Recently there was a split between the team behind MEW and a new paper wallet site opened up.  Is MEW still safe to use with a Ledger?

Thanks for posting this, I was also thinking same today. Many coins are there and not sure is it safe to keep them after recent dispute like other party got twitter handle etc.

Don't see why it wouldn't be, given there's court documents about who owns MEW flying about they'd be stupid to try scamming people still using it. The only way they'd get away with that type of behavior is to claim they'd been hacked but I not seen any announcements to that affect.

How many of them actually get away with "we got hacked" thingy? Still hope they are nice and cool guys like we all are.

Hopefully it will safe now because me and myself was a victim of a hacker they got all my tokens in my MEW luckily that was my first bounty token but still a lot of money. Anyway try to secure all the things you have here we don't know when they attack again those people are evil.May the God bless they always.

Both are the same the team gets split and created such another similar site just like mew called as mycrypto site. Basically, both of site was using the same system. I'm still using my trezor with mew and all of the things is working smoothly dude. You may need to feel worried about that. It's just about the competition who will be the best ethereum online wallet.

Yes, MEW is as safe as always have been. You still have to be very careful with your private key. I would recommend to use MetaMask and bookmark https://www.myetherwallet.com/.

Yes MEW is still safe but you need to be careful for every move you will do because theres a lot of hacker & phising site in the internet dont ever give information about your mew always store your private key in the safe place. I was checking MEW now and I dont see any problem from there site.

MEW it's a great wallet. I used it and still use it. You can store a very long list of coins in it, making it perfect of an investor that wants to diversify his portofolio.

Good to hear it,at least its been cleared by a sr in rank,it makes a relief somehow as i know that it comes from a user with an experience not like us new.Hopefully they won't do things that  may affect us user because of the splitting of their team.

Was there ever an actual hack? I was under the impression that these things are usually a phishing site which the user unknowingly enters his private keys into.

MEW is always really been safe.The risk do really depends on users discretion when it comes on keeping his keys safe for other people not to be able to hack or stole tokens inside it. Even metamask is already available I do still prefer mew on using storing my tokens.Just be responsible towards security of such wallet because no matter which wallet you do use if you are careless on your private keys it would be still the same story.

I think it is a common question for maximum people. I am also confuse about this issue. Last month my wallet hacked by hacker. Now I am using MetaMask. It is very safe. Now I hope my MEW is safe from hacker.  

Of course its safe . Both developers team declare they will work hard to make their wallet better then competitors have . I'm using mew for a long time and have no problems with it and I can't imagine that mew becoming a scam .... This will lead to a terrible aftermath .

Didn't hear this news so thank you OP for opening a thread. I've heard about MEW being hacked or something in the past few months but it still working fine now so I guess it is still safe to use or else social media such as Facebook and Twitter will be on fire now because of a hacked MEW. There's plenty of coins there and most of my airdrops are there too. Thinking about this makes me think that I should buy an offline wallet very soon to secure all my coins.

Ofcourse it's still safe to use MEW using ledger actually they split but  they are still aiming the same i've just look at mycrypto website and haven't used it but i feel im in the MEW website too

Yes it's safe again although it's never been truly safe. MEW was forked, apparently websites can fork too and they have a competitor now, I still prefer MEW. But there's much safer ways like Metamask and other wallets. MEW is really easy though and it's great that it exists, just make sure you are on the right url.

I believe myetherwallet is still safe. because for my 2 months of using it, I don't encountered any issues / bugged / loss of tokens / coins. So it was safe for me.

I also have token in my mew, actually I am thinking before if it is really safe if i stay my token in my wallet but I don't have Ledger now so I can not transfer my token in offline wallet, so for now I still keep my token mew and always think that it is safe as long as I never share my privatre key in any one.

yeah. it was safe. just keep your private key and don't open it in a computer cafe. Also, open it on your personal computer or laptop and be vigilant. :)

mew is a safe wallet. but you should always check the URL address for the possible phising site. Just be always be careful entering on your private key.

MEW is safe as long as you keep your computer safe. Usually when I'm reading about hacker attacks always there is a problem with the victim's computer which was compromised. Some of them use it for gaming torrents and exchanges. Another one had all his coins in one app and used his phone in open WIFI.
What I want to say is that we must be very careful, if you can't have a 2nd PC just for transactions, buy a hardware wallet or use paper wallets, but don't blame MEW or other wallets.

if you have an investment of over $ 10,000, I think the safest thing to do is to buy a hardware wallet.(ledger, trezor)

This is also my concern. As a matter of fact, a recent post from the twitter account of myetherwallet goes like this:

"Another phishing attempt, this was targeting our #MEWForce. They are already aware what to do with these emails. Are you?"

I hope they will get themselves together and address this as soon as possible. This should be treated urgently because a huge amount of holdings are at stake here. They should treat everything seriously considering that their track record is not as clean as it should be. I hope they will not just sit down on this highly troubling concern.

If you do not enter phishing sites, nothing happens unless you write your private key in one place. You are completely safe.
From time to time you can also get a new wallet address and change your wallet :)

I'd think still safe despite the recent split and bad blood over the twitter account.  I mean they would kinda be the prime suspects if something where to happen so soon after.

MEW is safe because I trust it in storing my tokens.
Until now I don't see or hear any reports that there is a problem with their accounts aside from people
who are not careful with their private key and they become victim of phishing sites.

You can download its source code and run it by yourself if you don't trust the MEW wallet. But I would say MEW is still pretty safe but one can never be sure about the web wallets.

Well if you are using a ledger, I don't see why you should be at risk even in the case of MEW being compromised.

from the first I know ETH and some token ICO based on smart contract from Ethereum I prefer to store it in MyEtherwallet rather than save it in ledger or other place and I think MEW is still very safe it all depends on you how to open wallet at MEW for more safe you should use the json file provided from the MEW to be more secure when opening your wallet.

I think myetherwallet is not safe as of this time because a lot of accounts are being manipulated by hackers, phishings is already there in fact many of phishing websites are registered over the advisory to be aware of most users in accessing wallets. To be safe in accessing website please ensure that the words that you type is correct and legit.

MEW is still safe even there's a split between the team. The only thing that we have to be aware of are the phishing websites that are copying MEW. And with ledger, do you mean ledger nano s? They are both safe and I've been using both of it.

Do you mean 12th of February news? Well, I think one should think twice before transferring money to this new mycrypto.com, but I am sure that mew is still as safe as it ever was. They probably just disagreed on future innovations and stuff, so now their ways split.
And I agree with others who say that using ledger is even safer, since your funds won't be stolen even if others would. Keep calm, it's going to be fine. Others just have to be attentive not to type in their private keys into a good copy of mew.

It mostly is safe to use, but just use it at your own risk, one of the best ways to store your coins would be to buy ledger and store it that way, it would be much more efficient and safer

I guess its fine using Ledger as long we use third party apps to access the MEW. It is not safe when our access to MEW only by entering private key. Mostly we got hacked if we enter phising site.

If you want to know if MEW is safe you need to make research, if the MEW is good to use to make people safe.

the ledger should always put you on the safe side. There was study about as so called man in the middle attack but for me the leger definitely safer than just using private key

MEW has always been safe to use, whatever split that may or may not happen should never affect this. If it did, it would ruin both reputations of either side of the split. Just as with any crypto project, if differences happen, as they often do, the users should not be the ones to suffer. Same as with what happened with the splits in ETH, the splits in Bitcoin. People go different ways, that's all. Nothing to endanger MEW itself, so don't worry.

I honestly don't think that MEW can be hacked unless you were tricked by a phishing site or a newbie who was "required" by a website to enter private key for some "automation" process. You need to know how important it is to safeguard our private keys no matter what.

I treat my private key like its millions of dollars, so I make sure I'll never show it to others (even my family, best friend, etc.).

I really don't know why people are scared about MEW, MEW is one of the best site to use when it comes to ERC 20 and Etherium, If your scared try to use Coinbase.

Yes.My Ether wallet is safe and cant be hacked because they not hold your private key but you must protect your private key away from trojen,caplock,screen stealer, free (public) wifi. When another person have your private key mean you lost all your Ether and token. Keep it safe

i never think MEW that's the reason to make it not safe, it's always safe but the team make a new thing to public doesn't mean will leave the old one right :)

i think so, if we true website link, and no enter fake link, MEW always safe to used.  if we on focus link, not in hurry so we can spared from hacker.

My ether wallet is still safe to use. There is no issue in myetherwallet as long as you keep your account secured. Check the real website of myetherwallet and be sure you are opening your account with cautions.

Don't forget that MyEtherWallet is an interface and not a website with storage.
There is no database and no server to store anything so, technicaly speaking, myetherwallet can't be the root cause of an issue.

Mew is always been safe. It's the users fault if there wallet is comprised because there online activities are not secured. Always bookmarks mew in your browser and always keep your private key secured and don't lost it.

This is one of the safest ways to protect data. I do not resort to this, because the private key, file and the code word is also sufficient to protect resources.

MEW is pretty much safe. Just make sure that you get a hardware wallet and then use it with conjunction with MEW. Hardware wallet keeps the pvt keys within itself and hence they cannot be stolen even in case of phishing attempts of in case your computer gets hacked.

Just did a fee transaction and everything looks fina as usual. As long as the private key is safe!

I think It is safe, I have been using it for long without any problem, but it would be safer if you use keystone file to login instead of private key.

yes i think my etherwallet  having security for users.it provides private key which is very important. when private key is hacked by someone then it is unsafe to use.

Its pretty safe wallet but the only problem is ,its a website wallet, means very prone to phishing. If you are not vigilant enough to check  the website before login then you may easily login to a phishing site and all your assets inside will gone. So, to make it safer, add the MEW website to your bookmark in the browser. Another very important is do not click any links in your email from scammers pretending that they are from MEW team asked you to click the link for the update or else all your coins inside, dont believe that because , ever-since, the MEW support team never ever send a message in email with the link of the MEW website.

Myetherwallet is safe from the past. But for absolute security, do not expose your private key outside. Use a third party to log on.

As of now MEW is still safe to use but to be more secured and stay safe use the offline version of MEW or you can start using Metamask. Always stay safe guys.

as far as i know mew wallet is safe. somebody claims that thier wallet was hack. but actully not. because of carelessness that instead of wallet add is to be givin during applying bounty. they use to give thier wallet key. thats why they claim that mew is not safe. its really sfe. only the holder is reponsible to taking care your wallet.

It is still safe and will be always safe. You can use myetherwallet offline download to your computer if you want it to be more secure.

Myetherwallet it was always safe to use in spite of all the FUD spread by the Blue team. Now, even if its original team has split and created Mycrypto, MEW is the same and it`s even safer to use with a Ledger or any other hardware wallet. Remember that MEW id not holding our funds, it is only an interface of the Ethereum blockchain.

The majority of those are claiming about their mew wallet got hacked caused by their own fault. I was seeing so many people are believing to put their private key in the phising site. But the fact they are all blaming mew after they have been scammer by the scammer. This time there is another choice just like mycrypto but in my opinion mycrypto will have regular repository update rather than mew with kvhnuke.

Yes it is safe just save the private keys but you know their is a risks since it is an online wallet. Some has the issues on mew with regards of stolen token though they are not a victim of phishing online. Better use a wallet like ledger it has more feedback secured coins and safe because you are the only one can access the device.

As for me I always use metamask and it is easy to use, maybe you can give it a trial.

I am using it correctly and safely, but in my opinion we have already experienced hacking issues and should use caution, principally with Ledger.

its still safe. the site is protected. you just need to protect your private key and you are all good. I still used mew and only mew. easy to use and support almost all erc20 tokens.

You have nothing to worry about, it is just a fork of MEW, we see software being fork everytime, Bitcoin has been fork and that doesn't mean is not safe to use, eEtherDelta was just fork also and both platforms are online, just decide which of the two wallet best suit your need and offer best security

I don't know when the split happened in the myetherwallet support team and for me it always working well recently I logged into my MEW where all of my funds are totally safe.

It's quite a safe service that works very well and all the gossip that today go around this project is really just gossip and nothing more. So use as long as you can. Of course, all systems are not perfect, so while it is secure use

Of course the team behind the mew will remain the same,few idiots from the mycrypto would run that site,but the core team behind mew will remail the same.We shouldnt be worried because these people are working for our wallet's security long enough.They wont give us any problem with that forking of employees,it depends on you if you are going to use mycrypto which is potential scam than the all time favorite myetherwallet.

MEW is still safe to use in my opinion, although you can use either of the two platforms, i think it will continue to be until such a time if there will ever be, when there is any kind of risk associated with using it, and i think the team would let the users know if that happens.

Yes mew is still safe but I suggest you use metamask it is much safer and more secured. And in opening MEW I suggest that you just use only your ETH address not your private key it will prevent you from being hack by hackers. Just take care in opening in MEW.

I agree with you completely. I checked my wallet recently and observed that all my coins were carefully secured without any sort of problem whatsoever. I fully trust MEW at the moment just like I have believed in them for quite a long time. As others have stated, if you lost coins to hackers by sharing your private keys and downloading viruses, it is completely on you. I suggest metamask which is easily one of the best ways to secure your coins and accessing them through your private key is also recommended.

MEW is the best wallet to be considered and safe. Also its supporting of ERC 20  token makes it more special and majority of the users I think would be preferring this wallet only as it is easy and convenient for everybody to use and buy/sell coins.

Ive used MEW plenty of times since the split and I have had no problems at all, I like to use it with my Metamask.

It is still safe to use MEW, but you should store you Ethereum and tokens on a Trezor or a Ledger Nano S to secure your invests. I used Myetherwallet the last 2 weeks and I dont had any problems.

Myetherwallet has always been safe to use.  I would stick with using MEW rather than use mycrypto.com.  I didn't like how mycrypto hijacked the MEW twitter account when the split occurred.  Good thing MEW was able to get back their account.  

For me it is still safe, because ever since I started using MyEtherWallet i've never experienced being hacked by somebody else, All my tokens are still intact there. I think the only one who gets hack by someone is they put info's into phishing site. So becareful to everybody check the link first before putting your private key.

MEW is the safest wallet for ethereum and erc20 tokens and it is proven and tested for years,so why would the team destroy their repuations? are you willing to risk to the mycrypto website?isntead of the most recommended myetherwallet.com wallet? its your choice but for me mew will still be my first choice because it has been there for years.

Yes it is safe to use MyEtherWallet with Ledger Nano because you cannot open the wallet without your hardware.  Make sure to have a back up for pass phrase just in case you lost your device.

Very often a victim is guilty for the fact that its coins were stolen. You always need to be careful. And you should be three times more careful if you work with crypto.

I'm using MEW. After the split there were no problems. Owners conduct a court case, but the work of the service is not negative.

Of course,there is nothing to worry about with mew because it has been there for a long time,on the other hand you should worry about using mycrypto wallet because if they stole the twitter account of mew,they can do it with the users wallet in the future.They shouldnt be supported by the community because these people are very unprofessional.

Myetherwallet is safe only if you do as they advise you to. I don't think the split can have an effect on the safety of the site. It is just going to create a tight competition between them and none of them will plan that but maybe it could be series of possible ddos attacks from both sides.
If you still doubt, stick to their advice: use metamask and login with metamask keys on myetherwallet's site.

I don't see any reason to doubt about MyEtherWallet safety. The most important is to have a strong password and to never share the private key.
Beware also of those scam emails pretenting to be MEW.

with ledger nano s you can use mew , no issue at all , bcoz it is hardware wallet and you are not sharing your key with mew .

The OP need not to worry at all since he is even making use of a cold storage. The only thing he will need to be careful with is not making any transaction on a phishing site, moreover, since he does not need his private key to do any transaction and all he needs is the cold storage, then he should have no issue with his funds not being secured but MEW is still very active without any changes.

I have been doing series of transactions using meta mask, and I have had no problem as well, and since he is using a cold storage where the keys are store inside of the device itself, I am sure he should not even be bothered at all. Anyone who should be bothered should probably be those who are making use of their private keys to log in, but even at that, MEW is still very intact.

I still use mew. you do not have to worry, mew pretty good and safe I guess.

I always use MEW and I trust this purse, even the disintegration of the team does not bother me much, I know that guys are doing an excellent product, reliable and protected  8).. if there is a chance to lose their tokens, then only because of their carelessness and imprudence !!! :D > ;)

the most important thing is you didn't log in through phising site and keep your private key in safe place
also do not tell your private key to anybody, this will make your mew account safe

Following that logic one should be able to use your key you got from generating Myerherwallet at the new site Mycrypto, or anyother interface to the blockchain you trust.

There is a way to use it offline. you can use mew in offline mode. Or you can connect to mew with trezor hardware wallet. Hardware wallets are a little bit expensive but still they deserve their prices. Many people keep so much money in their mew wallets but dosent buy hardware wallets...

If you correctly approach security, then tokens can be stored on any purse. If we talk about MEW, the main thing is not to tell anyone your private key. And then your tokens will be safe.

Never had any problems with MEW. Its simply secure, and verifiably secure. The github source cannot be hacked. And all operations signing Tx can be done offline

I keep using myetherwallet and still consider them the safest option in combination with ledger nano s. Don't buy into that bs spread by taylor leaving company, she's eligible for law suit for what she did

Me too, but IMO a hacker can access MEW without big problems using a trojan... Therefor MEW is not much more secure than an exchange IMO. Please correct if i am wrong

If you open MYetherwallt you will find out there is a content in that site that write: "please check LC in the topic and address bar and please check the right spelling of writing" ok, If you check this cases Myetherwallet be safe for you.

i find mew good to use. i heard humors of hacking but it is a personal mistake in which they do not take care of their private keys or phising sites. it always depends on the user.

Now I am trying to avoid MyEtherWallet. Of course I keep there some funds but part of them I transferred into Metamask and MyCrypto. I don’t think that the split in the management of this service is a good sign.

The development teams are working and doing everything possible to keep our wallets safe. MEW is a secure wallet, but you should always check the URL address and follow all security the precautions.

I think that the news about the split of the team will not affect the safety of MEW use in any way. Today, this wallet is used by so many people that it is impossible to imagine the consequences of break-ins and vulnerabilities.

That split doesn't affect the safety of the wallet. Afterall, MEW is not even a wallet, is simply an interface that allows you to access the blockchain.

As long as there is no report of wallets getting hacked or a news about it then it is safe to assumed that it is still safe. I have used myetherwallet a few days ago and my eth and tokens still intact.

As far my understanding if we are using myetherwallet or other doesn’t make any difference because finally private key or Json file matters. I am using same wallet private key in myetherwallet, mist and eidoo wallet.

Eidoo wallet may considered safe due to Ive tried using this wallet I can say it is safe. On myetherwallet the risks is so huge because some got lose their eth. Better used hardware wallet is good and secured all your coins.

Your myetherwallet would be safe if you're careful on keeping your public and private key.
The only wallet I have is MyEtherWallet so now I don't have to worry about the hacks and hijacks because I've been keeping my keys into the most secure place that only myself knows.

I doubted Eidoo is more secure than MyEtherWallet but anyway, Eidoo is a good one but I am only using MyEtherWallet since the beginning and it's the only wallet I have now since I abandoned the other one because it was full of shit coins came from useless shit airdrops.

My ether wallet is a safe wallet. But you should be careful on your account. Avoid downloading or clicking suspicious links or websites. And be aware that some websites are phising sites dont give your information to them especially your password . Avoid airdrop too there are lot of scammer there you enter the link of your infos like email, passwords, name etc. You are the one who is responsible to your MEW so always be careful on clicking sites.

     I have been using myetherwallet for quite some time now and have used it yesterday for selling some coin that is getting dumped rapidly. Judging by how I haven't encountered any problems yet in using myetherwallet, I do not see any reason as to why I need to worry about it being unsafe to use. I guess so. There were glitches in the past related to myetherwallet but the developers behind the website are always quick to fix all of them. Actually, I have not gone through some very serious issues with MEW. I only went through a single concern when I used my MEW in connecting to etherdelta. I guess the problem was not with MEW but with etherdelta. So far, there is no other problem that I encountered with MEW.

I do think its still safe, i got plenty coin in there and i do think to hold my coin in there rather than on exchange site. Mew got a good reputation so far so ill keep stick with it.

I think that the key information here is "with Ledger" part. I think that split or no split, if you are using Ledger you are good and safe - you are the owner of your keys and even if MEW for whatever split-related reason ceases to exist anymore, you will be able to access your founds in another client.

And using Ledger additionally safeguards the key from third parties, even if the split-related party changes the MEW site code so it is compromised.

I set gas too low on a IPO token purchase last week (ETH). 55000 limit .0000055 GWEI. Don't laugh, I did. Now etherscan reports the transaction as pending...the transaction is in lala. Will probably never complete and not sure if it would eventually error out. I did this on the Ledger, not in MEW. I want to do another transaction that will apparently replace that transaction if I use the same nonce. I think 55 gas is too much and maybe 55000 limit is not enough. What is nominal/reasonable without my having to pay more in than I need to?  The ICO Telegram admin recommended 55000 gas and 55000 gas limit. From my researching such, I think that was wrong. I have since navigated MEW to where I can see the transaction and to where I can re-run it using the same nonce. It does not let me enter the spend amount. I get no response when I key in numbers. My only choice is max spend and I don't want to do that. I've connected the Ledger.  MEW sees it , it etherscans, allows me to re-run it - comes up (all through MEW). I want to spend .11 ether. What am I doing wrong? Should I not even use MEW and do it on the Ledger as I did the original transaction with this time -  correct entries in gas and gas limit? Can I ignore the contract data field since I'm sending ether, not erc-20? What in the world do I populate that field with if I do have to use it? More puzzling than all is my eth balance is reported as being less the .11 ether; looking as though the transaction did complete. The Ledger indicates same depleted balance. Will that balance indicated re-up after the transaction fails. That may be forever...or will the balance stay same once I do complete the successful transaction? I certainly do not want to double-deplete my balance on just one successful transaction of .11 ether. Thanks in advance to anyone that wants to take this one on. MEW has been my wallet since i started here and hadn't had any problem at all, so i'd say it is still safe to use. I find MEW very easy to use. I dont know but i suggest try Ethereum because you get higher profit or earning from it, also its better to try in some altcoin that you know have potential than try other coin that you have doubt about it. If you are not using Google DNS than its safe for you. But also you can use mycrypto.com its now more safe then myetherwallet.

Mew is a good tool to create ethereum and token wallet. So it is not necessary to use myetherwallet only if you want to make a transaction. You have access to your tokens, you have private key and you can use it anywhere.
When you see messages about hacking or something else, you can just not log in your wallet or do it on another resource. If you want to check balance - just use ethplorer. And no need to worry about this.

Please do yourself a service and purchase a hardware wallet. If you are relying on private keys stored online, you might find yourself some trouble when sites like mew are compromised.

As of now, I have not logged in yet in my MEW account because of a recent Google DNS breach strategy by the hackers in which around 215 Ether were stolen from multiple accounts and were transferred in different accounts. The best advice that they had for us to login with MEW is that we should switch our DNS from Google to Cloudflare.

Yes it is, but there is no need to enter your wallet very often to check the balance. You can use etherscan io for this. You also need to check the Mew domain when you go to the site to make sure that it's original, but it's better to add it to the bookmarks.

I use MEW all the time with MetaMask. I would not recommend using MEW on its own as that would be a less safe option since you would opening yourself up to people trying to steal your private key or password.

You're right. Myetherwallet is safe to use but you would be more secured using it with the metatask extension which has been provided with it on the websit. MEW is actually one of the best wallets out there and they have actually said the hack was not a fault of theirs but regardless of that they still went on and fixed it al in time. You can import your existing myetherwallet to metamask, or create a new wallet in metamask. You don't need to put your private key on metamask.

This includes MEW. but as long as its properly encrypted and all the possible security measures followed, then you should just be fine. Its however advisable to invest in the hardware wallets instead

The security of the mew wallet is very good, I think the hacked cases are mainly due to fraud and the careless man himself reveals the private key. Mew is hard to hack private keys.

I haven’t been using MyEtherwallet for a long time yet. I changed this service on another platform Metamask. In addition to it I use hardware wallets, mostly Trezor. On my mind this is best way to keep money securely.
