Should I hold Bitcoins Or should I buy Altcoins with it.
And Why ?

What's your take on it ?

Well you can buy altcoins as an investment, but be sure to read a lot and don't just buy some random altcoin that is pumping today and dumping tommorow. Altcoin exchanges are like big casinos when you are there is something simmilar to gambling (if we are talking about those reffered as shitcoins lol).

Look at this way it is easier for an lets say XMR to double in price which will result in your investments to double. If you look at bitcoin it is much harder for it to hit 20k for you to double your money on it. So by buying alts comes greater risk but also better return if all plays out well.

Or take for instance some altcoin that cost 0.1$ its easier for it to go till like 0.5 or even 1$ for you to earn good amounts of money but also higher chance for it to go lower and you can lose money. But again reaserch is necessary as many people tend to advertise their coin that they bought - many coins don't even have something extrodinary implemented in them.

Don't just look at the price per coin but look as how many coins are in existence and look at market cap.

If you are not familliar with altcoins I'd suggest you to simply first read a bit about them before investing because you don't want to throw your money in and hope for good return.

Holding is an investment. Do your own research and make your own decisions. If you cant do these basic tasks then investing is not for you.

I'll leave you a bit of information though. Personally I like leaving majority of my investment money on bitcoin because it's a safer investment. Not saying that altcoins are a bad investment though, it completely depends on which coins specifically you invest in. There are good and bad ones. Also, take note that altcoins are like high risk:high reward, in my opinion.

Hold bitcoin as your long investment, and buy the altcoin for your short investment, it's easy to use when you hold bitcoin even you're not always on your PC
Bitcoin is the easy one when you wanna start invest on it.

Do both is good. You will learn much by do that both option and also there is any benefit from it. Your value in USD will look stable.

Hold bitcoins is not a bad choice. But you can do both 50% bitcoins and 50% altcoins :)

That is big dilemma!! You see, if you don't know very well some altcoin then you should definitely buy bitcoins, but if you are following some altcoin and you know his community then buy that altcoin if you think that it will increase soon.

You have to hold BTC because of its volatility and also buy altcoins with high potential.

Better to hold Bitcoin itself Because now the price is skyrocketing in the market, and If you want to invest on altcoin, you should examine in detail which Altcoin will be invested in.

If u are inexperienced in crypto field,  then I suggest u to buy bitcoin and hold for long term.  Invest a small part about 5% of your bitcoin in other altcoins and learn trading.  As in trading u can make losses as well as profits so it is not good idea to go all in. 

I would suggest diversifying your portfolio. Never put all the eggs in one basket.

That depends cause if you want to risk or you are just confident in some alts you could invest in them but if you want to earn only without any ideas which one to buy, just hodl bitcoin.

hold bitcoin is an investment cause on last 1 year it got +100% every 3-4 months. The good thing is probably hold a part of bitcoin and reinvest the rest on some crypto with very good potential but noone know is the best one.

do both....take at lest 1 or 2 btc and lock them away :) this will be you retirement :D

For me trading them in some alts would be good idea cause he could earn some more. Of course you make good point to just make it with a little part of bitcoin which he has to have some protection if he lost some.

I like to diversify. I think it’s good to hold Bitcoins and maybe most of your money should be in Bitcoins, but I like to keep about 5 other coins. I prefer altcoins in or near the top ten in market cap because most of these will last for a long time.

This is my philosophy because it’s possible that ETH or other altcoins will out perform Bitcoin. There could even be one that breaks out for a huge profit. You should do your own research to decide which color be you like best.

I believe the best course of action is to diversify and to not put all your eggs in one basket, the best thing to do is to use 10% of your capital in other altcoins, and try different things, of course I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that you need study and know the market before doing any investment

You can buy altcoins but always do your own research  before you to go invest in altcoins theres alot of shitcoins out there you do also hodl 50% bitcoin 50% ethereum

You can hold bitcoin while buying altcoin, make sure that before you buy some altcoin you know about the coin you want to buy. Research about the coin and choose the coin you think have a potential in the future.

Holding BTC is always a good idea, but no one truly knows how it will perform over the next week, month, or year/s.
I entered the game only a few months ago and started trading alts, but if I had of just held my original investment in Bitcoin, my portfolio would be worth three times as much as it currently is.
Whichever way you decide to go, just make informed decisions, ask questions where necessary (like you are here!), and don't FOMO!

In my opinion it is recommended to buy bitcoin and keep the altcoins :( :( :( :(

Bitcoin is now super powerful and altcoins are theoretically cheaper as a result of this, I suggest you use 50% to buy bitcoins and the other half goes to buying altcoins.

Use a portion to purchase altcoins and then hold the remaining. It is still wise to hold some Bitcoins due to the continues increase in price. Be vigilant in choosing your altcoins because alot are just fail ends...

I would hold BTC and do short period alt buys then they testing new bottom. And sell them after 10-20% profit immediately. Now they are falling both up and down BTC movements. When it stable for few days trying to recover their losses. Compare charts on tradingview, u will see what alts how they conduct themselfs.

I would suggest you to hold it for the time being at least. Altcoins are not a bad choice but not stable like Bitcoin.

Choose both the option. Since the price is increasing in high manner, you can hold the bitcoin to get very huge profit from the bitcoin. Altcoin is best to hold your savings for future,but you have to choose the best among them to get rich from altcoin. Holding bitcoin also make you succeed.

I think it would be better if you use bitcoin to exchange with other altcoin and profit from it. This is how professional traders are used. I also use this way to generate daily income with the crypto market.

It depends on your strength. If you are good at the trading skill, behavior psychology, you should sell BTC to buy altcoin. If not, just holding Bitcoin until it rises to $15000 in 2018

Imo hold bitcoin but when bitcoin's price keeps rising while altcoins' price is dropping, start buying alts.

Bitcoin is doing overwell  i would say.But with every big price jump correction will come as well.On that moment you can make some profit with alts on the price bounce,then again hold in btc untill next price jump.Unfortunatelly im quite sure,that btc will bubble trouble at the begining of 2018.Price grown to much since may 2017:/Need to catch the right moment,and transfer into usdt:)

Its better to buy more altcoins similar to iota. Or just buy iota. Bitcoin is too expensive and it will take years to make good amount of money, while altcoins are cheap for future.

I prefer to hold bitcoin than buy any altcoin. Altcoins are only profitable when bitcoin is moving in a sideway. Bitcoin is moving upwards every day and I see that most altcoins have gone down in bitcoin terms.

I think you should divide your holdings to all the big ones and also Bitcoin, possibly in a 50/50 ratio. The big ones aren't so volatile

You can invest both buy bitcoin and altcoins but better check first what really an altcoins that is profitable. We can earn big in bitcoin so many believe that price will become huge soonest.

There is no certain positioning in this kind of actions. With some portion of your bitcoins, you can buy altcoins that you found attractive. And with some portion, you can store them in your wallet without using.

Altcoin prices are down, i think it's a good time to buy altcoin, especially ethereum. Ethereum have a good potential in 2018, i believe the price of ethereun in 2018 will be high, maybe in mid year the price ethereum will reach arround $1500. For now i have some bitcoin in my wallet, i want to hold for 50% and investment in altcoin 50%.

Depending on the altcoin what you buy. but I think it will benefit more if hold bitcoin because surely bitcoin will always go up the price

To the poster who said that its easier for a 10 cent coin to go to 20 cent and double compared to bitcoin, i agree with that.  However, is the chance of that 10 cent go going down really higher than bitcoin going down?  Because even if it goes down, how far down can it go when its 10 cents?  If btc is 5 figures, it can go down a lot etc.

Holding is a good option.. There are loads of altcoins out there now. Most of them are worth nothing. I don't think investing in Altcoins without proper research about the project is a good idea.. Meanwhile there is a chance of btc making another big climb. So hold.

In my observe. the market are recovering now. Most top altcoin are going up. So, I think you should buy some good coins now such as Dash, Monero, IOTA, and Neo

For me this is literary made by many people who trade and save bitcoin, because they thinking that when price of bitcoin increasing they were having alternative crypto currency that they used to invest in other business. Since they want to have an income they make investment using altcoin instead of bitcoin. While their bitcoin are still holding for long period of time and waiting for the maturity of the bitcoin until they reach the perfect timing to sell it.

Please be advised that the best way to go in crypto investment is to create a diversified portfolio. Of course the foundation is basically to buy Bitcoins. Just to make sure that if ever one or two of your other coins will end up acquiring zero increase in value, at least Bitcoin will always increase. Or if your other coins are decreasing in value instead of increasing, at least some other coins are also multiplying its value. It is always good to diversify cryptocurrencies.   

I don't think it's a good idea to sell all of your bitcoins because we all know bitcoin will be much better in the long term. It may crash or fall soon but it will rise again eventually. So holding at least some of your bitcoin would be better. Buying alt coins and profiting from them requires knowled and experience. You can make very good profit from doing so but you need to buy right coin at the right time. If you think you know ther market well enough go on an buy some high potential coins.

I think the ideal portfolio is around 70:30 for Bitcoin and alts.

I hold around 1K dollars of bitcoin and few hundreds in alts, like stratis and ltc. Of course i change it a little bit if i see promising coin.

If I get Good price i will sell it .If I will not find Good price i will hold it.

If I have some few Bitcoins to own, I wouldn't hold all of them. I just never put all eggs in one basket. I would invest some of my Bitcoins in other altcoins and promising ICOs. Even though that somebody predicted that Bitcoin's price will be $100,000 in 2019, I would not hold all BTCs. You know why? Bitcoin's price could fluctuate in just a matter of minutes or hours.

If you are long term holder and prefer long term trading, hold it is good choice then.
But if in my opinion, because sometime i like also short trading, i will convert into altcoin 40 or 50% of my bitcoin.

I agree. Even though bitcoin is crypto, when we are talking about investment the same rules of CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model) apply. The idea is to diversify in order to remove specific (unsystematic) risk. Then your portfolio is only subject to systematic risk. Holding only bitcoin is amazing when it is growing so fast, but it will be as miserable if it starts falling.

Split your bitcoin or make 70/30 in favor of holding bitcoins, by that way you take the risk of buying a possible alt coins while maintaining your bitcoins. Don't put all your money for alt coins because when some bad luck comes you'll definitely regret the decision you've made and you'll start from scratch with nothing left of your wallet, holding some bitcoins will provide you a good foundation for the future. And when the alt coin you buy rise and become a successful coin in the next years the money that you put there can double or triple.

Alts I would take now only for short-term and only for a bounce from ATL, they are falling in BTC price after every BTC movement in any direction. I lost a lot of BTC on hodling alts. Now their are cheaper even more when I sold them.

Both are good, but if you want a bigger income go for alts. Alts can be a hedging instrument against bitcoin, if its growth is bigger than bitcoin during a span of time and when you trade it for bitcoins it can give you more bitcoins and bitcoins itself has a gaining potential, it's like earning in 2 process while the bitcoin alone does give you a gain through its appreciation of value.

I think BTC is the most stable currency with the ETH, if you need to invest money.
Alcoins aren't stable, especially if they are feeling, you can't predict their stock exchange.

can you elaborate more on what your trying to say? faster in the means of what? well if its in terms of price then bitcoin is much faster rather than altcoins but if it is in transactions then some alts can be more faster when compared to bitcoins.

holy moly dude, bitcoin is not  the most stable currency because it is a highly volatile coin therefore its value can easily fluctuate oftenly  from time to time but altcoin are the real ones who is much stable and alts can be easily predicted but not the bitcoin.

You necessarily do not need to buy altcoin for short investment. The truth is that year in and year out, some coins will always keep doing well and then we will end up seeing them be usable since they have a product.

All the above, this does not mean that some of them will end up in the drain as not all companies are meant to survive anyway, but I have been holding some coins for a while now and they are doing great, at least better than when I bought them, until I decide to sell.

Goes without saying but it really depends on the situation. If bitcoin is getting absolutely pumped right now and altcoins are plumetting as a result then that means you should probably move some of your bitcoin to altcoin.

Vice versa, if altcoins are getting pumped big time and bitcoin is going down, then it is probably a good idea to accumulate some bitcoin as well just in case altcoins does crash in the event of bitcoin going up.

There is no one static answer, it is constantly changing. Right now i would recommend getting BTC instead of alts.

Much better to do both of it, holding bitcoin and buying altcoins are both profitable. But first you have to do more research before buying altcoins, becuase it is too risky it can make your money increase or worst decrease. It is the same also when you hold your bitcoin, because bitcoin is not stable it might decrease or increase also.

What ever option is good for me. Investing to bitcoin is a good investment. If you hold bitcoin for long term investment then I can say that you earn money.   The more bitcoin you hold of course the more profit will pay back to you. On the other hand, if you sell it and invest it to the top altcoins today it is a risky thing but it gives you also good income. Decision and planning is the best thing to consider. Stand and work to every decision that you choose. There is no wrong decision if you give your heart and time to make it worth it.

The decision really depends on what you want when holding cryptocurrencies, there are some who would just hold bitcoins and dispose their altcoins and turn them to bitcoins and there are some as well who just wants to hold on to altcoins, but most of all or mostly traders hold on to both bitcoins and altcoins because they can't decide which they would want to hold and so they could diversify their money as well.

BTC will rule as the predominant cryptocurrency for some year and that means it will always have a value, maybe not as high as today, maybe 10x more. How knows?

But there are many solid altcoin projects that will thrive in the years to come, and I believe they will be more profitable than BTC because some of them already are.

Take a look at the PoS v3 coins, like DMD, with masternodes, solid dev team, clear vision for the future. It is a safe bet.

This happens to be my dilemma recently as well. Bitcoin has been looking very promising with a lot of financial money pouring in, potential rise to $20K IMO, but every altcoin are also rising (just like in 2013, I'm afraid 2018 will be 2014 v2).  I'm afraid that if I kept it all in Bitcoin, I'd miss all those moon train. But if I'm in altcoin, I'm afraid that Bitcoin will rise and my altcoin position made me lose some BTC. Well in times like this it's so easy to earn profit in USD, just hold any random coin, boom, sell. But profit in BTC? Might be harder. I personally only trade about 25% and keep the rest in BTC.

It totally depends on you. Bitcoin is good and some Altcoins are good. You can just diversify your portfolio to spread the risk and distribute the largest share for bitcoin anyway. With the rest, you can do some research of some coins that are presently undervalued with some solid project and product backing and hold on to them as well. Some coins have you can see are doing well and some will still do well depending on how relevant they become in the community.

holding or investing would be a great i dea because both in the long run are very profitable,you can hold bitcoin as long as you want to and you can have altcoins for not that long or same as bitcoin. there is nothing wrong having both as long as you have money to invest..

Whatever decision you make are both good. Holding bitcoin is also a good thing to do since the value of bitcoin now a days is fluctuating to high. If you hold bitcoin for a long term investment then I can say that your patience gives you more profit at the end. On the other hand, if you sell bitcoins and you decided to buy altcoins then make sure that you study first the reputation of the altcoins that you buy so that your investment will grow until the end.

Holding bitcoin or buying altcoins are both profitable, whatever decision made by the owner they were possible to success in the future. But they were need to be patience holding bitcoin because it takes time before gaining profit, while buying altcoins were need deep analysis before continue because some altcoins are not profitable due to low numbers of investors.

In my opinion it's better if you having both because if there were a case that bitcoin value fall down you have a chance to buy and hold the altcoins for long period of time.

Dont go all in on bitcoin or in altcoin. You need to diversify your portfolio, It's best to have half in Bitcoin and half in Altcoin, it's a lot safer and less risky. If bitcoin rise, usually altcoin goes down and if bitcoin is stable your altcoin will go up. In my opinion it's the best strategy if you want to be safe

Personnaly, i sold bitcoin yesterday.
I read that à Big correction IS very possible.

My idéa IS to buy btc when it will drop to 12k, 11k. Altcoins will drop again.
And wait that btc Pulp to 16k to buy altcoins

Congrats dude. Care to share your source about the big correction coming in bitcoin market? Anyways, looks like you have made huge profit so it doesn't really matter if there's news of a big correction or not. Although it looks like bitcoin hasn't have enough to really push for the next mental barrier of $20K.

As I would have it, Altcoins is better than bitcoin today. Look at all the positives they have getting. Lots of companies suddenly arouse their fascination with altcoins technology that they are now looking at it as alternatives to make solutions to their ever growing problems. Smart Contracts, Dapps are now the new buzzword in the IT world.

Certainly, it would be appropriate if we can get both bitcoins and altcoins. Bitcoin as a long term investments. While altcoins as your contingency if ever bitcoins will crash. At least diversify and always have plan b for better coverage and assurance.

Sell all Bitcoin immediately. Its december, people had more money to burn and thats why Bitcoin is so high right now.

While if you pick the right Altcoin as LIFE, Verge, Bytom... you could get *20, *50 or *100 easily... just ask yourself (after doing research) if you truly can say its a great project and you believe in it.. Then you also dont have to ask if you should keep Bitcoin.

And yeah I do keep some bitcoin too, but trying to convince myself too to buy more Altcoins because really I know its the better choice. Unless you truly believe that Bitoin can go to 1 Million $ in 2018....... which would be like *65.... I think with many altcoins you can actually have this, if something as LIFE blows up it could be *500...

No one is better than the other, both are profitable why? bitcoin's price has proven its worth and gain over the past years while altcoins have much more pump but there is no guarantee with it as there are alts that dumped.

You really need to spend a lot of time in researching on what altcoin are good for investment.
And if you think no one suit your standards,
The I will suggest that you better hold bitcoin than invest in altcoin.

Definitely correct. If you can still hold bitcoin, and buy altcoin in the same time. I think its much better. Because holding bitcoin nowadays are a good idea because of its promising price in the market. Aside from that the amount you can earn from it can be a great help also. But investing in altcoin is also a good option to have more income. So if you could handle both why not to try.

I bought altcoins with it , because i think there is more room for growth . If it is the right choice i have no idea , it will depend on the project you invested in also. We will see in a couple of years.

Half of my bitcoin, will go on buying some altcoins, because there are some altcoins with good projects this year, so If it has a potential to moon by next year, it would really give me huge profit, and if the altcoins I bought goes on moon I would immediately sell it in exchange of bitcoin, then I will hold the bitcoins that I earned.

In short, read about the tokens that you will want to invest to. Do not just go with what is in trend and is popular now because many coins are being introduced that are not valuable and is not worth to invest for. Its totally depends on you, but my advise is to go altcoin and you must have some bitcoins, hold bitcoin for longterm purpose, and altcoin for short term, both will reward you better return.

Dont focus on just one cryptocurrency. Dont spend all your btc for altcoins, btc is for long term holding investment it can make you very rich in the next 2 years. It is a good idea if you have to invest in some alternate coins too because we can't deny that there are alternate coins that are having their own price hike now. Just take a look at these altcoins now: ethereum, bitcoin cash, ripple, litecoin, cardano, dash, nem, monero, qtum, neo, ethereum classic, lisk and many more.

You should hold 50% bitcoin, 50% 3-5 altcoins. Atlcoins have big profit if you hold long enough and bitcoin make you have stable balances.

It depends on many things. Do you wanna earn money in long or short time? Bitcoin and ETH for long term. Other unfamous coins for short time trading, Playkey, NEU, and H20 are examples.

I always hold some Bitcoin even if it's small amount but I hold it for very long term.
I use most of my money by buying altcoins. When I make a profit I sell that altcoin and look for another one. If you make this rotation you can make money. If you buy a coin and wait all the time you can't take profit.

My current strategy is that I held some bitcoin and ethereum for a long term investment. However, it seems like it was a bad decision that I sold all of my ETN and just less than a month it pumped/pumping that's why moving forward I'll make sure that I will think twice before selling. I have invested in INS (half of my ETH)  and I can see that it has a bright future great project that even a person that doesn't have a lot of knowledge in crypto can adopt.

I suggest you do both. As what they say don't put all of your eggs in one basket. You can keep them who knows what will be the value of the coins you have after 2 - 3 months and buy also altcoins of the ICO's that has a good potential.

I habe two strategies: A longterm portfolio, funded woth 2/3 altcoins and 1/3 altcoins. The second strategy is trading with a fund as daytrader for growing Bitcoin funds. I try to make little profits every day, based on BTC as basic currency. So I invest on dunped currencies an sell them at their highs.
For daytrading very small funds should be enough, because I have a nice calculation.

Holding BTC is an investment strategy based purely on the believe the market value will keep on rising and a BTC/fiat pairing will keep on growing. Who knows? It might be a good strategy, but it's not enough for me.

Holding a PoW coin has a significant downsize; the number of coins will remain static over time!

On the other hand, holding a PoS coin might be a better strategy in the sense that over time the number of coins will grow in your wallet due to the minting mechanism. Combining this with the probability of value increase and you have a double wining solution.

On top of this, you might consider the possibility of holding a PoS v3 coin and setting up a masternode. Then, things would get really interesting...
