Amagi Metals has been accepting Bitcoin for months now on gold, silver, and copper, just fyi.  You're not the first, unless you define full service differently.  There's also Coinabul.

That said, competition in this space is always welcome!

A few thoughts/comments from a quick browse of the site:

- Item descriptions are basically a repeat of the title, not an actual description.  "Morgan & Peace Dollars" is the title repeated in the description section - what years are you shipping, what condition, etc?
- Your blog has nothing on it.
- Why is a silver libertad coin 2,589.44?  Am I missing something really, really important about this, perhaps it being a box of 100?
- Silver Canadian Maple Box (500): $1,392,640.00  Huh?
- $17 flat shipping for any order under $5000?  Really?
- Your "About Us" page has basically no details.  Where are you located? Do you have a customer service #?
- "International Shipping: Detailed information goes here."  Uh huh.
- For a bitcoin focused dealer, you don't show prices in bitcoin.  Nor do you show the total in bitcoin until the checkout page.
- Literally the only references to "agora commodities" I find on Google are your store and this thread.

You only registered a company domain for a year?  Such great faith in your operations.

Honestly, you come across as a scam operation.  I'm not saying you are or aren't, but it /looks and feels/ like a scam.  You don't have any reversible payment methods supported, you have a brand new domain and at least claim to have a massive amount of metal in stock, prices are somewhat creative, and for being a bitcoin-centered merchant, you don't show prices in bitcoin.  You also make a claim to be the "first," which is something you very clearly aren't.

I'm sorry, I'm not going to be spending any money with you right now.  I'll let someone else take that risk.

Amagi Metals is great! I think they have the trust and confidence of the community of Bitcoin which is well deserved. One of the comments that members have posted about them is that they want to see them sell the platinum group metals which you will see that I and every other traditional bullion dealer offer. Coinabul and Bitcoincommodities also do not offer metals from this group.

The morgan & peace dollars are in AU condition and are not key dates. Though you can contact us if you wish to request a certain grade and year.

Good to know.  A bit of history on the site may be worth considering, since right now it appears to be a brand new retailer coming from nothing, which does not lead to any level of trust due to the number of very similar scam sites that have been making their rounds for several years.

Do you actually have inventory in stock, or are you obtaining it as needed with orders placed?  And what is the expected "time to ship" after an order has been placed?

I do have products in stock but it changes rapidly. Especially on a drop like today. For instance, I just received silver maple leaves last week after a 6 weeks delay. They are now sold out and there will be six more weeks till delivery. I will always fill the order though. Even if it takes a bit.

I have ordered from Joseph at least five times and so have a few of my friends.  He is SOLID to deal with and very professional.  His e-mails and communication via phone is always prompt.  I can not say enough good things about the business he does trading metals for BTC.  Every ounce of gold or silver I have gotten from him has been exactly as ordered.

Status on stock availability might be another good addition to the product descriptions. I know some times I won't solicit dealers because of the absence of this information.

We understand about stock availability but the supply is changing so rapidly it is not a possibility right now. When metal prices stabilize then our system will reflect an accurate inventory. You can always call or send us an email before you order and we can let you know if the product is live or delayed.

When ordering it is important that you stick to the .999 products as Canada does not charge a tax on bullion minted to this refining standard. Anything less and you would be required to pay a 13% tax.

We have shipped to Canada. We ship all international orders with USPS registered mail and have never had an issue when items are shipped with this service.

Amagi Metals claims to be cheaper than you guys, which they're not on many products. One example I can bring up right now are 1oz Canadian Maples - Amagi price $1,341.04, your price $1,338.38. This is great!

But would you price match and/or beat other bullion dealers' prices if I was to find something I need cheaper but still wanted to do business with you?

Did you calculate in the flat $17 shipping Agora charges?

I made a purchase susbtantial enough to not worry about shipping costs. I also stay away from places that sell silver in 1 gram quantities. It doesn't make sense to me.

You should get 1g Silver nuggets or bars

I really don't need samples of silver. Especially at robbing prices when you calculate their price per oz.  ;)

Have you considered Constitutional 90% Silver (http://agoracommodities.com/product/10-90-junk-silver-mixed/) ? You pay a significant amount less than you do when you buy fractional or 1 gram silver. If you do the math, dealers are selling the fractional and 1 gram silver products at anywhere from 70-100% over spot!

Unless you are looking for a value outside of the raw precious metal like numismatics, pay the lowest premiums you can for your bullion. They will only ever be worth market value so why pay insane premiums above market value up front?

I just got my order from agora!  I ordered this on July 10th and it arrived today the 12th.  This guy beat my amazon order placed the same day.  I have sent several emails with questions and concerns and all have been answered the same day.  If this type of service can continue he's going to take a lot of business from amagi.  My next order will be some platinum!  Keep up the good work agora.

My second order arrived today, I love Saturday deliveries.  My second transaction was just as quick and smooth as the first, 2 days from the time of order.  It does help we live one state away for delivery times.  :)  But it looks like if he has it in stock it goes out the day I have ordered.  The Items I have requested that are not in stock have minimal wait times, like just a few days.  As promised I will be ordering some platinum on Monday.  Thanks again Agora.

Currently everything is marked free. The only downside I see is that reaching $5000 for free shipping is going to be quite difficult.

If customer privacy were your highest priority, why did you decide to include the java widgets for all the social media sites on your home page?
Did your technologist not inform you that everyone that browses to your home page is then tracked by these groups which all report to the US NSA et al?

Encrypted email is a great idea though, thank you for that.

If you really want your customers and friends to work with social media for you, you can just use a simple link rather than the java widgets.  That way those who want to can hop over, but we are all not just automatically and non-consensually reported as browsing your site just by your use of them.

The innocent may not be up to the latest with tor and java script disabling.    :)

We ship Bitcoin purchases the same day because payment is instant and there is no possibility of charge backs 8) Wire transfers too but even those take longer than BTC transactions. This of course depends on the time of day that the order is received. Generally orders received after 12pm MST will ship the next day.

Just a question about a worst case scenario in which an order is not received through no fault of the buyer.  (stolen, lost, etc.)  If my order (shipped via USPS non-registered mail) doesn't show up in a reasonable amount of time, what happens?  Is the buyer basically SOL?  Or is there a certain time frame in which one can expect either a refund or re-shipment of the order (like maybe two months or so)?

I asked Amagi Metals this a few months ago, and they sort of gave me the runaround on this.  It seems to be a thorny issue. I couldn't find any info on this subject on the Agora Commodities website.

I guess to answer my own question--if it isn't insured by either party, the buyer is screwed--but was wondering what your answer is on this.

Also, do you only accept orders (paid with btc) for which you actually have items in stock?

(Also, all the above is in reference to a possible gold order, just to clarify things a bit)

Sorry for the late reply.

Amagi's shipping page is informative and pretty standard industry wise though I can see how it is not really addressing your issue.

The buyer is not SOL provided that the package never showed up do to a fault with the shipping. For instance if the carrier can not show that an item was delivered then you are entitled to a settlement. Most companies reserve the right to settle with you in either the metals or the USD value. If the sender can show that the product was delivered to the address that you gave then you may not be entitled to any compensation.

The sender will have to get a confirmation from the carrier that the package was lost. Once that happens you should be compensated. If you are getting the run around it might be because the company does not have the liquidity to settle with you without having been paid by their insurance company. 

There are ways to contact the local post office to get a better idea on the whereabouts of a package than you can find from their website.

How do you set your bitcoin price?  Is it just set once a day?  It doesn't seem to float against the exchange rate.  Not complaining, just want to know why the price hasn't changed between today and yesterday.

We use Bitpay's API since they are the ones that handle our BTC payments. If you ever like the rate on Coinbase more we can send you an invoice to pay to from them  ;) Just email, call, or live chat with us to let us know.

I think there's something wrong on your end. Bitpay price is now 560.  The prices displayed are still the same as yesterday.  Same when I add them to my cart.  Will I get the real bitpay price when I actually check out or will it be the price shown in the cart?

Graded and sealed is better than "still in original packing", IMHO :)

It's debatable if newer mint coins need to be graded at all. Some people just break the slabs. Again wasn't complaining, just thought I should mention that it came different than specified. Btw it was NGC graded.

I took one of the coins I got from them to a local dealer and asked if they had a test.  The dealer said that he'd never seen a gold coin weigh exactly the correct amount if it were counterfeit. In other words - only the real coin weighed exactly the correct amount (and presumably looked legit.)  So that's all he did to test it... just weigh it.

(Yes, he said it was real -- paid me cash for it.)

Just find a local coin shop with an xray spectrometer gadget. It pings the coin with a blast of energy and tells you exactly what is in it. Quick, easy, and awesome.

If anyone can show that fake 1oz gold coins with the correct size and weight exist, I would be very curious to hear about it.  It is my understanding that fakes are only a problem in 10oz+ bars.

Your package shipped weighing 2lbs 4oz when it was scanned in at the PO. Three 10 oz bars weigh just over 2 lbs.

I just received my silver order last night. I can confirm Agora Commodities is one of the best, if not the best, to buy precious metals from via BTC. I did have to contact Joseph since the wrong tracking number was added to the notes, but he quickly responded with his apologies and the correct tracking number. The packaging itself was a priority 2-day mail box with packing peanuts and the silver bullion was individually plastic wrapped. If there was a way to add more than $50 worth of insurance to the shipment I would be at a bit more ease, but all in all, I will surely use Agora Commodities again in the future!  :)

$50 Insurance is just what USPS provides. We have our own insurance.

We haven't any problems with theft of international orders. Just customs.

While we are on the issue we should note that all import duties are the responsibility of the buyer.

We don't live in a world free of tyranny unfortunately.   :-\

Mail theft is rare but it does happen like we said.

Especially this time of year. The post office hires a bunch of temps to handle their holiday shipping.

This is also why as a rule we generally only ship Mon-Thurs. That way packages don't ever sit. We were trying to catch up on all our shipping from Thanksgiving :-\

We have never charged a % difference for BTC. We had to disable the BTC convertor because our code was affected by some recent updates.  You can browse in USD and the conversion will be correct at checkout ;)

During the Sept 24 secret shopper test purchase, there was an error in the shopping cart that increased the shipping charge when paying in bitcoin.

Quite some time after the purchase, I received an unexpected email from the owner of Agora Commodities, Joseph Castillo. He apologized for the shipping overcharge and offered to send me a free silver coin to compensate. What he sent was surprising, and quite beautiful, the Bitcoin Specie Silver Coin. I have included a nice scan of the coin.

BTW, the original order for one American Silver Eagle coin was delivered within 3 business days! So I'm pretty happy about this transaction, despite the shopping cart glitch.

A couple of months ago I decided to divest myself of some of my holdings and convert to something a bit more liquid. I finally decided to buy gold with Bitcoin and set out to find the best vendor to achieve that goal.

A few searches led me back to Bitcointalk.org, where I’d been lurking for quite some time. Agora Commodities popped up as a dealer who was willing to accept payment of Bitcoin for precious metals. With many favorable forum posts praising Agora, I decided to begin the first of several buys with them. I figured that if Joseph and company did well by me, I’d use Agora for the rest of my Bitcoin conversions to gold. My initial order was for seven ounces of gold: BTC16.01 equating to around $10,000. I placed my first order on the morning of Wednesday, February 19th.

A mixed order
I chose to order a pretty eclectic mix of bullion. Specifically, my seven-ounce order consisted of:

• 5x 1/10 ounce Gold American Eagles
• 2x 1/4 ounce Gold American Eagles
• 2x 1/2 ounce Gold American Eagles
• 5x 1 ounce Gold American Buffalos

This is a tall order to fill, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see if Agora could handle it, regardless of order complexity.

Promises, promises
So, even though I knew it might take a while to ship, I was fine with waiting a reasonable amount of time for the gold. But I wasn't fine with hearing over and over that the order was "about to ship...," but didn't. Finally, after several delays and promises, I received the gold almost three weeks after placing the order. To be honest, it took a little longer than I expected it to take. But at least I got it.

Fake? Fake.
Since we're talking about mail-order bullion here, I thought it wise to have the gold tested for genuineness. Turns out, two of the coins were fake. Yes, fake.

The two 1/2 once American Eagles both failed the Fisch test, which assesses the diameter, the thickness, and the weight of a coin. If a coin is fake, at least one of those dimensions will be incorrect. The coins are the correct weight, but their thickness and diameters are greater than normal, indicating that at least some of the metal in the coins is a bit less dense than gold. My experts thought they might have tungsten centers, which would explain their larger dimensions.

And Agora dealt with it, right?
Wrong. Once we were sure the coins were fake, I contacted Agora through the website to ask how to exchange the two bad coins for the real thing. And the response from Agora? Nothing. Zilch. No response, no acknowledgement, no plan for how I might get replacements.

I'm not sure how to proceed from here. I've got $1400+ in fake bullion no one will take. I might be able to recover some of the gold for its melt value (assuming there is any gold there), but that's about the only thing I can think to do. I'd welcome suggestions from anyone in the forum, since I don't seem to be getting anything more out of Joseph or Agora Commodities. Anyone have any ideas?

Wow, that's a serious charge.  Were they loose or slabbed?  I ordered a 1/2 oz Eagle a little while ago but it was slabbed; I may have to crack it open to be sure.

I'm skeptical to believe his post for a few reasons:

All my orders, in a similar range to 10k were shipped much faster than 3 weeks.

I went to place an order that came to $793.90.  BitPay is currently at 582.27/BTC but I was prompted to send 1.3798 which is 803.41.  Is this ten extra dollars a bitcoin fee?  I didn't see this in the price breakdown...  Is there a percentage of the total which is charged for using bitcoin?

it's because bitpay is using different rate to the one you're using, blockchain.info maybe? idk

I don't think so, because I was using bitpay's rate...  I suspects its a bitcoin fee.  Whether its initiated on Agora's side or bitpay's side I don't know, and dont really care.  It's not an unreasonable fee, but it should be spelled out in the transaction not just mysteriously applied at the end.

I have ordered from the "other" big bitcoin metals seller here often and I always check the bitPay request against the bitPay exchange rate and it always matches up (within less than a dollar).

I will try another order soon and I will message you after paying if I get the same problem.  It would be nice if the exchange rate was located on the request to send BTC prompt...  I assume there is a way for you to look at bitPay's past prices to double check?

However, we're thinking of putting it at the bottom of the browser window, and have it scroll as you scroll, so it's always stickied. We thought it would save you scrolling up to see the prices if you're looking at a product at the bottom of the page or with the ticker out of sight. What do you think??

Actually, don't do the auto scrolling ticker.  Anything that auto scrolls on the website is a user interface design flaw.  Keep them at the top.

While we do retain our customers' shipping information, but we will never disclose any private information beyond certain IRS reporting policies such as 1099-B and 8300 forms. Even then, our customers’ information will remain strictly confidential between Veldt Gold and the IRS. At no point will any third parties have access to this information. We would advise you to refer to your tax specialist about any tax liabilities.

However, they aren't offering both sides of the bullion transaction - like buying your gold for Bitcoin, which is essential. Their interest in Bitcoin seems to be purely profit, as Bitcoin is just another market, as opposed to a philosophy.

And as for payment by BTC of under $3,000 there are no reporting requirements for an amount like that.

Gold counterfeiting looks like it will be a continuing problem that will only get worse in the coming years. 

Yes, careful examination (of the CertiCard, weight & shape of the bar, dimensions, color, etc.) will likely make it fairly easy to spot fakes.

Gold's density makes it hard for counterfeiters.  Only tungsten is very close to gold in density, but tungsten is hard to work with (high melting point and the metal is very hard).  Tungsten can be detected using ultrasound measuring devices (sound travels at much higher speed through tungsten).

Another order from Veldt Gold has arrived OK.  All good.  I think this was my third order, all three have gone well.

This time I paid by check, which meant a longer delivery time than before (Veldt waits for the check to go through).  But after the check did go through, delivery only took two days, nice shipping!

Must be just a little delay due to location. Just wait a bit longer. Veldt is legit in my eyes (so far)

the last few weeks, shipping has slowed dramatically. Orders used to ship within 3-5 days of ordering, but now it's taking 7-14 days to ship. This isn't a good sign. I don't know why things are going the way they are with them, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from getting fucked by Coinabul and don't want to see Veldt become another Coinabul. It would go a long way to ease the tension if Veldt would post something in this thread explaining themselves. it's at the point where i don't want to place another order until i receive my currently pending orders.

We're definitely NOT headed where Coinabul went, and we are still shipping orders out, just a little slower. Our suppliers are out of almost everything. With the spot pricing rollercoaster that happened in August everything got sold out, and the mints can't keep up with demand. So, we're still here, still working, shipping everything as we receive it from the suppliers.

As of 09/11 silver is sold out and delayed until the end of September. Gold is delayed by about 1-7 days.

i did finally receive my orders, but i am still concerned with Veldt's business practices. In their reply to me they let slip some interesting facts: They do not actually have gold and silver in stock ready to ship, they are playing middleman. When you place an order with them, they then place an order with their supplier. The supplier ships the metal to veldt, then veldt sends the metal to you. The problem is that most people think that veldt has the metal in their possession when they place an order, so it doesn't make sense to them why it would take so long to ship. This also leads to some interesting questions: why are they still taking orders, when by their own admission orders will be delayed by weeks or even months? What will happen when their suppliers stop shipping orders, will veldt make good on all the orders? Why keep taking order when you aren't sure if/when they will ship? They say they aren't going the way of coinabul, but the situation says otherwise.

let's clarify some things. :) We never said we do not have gold and silver in stock. We order from our suppliers in bulk as does everyone. When supply gets low, we order more. As it stands our incoming shipments are already sold before they even arrive. Due to the recent market price fluctuations demand is much greater than supply, so some metals are hard to come by. Delays vary from 1 day to 1 month, depending on the product.

To answer your questions:

Why are we still taking orders?

- Because customers who place orders during delays do not mind waiting. The prices are low and for most they are worth waiting for.

What will happen if our suppliers stop shipping?

- In this highly unlikely apocalyptic event we will refund our customers.

Why keep taking orders?

- See first reply.

If you do not want to/cannot wait, then please contact us to get an ETA. If the ETA doesn't suit you, then perhaps try your luck somewhere else.

- Just out of intellectual curiosity ; you're using what appears to me as a direct wallet, with no middle man, so ;  as a company, how do you deal with bitcoin volatility, do you actually keep the BTC to yourself as an investment for yourselves ?
Why don't you use BitPay or some similar sevices that could deal with that problem ?

My silver shipment arrived today!

About a week ago, I was looking at the price of bitcoin and thinking "Wow, this looks like a bubble.  Perhaps I should sell some."  But I have been looking to buy some silver for long term savings, or TEOTWAWI, for more than a year.  So I came to this forum to search for a reputable dealer who might take my bitcoins directly, so I could accomplish both tasks at the same time.  The search function took me directly to this very thread, so here I am to voice my own experiences with Veldt Gold.  I'm extremely happy with my transaction, and I'm likely to do it again if my remaining bitcoins continue to appreciate.

However, there is one thing that I would change with regard to shipping next go around.  I would ask for return-receipt requested, so that the postal carrier will be required to either have someone in my household sign for the box, or leave one of those postcards that require me to trek down to the post office itself to pick it up.  My neighborhood isn't known for getting packages stolen off of front porches, but I wouldn't want to be the first case, either.

Placed my first order with Veldt Gold today, nothing big just a few one gram gold bars and 10 silver rounds. Well see how things go, but so far everything seems good. The exchange rate for ETH seemed to over charge by $14.62, however the btc to eth rate on exchanges is currently greater then the eth to usd, as well as usdt by about 35$. So all seems reasonable, no real exchange rate rape noted. It would have cost 35$+ to send btc from exchange to personal wallet, then another 28$+ to make a purchase on providentmetals (at least). Veldt's selection is limited but I'm happy with what they do offer. For shipping, for my order atleast, I had the option of free for $5.95.

Haven't ever used Veldt, but I like that they accept multiple cryptos directly (and would prefer to support them specifically for this). Called them up and was able to speak directly to the CEO/Owner (without even asking--just had a question about stock). Glad to have stumbled across them, placed first order today. Will continue to add using them.

Just wanted to give an update: Veldt came through with 5/5 stars. Had a USPS delay, not on Veldt's end.
