Altcoins can differ from Bitcoin in a range of ways. Some have a different economic model or a different coin-distribution method, like altcoins that were given away to all citizens of a country. I don't think we'll see anything significant this year. Even calculating it in a positive way, The rest of 5 months will be gone for compensating the loss in the last 7 months. Even a sharp rise would benefit Bitcoin more than the altcoins.

I think so. I have high hopes with some altcoinsnspecially those in the top 10 of the market susch as ETH, EOS, ADA and IOTA. They are quality coins with high potential in the future. In fact, I believe more in altcoins than Bitcoin in terms of long term value.

Sadly, this is true, but is it supposed to be this way? Throughout the history of crypto-market bitcoin's dominance was generally decreasing, but at the times when the price was going down, it was increasing. The current dominance is very strong, so firstly we need btc to start recovering and then we will see people being open for other investments. However, something might change in the future, because many blockchain projects don't have much in common with bitcoin and should be considered as investment opportunities regardless to what is happening with btc.

As the ICO value of the coin is very negligible so even a certain rise in the coin price becomes huge as those are in cents or few dollars. So when the price starts to rise and reaches 500$ or thousands etc the % of small increase is small and thus % wise gain only such small price tokens can be a great for future.

As far as distribution method goes, the only fair distribution model is no premine, no developers fees, equal start for everyone. Like in bitcoin.
As far as proof of work algo goes, they can all become prone to specialized hardware (ASIC). The ones that are resistant to ASIC, are probably not widespread enough and therefore not lucrative enough to use specialized hardware.
As far as programming language goes, the altcoins developers should be very careful not to create security risks with their versatility.

We will see good prices at the end of the year i think. Every year , we can see that kind of falling prices , market. Its very normal actually.

There's no guarantee that history will repeat instead bitcoin has gone through a year where the market completely bearish that it's stagnant around 200-400 USD at that time and moving slowly.
The yearly price cycle of bitcoin is merely a data, the market purely come from demands so it's up to the people who decides whether it's time to pump or dump.

Actually we should not forget the fact that altcoins are already given lot of importance despite the fact that they are most scamming projects around here. Bitcoin however always surpass the altcoins because it is so much popular and gaining the popularity on top of this in exceptional ways! Its development is slow due to the public interest keeps fluctuating about its development whenever government is making mega changes in the laws. ALtcoins surely are on top with some alternative methods of using them but they will never surpass the bitcoin tech or its place in the future by nay means that for sure.

But have you ever wondered what the biggest drawback of altcoins is? Its price is very unstable, and sometimes it can even rise or fall more than 3 times in one day. This is unimaginable in the stock market. The key reason for this abnormality is that the price of altcoins is full controled by someone, this is a fatal flaw in altcoins, so most altcoins will eventually die.

At the moment, Altcoins are sinking rock in the ocean. BTC bull run will rekt them more. But the time is good if you are looking for an entry point.
My strategy is to buy partially in every dip of the strong alts who have the potential to jump back to there Dec-Jan prices.

Altcoin now consist of thousands of coins and we can't generalize them showing few coins having larger marketcap.
There are even some altcoins that made over x100 and more profit in the decreasing market of 2018.

Actually the market of crypto currency is facing a tough situation now days. From the start of year to now the market is experiencing a downward trend in the prices of the crypto currencies. Without the improvement in the bitcoin, the improvement in the altcoins is not possible. At the end of the year, we can experience something good.

As you know altcoins price are somehow dependent on the price of BTC. The price of BTC is low now but it is being predicted that the price will recover within the end of 2018. If it happens I hope that the price of Altcoins will also recover and the market price will rise high.

They do differ from bitcoin, but that does not mean that it will take over the crypto field. Most of them are just duplicate/clone of each other. Tons of shitty altcoins are filling the market. Thus, this gives a very bad image to altcoin market. Again, the price of altcoins are also driven by the price of bitcoin. If we see bitcoin skyrocketing, we also see the price of altcoin going up. Altcoin needs  to have their own totally independent value for it to take over to actually "rock this year".

Altcoins are unique and different in many ways. That is why people tend to diversify their investments when choosing altcoins to invest to. We still have almost half a year to see whether the market will recover or if there will be another bull-market this year. Last year was really profitable and fruitful for everyone, let's hope that the end of the year will be good.

If you asked me a month ago i would say yes, but right now and after all this time and seeing how the market has been going down hill and how much bad news has been thrown at it, it makes me think that this is not the year for the cryptocurrency, ever since ICO have became a popular thing back in December 2017 a lot of shit coins have been entering the market with no actual purpose other than taking advantage and making profit from users and i think a lot of people realized that and that is why the market is slow, so until something new comes out the market is going to stay the way it is .

An altcoin somewhere is skyrocketing that is to be expected, but the majority of the market is going down and people expecting a general recovery are mistaken and the people like you looking to invest in one of the few coins which are going up may get lucky once in a while but trying to get big profits in the short term in this market is going to be incredibly risky.

I was thinking the same but in the last month things have changed dramatically and alts time seems long gone when we talk about year 2018 so it's better to stay away from them and only invest in good ICO's or in alts you can read the bottom of charts but like I said it's a tricky time right now in cryptos.

This is correct but still the top coins control the market, there are certainly unique coins that grow not in the market but their very little!

The top coins control the market that is undeniable but if you want to obtain big profits those profits can only be had in low market cap coins, I know that it can be extremely risky to invest in such a coins but if you really take the time to read their whitepapers then the chances that you select the right coin goes up significantly so if you want big profits you need to accept an higher risk.

It is true that only bitcoin has to come forward to overcome this worst situation. But bitcoin can't do it by itself.  Other cryptocurrency have to come forward and work with BTC .

Not sure about every altcoin but PRG, ICX are going to rock for sure with their upcoming massive projects that have stolen everyone’s hearts. These coins are working on some great projects and can give high earnings.

Not all. All the altcoins are not very competitive. Bitcoin is in this industry since a long time so obviously the coins cannot replace it. The coins like TAU, NEO and ADA are classic and can totally lead the market and perhaps replace bitcoin too in the near future.

We pray that happened and cryptocurrencies get on it feat as almost all of them are currently in red.  Bitcoin is what is pulling down most of them because there all depends on bitcoin for survival. Most altcoins are not based on a ready product and these projects need at least 8 months to finish their work.
I think we will see a rocket jump in the first quarter of 2019 (that's the milestone indicated in many roadmaps) but there wouldn't be significant changes up till the end of 2018.

Altcoins are alternative coins for bitcoin, and I would like to believe that an Increase or further decrease in bitcoin, will relatively affect the altcoins. That means there's an indirect relationship between these two. I do not see bitcoin rocking this year, we will have to wait for next year until that happens. My prediction is there will be a breakthrough application that can allow anyone on earth with a cell phone to easily trade crypto currencies with a couple of clicks.

Once that happens (sometime in the next couple years or three,) you will see an explosion of activity from the masses across all cryptos rather than a gradual ramp up in interest.

After all, there are altcoins that can not be held at all, but which need to be sold as soon as they have increased in price. I bought it and wait. What is the cause of panic. Well,the altcoins have taken a major hit after the price depression that happened of late.However,looking at the fact that the price dump was more of a test of resilience,which kind of showed the coins which have more support and thus were held by investors more during the dip because of the great potential of those projects as opposed to those that were dumped because investors felt they were not worth a hold.This thus imo kind of has sanitized the cryptospace so as to allow the best altcoins bounce back from the dip and continue it's upward trend.This with time probably not this year will see altcoins mooning.

I don't think that altcoins is going to take most of us to that place that we are hoping it takes us to. For one, many of us are expecting that most of these coins hit their all time high this year, but I do not see that happening right cos of the way the market is built right now. The prices of these altcoins are down and a lot of them are struggling to keep their feet in the market. Even if anything is going to happen with them, it wouldn't be so much of a big deal.
