I think that it will, it seems like it gets close here and there but more frequent. What do you think the result of a flip would be even if it lasted an hour? How would that affect the prices of BTC/ETH? What would be some outcomes of a flip?

I don't think so.
Bitcoin are valued by the community, while eth is being manipulated by some companies. So there are limits on ETH's control.
However, I still choose hold eth

Compare the demand of etheruim and bitcoin, bitcoin has a higher demand than the other crypto currency. Bitcoin can be consider as the father of new currency. Bitcoin can be consider as a currency because currently it has a value and a limit of production. On the other hand, etherium is better than the bitcoin because of its lower transaction fee compare to the bitcoin.

It could very well surpass bitcoin's marketcap, but it's not a "take over".  Nobody owns bitcoin, and bitcoin will always be bitcoin, no matter the price of anything else.

I think it is possible. Now bitcoin itself too many problems, miners hijack, network congestion, coupled with a variety of ifo blood, bitcoin is losing its dominant position.

I think it can happen. eth will take over bitcoin, if we can divert enthusiasts btc switch using eth in transact. and the demand for etherium increases so that the price of the coin can be expensive and can compete with bitcoin.

i dont think Ethereum will over take Bitcoin anytime soon. Bitcoin is the first of its kind and its crowned the King of all crypto currencies. Bitcoin is far from Ethereum. The only way Ethereum will over take Bitcoin is only if Bitcoin crashes totally. but i dont think that will happen.

I don't think that ethereum will over take bitcoin because based on my observation about the movement of the market is that when bitcoin goes down, it also goes down and if btc goes up the price of ethereum also goes up which means that the value of any alternative coins are dependent on the value of bitcoin. Before will conclude about overtaking of ethereum, we should at least consider the fact the demand of a certain coin. Bitcoin is more demand than ethereum.

I do not think so, it is not realistic for me now, but who knows, things are changing and we cannot say for sure. But there are some reasons, bitcoin is first, its price is leading and altcoins depend on it, it has more capital, more trust, popularity and investments, so these are my reasons not to believe that ETH will beat Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a dirty lawnmower with lots of rust.  Ethereum is a brand new shiny Lambo.  Only fanboy morons keep the idea that 'Bitcoin is always king because it is the central of comparison'.

According to me yes, eth or ripple will take over bitcoin in market capitalization but not in price. so its better to invest in eth and ripple when they are running low instead of buying bitcoin.

This a very common asked question by all crypto currency lovers, i think ETH will over take BTC in coming times but it will take time, so it is a time to invest in ETH. but don's forget that BTC is a mother currency of all crypto currencies so it will also grow high.

No, Ethereum can't replace Bitcoin in the near future at least. Its very good altcoin with very promising potential, but it is still far away from Bitcoin's stats and position. Bitcoin is a lot more used, trusted and still the most valuable crypto currency until now.

Excluding the possibility that after the rapid depreciation of the cryptocurrencies market at the moment, Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin and become the most popular cryptos in the market. Number of coins on the price of bitcoin has some effect on all the coins. It is not easy to say that it is easy to overtake Bitcoin. However, very good quality coins.

Same here. Ethereum is not even close to that. Only because it is at the top of alternative coins and showing some progress for few weeks ago does not mean it can de-crown bitcoin. That is never going to happen. The reason is simple, there is a huge difference between the total amounts of these to coins. Even with an equal number of supporters, Ethereum cannot make as much progress as bitcoin can. Also, people are more attracted towards bitcoin.

Well, in my opinion, there's a chance but there'll be more years to come for this thing to happen. Indeed, the market value of Bitcoin crashed but same thing happened not only with etherium but almost all cryptos. Bitcoin was developed as a store of value. It is meant first and foremost to be used as a currency, and that is what it is good at.
People know Bitcoin to be the definition of a blockchain (as correct or incorrect as that maybe), and when they go to invest in cryptocurrencies, they think about Bitcoin first.
Bitcoin has the purpose, and Bitcoin has the branding.
Ethereum was developed as a platform for “smart contracts”. The currency, Ether, exists as a way to make transactions on the Ethereum blockchain, but the blockchain’s focus is on being a place for dapps to exist.
People are less familiar with Ethereum. They only know it is Bitcoin’s younger, less valuable brother.
Ethereum doesn’t focus on value in currency, it focuses on providing a platform for others. On top of that, it is less well known by the general public. ;)

From the technological side, Ethereum is much better and more efficient than Bitcoin. Therefore, one day Ether will overtake Bitcoin by capitalization. Maybe even this year.

As of now there is no guarantee as to what ethereum may do to bitcoin, because the value of bitcoin still remains stronger than ethereum. Although, if bitcoin continuous to sunk down, then ethereum's value could probably over power it. Then again, there is no assurance as to how long it may be.

Cryptocurrencies need two characteristics to be a good store of value, decentralization and a cap on total units issued. Ethereum is not a cryptocurrency by that definition; it is a platform for smart contracts.
Bitcoin, is designed specifically as a store of value and medium of exchange.

if ethereum overtakes BTC, it will have to stay ahead for a while for lots of people to leave BTC and buy into it. that way, ethereum investors will make so much profit. But i dont see that happening as there are no current indications. it will take a lot for ethereum to usurp BTC at the top. So much.

Ethereum price increase may be $2000-$2500 in the last of this year.

I think BTC will keep the throne under those 2 conditions:

LN works as intended and really solves scaling
BTC manages to keep the throne until LN starts to be used
If one of those conditions is not met, then it is going to be hard for BTC to keep the throne or get it back. There is too much competiton and people will doubt the king once proven to be replaceable.

When your receive an LN transaction, what you're actually getting is a contractual obligation for an underlying asset (Bitcoin), to be delivered at some point in the future. As a raw product and platform, LN is dope as shit.

But it is highly centralized, to the extent that routing will favor highly capitalized, networked hubs. So you can run a lightning node, but visa's LN node will take all the traffic.

I think that Ethereum might be a bossible coin with which many payments are made in the future.

It is possible because Bitcoin has increased it's price even ATH in the market but whereas ETH is still undervalued even though it has potential in the market. But I am completely not saying that ETH is our future coin, there are chances the price can increase in the market.

agree on that , never in any instances that eth can overpower to bitcoin although their blockchain technology is very impressive but the price value  would be matter, it is a basis why bitcoin has been on the top for the fast years

I think Ethereum will can't over take bitcoin. Because bitcoin market cap and Ethereum market cap are very different ethereum over take bitcoin it's not possible to some years. Probably It's will possible to after 10 years ? Crypto world controlled by Bitcoin.

That's a fact, not only a rumour. Bitcoin is facing a big problem with its transaction fees and block confirmation.
You can tell blockstream to give another solution again to the bitcoin scalability problem, even all of the blockstream plan run perfectly just like segwit with nothing differences than before.

I think it's possible for ETH to get over Bitcoin but IMO this process will take really long time :). In the future it'll be the era of ICO project and ETH blockchain is hinge of almost ICO project so I think ETH price in the future will increase very quickly but to be able to get over Bitcoin I think it'll take at least few more years cause Bitcoin price is not stable and wait for ETH :)

The reason for this is only because people still do not know much about other coins and they see bitcoin as being the guiding light for the others. In time as more and more people understand the benefits then they can realise that success of alts is not dependent on bitcoin and then Eth can and probably will overtake bitcoin.

Bitcoin has been the king of this world for long time and it'll keep being the king in the future. Although the price of ETH has increased very quickly since last year but Bitcoin price is also increasing as well. It does seem reasonably likely. I think one effect would be a lot of mainstream media attention. Hopefully it would lead to alt prices decoupling from bitcoin. At the moment bitcoin moves can dictate the whole market. As crypto matures, it will be necessary for coins to rise and fall more on their own merits. So I think it would be healthy for the whole of crypto if BTC were dethroned as number one in cap - even if only for a while.

Even though Ether's price has continued to stay at a level above 0.1 BTC, doesn't mean that it is anywhere close to taking over bitcoin. Its community is nowhere near bitcoin's community on bitcointalk, first of all. And the public awareness for Ether is just no match for bitcoin.

Even if Ethereum temporarily overtakes bitcoin in trading volume, which some coins have already had, it's just due to hype and not because ether is really better or more popular than bitcoin or anything like that.

I'm aware that ETHERIUM has a great potential eversince but I am not seeing it take over BTC very soon. It may have a good team of developers but when it comes to popularity where anything starts being valuable, ETH still has a long way to go. Some people say that the protocol of Ethereum is better than Bitcoin, so someday the price of Ethereum may beat the price of Bitcoin. I do not know about that. I do not know if that is true or not. But all I can say is that Bitcoin will not be defeated as easy as that. Maybe Bitcoin will be defeated, but it will take a lot of effort and a lot of time, I guess. I think the likelihood of this happening is very small because of the bitcoin price too high compared to the others and besides bitcoin is central to benchmark all the coins so very unlikely bitcoin is replaced by altcoin.

ETH has the blockchain 2.0 technology to support many of the current currency to make transactions quickly. With BTC using blockchain 1.0 technology slow and stagnant with large transaction volume as it takes a lot of time.

In that case maybe ethereum can over take bitcoin. But i don't think that this fame you had mention is the only basis to be replace by ethereum. As we can see, bitcoin has overcome many struggle but it still standing as the mother of all coins. So it might be too long to overtake bitcoin in its position.

No one can say i think. But for now it cannot take over bitcoin because for now bitcoin is the most superior altcoin in this time. Maybe not cause bitcoins price is too high for eth to reach even thought eth price is raising but still its not enaugh for gaining the price of btc and eth price is not that consistent it depends on the months on otherhand it only gets the highest price on the month of nov to jan. i am an eth user and i like the concept given . and also seen today many new start up company that have coin based on er20 token eth.
 so I guess that's very possible.  be honest eth right know more useful and productive in my personal opinion.

And also ethereum for now has a cheaper transaction fee than btc but to think btc is more bigger than ethereum so if ethereum has a bigger value so it comes up maybe with a high transaction fee.
