Dear sylkyx,

If I were you, before considering trying to conduct business
on these forums, I would strongly recommend you pay your
outstanding debts, namely the loan you took on 2012-04-10
and which is now two months overdue.

Can you post a link to that information znort? Thanks.

Thank you :)

I am the one who purchased the 16 Toxic 5850s from Sylkyx. He sent me a picture of them along with a named and dated sign (or at least 15 of them, in the 3x5 array), and has provided a DHL tracking number. The tracking number is still not up on the DHL site, but there's still the possibility it will be soon.

I have noticed that HonorMe and Sylkyx log in and log off at the same time, so I've been careful with this transaction as everyone should be with big purchases from new users. I'll let everyone know when the shipment gets into the system and when/if I get the cards.

sounds good. I'm probably just being paranoid. And with the influx of new users over the past few months there are bound to be similarites in their locations, etc.

Hi there,
Sorry i am not subcribed to these threads otherwise i may have responded sooner. I am confused as who else you are referring to other than myself. I have others on this forum who can vouch for how genuine i actually am. Yes, that picture is same, as its the same rig, i never sold my entire rig, just the cpu, so why that would be brought up in this thread i do not know.

Besides, i shipped 16x 5850s to MrTeal yesterday morning, still waiting for the tracking to be updated with DHL. I provided a signed picture of all 16 cards and have been doing a fair number of genuine business on these forums over the last few days to raise money for my signature.

Please could you not try and give me a bad name on this forum when i am working very hard to do the opposite.

Edit: Oh you are talking about HonorMe. The only thing i have in common with him is a sale we made a few days ago. Regarding login/logout times, i am not able to verify this.

I smell fish. And not the eatible kind....

...

All this evidence is very circumstantial and imho you're wandering into the FUD zone. I politely ask you to not clutter up a sales thread unless you have something more concrete. As far as I can tell, sylkyx has been more than professional and demonstrates good faith that he wants to complete the transactions posted.

There is a separate Trading Discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0) forum which might be more appropriate if you believe that he is attempting to scam people.

No worries at all. If you are on the up and up then I am the only one who will be left with a bad name for jumping to conclusions too quickly.  And I never leave things hanging. If I am wrong I am more then willing to say so and clear up any issues if I cause them.

All this evidence is very circumstantial and imho you're wandering into the FUD zone. I politely ask you to not clutter up a sales thread unless you have something more concrete. yea, I am aware of the available 'forums' here. And if I thought you were getting scammed I would have PMd you. I posted here instead of trade because anyone interested in the 16 cards would not have saw it in time. The parties invloved saw my posts, contacted me and have cleared some things up. Thanks for your useful input though.  I may be mistaken but one thing I do not do is spread FUD. If I bother to spend my personal time on something it is becaue it either has value to me or I belive it to be beneficial to others. In this case I am hopefully wrong but that does not change the info that I saw which is much more than the small bit of 'circumstantial' info I posted here.

Regards,
 Derek

Got a SATA cable in the mail today, which isn't exactly what I ordered. Somehow there must have been a mixup in shipping. The phone number he gave me didn't seem to work, but I was able to find the right one and I gave him a call at home. He was very apologetic for the mistake, and agreed to fix it within 24 hours. I remain suspicious, but I will follow up in this for anyone else interested.

I don't really know anything about the circumstances, but being apologetic and making (empty) promises is a very common scammer behavior. Watch out.

On the flip side, what's an honest trader supposed to do? If I were selling thousands of dollars of GPUs, and there was a screw up, I would be apologetic and trying to fix the situation.

Damn that sucks.  I’m curious how he is going to try and fix this if it really was just a screw up.  Because I'm guessing the cards are gone or he would have noticed an extra 16 cards lying around.  And if he got the sata cable and card orders mixed up the sata cable guy probably won't return them.

He claimed he must have accidentally sent them to Leezyist. I find it hard to believe that he could have done that, but who knows. He actually did have the cards in his possession as he sent me a photo of them with his name and the date on them. The mistake is hard to believe as the DHL documents he sent me showed the weight and value as 10x the numbers as were listed on the actual documents I received.

His story does seem to check out though. The person he was fundraising for to help her sister actually does exist, though her Facebook page doesn't indicate if she's left yet. Sylkyx does also live with someone with the same last name as her as well, which was how I was able to track down his information. Who knows, maybe he was desperate to help.

Really, I'm too pathologically honest. I was extremely suspicious of this, and other members counseled me to just wait for the package to arrive before sending anything. In the end I did because I had agreed that I would send half upon confirmation of the package being sent, and that was fulfilled. Still, we'll see what happens tomorrow, I'm actually hopeful that he'll return what I paid. I may not be in England, but I do know a lot about him. He got a relatively small sum of coins, and for most people it wouldn't be worth me contacting his foster sister, his parents, former employers, the local police and his profs to explain the situation to them. It might not do anything, but if I were a prof and I received reasonably solid proof that a student of mine was committing fraud on the internet I might not do anything about it, but I would definitely look twice for academic dishonesty in the future.

He claimed he must have accidentally sent them to Leezyist.

Funny that he would say that since HonorMe is the one who was selling cards to Leezyist. Sounds like he is getting his multiple accounts mixed up.

You are way to trusting. I(we) told you not to send that money, m8 :/

and he is the only one in control of the Danielle Revell Facebook. The account was just created recently. The 'first join' wall entry was deleted and none of the 'freinds' seem to know anything about her.

edit; Did Azn atleast get his cpu?

not sure who InterCoin is.  I do suspect Honor and Sylk are the same or atleast are working together irl to pull shit off. And am fairly confident that leez is either one or both of them.

because he was keeping his word that he would send half whne they got shipped. It was a rather large chunk of cards for someone to ship first on. I have to commend him for that and am sorry you he got burned for it.

Holy fucking shit.  It's that easy?  Makes me want to give up the paltry 6.8% I'm making each week and just start scamming people.  It's much more profitable it seems.

Edit: Sorry, MrT.  I'm not necessarily directing at you.  Good man for holding up your part of the bargain.  It just pisses me off when I see people taken advantage of when it could easily be avoided.

Yes.

Also, there's no practical reason to releasing any funds at the time of shipping vs when the item is received. I could understand needing money prior to shipping in order to pay for the shipping, but once it's shipped, just keep the funds in escrow.

Even if the actual cards were sent, many shipping services allow the sender to redirect the package all the way until just before it is delivered. Until it arrives, assume that it is still in their possession.

Correct.

I'm a bit confused why he would try something like this since I insisted on escrow if he were actually intent on scamming me. Originally he wanted to send first and then when I got the package, I would send bitcoins and processor without dealing with escrow.

But I insisted on an escrow as protection for both parties since the sums involved were rathar large.

He still has my benefits of the doubt (maybe HonorMe is his roommate or something?), but anymore strikes would make me feel quite uncomfortable.

I don't belive you guys were the intended targets. He was using the trades with you and MrTeal as credit towards some new loans on both accounts.

I do feel bad for MrTeal.

At one point he/they may have actually intended to send the cards to MrTeal as a way of building rep because I do believe that us lenders were the real intended target.  I got to chat with him through PM several times and something just did not feel right to me.

What really pushed me to the scammer side was not anything he/they said in here (these forums) although suspicious, it was this:  http://www.indiegogo.com/p/122324 (http://www.indiegogo.com/p/122324)

Which he linked to from this message:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88015.msg968353#msg968353 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88015.msg968353#msg968353)

The whole "Cancer Sick Sister" page itself reeks of scam.

My working theory is because that did not work, raised $0, and having spent all the time to write up that scam and not wanting to waste the effort he/they then came here to the Bitcoin forums.  The idea was to sell a few things, build some rep, then scam as many large loans as possible.

When the lenders became suspicious the fall back was to take what they could on the cards.

Anyone who couldn't see the cancer sister page was a scam is an idiot. Look at the poor spelling and cheesy bullshit. If this guy isn't Nigerian I will eat my own toes..

And yes I have been scammed out of a couple of btc here and there from various business deals, but for this large a transaction there is no excuse for stupidity like this after receiving so many warning from other posters..

PS: this isn't hindsight bias I saw these threads weeks ago and laughed at this guys pathetic attempt at scamming. little did I know he'd actually be successful. doh!

Given the non-response from PMs, the still invalid DHL tracking number, and recent developments here on this thread, I believe sylkyx actually was actually attempting to scam some loans and has no intention of actually sending me the processor and now want my bitcoins back so I can pay off the loan I put up for this trade.

I will PM hashking in a moment with my bitcoin address.

That is true, you do need some proof that you sent funds to the person you are accusing. Not as if wire transfers are the only way to do that but it is easier for the police to work with since it is something they deal with semi-regularly.

Definitely depends on the country, the US is very locale specific in how the police would deal with complaints. Where as some Asian countries have actually been vocal about the willingness to use police action over digital property crimes.

Exactly. Please show me an example where BTC has been stolen and somebody prosecuted for that.

This would show BTC is legitimate or starting to be accepted by the "world".

The guy accepted wire transfer then fails to deliver = no wonder he gets jail.

Why has shakaru scammer not had any problems whatsoever ?

Maybe he is such a good guy and everybody loved him ? Or maybe nobody can do a damn thing to BTC hackers / scammers unless BTC is legalised.

Sorta seen him around holding some guys 25btc, so I wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic.

He is being sarcastic. He did the guy wrong in some respects but due to the lack of a tag that is in between scammer and maybe one for 'unethical', he got the full out scammer tag. He is still very pissed, and maybe rightly so in some way. He should still just send the guy his change back and move on with being a "highly moral, respected, super cool forum guy' imho. ;p

But, he is definitly not in the caliber as these dudes pulling the multi-account, confidence scams...

You can sue for breach of contract and the lost value and consequential damages as well as the value of the item. There are things that are sold or traded that are not money. Especially art and real estate and securities where no real cash trades hands, only digital codes or rights or certificates. You could even claim fraud and possible go for treble damages in small claims court and easily win a judgement, or get police involved.

Somewhere out there, there's a poor guy who is still waiting on his SATA cable due to this honest mistake.
