Let me share few things with you which are very important.

How to find weather ICO is scam or not

There are few things which we can check to avoid scams.

1. Do check their whitepaper , if you don't have any technical knowledge then you can take help from google to comes to know about project reviews because there are many website who review about ICO's
2. Do check their Team members, try to find their social accounts and do some background about them and their past experience.
3. Check out their Roadmap, check out discussion of projects on bitcointalk,reddit,telegram and other social channels.
4. Check their partnership details. Try to contact their partners to confirm it.

As once you select that you want to participate in ICO, then what you have to keep in mind.
1. No one from team member will contact you personally through telegram or other channels to contribute to you. Only ways of contribution are either through their website or that is mentioned on their website.
2. There are many fake admin profiles on telegram , they will personally message you and will give you contribution address to send ETH/BTC or whatever. Don't listen to them and ban them immediately.
3. Only trust official websites, Admin and team member.
4. you will get email from hackers , don't open them.
5. use 2fa and other securities to your accounts on exchanges.

Recently i get email from fake cryptopia exchange team that someone is trying to access my account. I click on that link and found that it was almost similar to real cryptopia link. So avoid these types of email.

Yes, I agree with you and prior to participating in ICO, the most important thing is to do a detailed analysis related to ICO developers. and from what you have informed about the anticipation that every investor should do research before investing or other partisivasi activities at ICO will greatly help me to be more selective in choosing ICO in the activities or partisivasi that I will do.

I never expect that scammers used that kind of dirty stuff, thanks for that tips. Maybe I encounter that in the future, at least I read that in this thread. Anyway, even in telegram campaign, there's scenario that someone use my name to update my eth address. They try to update my eth address to get all my stakes. One day, I visit the spreadsheet and I see that my name is duplicate, so better to always check your btc or eth address in spreadsheet to avoid this kind of disaster.

Like your tips - they are quite good. Also I think it's important to look at the product: whether the team has MVP done or at least is taking certain steps to do so.

This is a good tips specially to those who are planning to invest in any ICO. A lot of scams in a cryptoworld and if you didn’t make any effort to study the project you’ll be a victim of scam, let’s keep our money always on the safe side even the risk is high.

Thanks for the advice, it is great to be more careful in the crypto world, many are looking for profits by cheating as a famous ICO, and I will remember.

This is very beneficial for most people to be more careful in investing, now many ICOs are deceiving and can harm many people, will worsen the reputation of crypto.

Bitcoin works in the hash system which is very complicated and it auto finds the viruses and the intruders in it, but then there are many other things which we all have to do because of the systems which are prune to hacking. Most of the people are still using windows and in those operating system the intruder can come in silently and sit there to monitor the routines. This must be countered by the users themselves with appropriate firewall setting and updated security systems.

I recommended you to join in any bump and dump telegram channel and you can able to get the more project related information of new ICO and spikes about already lised coins as well.

While it is extremely important to check all the available information about an ico, the truth is that very few people go through the trouble, it doesn't make a lot of sense after all you are risking your money and if for some reason you invest in a scam you are going to be unable to get your money back, but I'm just telling you what I see, so those that do not take the time to check the ico are going to be scammed at some point.

Thank you for your advice, but I think it is not good time to take part in ICOs, most of the ICOs have not enough value, but so much risky.

There is a concept in business which states, "the higher the risk, the higher the return." Indeed, ICOs are extremely risky to invest in, but choose the right one and you can turn a few hundred dollars to millions! You don't need to look far, just look at bitcoins. BTC started like $0.000001 or even a lot more zeroes. That translates to millions of dollars if you bought some back when it started.

Well, you've learned a lot until now I'm also happy about it.
But for some new users they tend not to pay attention to it all, they just do it without caring about the background of the ICO, so not a few people who lose by not paying them, or even ICO coins that they follow even disappear from crypto.

Some of them are too lazy to read the white paper, what they usually do is to ask and try to look for the current status of a specific coin here in the community. Although its an effective strategy, but its still different when youre educated about the background of the ICO that you participated in.
On the other hand, I also recieved an email from that fake crytopia team, but I dont usually click on the links attached in the mail. Instead I open the website directly from my bookmark.

I agree with you, when we start any investment or trading then we should be-careful and search about it mustily, Otherwise a big loss is waiting for us, if we start trading without search. Once a time, i started investment in a site without any search and later on this site was scam me. So that was a bad experience for me, and till now i search firstly and secondly i do start, and as you explain these are basic and necessary rules, every new trader should follow these.

Yes actually you are rite. In the beginning i do the same. i invest without any research. There was project named as bitbase  , it is still on coinmarketcap. They collect money from ICO and then run. Even i was not able to get those coins from their system to exchange. After that i never invest on any ICO without any research.

Rite. Many people don't go through whitepaper. They check youtube videos and reviews from people. To be very frank there are many people who don't have any technical knowledge so they avoid to read these things and trust their friends, referrers and other things and some people are too lazy to read it  ;D

We must do our due diligence before investing, which is very time-consuming, but very necessary.

They used all sorts of disguises to swindle people out of private money.

Yes whitepaper consumes some time. I make a rule. In a week i select 1 ICO project and read their whitepaper on weekend. It makes everything easy  :)

3 things i always check when research an ICO:
- Their purpose: what can it solve? And compare with other competitor in the market. You can read ANN thread to check this
- Whitepaper: read through their technology, advantages and roadmap, what did they done in the past, and intended for the future
- Team: the most important part: you should check carefully, read their profile (in Linkedin) carefully. A project with a strong team behind are always assure for their sucessfull

Utilizing yourself on checking out 1 ICO/project on a single week is too much on my part.I can do it on a single day for a single project or even more.How? Just summarize it and theres no need to read up the whole WP. Just get the keypoints and the most important informations which will justify or convince you out on investing into a certain project.We should always put up in our minds on avoiding all shady projects.

This is a very good checklist for ICO's. I'd also check if they have a good community backing the project. The best ideas can be a failure without a strong community

Yeah right .no need to read the whole page of the paper ,instead all you need to read is the key items on why do you think they are the best. however majority of ico is sometimes decieving due to the fact that their details may seem promising but at the middle of the campaign they will only stopped or postponed because of some problems like lack of funds or worst they turned into a scam. yet reading their important infos will still be beneficial for you in the long run in order to chose the best posible ico.

bounty campaigns is still the same as ico because majority of bounty are run by an ico and that simply means they are still both risky. ive been also a participant of most bounty ico campaigns on the past and i also experienced getting scammed , not once not twice but most of the time and i feel pretty pissed off. that is why after i ranked up to much higher rank , i decided to quite joining bounties because my efforts will only got wasted for nothing even though i successfully completed their task. but overalll ico bounties do have a high potential when it comes to earning big when compared to other methods.

yes, I agree with you because I have experienced it when I do an investment activity on an ICO program but it turns out it was just a scam. and of course it would be an experience for me to be more selective in choosing ICO to make an investment. and over some tips presented OP obviously it is very helpful.

It can be worth to invest in icos but you need to be very careful, which is one of the biggest mistakes people make, they do not take the time to make a real effort to see if the ico is legitimate or if it is not, if all the investors took that time I'm pretty sure that we will have a lower number of scams and if that was the case maybe cryptocurrency ads will not have gotten banned by Facebook and Google.

If the team/admin project is inactive and rarely answer many questions from people, it's a red flag because it means they don't care about it and they make that project only for quick bucks, collect the money from ICOs and run out in the end.

If the team behind don't have any experience on that field they are promoting on their project then that project will not succeed. The guides is a very helpful one. When there is some instructions that dictates to send you xx amount of eth or bitcoin to an address, that's an obvious scam.

Being risky does not mean you cannot take part in it, what is important is for you to know how to minimize the risk to your advantage. We may say because of the risk, we want to stay away, but at the same time, staying away will also make you miss the best part of it. The advantage of ICO is to be a part of a great project from the start and early adopters always end up having the best in any case. Yes those scammers are really tactical due to the feature of cryptocurrencies of being anonymous.

And they can see the advantage on it if they will pursue their shady activities. I'm worried to those new investors but will land to the wrong people and investment.

The impact that it will bring to that investors will make them pessimistic to crypto's once they became a victim.

This is what I like the most in your post, like in the situation #1, I several experience that someone is actually messaging me in private. They're trying hard to convinced me to invest.
Accept the fact that no one will messaging you if you want to invest/contribrute in their platform.

In rush or not but if these new investors aren't so wise and doesn't have time to do enough research on where they are putting their money, they can still be a victim of those scams.

The forum is really a big help to determine on who are those scams and legit but everyone must be aware too that the forum does have a lot of scammers that are also looking for their victims and silently attacking those new investors.

Just like those spam PM's that we are receiving. These ICOs that are advertised through those PM's shall not be entertained.

There are many scammers like that and they are everywhere so the only thing we can do to protect ourselves is to not be so dumb, scammers are very smart somehow they are able to get the list of everyone that invested in an ico and then they send them malicious emails trying to get their private keys and unfortunately many people fall for it, so people need to familiarize themselves with the current scams so they can avoid it.

If you are being afraid of taking any such sort of risk in your life, then I don’t really think so that you will be able to make any kind of investment in your life and that you will just have only that much money in your life which you have for now. You need to stay positive and that instead of getting afraid and running away from the risks, the best thing which you can do is that you can go for taking precautionary measures which can help you in staying away from such mishaps.

The second part of what you wrote is what I agree with. The number one is very true. I do know that an ico that is real won't start sending you private message on telegram or soliciting for btc/eth or another other coins as contribution. They will send whatever message in the general telegram group. That is taken but at same time, I still would not give all my trust in.

Out of their laziness their natural intelligence is coming out in everything that becomes popular, they are creating a way to scam people.

And about those malicious emails, it's been in old days that there are so many email scams that are coming out.\

Now they have upgraded into cryptocurrency so as a protection, don't expose any information relevant to your identity because it can be used against you by these scammers.

What you said is good, but some of them are not all that necessary if you’re going to find a something legit. Take for example the one you said that we should check their partners and contact them all to know if they are really into any partnership with the so ICO. You don’t really have to start contacting all their partners to know whether the ICO is legit or not, it doesn’t make any sense. Apart from this, every other thing you mentioned is alright.

That is a huge red flag to me if the developers are asking for such a huge amount of money then they need to be very diligent and answer to every single question no matter how dumb possible investors may have if they do not really have the time to do that then that opens a lot of questions about their professionalism and how dedicated they are to make this project a success.

This is really good and will be as a help to newbies in here. As for the case of getting emails from hackers, well, that’s never a new thing though and you don’t have to be into cryptocurrency before hacking will start sending you mails.

It happens to those that are not into cryptocurrency investment, and have even been around before cryptocurrencies were introduced.So if you’re getting into crypto be sure of coming across them, especially when you’re being careless and giving out your info anyhow.

It will not always progress. All of these are on its introductory stage wherein the growth is really unstable. It is a risky investment but if it grows, you are very lucky. Expect the worst here and handle your investments intelligently.

You may not have to contact the partners, but really it is a way to go and I would not say it does not make sense. Sure, some of the team may be busy, but those who are looking for a way to make things work and have nothing to hide; you may use that as a means to fish them out.

It could be dropping a quick message to the original handler of any of the advisory board on the legitimacy of the project, or just trying to have a chat, probably video with the team. All that would help a lot. Most times, it is always better to call out on the team.

And unfortunately, those who are dumbed enough to fall for the intelligence of the scammers as you so called are really to be blamed. This is an unregulated environment and we cannot expect that we would not get to see those in the dark world who have always had this mindset of looking for gullible ones to eat raw. As long as we know what to do as an investor and most especially in checking the team, it would always mean a great deal in keeping our money safe.

Obviously, there are just some things you will see in an ICO that would apparently tell you straight on that this should be an area you should not even delve into. However, I really do not know what the investors who invest in such ICOs think. Apparently, they are so blinded to the idea of just wanting to make a lot of profit without even thinking of the possibility of getting scammed in the process.

Thanks for the info, it is such a big help for me as a newbie in crypto.That is true that there are lots of scammer because even me I experienced those things.Like when I joined in a project someone send private message on me that he/she will help me to earn profit like teaching me how to join in bounty and airdrop in exchange of contributing money and send it to the wallet address he/she posted.Luckily I had read in telegram that they warned about scammers like sending private message to you and pretending as an admin.So the next thing I do is to block that person who send me private message and asking for money.As of now I am having a hard time on looking for a real ICO because there are too many ICO project in this forum and thanks goodness I read your post.I will follow what you said in order to stay away to scammers/fake.

I think it's enough if you see those members in one picture where they have a discussion/presentation of ICO. On another hand when team tries to promoto ico at it's best, I think contacting each of them and asking to verify id they are really involved in that ICO, is really the part we can avoid (it's boring for both side).

We don't know when we are going to face the hacks but we should be very careful when dealing with crypto currency because there are many people wants free coin but they need to be sure check it twice before clicking any link send to you from the unknown users.

It is just quite unfortunate though that as much as you keep saying all of these, some people will still not listen or read, and would still keep falling for it over and over again, which is what had led to the idea of regulation which we obviously have to admit is going to be a lot of help.

Most people are just too lazy to do research and I feel that is where a lot of investors, especially newbies always end up missing it. They just feel anything goes and end up investing.

Very nice advise, I also want to add, since you are into the crypto world, always make sure that the security of devce is up to date, never share your device with anyone and use only a trusted internet provider, never use a public internet, they might hack your system and once they do, they might use is it against you and try to breach in to your system and take your coins, the same also goes if you have a cold storage, never give out your password to anyone, they might hack you and take care of your devices, since we are using 2fa, it will take time for us to retrieve our accounts once 1 is missing, also do not save any information in your device, make sure to save it on a different device or simply write it down, though it may take time, it is better to be secured than sorry.

The price fall of the token is happening only because of the investors who will sell their holdings when it is listed on exchanges but it doesn't mean that is scam,the supply of that coin or token increased so the price has fallen bit if it is really a good project in future it will regain its lost value by having its own investors.

Well, I am totally agree with you. Before starting in this field (choosing ICO), everyone must have a thorough knowledge in the basics of ICO. Moreover, I see that there is a ton of fake or scam ICO'S in the whole internet and unfortunately, it is very widespread, due to many people are easily fooled and the weak point of many of them is "The greed". Plus, they always want to make a lot of money in an easy way such as, Airdrop....

In addition to that, the scammers are everywhere, In fact, we must be careful of them, and not rushing to choose the ICO, and for me, I think the most easy way to know that ICO is real or fake (When you have a good knowledge in that field) is reading the Whitepaper . and if you know that there are a technical errors, then there is a great possibility that this it is a scam.

Investment are not sell their holders, the ICO organizers are usually who sells their coins, even though they received huge amount of money in the ICO, in most of the ICOs, the organizers still decides to hold most of the coins for themself.

I don't agree with you and I actually think the opposite, a good project won't fall when it's start trading as it shows a dis-belief from the investors, a good project will keep it's way clear to the top( where the project actually goes live), sadly most of the ICOs find themself in the junk after few months as no development has been made.

I do know that an ico that is real won't start sending you private message on telegram or soliciting for btc/eth or another other coins as contribution. They will send whatever message in the general telegram group. That is taken but at same time, I still would not give all my trust in.

Big thanks to this i almost got scammed by someone else because i tried to contact in the telegram and the admin pm me in the telegram as well. Thank you. This is very useful. I once received a private message from one who claim to be "admin" asking me to purchase Masternode at cheaper price. While I was contemplating, I received another private message from another person saying he is team member asking me to purchase same. That was a big eye opener because I quickly said they were not serious if all of the team members go about trying to sell masternode lolz. That's how I escaped the issue.

Because I noticed that there are some instances that the scammer had an admin profile in telegrams and there some accusations that they are accomplice of the real members of that ICO which I also believed that it is true. I don’t think you have any problem with opening emails, I think when you will have a problem is when you reply to those mails. But if a mail looks suspicious you should mark it as spam immediately, that way whenever you get a mail from the same sender it will immediately go to the spam section and won’t be in your inbox.

We need to also be very careful about what we do with our emails you may receive a phishing link or if you run an exe file you could get a copy and paste virus, this is a very old virus but people keep falling for it, and what it does is that whenever you are trying to send money it replaces the address you want to send coins to for an address from the hacker and since most people do not double check what they are doing then they send money to the hacker without even knowing it.
