That's a good news since Uber in the Philippines is very popular. Actually it is more popular than the traditional taxi. If they are going to accept bitcoin, much better. But the transaction fee plus the rate of meter, isn't that a bit expensive? Anyway, this is a good help for bitcoin because this will promote bitcoin more. And hopefully bitcoin will be a part of people for their everyday lives. Good job Uber.

itself right? let see how this tweets will bring up something for both btc and uber system.

Uber folks here in our country are good companions when travelling across the traffic streets and highways of the metros. They usually give me an excellent experience and make me forget the time because of how cheerful and approachable they are to their passengers. Hopefully a few chap has this on their car and I'll gladly tip them and educate them more about bitcoin.

Well it is good news it is. And I really like to see that bitcoin can be use in UBER. Many people are now known uber and many use it as an EVERYDAY transport. And with bitcoin combined with uber, well it is heaven for us who uses bitcoin. We are using internet so that we can call the cab that will takes us to our own destination. And we are using internet in bitcoin right? To access our wallet. And it is like hitting 2 birds using one stone right?

Isn't this just an initiative from the driver himself, I haven't seen this in other UBER cars?
Or is it actually UBER who came up with this?

If it's just this driver who set this up, I would expect Uber to integrate Bitcoin payments any time soon.

I think, shortly it will not be possible. But, the idea is great. Maybe not Uber, but some company will open a business with a taxi, which you could pay only by cryptocurrencies. Pros it's of course openness of transaction. Against it's not everyone knows something about cryptocurrencies and blockakchain) But, behind it the future.

Only for tipping? Ah, well it's something atleast. It would had been better if Uber started accepting fares in BTC, but anyways its still a step forward in bitcoin being treated as a currency as its meant to be. Still its a great  news nonetheless.

Uber always goes against the rules. It's good that they accept bitcoin, but this can not be done in all countries. Even Uber itself in many countries outside the law. It seems to me that the breakthrough of bitcoin could be an opportunity to purchase items online and in restaurants.

Really??  That's a great new for many Filipino and especially for the driver of the uber here in the Philippines. Uber is the modern vehicles that the traditional taxi and it is very safe than taxi. But how it will convert into money??  They don't have an idea about bitcoin unless it will spread and tell them by someone who has a knowledge about bitcoin.  But for the meantime it is very nice to hear that.

it is a good news for us, bitcoin user, because we can use bitcoin to pay uber services. but uber company should make adjustment for the fee in every country that have their services so people will be satisfying for using services from uber. soon the other company like uber will be following and i am sure that many bitcoin user will use the services.

This is the goodnews that they start accept bitcoin as  a payment and hopt this might continue into another thing again.

Bro, I am using Uber for past 6 months but I do not find the option to pay the taxi fare with the bitcoin. Simply they fiat option and debit/credit card option to pay it.
I hope they might testing bitcoin option in their beta version, We expect update site management team.

I don't think that tipping using Bitcoin can be popular here in the Philippines. Why would I want to waste my Bitcoin just for tipping when in fact we know that it is a little bit of a hassle buying Bitcoin here in the country. Bitcoin is already expensive and to include the add-ons by wallet providers it is already beyond what can be comfortable pricing.

Tipping is good when we felt generous but I will never use my Bitcoin for it. For the simple reason i stated above...though this can help make Bitcoin be more popular and really act more as a currency rather than a tool for speculation.

Uber officially doesn't accept bitcoins, but Bitcoin can be used for Uber by paying through Shift Card (Coinbase) or Xapo debit card or through other virtual cards (bitcoin).

Earlier some Uber drivers put up a QR code on the back of their seat for tipping. The tipping app mentioned in the above tweet is Vugo, it has been around since 2015.

https://govugo.com/drive/

Quote
Now the Bitcoin is being used to tip Uber drivers, a feature which has not been possible so far for the users of the popular service. The new application to tip with Bitcoins is called Vugo and has been created by a former Uber driver James Bellefeuille.

The new Vugo Bitcoin tipping application has already seen more than 3,000 Uber drivers integrating it into their car. The application needs to be loaded onto a tablet which the driver installs on the backseat, allowing satisfied users to tip the driver through Bitcoins.

Maybe Uber would add bitcoin option in future when it's more popular, instant confirmation (possible with LN), and less volatile.

Yea, I doubt if Uber has any official stance on this, but I know they do not accept Bitcoin payment for the service. I tried

If merchants like this keeps enrolling into bitcoin services then bitcoin will have more and more value sooner. So today it is at 4000 USD, if more merchant like this keep coming then that would be more than double. Very interesting services by UBER. Is this only available for tipping services and not for payment of the fare for the trip? I think it would be more Uber integrated Bitcoin in their payment system and allowed bitcoin users to easily pay for the trips with the use of BTC.

I personally love the service of Uber because they provide security and convenience to consumers who don't own cars, like me. Unlike with regular taxis, it may be availed at any time and at your specific location, and is available for groups of people. They really make it a point to cater to customer satisfaction, and they continuously strive to improve their services for the consumers. It's innovations like this that make their customers choose Uber and become loyal to them.

More power to Uber! I hope they continue to provide good service.

That is really amazing thing to know that someone somewhere is trying to push the bitcoin very hard. This implementation will lead to use of bitcoin on the mass scale. Just imagine how popular bitcoin will become when every user will pay in the tips with bitcoin. Plus if someone doesn’t know about it then Uber might just make them aware of it and users then can find out more abut it. Nice steps by Uber. If brands like this kept implementing bitcoin services then that will make healthy bitcoin in the future. I have also read on the forum that Burger King has started accepting bitcoin in the Russian area. Thats really major change in all.

If it just for tipping, ordinary people who dont know about bitcoin wont care about it.
Why would they waste their time to get bitcoin just for the tip. They would rather use their cards for that or maybe just fiat.
It is just a waste of time. It doesnt matter for many Uber customers.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't actually implemented by Uber themselves, but rather by the driver who put up this sign by himself, but still. It shows that bitcoin is really widening its reach in the community. It's not just limited to a bunch of people sitting behind their laptops anymore, it's everywhere and easily seen and accepted.

I still remember back in 2013 the price of bitcoin was pretty high(for back then, of course), but people didn't have any real uses other than using bitcoin online to buy goods(sometimes questionable goods too).

But now, everything has changed. Bitcoin has got a complete ecosystem surrounding it, but we still need more merchants to accept it.

It's great news, that you are able to tip someone for their work with bitcoin.

But tipping is tipping, and is only a part of the etiquette of certain countries. Plus, Uber isn't behind this. Some Uber driver who has some sort of experience in bitcoin came up with this idea, and is taking advantage of bitcoin's instant transactions to receive tips.

It would be nice if Uber supported bitcoin to pay fares. I'm sure that drivers will support this, since paypal is reversible and drivers can indeed be charged back if the customer decides to use a hacked PayPal account or just chargeback for no reason even if the service was of high quality.

Whether the uber itself is the one behind this or a particular uber driver, the thing is the free advertisement which would raise awareness to people considering that a lot prefer uber than regular transportation system. If we use the analogy of an ad-campaign, this type of advertisement will get a lot of impressions.

This is a good alternative transaction if a transport system such as uber is able to receive payments using bitcoin, if this is true will be applied by uber transport payments, then bitcoin will gradually become more popular among the public.

Uber took a very good decision because this company not only existing in one country. In most of the country, we will see uber cabs. I also use this cab regularly, but here we don't have this facility. I think they implement one by one country. And yes this great move from uber to reach bitcoins to more people.

It is a good alternate payment but there is a transaction fee when sending bitcoins. But since people who book taxis are those who have extra money so it is not a problem for using bitcoin as payment. Just an alternative method of paying but if you are paying exact fiat money its should be the main method of paying. The idea is good just like using credit card for paying. It is not bad to implement this idea in paying. Also, it is convenient to rich people.

Pretty cool, but what if it goes beyond just tipping Bitcoin. What if someone develops a blockchain to compete with Uber so it's cheaper for riders and drivers earn more, Bitcoin could be implemented inside it as a form of payment as well.

Bitcoin on Uber, that would be great.  I saw a video wherein a reporter ride an uber and paying bitcoins.  There is a third party involved maybe, bitcoins to third party and then third party to uber.  Anyways, that is a good news considering that little by little bitcoins are being recognized.  And as uber uses bitcoin as a payment, those passengers who are not familiar with bitcoins will be curious and maybe try to search what bitcoin is all about.

That's definitely good news but it's only for tipping, I would be happier if you could use it to pay more often. But then if you are tipping from Bitcoins, it would be expensive tip + the fees. I did rather tip them off via Fiat and in these times when the prices are rising so much, I don't think one would want to tip them via Bitcoins until someone does decides to make his driver day. Honestly those Uber drivers will soon grow rich and own a car, at the rate the prices are rising. Is this service available for Croatia Uber boats? Was planning a trip will try it once.

That's a good move. I think btc's long confirmation time was one of the reasons why it will only apply in tips, not actual fares. No Uber driver wants to spend a whole hour waiting for the completion of payment by the customer. Uber's decision to incorporate bitcoin in their system is however awesome news to many enthusiasts.

that's a good news but whether it is applied in all countries, i think it difficult for this to happen because as we know that some states bitcoin are banned. It certainly would not be easy for uber to expect that many uber service users will use bitcoin for tip the driver or pay the service.

The driver will not wait for anything.
The payment process is on the UBER side so any problems with your cc or debit card will be solved by UBER not by the driver.

But still can't find anything official about the tipping app that was launched a few months ago and bitcoin.

It is a good alternate payment but there is a transaction fee when sending bitcoins. If you think people who drive with a taxi around town are rich people then you really need to dig more on the subject, go out more cause you've got such a biased view on the world it's sad.And no, it's not convenient to really rich people at all, cause that's the moment you don't want to tap twice on things you can solve by one tap.If you really don;t care about money your only words will be "here is my cc card" not let me scan this qr code and see how much tx I pay.

Only those who take cards should have no problem because in that case the client could easily make payment with bitcoin debit card. I see no other way.

Well for giving tips to drivers it is a good thing but not advisable when paying them on their services. I still prefer hard cash money or credit cards(if possible) to pay drivers since bitcoins is not yet supported by most of the uber service givers. And moreover, bitcoins in not yet supported throughout the globe and there were still countries who were not yet accustomed to it.

Actually this step might be a vital factor for Bitcoin decentralization and for acceptance. Because if it can be a mode of transaction on transportation just like Uber or taxi people can prefer on supporting Bitcoin because it can serve as a more faster and reliable way of transaction specifically on paying.

Fees is still not that big an issue because of Segwit implementation. But the restriction would be that people themselves won't be ready to spend Bitcoin (a deflationary currency) than its inflationary counterpart fiat currency for everyday transactions. Bitcoin mainly is considered as an investment asset and not a substitute to everyday currency. So the holders themselves would be restricting Bitcoin's utility.

so this apps will allow bitcoiners to give tips for the drivers who will served a convenient way for them, but it is not the way of paying the service
itself right? let see how this tweets will bring up something for both btc and uber system.
It will be better if it become the mode of transaction on paying rather than just a tip on driver on users. Because if it will become am option for commuter on paying their bills or rides it will serve as a factor for Bitcoin development and decentralization for a better way of transaction and for the progress of its price. But of course support is highly needed on this project where users of Bitcoin must take it as a good option on daily transaction on Uber.

The fares are still paid in fiat or card. Bitcoin is just for tipping and it's optional, at least for now.

They would have done better allowing bitcoin for fares as well. With the transaction fees being what they are, no-one is going to use bitcoin for tipping.

You have a point there. Until the time comes that bitcoin transactions can be confirmed as quick as possible, just like debit cards, then that should be an encouragement for Uber drivers to accept bitcoin and other digital currencies, for that matter. But for now, for areas where traffic is a bitch, the high priority transactions might be the best option for tipping.

Why should it be taken into account? When you buy something via bank transfer do they charge you the sum less the 40$ fee?

All I see in that tweet is a picture of a piece of paper stuck to a window. I can't find any legitimate source that says that Uber accepts bitcoin directly in any way. As always, drivers could accept tips in any currency, but they've recently added the ability to tip directly in the app. No bitcoin, just USD...

Bitcoin to be used to pay for uber is a very good idea since this will help spread the idea of bitcoin, what it is and how to use it to more people since Uber is widely used by a lot of people. Also it is more safe and practical because you readily have "money" to use for payment, rather than worrying if you have enough cash to pay for Uber.

This is great news, happy to sound it. if Uber has received bitcoin as a payment then I can not wait to be one of the passengers and pay with bitcoin afterwards. Uber has been one step ahead from the others. I hope other companies like uber can see this opportunity and make bitcoin as their payment tool.

In truth, I still doubt the need to use this resource for me. Constantly turning around before the eyes of advertising and in any application I see that uber is very popular among users. It may be necessary to listen to new ideas and wishes.

For me it is a great news, uber accepting bitcoins as a payment can be tge first step for bitcoins popularity in the main stream. I'm excited to be one of the passengers of that, it will be pretty convinient to us because sometimes we do not have a cash but only bitcoins because we do not withdraw all of oir profits everyday. I also consider transportation as a form of a daily thing in a specific country because through this we could go to different places allocated on our choices of trips. And we all know Uber is a private transportation system with the help of application where you could actually boom your ride with ease. And it is a part of technology so have a system of transaction using Bitcoin with not be so hard to implement with it. And it can result a good thing to Bitcoin because more people will support and start using Bitcoin in a daily basis.

I've ever heard about it before but not sure if they (re)use this payment method recently.
More business should support bitcoin payment, so people can easily spend their bitcoin and it will spread widely instead of just stay in wallet forever. What left is; scale solution to be implemented in order to minimize bitcoin transactions fees and maximize transaction speed to be confirmed. And that's the way to get more business and adopters to join in this "the best monetary system" instead of just treat it as an investment which cause a lot of fluctuations.

I ama ctually very surprised Uber started accepting Bitcoin already. They have been slow to introduce "new" payment ideas... not in this case obviously.

No they don't accept it. It's an optional tipping feature.

well, This will make it easier for uber users.
As opposed to uber drivers will have more advantage especially with the price of bitcoin now that continue to rise, this will give a good impact for them, they can also invest in the bitcoin they earn

Not when the coins transferred through the 3rd party are immediately exchanged to usd ;).

Wow this is great! :D But how about the transfer fee? Is it took into account?

Why should it be taken into account? When you buy something via bank transfer do they charge you the sum less the 40$ fee?
Of course nobody cares how much fee you pay. You want to tip, it's all your problem and your money.

And the bad news is that the fees are again creeping higher and higher.

Thats what im onto, bitcoin tipping is the first stage then comes paying with it.. they should took it into account as bitcoin fee will sire risen again well maybe,

If tipping in BTC goes well for Uber, I can possibly see they implementing it as a payment method for next year.

This really shows the importance of BTC and how it has been increasing over the years and its contribution to society.

If this will happen more and more people will joining in bitcoins community and the price of bitcoins will be more expensive than ever 10.000$ per bitcoin next year whoa this is so exciting bitcoins is the best of all best.

Totally agreed sir.

If BTC reaches $5k this year I am totally sure it will reach that value next year. Let's hope for the best.

This huge great wave of adoption will just bring great things to not just digital, but daily commerce too - as seen on Uber.

This is interesting for us who uses bitcoin here. Bitcoin is ganing more attention so that means More attention + More demand = Higher price of bitcoin on the market because of the demand for thoes who wants to use it. but, im thinking that the transaction would be worst if bitcoin hits the price range of 8,000+ Usd. it's kinda like you're going to tip the driver for 0.0005Btc then the transaction fee would go up to 0.001.

so this apps will allow bitcoiners to give tips for the drivers who will served a convenient way for them, but it is not the way of paying the service

Well,as a matter of fact ,it is not far for Uber customers to use Bitcoin processes in transfering funds or paying bills. It will even speed up transactions and it is very bemeficial for customers. I agree that Uber must support this campaign.

I'm pretty sure that Uber isn't the company behind this. It is only one single driver that is accepting bitcoin as tip.

As you said, obviously being able to tip in bitcoin is good. But what would be infinitely better would be to have an actual payment method as bitcoin on the uber app itself, so you can pay for rides directly with bitcoin.

But i'd take that too - better than nothing. Plus, even though this driver might not represent the majority of uber drivers, he could influence other drivers into accepting bitcoin tips as well, or even potentially let the customer pay in bitcoin directly(might be violating tos of uber though).

Bitcoint on uber sounds good. Since the uber is already using online system, bitcoin is good for them. But not all uber drivers uses bitcoins. That was confirmed a long time ago. Anyone anywhere can choose to accept tips in bitcoin but that doesn't mean the company is now accepting it. They should though. I don't see how there would be a downside to them other than price volatility.

Why did uber and grab banned in your country? I don't think that there is a valid reason for the government in the Philippines to ban uber and grab because in my country, a lot of people are using it as an alternative transportation which is more secure and the most comfortable to ride for a transportation because it is private and easy to manage.

It would be great if Uber or Grab would allow payments in bitcoin. And with this, bitcoin will become popular to the masses as we all know that people who avail of Uber and Grab are ordinary people on the street. So it this company suddenly announces that they will accept bitcoin, ordinary riders then will try to search what is bitcoin and probably will buy it to used as mode of payment the next time they used this riding services.

But honestly, some did not know what bitcoin is, becaus I asked some.drivers. Then I just use their fiat money for my fare which is fair enough for our both ends.

So it this company suddenly announces that they will accept bitcoin, ordinary riders then will try to search what is bitcoin and probably will buy it to used as mode of payment the next time they used this riding services.
yes indeed, we seems like we are using master card with that kind of payment. its so nice if they allow it and consider it as one of the payment methods in private transportation like uber or grab. it will also helps bitcoin to become more in demand than before.

If this is true then I guess its a good idea since It will be convenient for both parties. However, since not everybody knows  anything about bitcoin nor have any bitcoin accounts, i guess that part right there will be one of its downside although we can always educate the rest of the community. This is a good way to introduce bitcoin to the rest of the world and i just hope
Most of them will accept bitcoin openly.

How is it working? Are you having your BTC on you own wallet or you have to fund your account? The 2nd option is centralized but it will help to avoid  tranaction fee. No one would like to tip extra $ to miners (in future it could become like a half of the tip amount).

This is the best way to promote bitcoin, not with expensive ads but by use cases, imagine if every uber driver asked, how are you going to pay, cash, credit or bitcoin? Suddenly many millions of people will find themselves exposed to tis new currency they did not know about.

I am also happy that finally bitcoin is making its way into routine payments. It is definitely a mean of ease for all Bitcoin holders. Now, they don't need to count money while paying or wait for the change. I am damn sure, in future more companies and brands will be accepting bitcoins as a payment. Here the same. Some cities of my country made Uber forbidden to please the cabby class, but where I live there isn't a service like this. It's indeed a good news, but I don't think it will happen so fast for all the places. Also, even Uber drivers  don't give importance to this new payment method because they don't know what Bitcoin is, many of them were ordinary unemployed withtout knowledge about technology news.

Realistically, it can't fit with anything at this point because simply put - transactions are too slow.

When restaurants, for example, get on board with it the only option will be to accept 0 confirmation transactions. It isn't a big deal, but compare to debit/credit it is severely lacking in convenience.

I think this is a good idea. Uber has no issue on other things and they provide good service and maybe bitcoin is a good partnership of this company since they can have a better and more comfortable service throughout the years. The question is other people won't use bitcoin especially in my country. Is they a swipe method for bitcoin? Just in case there is. It would be the fastest way when transportation matter.

That's a good news since Uber in the Philippines is very popular. Actually it is more popular than the traditional taxi. If they are going to accept bitcoin, much better. It is true that the system of Uber on a specific country is a good thing to start on accepting bitcoin as a form of payment in transaction because it is much easier to deal with tracked when it come to technology base application. So if you are prefer to travel on other countries Bitcoin can serve as a universal currency which is a form of crypto-currency that can be used in traveling specifically on Uber vehicles. It is also a good thing for Bitcoin because when it happens it can result for further development of Bitcoin brought by the daily transactions of the commuters.

Uber is suffering the same problems as bitcoin, uber is revolutionary and now some countries put some barriers and made uber illegal, I think the same is going to happen to bitcoin but there are many countries that have realized the great opportunity both of these technologies bring and are going to adopt them very fast.

Or maybe they implement something like that can store Money in there Uber accounts through Bitcoins so the users can use that money whenever they want.

I have one doubt how the uber will collect Bitcoins for our trip, whey because the Bitcoin price is never stable at one rate. It keeps on varying in the high margin. Sometimes when we start our trip, the price is stable, but suddenly it will come down or increased means how it will profit for Uber and user. But this is good advertisement or bitcoins.

Uber's has got a great mind at marketing strategies and they might have plans in bitcoin for the accumulated tips.

I won't be surprised at one day they will make it available for paying there services not just for tipping. And it would be huge move, Is uber be one big player someday in crypto currency, would love to find out soon.

correct me if i'm wrong but from what i understand on that tweet. bitcoin is only available on tipping drivers via app. this is great for awareness and circulation but people who tip

cheap amounts will not be able to use bitcoin because dust payments are highly discouraged as most likely you will be paying a higher miner fee than the actual amount although

its great with decent amounts.

It's good since most Uber users are from Philippines, they'll know more about bitcoin by asking Uber customer support of the taxi drivers who knows bitcoin. I hope many people will know more about this bitcoin thing right now.

Uber is very rapidly growing in the Asian region. Nowadays almost every city has uber service. So this is a new innovation, making transport payments with bitcoin a great start. The use of uber in daily tempo can certainly raise the prestige of bitcoin in all sectors.

Because Uber is very suitable for me and mostly i am using it to go to office and other places then i like to pay the Uber in bitcoin.

Well, I agree that its a good news and its quite convinient to people who use uber. In addition to that, if they bitcoin as a payment they can pay their bills easily and it will help those driver who really want to gain income. I also agree that it will help to promote bitcoin. Lastly, I hope many transport vehicle will accept bitcoin in the future.

It would be much better if ibwr uses it's own coin. Why is Bitcoin when you can have your entire system with rewards included on their own coin. Those that do not use Uber can buy coins as an investment so it will be like spending shares. That's how altcoins remind me. They remind me of shares or assets. It works well and it's Intelligent and I can see this happening in all kinds of sectors bringing in all kinds of money from all over which creates and generates profit for people so we don't have to work a job.

this is brand new idea, that really good sir. so you just need to send the bitcoin and uber will distribute itself.
so we can use bitcoin also tipping the driver, and make use of bitcoin more in the community. helping much more people
Yes it will facilitate us a lot. We will not have any worries to pay them. It will not only facilitate us but also the uber. Because we will be able to pay by sitting in home. But if we don’t pay there would be a way through which uber will be able to cut off the payment by themselves from the users account. And not only this the drivers will also be facilitated and other workers also that they will get paid safely.

Indeed, this is a great thing for Bitcoin users who will benefit on this a lot since this will ease their transportation experience even more using UBER. But I guess this will be implemented not as  soon as other countries compare to ours here in the Philippines because currently UBER is having a problem with taking seriously the policies here in the Philippines, just saying. But all in all, this is a great step towards keeping up with the digital world we have right now.

it's good news, but a little disappointing for those who wanted more (for example, bitcoin being used directly to pay for rides, even if indirectly through a platforms exchanging BTC to USD directly like BitPay),

Not a bad thing at all for it to be added to the tipping system though, and if the overall use is high, I'm sure Uber would consider adding it completely to the platform.

Why not? I mean this is a good idea to use bitcoins in transactions with uber. It will surely make the ride faster and easier. Paying by bitcoins is one big efficiency to both the consumer and the business person involved in this kind of setup. It is very good to have this kind of innovation since bitcoin is now expanding it’s capability to control other exchange currencies.

But then how much will a person tip? 0.005 btc/20 $ for any trip, more than that or less? I don't think it's a good idea right now, fees on bitcoin are too high now especially for tipping eg. $5 tip will cost $2-5 of transaction fees. I would suggest that bitcoin developer solve the scaling problem and the increase of block size (which means more transactions per block rather and possible lower fees) then bitcoin would be the perfect choice for tipping taxis and bartender  ;D

it can't be done bitcoin for uber. Uber should apply for regulatory purpose as payment system for the taxes.
Of course it can be done, if the big executives in charge of uber want it to happen it will happen they will just need to declare all the bitcoin they got from their operations and then pay taxes on that if they cash out immediately or pay taxes later if they decide to hold.

It is. Having more ways and means of payment is good because Uber users will be able to pay in the most convenient way they want. In fact, maybe taxis can also apply this in order to have more passengers. However, in my country, Uber was banned because of some legal issues. The people are still hoping that it will come back. But for the mean time, many are relying on Grab which is the same concept with Uber. What is good now is that it is being worked out by Uber in our country to still come back and continue to serve

Yes, it is a good news for the bitcoins as it will help to grow the community. I am sure that, one day more service providers will start accepting the bitcoins as the mode of transaction. Uber has their presence in all over the world, this step will help to spread the information & awareness regarding bitcoins. Its a win win situation for the bitcoin community.

They are just one amongst million investors so it needs lot of time and patience for bitcoin community to celebrate in real. Uber has made a good move no doubt about it but I'm concern about other big people like, Walmart, American mall, Aldi and etc kind of food and supply chain. They should be the one who should make implementing of bitcoin payment system. They can bring the revolution because they have the capability. Anyway hands up for the uber too as they have taken the initiative at least.

Because an uber driver does not have all the safety equipment that taxis must have.

Another example how politics will do everything they can to stop development.

I as a citizen am perfectly fine in the head to chose an uber or a taxi if i want more safety. In the end, we all die if a car crashes with 100 km/h, so who cares?

Actually it is non sense. If I am one regular person who uses fiat all the time why would apply for a wallet account just so I could give a tip to my Uber driver.
Why dont I just hand the cash and that's it. A hell of steps is needed just so I could get a wallet and some confirmations. What else? I would need to find a establishment that sells bitcoin directly to the website wallet site. What else? The fees. What else? Bitcoin price can go down anytime and my money is in risk.
It is not a good idea. Why not just directly use it as a payment for Uber then add more for tips. Why just a tip?

Why don't you recommend it?

The main issue is slow transactions and its volatility. But if they first ask people to deposit into their wallet before using then slow transaction issue will be solved. It is like some other wallets you need load first before using. But they may not do it because of its high volatility.

Because most of the time, we need to convert it to real money which is pesos to buy and pay bills. But if bitcoins can already spend without being converted, then it would be a great thing for us. Also, it's popularity would increase in a high rate due to an additional way to pay money in terms of bitcoins.

We also use our bitcoin paid for various things. Paying for the daily needs of people. If this happens it is definitely a big change and rapid development. Its amazing to know that Bitcoin is been made one of the payment gateway for transportation technology like Uber  :D . I think Bitcoin can fit with anything. Just what you need to do is that you will have to make right scheme to use it and Uber is an amazing medium to make people more aware of bitcoin. In this way Uber will also get a lot of benefit. Uber is already highly popular all over the world and with bitcoin it can be more. And it will also make the payment system easier.

Meanwhile, bitcoin just got integrated with Uber for tipping drivers. Isn't that a good news?

I have never heared about this news here in our country but I will check it myself and confirm in on uber as I always using their service here in our country.
That's the point. Uber accepted bitcoins as a payment for its services a long time ago but not people of all the countries are able to avail this facility. I don't know what the main problem is. Are taxi drivers not aware of bitcoins or the customers have not heard this news yet ?

I think it is not educated by the uber owner to accept and use bitcoin as a medium of exchange. maybe if the owner already understand about the function bitcoin, certainly will be educated to all its drivers

Wow this is a great news for uber users and for uber drivers. Here in the philippines most commuters uses uber as there daily commute vehicle because there is no toxic in the roads and mostly they are comfortable than a taxi. This maybe a great idea so that other people know bitcoin and what is bitcoin I mean this is another stepping stone for the philippines to introduce bitcoin in the city.

As far as i know Uber in the Philippines has stopped its service because of some sanctions made by government but well talking about Uber recieving on bitcoin payments then this thing would really be an advantage on those commuters who have known about bitcoin because this thing would really be a big convenience to them theres no need on cash on paying up the fare.

Title: Re: Bitcoin on Uber

this is a good idea, but for uber providers and managers, this will be very inconvenient and troublesome, because the bitcoin prices are so volatile that it is difficult to determine the uber drag for the passengers
not necessarily, there are multiple services out there that will accept a bitcoin payment on behalf of the merchant, and immediately convert that amount into whatever fiat currency they use in exchange for a small fee. not exactly sure what it was, but i do recall seeing that somewhere here some time back. dont take my word for it, but i think coinbase offers something similar for bitcoin accepting merchants as well (i only remember reading a mention of it somewhere, i might be totally wrong).
that aside, bitcoin integration on such payments can be an incredible convenience for both the customer and the uber driver; if we can assume that the transactions for these are irreversible, then there's a guarantee that the driver will receive their payment. there's no hassle of counting out change, zero worries about a credit card charge being declined, etc. it provides security for them. on the other side, all the customer might have to do is scan the QR code with their smartphone (assuming their smartphone bitcoin wallet is capable of this, it should be anyways) and pay in a matter of seconds.

that's good news, because Uber in the Philippines is soaring. Actually this is more soaring than traditional taxis. If they want to accept bitcoin, much better. But transaction costs plus meter tariff, is not that a bit expensive? However, this is a good help for bitcoin as this will promote more bitcoin. And hopefully the activities will be part of the human for their daily life. Good work Uber.

You're paying Uber Fee plus transaction fee.  Isn't its become expensive ?. and how you deal with the confirmation time as I dont think uber driver or the passenger can wait 15 to 30 mins for transaction to be confirmed.

Yes, fees are probably a big issue yet. To make it work you would need to pay an expensive fee to complete the transaction in few minutes, otherwise the Uber driver could reject your Bitcoin paying method, there are sites which can help you to find what is the most adviced fee to pay on the respective moment. Debit cards are still better for this in my opinion (BTC debit cards or fiat debit cards).

itself right? let see how this tweets will bring up something for both btc and uber system.

I think it is not a good idea, well before you are going to send money through lke this system you must use your gadget specifically your smartphones right? I think it is nt a good idea in the sense it may tempt people inside that uber or the driver itself , crimes may start , so I think when into like this kind of transaction paper money is a best way to pay, its easy as giving a paper then go unlike paying using bitcoin.

The bolded part got me laughing but its actually possible though. Lets all wait and see on how the promoters and developers want to make that a reality maybe one day, I can get to ride in one and pay with crypto.

I rode with Uber some days back here in my country and the option to pay is either through cash or direct debit from the back account but thats not the maximum options as the driver who might be known to you might ended up not collecting money and collect something else of value.

And thats where bitcoin comes in for people in countries like mine where government have not come out fully to support bitcoin, or when Uber has not integrated bitcoin into their activities. What I need to do is just to ask my driver if he is aware of bitcoin and open to receiving it as payment if yes, then the issue has been solved without any controversy.

If the uber compaby will accept bitcoins as a mode of payment fir me that would be a great idea. Because it is less hassle for us to pay for the fare to the uber drivers.

That's true that in the Philippines its popular to ride in Uber. Especially during rush hour its fast no hazard. Its a great news to the people in the Philippines if they accept bitcoin, because most of people already earn and invest in bitcoin, and this can be a good opportunity and good chance. It cant difficult when to pay for the Uber because there is an internet connection. Its good idea of Uber and it will be success. We hoping that bitcoin has become more popular through it.

Great news! Uber drivers would be forced to get a bitcoin wallet. Thus, promoting the cryptocurrency in the transport sector. Drivers can’t complain they got paid by an unknown to them currency because it’s just a tip.

Do you think Uber in philippines can easily adopt with this new changes? Im sure it will take time to implement it or worst it will not implement in our country. I also hope that there will be no very high difference in converting fees from btc to php.

Uber's had trouble with regulation in many countries and states. Bitcoin can help them operate better in these areas. If people convert fiat to bitcoin for spending, it's just them using it as a currency and not investing. I love this use case, it's an example of why bitcoin is so promising and such a good investment in the first place!

That's a great news but we can see this as a kind of trial by the giant companies to test the utility value of cryptocurrencies for their financial infrastructure. There are some other factors too,

Pro-Bitcoin Expedia CEO Picked to Run Uber (https://news.bitcoin.com/pro-bitcoin-expedia-ceo-picked-to-run-uber/).

However, the day is not far away when we will be able to use Bitcoins to actually pay the bills with it, without converting it into the fiat currencies. At this point, we must appreciate such tests which are in the beta stage and has a tremendous scope in the future.

I hope bitcoin is soon legalized by some countries that still prohibit it, by relieving bitcoin then more will follow Uber step.

wow. for me it's a good news. who would have thought that bitcoin can now be used in uber. I hope it can be used to Grab too.haha.it will be convenient for me and for most people because we prefer uber than a public transport. it made us feel better and safer. Now, if we can really use bitcoin in uber, we don't have to bring extra cash or if we forget to bring cash, we can use bitcoin to pay the fare.

Bitcoin on uber would be one of the most good idea may someone implement. Lets talk about first about bitcoin as medium of payment to any transaction. First major benefit is the conveniency, it would be too way easy to pay to a some stuff or transaction virtualy because the world today surrounds by technology relating it to bitcoin on uber, it is indeed a wise choice for the company to implement this thing as their mode of payment since the mechanics to use uber does need technology so if it could be use to pay they will be ensure that they will be paid right down the track but the down side of it is that bitcoin value is unstable.

It is an awesome news, because many will be curious about Bitcoin. Uber using Bitcoin as a medium of paying money will make uninformed people curious. Many companies will also copy the idea of Uber and Bitcoin will be more popular because of that.

Meanwhile, bitcoin just got integrated with Uber for tipping drivers. Isn't that a good news?

With the transaction fees we have you think is worthy ? You would be tipping more than the entire trip

Atm it depends how fast you want the transaction :) Also scaling will be done in 2018 to sort the transaction issues

Excellent news.. :D They are also accepting Bitcoin. The day is not so far when the whole world don't have any way to use it.It is easy you know. You don't have to carry cash for card or something like that, you just bring your mobile phone with you and that's all. Actually we have to have the tendency to accept technology.Technology always helps us and makes our life more comfortable.

Well apparently Uber will also be partnering with Electroneum (ETN). This should be announced in January 2018. But it is just a rumour, we will see.

This is a very nice idea if they are going to create a payment method for uber that will allow people to pay bitcoins for their car fare, It will be a very big help and easier, faster transactions for everyone.

Yes, very big possibility to become reality that the bitcoin can be used, what they need to do is to adopt the system and design the payment method like any other electronic payments the bitcoin also really fit that system.

so this apps will allow bitcoiners to give tips for the drivers who will served a convenient way for them, but it is not the way of paying the service
itself right? let see how this tweets will bring up something for both btc and uber system.
If it can give tips to Uber driver then i dont understand why can’t they pay also bitcoin as their fare? Since uber accepts only credit/visa card i think because that is how how they require their passengers to pay them in my place. That would be a goid thing then if they accept bitcoin as payment and not only tips.

Hi there nappoleon! That is a great idea, I just hope that the transaction fee to transfer the crypto from your wallet the Uber driver wallet is free or in a very minimal rate. Would it be nice if the Uber app it self have a feature to add tip from the driver. Or any excess from the rate will automatically be tally and count as tip, thus Uber raiders can view back their total tip given in all of their trips. Additionally, it could be better if we could add funds to Uber app through cryptocurrency.  ;)

Bitcoin on Uber isn't really a good choice for me apart from that the fees are sometimes very high (sometimes costs more than the ride itself ) , Uber car owners will have hard time having their money and will be obligated to turn into fiat in order to buy gas for their cars which will eventually make them lose more money when converting their bitcoins to fiat in fees and they'll be just loosing time and money to do all of this .

I think using bitcoin isn't that kind of appropriate and ideal to use for Uber. How about, supposed I'm a uber driver and the 10k I earned in a week might drop to 5k in just days if I forgot to convert it to peso. Due to its bipolar nature , bitcoin isn't that ideal to use. You'll never know what might happen in the next few days.
