Title: Anti-spam Merit Giveaway - For Junior Members Only - updated
Post by: marlboroza on January 26, 2018, 06:38:45 PM
I have some merits to share so if you are junior member and you were missed by all, post here and I will send you some merits.

Rules:

Your last 30 posts must be constructive and not spam.
Don't send me PM for merit.
Minimum activity required - 54
I will look at posts written in english, croatian, slovenian and serbian language
Don't quote this post.

1)Should I move this somewhere else? Beginners and Help? Services? Hm.
2)As for subject, this is not really giveaway, right? I am not braking forum rules with this, right?

I think it is sad that merit points have to be used like this, and not to reward good and constructive posts. I understand that it may be difficult to find such posts, but surely it is worth hanging on to points until these posts appear.

I might suggest only giving away 8 or 9 merit points to each person so that these people will be very close to being able to rank up, but you won’t be making the decision for them to rank up on your own - at least one other person with sufficient merit will need to agree.

Hi!

I believe you're doing a great thing here. I don't know if I would qualify for your merits under your judgement, but I have tried to make a large number of constructive posts (not only off-topic, but many within the crypto-world).

If you would please take a look and see if I would deserve your merit support, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Alex

P.S. my activity is less than 60, I understand that. But I do have 60+ posts as you can see on my profile.

As I see it, the merit system is intended to improve posting quality, and also to encourage informed discussion. Giving away merit points to new members based on past posts ( however good they are) is really just helping to increase the number of sig spammers, and those who see posting on Bitcoin Talk as a potential revenue stream, rather than an information exchange.

I was just about to write something to you but first take a look at this user:

Read my posts ! I deserve something better !
Care to look at all his posts?

That's why I have certain rules.
Anyone can post 60 times in yabtc giveaway/off topic one-liners/etc and only one constructive post/topic for merit. So basically, spammer with farming account can reach member status very easily with only 1 constructive post. On the other hand regular forum user will have problem.

Second example: (probably much better example and it will show you what I said above):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2821218.0
Which is in my honest opinion started for only one reason:
I would like to participate. You can check my posts and decide. Thanks for this nice gesture.
Look at his post history.
Now look at this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823184.0
See? Shitposting whole time and because of one good post he will rank up, not to mention his constructive posts are about merit. I don't think theymos had this in mind when he implemented merit to stop spam.

That is why I opened this topic because I don't want to give merit to such users. If junior member want merit from me they can easily post here.
It doesn't mean I won't give merit to anyone else  ::)
I might suggest only giving away 8 or 9 merit points to each person so that these people will be very close to being able to rank up, but you won’t be making the decision for them to rank up on your own - at least one other person with sufficient merit will need to agree.
To be honest I was thinking about sharing 2-3 merits, as I said hopefully other members will follow. If someone is constructive I don't see why not to help such user to rank up. I don't have too much merit to give anyway.

It is nice to spend your time to read what they post and decide. I think merit is very subjective .  People think their post is constructive while all they do sprouting nonsense. I just feel I missed the train. I should write more when I first registered. I prefer to read instead of writing. I believe merit system is good even though it has some disadvantages. I just got bored to see all this useless post under every new project.

Thanks for the giveaway. At least it will encourage some people.

@marlboroza

I'm sorry if my comments seem to come over a bit hard, and I can understand that you want to encourage good newcomers. What I am saying is that the Merit system is for the future, and not for the past. Lets encourage members to make new valuable posts, rather than reward them for past posts that have been buried.

I have a suggestion

how about you or anyone who know crypto currency well to make an example about what is a good post?

as we all know that the majority of merits are held by higher ranks (legendary and hero member)

which means what we post should please these level of people

to be honest, I have no idea what kind of post is good enough to get your merits other than  praise merit system.

but I don't want to cheat my heart, I don't think merit system is good

I suppose the reason why you rich people have these great amount of merits is that you can figure out what are good enough posts and what are shitposts. then why don't you make some exammple to show high quality posts that deserve merits?

I really feel merits giveaway humiliates us, like we trying to beg for some merits

so, if you rich people hold your merits and trusted by the bitcoin talk forum. please make a role model right now and you guys make good enough posts first to change the situation.

you should know your responsibility, please stop teasing and judging poor people, we are not your entertainment, this is not a class, you are not our teacher, we don't need your grade to graduate from university.

I saw a legendary said that he don't understand about the hate, so anyone has the same question. you should read my post carefully .

and don't say bad words to me just because my post cannot please you.

THIS IS AN OPEN FORUM AND EVERYONE IS WATCHING!!

There are two options for you :

1 ) You want to get merits to get promoted to higher levels. In that case, you need to observe the posts are getting enough merits and try to post like them. It might require you to please certain people or agree to them. This is a forum owned by someone and as a member you have to follow the rules set by him.

2) You do not care about the rules or merits. In that case, you will be stuck at the current rank. You will make some complains and then either go to option 1 or leave this forum.

I get your point ,but it's a bit unfair to distribute merit points by default like that . I mean there are Jr.members that have been excited to finaly reach member and have only few days to hit it , then this system gets introduced and they might get stuck with that rank for a while now and the same goes for other ranks . I believe the merit points shoul've been distributed according to the activity number not the rank.

I was 5 points away from eligibility for consideration as Legendary, and now I am 500 merit points away from it. It's will be even harder for me to gin points as I don't normally get involved with all the peripheral stuff that has taken over the forum.

It is apparent that the stress caused by the promotion difficulties, and the loss of revenue from sig spamming, justifies the introduction of this system. It is an information exchange, and a Bitcoin help forum, not an employment bureau or an advertising hoarding for the use of non-Bitcoin users.

I appreciate the effort you're trying to make.  This was one of the biggest concerns I had was that people will just horde merit and the newbies really won't have a chance to do much.  I've tried to contribute in a meaningful way, we'll see what happens as time goes on.

Thanks for trying to help us out!

Speaking of brand new valuable posts, was busy reporting this post https://archive.fo/BA8Mu with 2 merit to moderator for plagiarism. ;D
I am not rewarding anyone, I am just sharing little merit I have to users missed(or not missed but not enough merit) by everyone but have decent/honest/constructive/not spam posts. I sent earlier today 5 merit to newbie because he has found bounty abuser.

Well, after reading your post, I was thinking to change topic to something like "last 30 constructive posts". What do you think? That will encourage new members to make good posts. I'll do that.

Hi!

I saw this thread linked in by another thread(this thread:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2830612.msg29015875#msg29015875).

In what i have read, you're helping all kinds of members to rank up(give merits) if their posts are merit-worthy. I would like to ask you a favor and do check mine.

If there are non, maybe an advise?

Thanks a lot!

When you say "deserve", you mean quoting 6 months old topic and all other similar "hit and run" replies?
I was a little bit of trouble getting my bitcoin, karna is still new, please help master :)
Of course you need a capital and always remember that the higher capital then the more profit that you will get. That's how the market works and it also depending on the season, You should buy when the value of coins is low and sell it again when it rise up.
No.

Now with that out of the way, I don't think anyone 'deserves' anything on another person's privately owned system. But I'd be happy to be able to participate by rewarding good posts, and I don't think I'm going to earn much merit organically since I mostly hang out in the beginners' forum.

You could apply to become a merit source for the Indonesian board:

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Edit: Thanks marlboroza, your merits totally made my day :D

A self-appointed moderator. Good for you.

There's got to be a better way, though, right? I mean, helping people get 10 points is one thing. But when people want to go from 10 to 100? It seems like it'll become a beg-a-thon instead of a gradual appreciation of quality posts.

Legendary members can't rank any higher, at least for now. But they can still spend merit ('smerit') points. Also, I guess a lot of legendaries are merit sources anyway, i.e. able to create smerit (spendable merit, not merit for themselves) out of nothing. So for legendary members, merit would probably be mostly a status thing.

I like your idea, you seems to be one of the most generous members in the forum. I also know that you have nothing from keeping your sMerits. If you have time, you should check membership applications, and give them sMerits as much as possible. You don't have time to scan all topics,, all threads in the forum to find good posts, so this is great way to use sMerits.

Actually, your last thread did not contribute anything to the topic on Anti-spam merit giveway. Can you see that? Will it receive merits for such a low-quality, off-topic thread? I think it won't. You should improve your quality of each posts first, then merits will automatically come by chance.

To be fair.. let's demoted 2 rank to all ranks so they must reach their Merit to get their previous ranks before the system update.
But I still can't find a way to prevent spammer/shitposter/famer with this method alone.
Oh yes this will become CHAOS for the impact of new system has reached to everyone without exceptions :3.
Legendary become Sr.Member, Hero become full member and Sr.member become member and so on.
So the system will be accepted without any rejection in unfairness method that happened.

Or... Have you read about these suggestion?
Suggestion 1 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2496860.msg25571156#msg25571156) and Suggestion 2 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2521848.msg25757419#msg25757419)

Ok, I’ll bite.

- Write short and to the point. If this isn’t feasible, use headings and maybe even a headnote or abstract. Avoid walls of text.
- Don’t set font size, colour etc.; it’s annoying.
- If the purpose of your text is to convince someone to do something,  put yourself in their shoes and plan how to motivate them.

I almost replied to your personal message then i saw you here. I thought you only pm-ed me cause i have a spare sMerits. Here's my reply:

Hey man! Sorry i could not give you 4 merits for the following reasons.

1. I can't understand russian how would i know that you're contributing well and not just spamming.

2. I have seen your profile, you're full of campaigns and one-liners which again, i don't know if you're here for discussions and you really want to contribute in the forum or just trying to rank up for monetary purposes.

I'm truly sorry but i support the merit system, i want to give my merits to those whose posts, i think, are merit worthy.

Godspeed!

Thirio

Ps: i'm posting this because i don't know if you pm-ed others or just me. And cause i'm sure this would also be their reply. Unless they understand russian of course and they see your post merit-worthy.

Pss: i'm also not a native english speaker but i try my best to improve my writing skills and compose a post that is understandable enough to most members.

Thankyou for doing this! I request you to checkout some of my posts!

On another note, I'm concerned about the Merit award assymmetry for posts in "Meta" compared to those in let's say the "Altcoin discussion" forum. It seems like not many posts in the latter are getting enough merit. Perhaps quality posts there are getting lost in the crowd.

I don't agree on anything said in topic, every user has right to send as many merit he wants to send unless theymos restrict sending merits to 1 per post. Besides, you are off topic.

Thanks a lot marlboroza for the merit! :)

Merit system has been implemented because some guys thought it will be great idea to create dozens if not hundreds new accounts to spam forum with one-line-zero value-meaningless-nonsense-hit&run-joined-godbless-goodluck-off topic posts.
Some of them improved posting quality over time but most of them didn't, so, you want to punish old members because of such spammers? ::)

As the matter of fact you are a way off topic with this post.
This is not discussion about merit so would you please stop spamming my topic with nonsense?

WHOOPS~! SORRY~
I thought you might like it. Since I created those suggestion when I was newbie.. And give your thought about it..
And btw demoted ranks is the best fairness to the system. So there will be no pro-contra about it.
It's not punishing the old member.. but telling the old member to become inspiration or lead how to earn their actual ranks with the new system going on.
If you think it still off topic of yours then I'll eraser it right away.

Well mate, I read your thread and I can say that this isn't a giveaway, you provide merits for those who make constructive posts. Through this, you support useful posters to reach their desired rank. You should change your topic name into ''Support to acquire Merit''.
This is the way how should older members contribute their knowledge to help lower rank members. You have big thanks from me!
By the way, can you check my recent posts?

I think it is sad that merit points have to be used like this, and not to reward good and constructive posts. I understand that it may be difficult to find such posts, but surely it is worth hanging on to points until these posts appear.

Agreed.  I'd also add that it does absolutely nothing about the spam accounts that have already ranked up or been bought/hacked/otherwise-acquired by shit posters.  Just look at this douchenozzle https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2851327.msg29255601#msg29255601  I'm not trying to call them out specifically, but the irony of seeing someone with the "privilege" of advertising merrily spamming away under a system meant to deter such behaviour was equal parts amusing and irritating.

Sorry for the off-topic post marlboroza.

Many people are quite struggling in this new merit system because even though their post is a constructive and helpful one they didn't or failed to give them merits because we are only given a limited amount of smerit points, so for you to give merit for those deserving which are not given the merit they deserve this quite nice sir. Might as well check my post sir see if anything there is qualified to be given merit.

Thanks for this thread! With the new merit system, it's going to be harder to rank up but at the same time, it's going promote better post quality within the forum. There was said to be a variety of other sMerit sources although it has not been exposed what or who these other sources are. This would be great for those who are still kind of lost and are adjusting to the merit system.

When everyone complains, do we also have to complain. I think just enjoy what has become our ability. Maybe one moment people will appreciate us.

When we consider the post we created is the best post we ever made, because it must search for so many sources, but not one person respects us, take the positive. What we do is knowledge for ourselves.

Like the philosophy contained in Bitcoin, He is valuable because people think of him as valuable. It is precious because it makes it worthwhile.

Before I say read my post or I deserve Merit I like to put forward some points.

Theymos proposed the system to stop the shit posting like "going to moon" and "lambo" but actually it hit the medicore  member most. People who are delivering good post are really getting good Merit But medicore people who do not created a high quality post (even they are not shit posting like "going to moon" ) are hardest hit.

Personally , you will find my many post inquiring about number of coin required for POS or setting up of MasterNode but is I am really in fault asking these questions when first post of coin will just tell you that this POS/MN coin without any  required number of coin information. Even these information is missing in their website too.

I am also against the spam , You can find my post advising my fellow member not to spam even before the Merit system introduced. Spam really causing issues , 80 pages of thread just contain 10 pages of useful information .(Now reading 10 page is ok but reading 80 pages of worthless post is real pain and further increase scam because the person might repeat his question that is already answered earlier.)

I have no complain about not receiving merit .( I put forward some of my suggestion in Meta forum and they are not coming in my post history) .

This forum provided me the source of ample knowledge and still there is much more to learn but it hurt just a little bit if you cannot progress.( I think natural human tendency.)

Someone pointed here about merit. That person
seems to have got merit for that.
This merit point system seems all about just
linking and then linking to posts from members
who can give merits.

What a good way to promote quality posts.
A good vicious cycle.

@marlboroza
The point I am trying to make if the developer did not put any information in there website and ANN thread , then how can you find that information by Google search? Google with fetch information that exist , it cannot generate a information on its own.

Any way, even I have a very little experience ( less than 2 month) but I learnt that 90 percent Altcoin are scam so need to pursue them for missing information.

I would like to give this a shot. I know I only have 50+ activities and 50+ posts. But I believe that it is not in the quantity of your posts that counts but in the quality. I have been working hard in order to create quality posts but unfortunately, I'm stucked with zero merit. But, I'm not losing hope. I would still post things that would be informative and useful for other members of this community.

Its quite harder now to rank up because there is already a number of merits required. However, knowing that merit system was enforced with a good intention, then it just made me realize that "patience is a virtue" and that good things come to those who wait.

Thank you for taking the time reading my post(s)!

I do not think this is how the merit system should work. Literally you are saying that you are favouring someone who do not have merits to rank up. I am fairly new to this community. Since I joined I fall in love with this community and doing my best to devote my time to help the community. I am making posts, commenting on others posts, assisting someone who needs help, long story short doing everything from my limit. BUT I personally find this merit system is not working. I mean why do I need to get your attention to have merits? Shouldn't be my work gives me credit? I am not saying you are doing wrong thing. You are also doing your best. Who has time to search for good post and send merits. So what you are doing is calling out people to take merits from you.

Do you see the points I am trying to make?

I should be discovered by my work here and get merits as credit but I am here to make myself visible to get merits even though I am very much active in this forum and constantly giving my true contribution to the community.

Hope you have time to see my profile and find few of my (constructive!!!) post and then have a second thought.

Mate I back you up 100% this merit giveaway things are like humiliations for us. It's not helping everyone to stay on the same page. May be the merit system needs to be improved. May be it's a wrong thing to give a lot of merits to the higher ranked members out of the air. May be they needed to earn it like us having a small ranked account. May be they needed to start over and needed to see how hard it would be to get merits for the sake of getting raked up.

I am not trying to offend anyone. There are members I saw posted 1000s of comments, if you are with this forum from years then having 1000s of comments should be normal. Look at me... not even two months ( December 14, 2017, 03:18:19 PM ) but have posted over 220 post. And yes I am not making all shitposts (Yes there are some but the number might be less than 5%). The way I am contributing to this community I guess if it goes like this way then after a year I should have more than over 1200 posts! Am I not doing much better than some of the high ranked members who had 100s of merits but still the way you are treating us (giving away merit) is like humiliating us.

Seriously?
Is this what you found from my comments on your post?

Just because I did not like what you are doing does not mean you start sounding cheesy. Please be constructive on your replies and show some respect to others. Also please do some study to learn what makes things spammy. Surely you did not like what I said because it went against your psychology and you could not accept it and started shit-talking. May be you are senior than me on this forum in ranking but I am sure there are other stuffs which I know better than you. I know what I am talking about. So please be careful before you act.

What did you imply in your thread?
I dont really think that the topic was initially created for helping farming accounts to be ranked up, instead of giving motivations for users to contribute high quality posts in order to be considered carefully by topic's creator, malboroza. Nothing mentioned or implied about farming accounts will have privileges in the OP.

I strongly believe that the topic will get attentions of many users and also gives them both motivation to contribute, and sMerits to give away.

Actually I am happy because I do have the requirements you mentioned buddy but at the same time feel so bad to ask you to check my posts and award me if you like my posts because this is not the way things works, in such large place deserving candidates too are missing the opportunity , I think the moderators should rethink about this strategy but feels good beacuse people like you have come forward to award the deservents, great work Buddy

Please check your grammar. her is what it should be like:

" Maybe I think they will give their smerit to people they know, but I myself only got 1 merit from others. But I am still grateful for that.
I agree with this merit because there will be no more spam post that get rank. "

You need to use full stop and comma properly.

sorry no.
Is this what you found from my comments on your post?
You were ranting about something. Read this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0 and read 1), 3), 4), 5), 13), 22), 24) and 32).

What merit farming? They will run out of merits.

No, it wasn't, i believe merit was introduced because of hundreds goodblessgoodlucksir accounts posting from many alt accounts in the same threads post under post paraphrasing their own words in many ways but in general writing nonsense, posts like "no internet no bitcoin" and 2000+ replies looking like "bitcoin can't work without internet and because bitcoin is online we need internet in order to work with bitcoin" so it would be stupid to give merit to such users unless they improve their post quality.
Please check your spam burst.

~

Bitcoin is sure to suffer or will continue to decrease in value because there will be no access to the internet. Having no access in the internet means that all bitcoin related activities will surely stop. Well, i dont think if there is any trading that will happen since i think bitcoin cannot exist of there's no internet so, there is no possible trading can happen if there is no internet.

Bitcoin cannot exist with internet and internet can exiat without bitcoin but bitcoin will always be part of the internet. If it is turned off then bitcoin is not accessible anymore though your money will be save since no one can access it even yourself. I do think turning off or internet being gone is a low chance of happening. So all in al, hacing the internet turned off can cause of no interaction in cryptocurrency.
My sixth sense told me that you will come, so please read post which is only 2 posts above yours and part where I mentioned "NO internet no bitcoin"  Lol!
