin. Some of them have weak hands once they know that they get a profit they sell it.

Well, i think its not essential to hold bitcoin for more than 3 years because most people here in a crypto world have purely smart trading. As i notice them commonly a wise man they are one of people do buy low sell high pretty hard that 3 years will make it.

I think people who kept Bitcoin that long are those who maybe didn't even have the intention to cope with Bitcoin seriously on long term. Maybe they have bought it and just forgot about it and left it to sit idle in some wallet.

yes, I agree with you but some of us don't have patience and selling their bitcoin when the price is dropped too far. I think this is a mistake because we don't have to sell the bitcoin and we can buy another bitcoin if we still have money so we can increase the amount of bitcoin that we have and besides that, our average buy price will reduce so when the price gets back to increase higher, we can take a good profit if we decide to sell our bitcoin. there are many people still panic when they see the price is down and they cannot hold any longer and they only sell the bitcoin.

It is hard to hold more than 3 years. I think a person doing that have a another income in there daily needs. Because we all know that in times we need a money we want grab that price even thats not our target. All we want is higher price to have huge profit as well .Each one of us has different decision makings if we want to have a long term or a short term to hold BTC. Its up to us how we can handle it.

If someone have bought bitcoins from someone else's money or may be by borrowing money them they certainly cannot hold it for too long, let alone three years. There are people who do this. They get so crazg over the whole profit making thing and end up getting into debts for few or even parts of bitcoins. Such people wont be able to hold it for much longer as they need to payoff their dues and thus they will sell their holdings as soon as they see the prices rise a bit.

On the other hand, if someone bought bitcoins from some surplus amount them they dont have the fear of losin it or rather they can easily hold it for a longer period of time. Someone who have earner btc out of nothing can also easily hold it for long years in order to make good profit because they got nothing to lose, unless they are very greedy though.

There are plenty of them in here who invested bitcoin when the price was low like $300 or $1000 or even higher prices. Some are doing day trading to make more bitcoin and to continue holding it because bitcoin is still young and had much more to improve this alternative and decentralized way of payment and asset has a bright future ahead. Btc like any other coin was really cheap. Remember the infamous Papa John's pizza worth 10 BTC? That dude may have been a millionaire now. Lol. If I were in his time I would be skeptical too. Over the past few years at the beginning of the new bitcoin was created till holding for 3 years is very profitable and certainly for those who have done it of course now they will become millionaires today. Nothing harm in holding Bitcoin for 3 years or more than that, they might be using that as a long term investment like the retirement fund etc for future. Actually this is a good idea holding Bitcoin for several years which will yield some good profit like x5 or x6 times profit maximum. If I have plenty fiat I would have chosen this method obviously.

One thing is very much clear and that is the ones who are having some good patience level are actually the ones who will end up as millionaires one day. The thing is if you have this much of patience that you can continue to hold your bitcoins for more than three years or so, then this will work in your benefit. To me, not so numerous people can invest and hold BTC for more than 3 years for fear of unknown futuristically at exact targeted period. I can only keep my Bitcoin for the most extended six months but the three years is less than 50, we can see that Bitcoin has a more significant fluctuation than other currencies, saw Bitcoin drop by as much as 90% last month and many are still obsessed with Bitcoin's massive changes.

Oh they have made a mistake I am sure. Now, as the prices are getting out of that circle of downfall, what they are doing. yes, the people who sell their coins when the price goes down is the biggest mistake, because you will not benefit from the market being crash. you better hold your coins at least until the market stabilizes again.

Coming up to my fifth anniversary soon. When I piled in my plan was always to do nothing until 2020, though I've spend more than was advisable perhaps. That plan is still in place. That will be the year when the stars align.

What you say I think few people can do. Because their psychological simplicity will sell as soon as the exchange rate increases, few people can hold more than one year when investing in any crypto. So usually if people hold more than 3 years, then the high possibility is that they forget that they used to buy BTC :)))

Well, i don't know about the others but i am holding my bitcoins for more than 3 years and i am not bothering about the present situation of the market, people should understand there is always room for growth in terms of price gist be patient.

A certain belief in your investment or the one you invested in make yourself think and action to hodl more what are you holding right now. Bitcoins and other top altcoins is very much worth it to leave in time. The present there are many people who are selling their bitcoin rather than to hold it because they are not knowledgeable in bitcoin but soon enough they will tend to hold after they realize its consequences.

Three years ago it was maybe easier for people to hold their bitcoins! Because they could by some and forget it. Now you see everyday fud news from mainstream media. Everybody knows about bitcoin. And if you buyed some one and tell your friends, everyday when you will see them they will aks you about it. So these factors makes it lot harder to hold bitcoin from nowadays for the future. I have an uncle if not mistaken he has 40 BTC, he bought in 2011 .. he sold some for the necessities of life and by 2017 he sold 10 BTC to buy homes and cars .. he said if the rest of BTC he now will only be in store for the future ahead of his son

Very few. Most are here for the immediate gains. I am hoping to get as many good coins as I can right now and hold them for say 2-4 years. Right now, I'm still having some contingencies.

maybe it less than 10% because there are no research about this and we don't know how many people that still hold their bitcoin up to 3 years. but for me, I think I am holding my bitcoin from the middle of 2015 until now and I sell at least quarter from the total amount of bitcoin that I have and I think I will sell again after the price could increase more than $19k. besides we don't know how many people that still hold their bitcoin, we cannot know how much bitcoin hold by each of that people and it still big question for me.

Few that were able to endure and hold bitcoin since then till now are in huge profits and people that were panicing like what is happening now are now regretting. That's quite easy and I think I can manage that since I don't depend on my earnings here in crypto to support my everyday needs. The only thing I need to keep in mind is the reward I would reap after holding it for so long.

My friend kept the bitcoin 2 years, he eventually sold it for the cheaper price and almost nothing is earned, I think he hastened, as in half a year the price has risen two times.

If it is suppressed I think it is very small. Possible only 10% of all investors who have Bitcoin. Because they will not be able to hold Bitcoin for that long, surely within 3 years the market price goes up and down once. Only people who have full courage can do this. Holding of the bitcoin is the easiest thing to do and is in fact the most profitable thing to do as well but the only problem is not all of us are this much patient that they can wait for such a long period of time and at the end, they decide to sell all their bitcoins even if the market value is dropping down.

I disagree with this, holding bitcoin has never been easy for example when bitcoin was just beginning there was a big chance that bitcoin could disappear then after this some years later we had the incident with Mt Gox and that crashed the price and now that it seems were finally getting some good adoption we got another huge crash if you look at the charts of bitcoin you will see a bunch of crashes way bigger than the current one, so holding has always been hard.

I believe there are quite a number of investors who are doing long term investment in the crypto-currencies trading market, we have already seen quite a number of people who became millionaires after holding bitcoin for a couple of years and they belongs to the group who bought bitcoins at a very low rate few years ago.

You are talking about only three years? There are some ultra legends who have held bitcoins for more than 5 years. They had bought bitcoins at such low prices and see the prices now, they have jumped from some tens to thousands. And those legends have got extra pack of profits by showing continues determination and patience towards not selling. So yes, they exists as well and earning money.

For me, there will be plenty of people will keep their bitcoin for more than three years, If you read the articles or news about the people, that a become millionaire and billionaire with the help of bitcoin you will notice that they hold bitcoin for like 3-4 years. Yes, it seems that it is a very long period of time to keep your bitcoin, but it is worth it right. You become a millionaire by just buying your bitcoin at an affordable price and hold it for a very extended period. But if a person already has more than 3 bitcoin i think that person can hold bitcoin for more than 3 years without any difficulty in spending their money.

One thing you should know is that Bitcoin is kind of a bit manipulative and the best thing you can do is to set a target and withdraw once you might have accomplished your target or give it a little more time before withdrawing.What I mean is that there are people who usually manipulate the price of Bitcoin and they withdraw immediately before the main investors withdraw. It was a sure thing that the most people who can afford to hold for 3 years is having more than 3 bitcoins in their wallets. Too few people whi had a 3-4 bitcoins will come and hold 3 bitcoin for years. With a lot of FUDs and declines that is happening these days, I don't think that they will be able to hold it for that long period of time. Most of the investors on digital currencies are short term holders. And digital currencies has a tendency of pumping its price to unbelievable price in a short period of time so 3 years is a long time to hold it.

I won't feel anything special if Bitcoin is hitting $50K in next 3 years unless and until there is some utility value for the same. I am eagerly waiting to use Bitcoins for my offline transactions without converting it in the fiat currency. I am willing to gain that sense of uniformity on a global level in the financial sector with Bitcoin and price is a secondary factor in this whole process.

First of all to the op, were you able to hold your Bitcoin for 3 years? I don’t think anyone has been able to do that, no matter how much you think you know about Bitcoin. I have not been able to do it, all I usually do is invest money when the price falls to the lowest and wait for it to reach a target price, then I will withdraw my profit. I can’t invest and hold for years, you never know the outcome. But if you’re able to hold for as long as that, then good luck with it. Everyone can’t be doing the same thing.

There are actually people that holds Bitcoin for 3 years and I think those are the big whales. Having so much Bitcoin in their account then they can probably hold it not just 3 years but more than year because Bitcoin keeps increasing as the year is passing by. For ordinary people who only have little amount of Bitcoin will also probably will sell because they already earned enough profit.

Yeah you are right, you got to have a goal or something like a plan that you have to follow. Don't be too greedy that you want too much profit in this. If you think that you have already gain profit with your holdings then better to withdraw and plan for your next move. These people are not in urgent need of money and they are not experiencing any kind of financial problems in their lives which provides them with an opportunity of making money in huge amount. These holders are not going to sell bitcoin at the present value at any cost. They want something huge.

I can not predict this because in my opinion last year bitcoin is very unimaginable just imagine bitcoin prices in 2009 is only about $ 10 and now bitcoin prices ever print the highest price of more than $ 20k and make all do not believe with this incident bitcoin become crazy and making everyone who held him from the year 2009 became very rich.

besides that i think they invest bitcoin calm and cool. so they are not affected by price fluctuations. and certainly the funds used for investment are funds that are not used to meet the needs

There are many holders will hold their bitcoin for too long because they believe in bitcoin like their own self because of its profit if bitcoin don't have a high value and its not cost high profit do you think that people or users will invest and hold bitcoin for long? I don't think so. They believe it because of the value.

I agree that people who can afford to holdnfor that long are those that see it only as investment, meaning it's not their primary source of income. Its going to be very hard if you're mainly relying in btc profits because when the price drops, you can basically lose a whole lot more in btc value.

There are a lot of people holding Bitcoin but I can not predict how many are they. They are enjoying the fruit of their investment and has an amazing and unbelievable profit at this time. This group of people are real investors for such making their investment as a long term one and I admire them for their patience to wait until they are decided to sell at the desired amount and maturity they settled for that investment.

I do not really think that the number of bitcoin you have has any influence on how long you can hold, the only thing that you need in order to hold for a long time is to have a very strong confidence in bitcoin and in what it can become and to have great patience, I have not held my bitcoin for three years but I'm planning to hold for a lot longer because I know that the benefits I will get out of it will be immense.

I am sure that they buying bitcoin when the price is really cheap and if I am not wrong, in the 3 years ago, the price is only around $200-$900 per 1 bitcoin but unfortunately, not many people is buy bitcoin. and after the price is increase more than $2000 then some people realize that this is their chance to buy bitcoin so they buy but not too much amount. and after it reaches more than $10,000, people open their eyes that something new is happening around them and they are amazing so they buy more and more bitcoin without thinking that this will going to increase more and more or it is just for temporary before it is down too deep. but the reality is bitcoin down too deep and now it reaches in under $10,000.

Very few people will be able to do that. Some will start worrying whenever there is major corrections. For others, even small gains will be tempting and they will exit with whatever they are getting.

I dont think they can do that maybe some of them but you can hold your bitcoin for a year maybe but not 3 yrs its too risky we dont know what will really happen so when its price will go high and you can have even small profit then sell it.

Not a lot of people. Everyone wants to make millions from bitcoin but there are not a lot of them who are willing to hold their coins more than a couple of months at best and they would sell for the slightest reason.

When I entered in this field then at that time price of the bitcoin was about 300$ = 1btc  .
Now here most of the guys who will see my post will think that I hold much amount of bitcoin and lot of bitcoin at cheap price .
But in actual at that time I was facing problem of money in my life , so I was just wondering every platform to make earnings and didn't understand well about bitcoin and also didn't understand that in the future we can make lots of earnings by just hold .

Simply because they are not relying on bitcoins as theirbpromary source of income because at that time bitcoins is really not an investment and theybare just a digital money so peoplenare getting curious andnthey buy it and then they realize that you cannot buy anything with it becase there are no stores yet that are accepting it in that time. It will be nice that everyone in the market had the same strong confidence that many holders have but you need to understand that our goals are different and that is why our behaviors are different as well, as a long term holder of bitcoin for the long term even if bitcoin were to reach my target goal I probably will not sell at all I will keep some just in case it goes even higher than that, but for a short term trader obtaining 1% to 2% per trade is good enough so losing money in a crash is not really an option for them.

We should tell them not to sell bitcoin at low price because the price and the demand of bitcoin is increasing now we should hold our bitcoin for long time and with the passage of time you will see the real growth of bitcoin at the end,. Exactly, and I'm sure that last December alone, there are a lot of huge bag holders who have decided to offload some of their stash because the price is really that high and probably most of them became millionaires by selling some of their bitcoins.

But to hold in for 3 years though is mentally tough, maybe others just put enough bitcoins for long term hold in their hard wallets and put it somewhere or hide it so and will just revisited their investment when bitcoin again hits all-time-high and take some profits once again.

You are right, these people got big profits. but in my opinion, these people then believed in the bitcoin, and did not think that over time it would bring a lot of money. They advocated the idea, the money was probably not important

I agree you require lot of patience if it was me i would be happy with 1000$ profit also but it has changed a lot now unfortunately just holding the coin doesn't really generate any profit i think altcoins are the future right now they can provide higher profits than bitcoin in long run but as people say bitcoin will surely and always remain the king

That it hard to calculate cause in my opinion people are just selling their coins when the price is really high so i think only like 2 or 3 % of people which invested are still holding their coins.

Agree. There is no definite quantity how many people can hold bitcoin for more than 3 years. But I believe that it is always increasing as many are interested in bitcoin nowadays. THrough the help of those who currently hold bitcoin that advertise the goodness of bitcoin, for sure the number of holders increases to up to 50- 75% every year.

Again, it is all because of matter of choice. We all are different and like you have said we all have different opinion about bitcoins. Some people prefer to go for long term investment because they find it best in their own capacity. While for others income must be coming regularly so they chose short term investment. These both are best chances for you to make money.

Yes they are truly amazing. Better to imitate them now, who knows what will be the price of Bitcoin by the next 3 year. It is not late for me to save now and on the coming months and hodl for long term goal. Maybe not that young but never to late to have a lot of Bitcoin to pile up, for myself and for my family. Well 3 years is a quite long time and it will be tough for a simple person to hold that long without doing any transaction. Even myself cannot do that, only the people who have willing to wait and truly patient can hold that long but it will be worth. There's might be a lot of phenomenon could occur between that that time but only thing we can assure and that will be bitcoin will have enormous value.

There's nothing wrong with spending some bitcoins here and there. This creates more transactions and that means that bitcoin is alive, we are using it because of it's advantages over other forms of payment. But I hodl the majority of my bitcoins for future purposes, maybe buying an apartment and so on.

I think 1/4 of the population in the world holds bitcoin right now because as you can see bitcoin's popularity is rising than before. So it's quite good if many people will use bitcoin because it rises its value in the market because the more the bitcoin has many users the more the chance that people need bitcoins so it can rise its price.

I would say that part of the population is rich enough to sustain his needs without cashing out.

I think most of the Bitcoin holders has their own reason and the most popular reason is that the price will be expensive in the future so we must hold now. I am also aiming to have my own house so my family can have our own space, I am saving for it and I need the money the reason I hold some of my Bitcoins now, most of them I plan to invest.

It's a good challenge for both bitcoin and crypto hodlers worldwide to hold their crypto assets for such long duration of hodling. If you can just hold it for such a long time, then you can really have a big amount of money in your wallet because as time goes by, bitcoin's market price is getting higher too.

Holding a coin is not an easy task for sure. It requires a deep knowledge of the coin ad all those people who don’t have any good idea regarding the digital market, they fail to keep their coins during dip. I got the first look at Bitcoin when Bitcoin price was just $5 it was around 2011 but I missed it and without lack of understanding of it I just avoided it. It took me a year or two to get back to the system and to understand it in order to make money. For a kid, this thing is pretty Complex but it taught me how to make money, how the money works Under the Hood and how to do learn from the internet it's a life-changing event for me. At that time there are few people in the community but today there are millions of people and many people have decided to hold their coins for under 10 years.

I believe that in a living and dynamic economy like the one that today characterizes bitcoin, there should be no place for the old belief that "hodling" is the best thing we can do with our bitcoins. Perhaps those who feel unable to generate bitcoins continuously through their efforts and skills feel a special fear of spending their bitcoins, but those of us who have integrated bitcoin into our real economy should not have a problem when buying and selling bitcoins permenently, regardless of the price that it has.

Holding of the bitcoin and that too for longer period is indeed one of the most difficult job to do and that it can only be done if you are having some good patience level but the sad part is not all of us are having this much patience level to keep on holding their bitcoins for this much time. however, if you somehow managed to do so, then you will surely be able to make some huge money.
