Within the Open Source University ecosystem, our token (EDU) will be used to facilitate the connections in the educational system between Business, Learners and Academia (MOOCs and other learning opportunities).

Everyone who uses EDU Tokens will benefit from 0% platform fees, while transactions with other crypto currencies will be charged with commissions for using the platform. Part of that commission is converted to EDU tokens and burned immediately. As a result the value of the EDU token grows. The more transactions go through the system - the higher the token price. EDU tokens are limited to 48,000,000 and are sold through a crowdsale campaign. The funds that are raised will accelerate platform’s development.

Business will benefit from shaping candidates/employees expertise and from directly approaching their learning and development needs in a distributed manner. All “men in the middle” will be excluded from the picture, thus reducing business expenses, reducing lead-time, and increasing expertise accuracy.

Academia will benefit from scaling their audience (hence the economy of scale), gaining competitive advantage through modernization and automation of operations, combined with customization of the educational experience.

Your hard cap is around $130 million. How can you justify this huge cost? If we calculate with the 50% as you claimed in your post, $65 million is still more than Facebook needed to raise when they had more than 12 million user and the company already been valued for over $1 billion (2006) ... So why do you need this amount of money?

@Fonix, the hard cap is actually around $13 million at the current price of Ether. We are aiming to raise 44 000 ETH.

Yes, we do have KYC procedure, which is handled by Parity PICOPS. Only whitelisted addresses will be able to participate in the coin offering. We want to be fully compliant to KYC & AML regulations.

Hey, @envist, OS.University is a decentralized platform to provide an industry-standard way for learners to keep track of their verified credentials, as well as to find the best learning & career development opportunities by getting connected to Academia and businesses.

We are the first to practically implement the concept of a "global credentials wallet" and a "global learning ledger", working on the project since early 2015, but we are not the only ones when it comes to application of the blockchain for various educational purposes. So, indeed, there are other cryptocurrencies as the one you mentioned, but their use-cases are far more limited. From what I read (we've done our preliminary research) this other edu-coin would serve only as a tool to buy and sell crypto-course offerings from a single content vendor, and not as a mean of exchange in a global decentralized educational marketplace.

So yes, similarities stat and end with the name itself the same way similarities in ticker symbols of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, can be confusing. Once we approach the moment of listing on the first cryptocurrency exchanges in H1 2018, we will pick a unique ticker symbol to represent the ''EDU Token", but also to avoid confusion with other "EDU"-projects. We will also trademark it, the same way all open source projects protect their brand symbols.

This is something that is in our roadmap. But never the less, thanks for giving me the opportunity to underline it.

Do I understand you correctly that by asking "Has someone made through the certification process?", you refer to the whitelisting process?  If so, then yes - we have more than 200 whitelisted members already. The process is pretty straight forward and is run though the "Open Source University" site [https://os.university/whitelist/ (https://os.university/whitelist/)] by Parity PICOPS and Onfido (leading US-based verification company).

Regarding the European Comission, I signed the contract last month, and I guess under a NDA, I would be willing to provide it to you. The contract starts Jan. 2018 and is for a 5-month acceleration exchange program in London (UK), under the supervision of a leading UK consultancy. The grant is funded by Erasmus for Entrepreneurs framework of the European Comission, which is a framework though which the EC supports the development of selected European startups internationally. Yes by creating such platform everyone will get interest in doing a particular work. By seeing your Os. 1. Is there any airdrop planned?
2. How are you planning to manage volatility in the price of the coin while implementing in the universities pay? e.g. the coin cost varies depending on the market value. so for every few days the value changes, if there is a fee of X coins how this could be consistent throughout the semester/academic year

The OS.UNIVERSITY platform is neither an educational institution, nor an online educational content provider (e.g. Coursera).

We are building a global educational marketplace - first of its kind. Thanks to OS.UNIVERSITY learning offerings (coming from academic institutions, online learning platforms, and corporate/professional L&D solutions) will be able to be bought & sought, organized, and tracked.

Every learner will have a credentials wallet in which to store data about his learning accomplishments. Here are my comments:

1. No, we don't have a airdrop planned at that point. Reason? - we would definitelly be profiting from the buzz around it (if we had such an airdrop), but our investors would be loosing, because we would be down-playing their investments by giving out though an airdrop. We do have a lot of opportunities to engage the community, however, in many other ways - e.g. a referral/affiliate programs, in addition to the classic bounty for contributions to the project.

2. We would be using a proven public finance/governance mechanism, called a ''currency board'' in which you peg the value  of a certain asset to a low-volatility instrument. You can peg a currency to another, but we are not going to do this. We are going to peg the cost of the offerings and services we provide though the decentralized OS.UNIVERSITY platform. E.g. an open learning course on blockchain development costs 150 USD. If so, you set it up at 150 when you sell it though OS.UNIVERSITY - the buyer buys for the amount of tokens that at any point in time correlates with 150 USD. Therefore, neither the buyer, nor the seller, can speculate/trick each outher when exchanging value from one another.  Of course, HODL-ing is also an option, but in that case - you can HODL and use other cryptocurrency to do the transaction (we will accept ETH payment transactions on the platform as well)

There was already a BitJob project. The results are not at all impressive, the token on the exchange is worth a penny. Students are not interested in investors.

Hi, AliCris. Thanks for mentioning this ICO - their platform looks very promising thou! You are right that students are not interested in investors and I agree with you. On the other side students need verified credentials when trying to find new job as well as more access to courses and content of any kind to develop their skills.

What I've seen so far from a few minutes reading the BitJob website - it seems to be a platform easing the process of finding a job for students and helping them make a living. Project like this one will enrich a product like ours and we would be happy to collaborate with them in the following ways - connecting students or as we call them "Learners" with businesses and match their requirements and also providing them with easy access to a much bigger market place for online courses.

OS University platform is creating a decentralized system through where every learner has its own ''credentials wallet''. It is a first step to move the system forward and make it less dependent of middle-men, more open, democratic if you like. And definitively more useful to the global learner, who needs flexible, transferable, scalable learning and development approach - one that bridges higher and continuous education.

Just found out about this project, and I really like the idea! I was wondering if OS University will just be focusing on tech-related courses (like Bitdegree or LiveEDU have done) or is it going to incorporate a wider range of subjects? After a solid research that dates back to 2015, our Project Lead came to the conclusion that still there is a great gap between Education and Businesses and the need for "digital credentials wallet" has came. At that time he didn't have in mind using blockchain - this implementation comes later with the development of the idea and the vision.

Last year, we were granted by the European Commission to continue the development of the platform in 2018. OS University uses Blockchain to register achievements and make them immutable. The European Commission says that what we do has the potential to disrupt education by removing the need for a third party (institution) to manage trust in the field of education and professional development. Open source university it sounds wonderful to the ear, their domain choose is perfect. Education projects have never held up to this time. However, there is a very serious need. I still cannot figure out why the education projects cannot hold. Do you want everyone to be ignorant? I did not understand.

I agree with you that most of the projects cannot hold. I believe there are many reasons behind this but we are going to have some major platform updates. On February 28, a special Education Symposium was hosted by Mike Kane MP, Shadow Minister for Schools, for Manchester Metropolitan University at the House of Commons. The aim was to stimulate a national debate on teacher education policy with academics, legislators and stakeholders in the education sector.

Open Source University was present at the symposium, given the opportunity for the platform to provide distributed learning programs with credentials verified through the blockchain. Such programs would help teachers professional education,upskilling and reskilling, given the flexibility they will provide, and the opportunities for professional development on a global scale.

What we provide is a platform/marketplace where universities could have a closer relationship with their students as well as business. We do not provide online courses but rather a place where learners could have their diplomas, certificates and achievements verifies, certified and stored. Actually we do not have quite a lot of competitors out there cause either they provide a solution partially or they are using blockchain only for commercial purposes.

I saw a lot of interesting information in the white paper of this project. There is interesting and accessible information out there, and many images are provided for understanding. I like the approach of this team to work. move in the same direction!

I read a lot of good reviews about this project on YouTube and actually came here from a spreadsheet ranking of ICOs but I am a little bit confused about the ICO.
This ANN title reads that Presale ends 31st December and the posts above me is saying presale ended on April 30th. I think that is a contradiction that needs to be cleared. Are the crowdsale and/or presale still going on or going to happen in the future? Is the bounty campaign still running and accepting new applicants?

We provide them with customised educational opportunities, based on distributed learning pathways, curated by Academia and businesses. A skyrocketing amount of investment is pouring into the technology, and is being put to work in hiring top-notch developers for all kinds of new blockchain-based projects.

OS.University (Open Source University) is taking a slightly different approach to this, although it also aims to connect education providers and learners using Blockchain technology.

According to their white paper, OS.University is a decentralized platform that bridges the gap between businesses and education through Blockchain and smart contracts. The Blockchain will be used to validate and verify learners’ credentials, while smart contracts are intended to be used to manage content purchases, marketplace transactions, and hiring processes.

The main idea behind OS.University is to create a meeting place for the following three groups:
Businesses
Academia
Learners

Token
OS.University is issuing a new token called the EDU, a utility token built on the Ethereum ERC20 standard.

Potential token buyers should note that the EDU token is a utility token, and not a security token. This means that token holders do NOT have the right to:
Vote
Participate in any kind of revenue-sharing
Receive dividends of any kind
The incentive for holding EDU tokens is basically that they allow for commission-free transactions within the platform, whereas the use of other cryptocurrencies will be subject to commission fees. Further, the team claims that the EDU token will allow for future scaling of the platform beyond just the Ethereum Blockchain.
30% of the fees collected in the form of EDU tokens will be burned in order to maintain the value of the token.

With the company behind OS.University being based in Bulgaria, most team members are also Bulgarian nationals. In addition, a lot of the media coverage and some of the other videos that the team has put up on their website is in Bulgarian language only, although some of it does have English subtitles.

The website also features a long list of advisors and project ambassadors. This is perhaps not surprising, given the fact that the website also has two buttons anyone can click to “Join the advisory board” or “Become an Ambassador”.

In summary, the idea that OS.University has can clearly work if carried out in the right way. The main problem with this ICO is the lack of a working MVP at the time of this writing, which should make investors question how much they want to commit at this time.

I can actually see how this could be used in the modern world. The way things are changing with technology and how industries such as education, have to regularly update their systems, OSU could be the link between quality education and modern technology. Its a yes from me.

Im coming to the end of a 4 year course at university and the hassle I've had in terms of getting to my uni have been a nightmare. I'm actually more optimistic than I have been in a while. I started teaching in 2001 and for at least the first ten years, the internet didn't feature in any programs that I was involved with. Now, it is just another tool, which is how it should be.
A lot more emphasis is being put on collaborative project work and problem solving. This is what education is supposed to be: not merely reciting lists of pre-decided facts.

The main advantage of the Internet is the ability to quickly obtain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of the exact Sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) and the ability to obtain information from different sources (politics, Economics, literature, etc.). A very big advantage of recent years is interactive interaction, including with teachers from different parts of the world. Using blockchain will also transform the education industry and make it better.

This looks like an incredible project and theres nothing else out there that offers what OSU can offer!

As a young man who has just left Uni, with a debt of over 40k, I truly wish Open Source University was around when I started my education. 100% it would have helped me!

Agreed. It's not one of those over-hyped coins, like most infrastructure coins, but it seems to have gained a fair bit of attention in the last few weeks. Short ico too, which may turn out to be a good thing, but finishing in the middle of a bear market (July 1st) could hurt it at listing. If it does drop, I may pick up some more, but I have a feeling this one will be a steady climb.

This bear market has destroyed some real good icos. Invacio was the big one. I reckon the guys who bought this won't be dumping. Future looks too good.

After watching the AMA yesterday on Youtube, where they explained the concept so well. The combination of education certification via smart contracts as well as paying for online courses offered from institutions worldwide is a quantum shift, opening so much opportunity for millions.
