Which hardware wallet to choose? What wallet have you got? Which one is secure? What altcoins can be allocated there?

Both wallets are very secure and the list of supported coins is on their sites. I own both but I prefer Trezor because it's look more 'professional' and feel it better in my hand.
One advice - always buy only from official retails and never second hand.

The progress Ledger has made in the past year is truly impressive. Also Trezor is a good product and it's the more mature and respected company.

In my opinion the Ledger Nano S wins due to the lower price.

I agree with the previous posts about the price of Ledger Nano S. Plus it looks much better in opposite of Trezor.

ledger nano s supports all the erc20 tokens which trezor dont, but these two are secured wallets.

Where did you get the information about ERC20 tokens and trezor? FYI any ERC20 tokens could be stored at the single ethereum address and you can manage them via myetherwallet whatever cold wallet you have.

I prefer Ledger cause it supports all tokens (ERC20) and both are secure but i like my ledger nano its simple to use.
I hope soon they support waves and more coins what  we all need.

Unfortunately, we haven't got any official store in Ukraine.
But there are some stores that sell new ones.

Wait a minute, mr. Jr. Member. Did you read my previous post? I said that Trezor supports any kind of ERC20 tokens via MEW. It's an obvious fact that Ledger Nano S supports them too. What is the accusation?

I haven't used any of the hardware wallet but I think trezor is safer as they are in business for quite long time and used by many compared to other hardware wallets.

But most of them just share same hardware structure so all of them can be considered as safest option. Ledger provides quite cheaper solutions if you are tight in budget.

Trezor Model T is new and will be available only in few months.  It is more expensive and slowly will add more alts.  It for sure is better option if you are not in a hurry and you want to store only top coins at start.

this not true though. i have a trezor and its ethereum wallet attaches to myetherwallet, which most definitely supports all erc20 tokens.

Ledger and trezor are both good. I think trezor is more secure but ledger supports more coins overall.

your choice depends on which coins you want to store. there's some overlap between them but also quite a few that aren't shared. i have both. i don't really have strong feelings about either one myself.

Yeah, it would not be the cheapest, but i think it would be supported for a lot of year and it will have last improve of security

Trezor - were the first among developers and there were no cases of hacking. Therefore, there is more trust in this device. I did not see any negative reviews about him.

between the two, i would probably choose the Nano, why? its because its more secured above all the wallets, it is a hardware type wherein you can transact your transaction by using it, without it, your wallet cannot be hack.

Note that the cost of a Ledger device is around $60, while the cost of a Trezor device is closer to $100. Trezor has slightly better wallet software, even allowing transaction information to be synced with a DropBox account. There are options to create an endless amount of hidden accounts by password protecting a user’s seed. Trezor also has a password directory that is easily accessible. Both devices cover a lot of cryptocurrencies with more being added all the time. The Ledger provides great support for Ethereum and some ERC-20 tokens, where as the Trezor supports all ERC-20 tokens.

Both has actually same functions it will only matter on how the person take care of this offline wallets but compare to online wallets this two is so much secure what people must only do is keep them in a place that is difficult to get because it can be stolen anytime and can easily take away from you without your knowledge unless you were able to check them from time to time

Had my Trezors since early 2015 and they have been sitting on my desk behind my monitor for the past 2 years collecting dust.   Needless to say, I got out of the crypto scene and just focused on work until this year.   Never even took them out of the little boxes until I saw in Dec 17 that the price of btc hit 19k !

After cleaning the dust off the boxes, you know I was kind of nervous because I haven't even plugged them in almost 2 years.  Wondered if the little display would work and so forth.  I have my seeds so was no big deal.   Well, plugged the first one in and voila worked like a champ but needed updates badly... was on like ver 1.2 or earlier.   Unplugged and held both buttons down and plugged back in.  Updated flawlessly.  Same with the 2nd one.

There was all my BTC and what the heck there's BCH/BitcoinGold ready to be split in their nice little tool.   Split both coins and sent them to exchanges to be exchanged. LOL OMG that was over 2 years salary just from the split coins.  Since then, they still work just like the day I loaded them up but with more coin options.

I will go for Trezor anytime any day because Trezor is ease of use and it super high levels security. However, it support crypto currency and token either. Here are the updated coin/token which Trezor wallet supported BTC, LTC, NMC, DOGE, DASH, BCH, ZEC, ETH, ETC, ERC20, BTG, NEM and UBIQ.

Ledger is much more better, you can store in there a lot of altcoins that are a little bit undervalued at the moment (aprox 30 altcoins) and Trezor is only offering 15, if am not wrong. Ledger is much more cheaper than the trezor one.

But trezor has a better security rather than ledger but that depends on the user itself, if the user interested to store various altcoin and then ledger should be the best choice and if he or she was focussing on the sercurity and trezor looks very good to be bought.

To be honest, I just put a .TXT document on a stick and that's it. Hide that somewhere, put a password to the .TXT document and wait. I doubt people will be able to hack me this way and it's similar to a Ledger or Trezor.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the bitlox. Though I the OP is about Trezor or Ledger. I have a ledger, after a bunch of research that was the one I went with over the Trezor. I think the ledger is better, but they're all excellent choices. I think the only thing going for Trezor that ledger doesnt is that its been around longer, but honestly it doesnt mean much as long as they are both secure.

I like the bitlox because you dont have to interact with chrome or anything. I like the shape. I love the features. its quite a bit more expensive. The fact that its a true stand alone hardware wallet is what makes it the best. the security is top top notch! do a search, learn a bit, there are quite a few hardware wallets besides the Trez and the Ledg. The Bitlox is for the serious of serious when it comes to security!

While I have no experience with the keepkey I like that one quite a bit as well. I think it would have been option #2 over the Trezor. though to be truly honest I didn't research it as much as trez and ledg though but what I did made me like the it more than the trez. and it think it looks the best of the 3.

good luck! going hardware is the only way to go if your planning on anything long term in the crypto world.

Are you sure about that buddy? I guess you don't use or check the update TREZOR version 1.4.0. By the way you can googling that or check the current coin supported by trezor (https://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-faq/overview.html#which-coins-are-currently-supported)

Definitely a Trezor!  :o
Ledger had problems with the site and purse, and Trezor did not have them!

And I also do not understand about tokens .... after all, both purses work as intermediaries and provide the address to the MEW, and the address already has tokens.

Does anyone know how to send a Trezor Litecoin, with a local purse LTC?

My favourite coins are on ledger too, bitcoin and like DGB digibyte, PIVX, Ethereum, NEO, and much more++  And for Monero will come at the start of next year, dunno exact time... You just need update ledger walet, nothing more, one buy, and other coins will be supported soon too...

Dee
Great! Hope each years will be so profitable for Bitcoin (and others) as this one.

What kind of dust do you mean? Do you mean that old model needs to be renewed to the newest version?

Which hardware wallet to choose? What wallet have you got? Which one is secure? What altcoins can be allocated there?
those two are just the same when it comes to security, i am using ledger nano and i can say how secured it is, unlike online wallets i prefer using it than the other.

of course you can buy as long as it is not fake, those people are just reselling Trezor/ledger from suppliers to earn money, its up to you if where do you want to buy your hardware wallet.

if for security then I choose trezor because trezor has advantages in the security of a very strong system and until now it does not exist yet news about loss of assets owned if stored in trezor so strongly recommend this trezor for use in storing our assets

I heard that trezor can keep more currencies than ledger - I mean that you can store more different coins at one time on trezor than on ledger nano - is that true? Maybe someone know something about it. Cause I'm also thinking about buying hardware wallet and by design I prefer ledger nano more, but if trezor can store more coins at one time - it is a big point to buy them.

If you just need wallet to saving few coins only, you can pick Trezor, but if you want invest in many coins Ledger are the answer, it has been supported many coins. Both are also secured, there are nothing to worried about the security of these hardware.

I do but my side would be biased because I have a Trezor and no Nano. Anybody have both and care to review them one against the other? Being as objective as possible I don't think it matters which you have it all boils down to personal preference of colors and the shape of your wallet. A friend of mine bought Ledger. He told me that it is perfect for Eth, but not easy to use with altcoins. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it yet, so I can't say nothing more in details.
Also he has made a decision to buy Trezor. Probably, he would have both of them soon and could compare.

My favorite wallet is the Trezor, because I like the design of it. But the Ledger is also cool because you can use it with some exchanges like etherdelta to secure your altcoins and it supports more coins than Trezor.

Title: Re: Trezor or Ledger?
Post by: BTCMILLIONAIRE on January 19, 2018, 06:03:42 PM
Trezor had one security flaw (due to its chipset) which I don't think has been fixed. Basically, it's fairly simple to gain access to the Trezor PIN, seed, and private keys if the Trezor is physically stolen. As long as you can keep the Trezor itself safe that won't be a concern though.

Not sure if the Ledger had a similar issue or not.

But you can always just buy both to support the industry and to spread out your coins to hedge your risks.

In fact, you can buy both purses. Since scammers and hackers develop every day. Probably find what kind of vulnerability it is. Or I do not know - an error. Therefore, it is better to share even between such purses. But this is my opinion. And it also depends on the finances and the amount you want to keep.

Just a friendly reminder, if you are buying the Ledger Nano S or Trezor. Please make sure you buy it from the manufacturer. Try not to buy it second hand (bad bad idea) or from resellers, as there has been cases of hacks or seed keys that were stolen.
Be safe out there, and always adhere to the Number # 1 rule in crypto: your coins, your keys.

of course. take the seed you generated on your trezor or ledger and you can enter it in the replacement to get your coins back. with the seed you're not restricted to just those devices, you can restore your coins in any wallet with a similar seed system which is most of the main ones.

your seed is everything so keep it very safe.

the same seed will also restore any altcoins you have on there too.

Once, i tried to export it to Coinomi, but i didn't wanted to do it because i thought that i could be exposing my security in there, and it is little bit risky after all.

Anyway, if you have some time, kindly check this so maybe you can clear my doubts a little, haha.

all of them. that's the point. they wouldn't add a coin unless you can restore from the same seed. that could easily mean you'd lose that coin.

the only tricky one i experienced is ethereum which doesn't quite work in the same way as other ones. i can't remember the details now but you have to take an extra step to restore them that you shouldn't have to with others.

Trezor is more better quality than ledger. Because it's the original and most secure hardware wallet that you may use and this device will also allow you to store all your ERC20 tokens together with almost two dozen coins including BTC, BCH, LTC, DASH, and ZEC, and it’s highly regarded by hodlers.

Both are just as good in terms of their tech and also hardware design.

Trezor has a nice simple design with a bigger footprint while ledger has a flip out to protect the usb insert.

I am using Ledger nano S as the price point is lower when I bought it and it has been very reliable so far.

For your crypto investments, i recommend getting of these to protect yourself.

And if you are transferring regularly for ICO and trading, I would recommend buying 2 Nano S or ledger.

One for safe keeping of your investments and one for trading as you will be doing transfer often.

This will prevent any mishap of your investments, while u use a seperate wallet for daily transfer and trading.

just my way of protecting myself..

Which hardware wallet to choose? What wallet have you got? Which one is secure? What altcoins can be allocated there?
I prefer ledger because i like the shape of ledger more and it's cheaper compared to trezor. You can store bitcoin, ethereum, ripple, monero, neo and a few other alts, you can check the full list on the website. For the security i think it is secured.

Trezor's been the dominant crypto hardware wallet for a long time, basically had no competition. Now it looks like it has real competition in the ledger nano s. I haven't used either of them, but the ledger does look better, and it's cheaper

You can build your own paper wallet or put a wallet on a pendrive.

I'm ledger NanoS user and very happy about it. I still haven't use their own app, much prefer Electrum and MEW setup for Ledger. I'm not telling that app is bad, I just got used to using MEW for eth and Electrum for bitcoin. Rest of the coins I kept on exchanges because I want to trade them if the price is right. NanoS have very sleek design and easy to use. Set it up in 5 min, and it allows to use my favorite wallets. I just regret I didn't buy a spare one when the price was just 58 euros. Never used Trezor, but it looks less appealing to me.

Yes, trezor is a good,  secure hardware wallet and the owner or user have total control of it.  Mind you,  no one or something is ever safe because you still need to avoid human error when using it.

that's the price you pay for security. there's not a lot of space on that chip. from what i've read so far the ledger blue has not been a smooth launch. the nano s actually has more functionality the last time i checked. they haven't released the nano's latest firmware for the blue.

i'm waiting to see what the trezor 2 looks like before thinking of upgrading.

Both ledger and trezor are safe as long as you buy it directly to its manufacturer not on a third party seller or reseller because there are some reported issue that had been hacked after buying hardware wallet on reseller. Ledger supported some cryptocurrency that trezor did not support and vise versa so before buying one better to check first what cryptocurrency they support and if they support the coin that you want to hold, you can see that on their website.

The cold ledger wallet support for some altcoin also creates a very good premise in helping people develop the best way of keeping property by altcoin, avoiding the hacker, creating psychological comfort.
Now some good ICOs like Wanchain are on the heels of being supported as well by some ICOs.
By the time the market goes down this market buying yourself a ledger wallet and sending altcoin into it is one of the best methods.
Altcoin LEDGER support also demonstrates the prestige of altcoin effort!

They are both the same in terms of security and ease-of-use. The price is different, though.

There may be one additional minor difference: I had problems of sync-ing Electrum wallet with Ledger with Segwit addresses. Trezor synced without any problems.

In this short article you can read how to protect your wallet.
For those, who can't do it, I can say on short: check the adress before sending money. Wallet can change it automatically, so you will send your tokens to sb Unknown. So try to pay attention to the adress all the time and check all characters of it.

Thanks for a head-ups!

Btw, which wallet do you use?

I have ordered Trezor, but I haven't received it yet. Later I will write its benefits.
I want to say some words about delivery: DHL take extra taxes. I have ordered 3 wallets (2 of them for friends) and received discount. After coming to Ukraine, our parcel has been banned and we need to pay extra money for customs tax. And it is higher that the discount :(
Hardware wallets like the Trezor, Keepkey, and the Ledger Nano S, offer convenient access to highly secured bitcoins kept fully offline. Although they can cost between $60 and $100, these devices allow bitcoins to be spent directly from where no hackers can get to them

The hardware that is been marketed as a result of security lapses on the part of cryptocurrency users is not absolutely a tamper proof for security of your asset. I believe devices can be bug and may also be easily vulnerable to attack. The best approach to security is consistent safe security practises.

I heard someone got a fake Ledger on Amazon.
official website place order and wait for them ship to you , but shipping fees is expensive, price maybe same as hardware wallet price , so maybe ask your friend buy together , then lower the shipping fees

TREZOR is a small, key-sized device which connects to your computer with a USB cable. It stores your Bitcoin private keys offline and signs transactions. It can be safely used on a malware infected computer.

Mate, always buy from the original vendor = manufacturer. There was recently reddit post made by a dude who bought his device on eBay and had all his founds stollen. Turns out he bought a preconfigured device.

On the other hand, original devices always come with a temper-proof seal and you can visually confirm they were not preconfigured.

A wise choice made by your to safeguard your investment with hardware Wallet..I own a ledger and having used it I would say it's very convenient to use and easy ..The only downside though is that you can only use 5 apps at a time due to limited memory .You can uninstall and install more apps when you want .Note : The coins remain safe even if you uninstall them , you just need to install the app again to access them

They both do, I mean Trezor and Ledger.

And you should buy it from the manufacturer, as I said in my earlier post. Buying from large resellers like Amazon is still fine, I think, but definitely less secure. Buying from eBay puts you at risk of jeopardizing all your funds.

Whatever you do to buy it, inspect the seal has not been broken after it is delivered.

I have no idea about cold wallets. Can you please enlighten me more about these two. I want to know more to help me make my holdings secure and intact.
Ledger and Trezor, those are not cold wallets. They are hardware wallets. The difference is that in the cold wallet you create (generate) a private key/address pair in an off-line computer. Than you can transfer the funds to the generated cold address online, because bringing the address online does not involve any risks. It is  your private key that must be kept off-line at all times. You cannot access those funds, as the private key cannot be exposed. Accessing the funds renders the wallet "hot" again and you must create a new cold wallet and move the funds again. All that is fine as long as you are determined, it involves a lot of work, and unfortunately it is prone to human errors.

Hardware wallet on the other side is always hot, you can access the funds any time, but the private keys are separated from the network on a small device (hence the name - hardware wallet). It is considered to be very secure, too, as the chip is designed to shelter your private keys from the network. It is easy to use and NOT prone to human errors.

I hope that explanation helps. If you need more details - ask.

Well, what exactly do you need to know? They both (Ledger and Trezor) have their native clients but they can also pair with a number of other wallets (MyEtherWallet for ETH and ERC20 tokens, Electrum for BTC) providing the same level of security (your keys never leave the device). If the wallet or exchange doesn't support pairing, then they can be used as a 2FA what is still much more secure than using your phone to 2FA (it is easy to hack a phone and next to impossible to hack a HW)

When lost or stolen or broken, they are PIN protected, and they can be recreated on another device (even in another brand product) from your 20-word backup phrase. Please note, that this backup MUST be protected from theft and eyes, as anybody can recreate the wallet from it on another device.

If you have specific questions, ask.

aa, one thing, the Ledger didn't want to pair with Electrum in Segwit mode. Trezor did.

I'll say this though, whatever device I didn't get I am going to get in the near future to diversify. More security the better plus less dependent on one company :)

They're good hardware wallets but I am only using Ledger Nano S because that's I ordered when I am holding more than $100,000 last first week of january this year.
I might order another Crypto hardware wallet and this time it should be Trezor just to try out what's the good thing about it than Ledger Nano S.

But I want to experience also what's the advantage of Trezor, by anyway, any hardware wallet that could offer full security will do because I don't want to lose my Crypto Assets that as high as hundred of thousand bucks.
Seems hardware wallet offer me peace of mind than accessing my MEW through digital keys. I just felt I'm not totally protected.

Trezor and Ledger Nano S are working well on Bitcoin, Ethereum, LiteCoin and NEO although they have slight differences by for me they will offer you total security for your Crypto Assets as they both works fine and will keep your wallet keys as hardware key and that's the most important.
Any hardware wallet will offer you peace of mind because you are no longer concern on exposing your wallet keys into hackers and hijackers that will ruin your Crypto Assets.
I owned Ledger Nano S and it performs well but I am going to order also Trtezor and try it because I am holding 2 MEW wallets this time.

Yes, guaranteed fully secured. The securities of our wallet can't be base of what we've using, it only depend the holders how they handled on it. Since we are in online system, still we are all vulnerable for hacks and possible of losing our keys somewhere else. With that scenarios, careful and back-up of our keys are very important, and even using other pc isn't advisable cause it only lead others to know your transactions and even your account keys.

I have ordered Trezor. I haven't recieved it yet. So I will comment its work a bit later. But I can say some words about the price: 89€ + 17€ for the delivery (to Ukraine). If you buy multipack (3 wallet together), you will get a discount - 22€. But to receive parcel which costs more than 150€ (multipack costs 245€), you have to pay extra money - 1000 UAH. So for Ukrainian I recommend to buy one wallet. You will save money and time.
Later I will write about my experience after using Trezor.

So few coins. And what about ERC20 coins on Ethereum platfotm network? I have a decent number of different coins from some ISOs
ERC20 are fine.

hello both device are good & safe. but Ledger nano S support more coins.i think many people's like&use Ledger. trezor is also good. but i like Ledger Nano S.
And how much did it cost? Friends call absolutely different prices. Are you completely satisfied with its quality? How long can they be used? I'm going to buy it and I need advice from a real user.

I have already recieved my Trezor and want to mention some points:
First of all, to install it you need to name it (if you wish), write 6-numbers password/passphrase and write down 24 seed words.
Then you will get 6 different addresses: BTC, BCH, LTC, DASH, ETC and ETH. Using ETH is possible with myEtherWallet, so ALL ERC-20 coins available on myEtherWallet are also available on your TREZOR. You can open a list of them on myEtherWallet and choose Trezor on this website. After this you write down your password and on the screen you can see, send, recieved ERC-20 coins as usual

Does not have 100% reliable wallets, you yourself have to protect yourself as much as possible. For example, working not on the Window, but on Ubuntu, it will be more reliable, even though the development of viruses is not now in place.

I think that this comparison is probably worth choosing Trezor, because I never used Ledger, unless of course I get such an opportunity. But I think that such a possibility is only of necessity

Trezor and Ledger have already proven themselves as excellent products. Both of these purses will save you your money, only Ledger Nano S will make it cheaper. Currently, it costs about $ 30 less than Trezor. After all, the whole choice comes down to what you prefer best in terms of design and reputation. Ledger is more elegant, but Trezor exists on the market for a longer time.

Tresor is safer. Ledger was susceptible to the attack "Man in the middle". Now they have corrected this threat, but still I would not trust them after that.
If you want complete security for storing crypto currency - use Tails OS.

Trezor and Ledger are both secured hardware wallet. And this two wallet are able to access in MyEtherWallet and powered by blockchain. Ethereum is the most compatible altcoin in trezor ledger but you can store here other coin because it supported and powered by altcoin.

Both of these hardware wallets are good. They are easy to use. Personally for me, Trezor is more suitable. I like that he has the password manager function.

I am not familiar with Trevor because I am only using Ledger Nanos S as my hardware wallet and I never have even a single issue with it.
There are certain upgrades on firmware and increase the supported wallets so for me Ledger Nano S is the only hardware wallet that everyone could use as it is more portable,  safe and secure and cheaper than Trezor.

shop.trezor.io
As I know, https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products is also reliable.
Don't be scared to buy there. You will recieve it in any country

I think they are both good features for holding crypto, the best is the one which has the best interface for you.
