The only place I think altcoins has a future in is gambling, normal gambling but first and foremost e-betting.I can not see how it will take over  from normal currency's in the world of buying or selling any other goods then btc. The main reason I think this is that nobody wants to be that guy that bought two pizzas for 10000 btc 5 years from now, so i cant really see what else it has a real future in. But that is only my opinion, What do you guys think?

Gambling and buying drugs on the darkweb, but i think the drug dealers mostly want btc, haha :P

If you don't see the future in alts, then it's worthless being in this space at all. It's a given that a lot of alts are worthless and won't serve any major uses. But you also need to understand that there are alt projects with use cases and real world application. There's a lot more useful alts than gambling and e-betting

I hope you are aware that except for BTC and its forks remaining digital currencies in the crypto market are called ''altcoin''.
I also know that 80% of them are useless and there are dozens of unnecessary altcoins related to one specialization. But we cannot say unnecessary to what is necessary due to useless ones and using of their necessary ones in the future will make our life easier.

crypto gambling is more to make someone interested and this business is of interest to users. Crypto online gambling provides convenience, transparency and many benefits that they get compared to fiat.

altcoin which is more stable and has small satoshi values can be easily integrated with trade utilities such as marketplace or online store. like Dogecoin, NPXS or HOT with small tang fluctuations that are great for retail businesses

There will be a lot of utility altcoins that will make it worthwhile to invest into them. Some of the most known ones are bnb coin which is binance coin that you can own to pay less trade fee and it at least has a use somewhere that makes it valuable (also they burn their coins time to time which makes it worth more in the future).

Ethereum is the biggest with all the blockchain features it has from ICO to games to companies based on blockchain data storage. There are many coins like these that has something you can use it for, people do not want to invest into a coin just because it is designed well or something, they want to be capable of spending or using that coin in order to make it have a value. Without any use of the coin they do not give it any value. Hence, in the future only the altcoins with utility will prevail.

You does make sense about altcoin to have good future in the gambling aspect but the future of altcoin with gambling site is kind of 50-50% because I seen alot of gamblers asking their favorite e gambling site to add altcoin to their payment system but most of the gambling site didnt  add it. However, I think is too early to decide the future of altcoin because I believe the future of altcoin lies on the time when bitcoin reach the 21 million coins to mine.

I would love to be that guy who bought those pizzas. Because you can bet your bottom dollar that he had plenty more bitcoin than just those 10,000 and he's now sitting very pretty in life. Who cares about buying a ridiculously overpriced pizza when you've got more money than you'll ever need.

I think most of altcoin will be useless in the future and be used for nothing. But I guess there will be some coins that will be useful.

Having read through the OP, I think the OP isn't much aware that other cryptos like Eth, litecoin, Dash and even all the btc forks are all referred to as "altcoins". It's only Bitcoin that isn't referred as an altcoin for the stroke of luck that it was the first crypto. Now, let's even consider the fact that the above listed altcoins I mentioned all do the same work Bitcoin does - Payment purpose. So, whatever happens to the bitcoin will likely happen to them. They aren't going to be useless in any way.

It completely depends. You have to realize that not all cryptocurrencies are made for payments(like Bitcoin). While there are definitely a lot of scam coins/tokens, some cryptocurrencies are made as a utility for multiple purposes. Ethereum for decentralized applications, Basic Attention Token for online tips and ads payments, MakerDao as a governance token, the list goes on. Saying that altcoins are best for gambling and betting is like saying that all vehicles are made for roadtrips. In fact, bitcoin is one of the best cryptocurrencies to use for gambling and betting, simply because it's the coin that's mostly accepted on betting/gambling sites.

Don't go further to gambling and e-betting, there's ETH already. Although prices are disappoint to have drown this low, speculation says its going to rise above like the phoenix from its ashes. Altcoins are made to have purpose of course unless its made for just making money like the shitcoins that are dead by now because of this bear market.

in every ico that has the concept of altcoin gambling has the best potential, but believe it will not last a long time because the best concept of altcoin is that it can be used for the benefit of many people and it provides benefits.

altcoin can potentially be used if there are consistent altcoins like bitcoin, because altcoin has a lot of variety of choices so I think this is something that altcoin coins must do to be consistent and stable so that they can be used in the future for useful things.

Now altcoins look's like garbage have no value but have high supply in different kind. Altcoin will survive in future and ( maybe ) only change name but have same function to help people with send receive payment activity. Well, eventually something will come up. The system will be brought to mind, solve all the main problems. And it will be possible to use, pay for purchases, online payments. It's just that there are so many of them now that you really think where you can put them all.

There can be a lot of places to used alt coins if the developer are serious want to develop it, some of the coins can be used for certain game, some can be used as the reward in exchanges, there are some places accept alt coin for transaction payment, but all of that still in small scale

Maybe old altcoins still can be used in future, but new coins especially tokens, will be used or maybe only be a plan and never get realized. That is what i see from some project that claimed they can be way of payment.

Altcoins are occupy the major position in future because 21 million Bitcoin only mineble so automatically demand will increase in future.  But peoples are move to another platform and this reached entire world at the same time few promising altcoins only survive in future because most are died in upcoming years.

I feel alts will be used for niche purposes in the future or also for use as payments. I personally own a small amount of alts for quicker transactions in times when the BTC mempool's clogged or fees are unusually high, and I know there are specialized alts out there that focus on one major subject, like Wagerr and gambling, and also Ethereum for its aforementioned smart contracts. BTC's used often for payments as it's the most established and well-known cryptocurrency there is out there, but future innovations to crypto payments could cause another coin to be better suited for transactions.

Do you still need new coins from the current Altcoin? basically everything is the same, namely to transact between two or more individuals, by using the internet to speed up transactions and also reduce transaction costs.
No need for many coins to be born, all we need is how cryptocurrency can begin to be used to make payments easier and safer

I agree with you . Up to 90% of ICON projects using the ETH platform will be discarded as this is where the most scam projects appear. In the future, I believe that only the coin that really has a good development can survive because everything in this market is always very fierce competition at this time.

I'm in to altcoins for the purpose of making money,same as 99-9% of everyone else in crypto. I just wanted a discussion about what people  think they can/will be used for in the end. I don't believe for a second that Logis coin (LGS) at some point will be used will be used for payment or tracking of ordered goods , or that medic coin will be used for paying your hospital bills or that rupaya (RUPX) will take over banking services in Asia and I quote; because many places in Asia don't have a stable internet connection or electricity. Just to point out the problem with RUPX dream of taking over for the banks, why in goods name would it be any easier to buy a altcoin and send that to someone then it would be paying for something in FIAT or with a credit/debit card if you don't even have electricity.
But just because I don't believe in the in the hypes/hopes and dreams of these coins, it don't mean that I don't see a potential in trading them.
And I have no doubt that blockchain technology will be used for something useful in the future, I'm just not sure it will be any of the things we see every ICO's claim they have the answer to.

The problem with that is, if I was to pay for something with a altcoin, I  would want to be damn sure that it will not be worth a 1000% more next week. So we need a low or stable value coin.

In most cases or from what I observed, altcoins are being used as a reward for gaming, betting and or a medium of payment by large companies where you can get their product at a discounted price using a particular altcoin. Their purpose? They are always a substitute for Bitcoin where in the end, they will still be traded to bitcoin. In short, these altcoins are being used to multiply the number of your bitcoin at a short period of time but ofcourse, you have to be a smart trader. Unfortunately, some of the altcoins are just a garbage and created without a sole purpose.

Yes altcoins will be useful in the future because altcoins is useful now  for trafing to have profit.and its the easiest way to earn money now.Just monitor anf learn how to do it.

hehe, yea, that's what I use altcoins for, trading. But I meant payment wise and if any of them will actually live up to what the ICO claim they will do. all this ridiculous ICO's that are popping up every day will not bbe good for the reputation of crypto in the long run   

We have already been used altcoins as of now and have a better profit in trading, altcoins is an alt of Bitcoin that we can be used in trading.
Those altcoins are having a different function in blockchain technology which there is having good development coins and also there are shitcoin that probably un-develop or abandon. Yes, it can be useful but it is a case to case basis it depends on which altcoins will be useful now and in the future.

I think that altcoin can be used in a variety of financial systems. Not only gambling games, Altcoin can be used in conducting other financial transactions such as buying goods and even buying services on the internet such as hosting and video games. Altcoin is the same as Bitcoin, although the coverage of Bitcoin is very wide, but Altcoin also has the same opportunity to become a competitive financial system.

With over 1K number of altcoins in exchanges, I don't expect that it could be usable in the future. Even the top listed coin has no assurance to be used in the future. However, if there us a development for altcoin or cryptocurrencies, then its pretty good to invest with them because it may be utilized by people soon.

Isn't gambling is not a good idea to become an alternative way for us to earn here in this business? when we turn into this form of gambling or e-betting this might lead us into a situation where our capital will be loss in the end. Altcoins has a bright future there is no doubt people love to earn money by investing in altcoins whatever the source is it doesn't pay any attention. Today, due to the volatility of the cryptocurrency price, I cannot say whether btc or altcoins will replace cash. This is the most important obstacle.

Depending on what is their sole purpose for their project in the first place because a lot of altcoins are useless out there, even with a simple task they needed such an ICO to just proposed their project and most of the time always failing the bounty hunters.

The point of the discussion is on the usefulness of Altcoins in the future,cryptocurrencies aren't replacing cash/fiat,take your mind off it..

@OP, even at this moment, most Altcoins are not that much significant,not to talk of the future,i think as time goes on the strength of the Altcoins would reduce tremendously,although we'll see a handful of worthwhile ones..
It's all down to how well the project organizes it's platform and the quality of its management team,Good Altcoins would survive,while the bad ones would gradually fade away

I never really considered it in too much detail but honestly vendor machines look like the best possible options out there.

First of all if you can manage to implement bitcoin payments (or any other coin you want as well) there is a big chance it is already automated for everyone involved, they just pay via some QR code scanning or something and get what they want after the money is sent (you don't have to wait for the money to arrive, as soon as you see it sent just give the item from the vending machine). This way people would just pay with their phones and get what they want via vending machines very quickly.

Considering there are a lot of vending machines all around the world, just one system that can turn them into crypto accepting machines would really hit so great and the first company that does it will become rich probably.

depending on the altcoin itself, if the developers think about the future development of their coin, they should make the coin flexible, not only can it be used on one platform, but also multiplatform so that everyone can benefit

It depends on the potential of a certain coin. If it has the characteristic which is the same as bitcoin, I believe that it could be used in different transactions. There are actually lot's of establishments which accepts cryptocurrency and it is an advantage for us to have it.

I recently got involved in a altcoin that you will actually be able to use for something else then just trading. MCPC will launch soon, coin specs just came out. It's a mn coin that will be used for buying prepaid phonecard in Croatia and phone accessory, and the expand to more European countries.

Altcoins are not the only coins that are being used in gambling, even Bitcoin is used in gambling, and majority of the gambling platforms makes use of Bitcoin than they do with altcoins. I don’t see any use for altcoins in the future except for what they are being used for this time around which is investment and making transactions.

That's right because with the altcoin it can make one of the earnings that the partners will get from Bitcoin. because both of them are mutually beneficial and produce at any time while there is still a price

Of course every coin want to being use for transaction that replace CC.
In order to gather massive investor, the project owner must think hard on how they promoting the token because there are so many coin that want to achieve the same thing.

Here in my country we have some altcoins that can be used here through our exchange that we had it now, which is Ethereum, Ripple, and BCH and of course Bitcoin, any among of them can be use as payments in billings, mobile load, internet, tuition fee's, and can also be transfer for incoming savings, something like that.

Every altcoins has its specific usecase.  It think most altcoin will be used for transaction validation i  their respective field

Nowadays many altcoin has been created and all of them have different purposes so I think altcoin will also have use in the future like bitcoin. As a matter of fact many altcoin are already have use right now and some of them can be use in exchange stuff in online.

Some altcoins will be used it some ways of making life easy, but I know that a lot of it will be useless and will have no use at all.

I still think banking is the number one place it needs to be implemented on. There are banks that is trying to figure something out with Ripple and trying to find a way to connect all bank accounts around the world with the blockchain of ripple in order to make sending money a lot quicker, a lot more secure and a lot cheaper but it is moving at a glacial speed for now.

The moment banking is really putting blockchain to the test and actually getting a great result from it, other places will start to adopt that same thing as well, when you tell any company "HSBC and Citi all use this software" it will be much much easier to convince them. Medical centers, pharmacies, sports, gambling, real estate and many more like that have a huge spot that blockchain could actually fill.

IMO, it's difficult to see altcoin can be use in restaurant except it's popularity as high as bitcoin.
Even ETH that already reach 2nd position, I'm seldom to see any merchant that accept ETH.

of course my mind is different. gambling is not the only place for altcoins in the future. even for now, every altcoin has their own development, whether it's in real estate, program development, and other things. it certainly will make it easier for us to use altcoins in the future.

Most of the altcoins are developed to solve one ecomical or societal problem.  I believe that most of us do read the whitepaper of must of the projects that we do develop and how those projects could be used to solve one problem or the other.  In future most of the altcoins you see today will be like shares and stock and the altcoin market will be like stock market.

Trusting only some altcoins will not be helpful for your future because the investment that you are made me also be not valuable in the period of future that's why saving your money will also be very important for the future but it will not happen in all time some of the long term investment also be profitable in sometimes.

In future alts will be used for the exact same reason they're 'used' today - to get more dollars.

Useless did you think? You mentioned that some altcoins have a function to simplify work and life? of course that altcoin has that function will survive in the future, for example Ethereum. Ethereum has a platform for ico investors, and of course this facility will always be used until the future, so Ethereum will remain useful until the future

Yes, altcoins will be used in future because already you can see there are some coins being using by some retailers in different countries like Singapore, Venezuela, Malta and in the coming days this adoption will still increase more in the market.

Alot of project  that make crypto easy to use for daily transaction, just like pundi X.  By use this device we can make payment in crypto to buy good and service.  I think mass adoption of crypto will keep continue and blockchain technology will give more benefits.

Only a few altcoins are in development and tie-ups but whereas most of the coins are in pause stage with no movement of development the main reason is bear market

What makes the coin died or not is supply and demand. Even after all the Bitcoin supply has been used up to be mined but the demand for BTC is increasing, do you still call it as a dead coin ?
How about the project that promising a new vision but no demands so when this coin enter the market, there's no movement of volume at all

altcoins to be used in payments or in any other case even i dont think it will be possible because price should be very stable to be used in payments and to replace domestic currency it will not going to happen for many years 

The answer is in the development of some altcoins will be used for the future otherwise all of the kinds will not be profitable for the development so if the future will be allowed the altcoins to be developed it will be possible

I do not think the future is that bright for most altcoins at the moment as the whole market is depreciating everyday,probably the bitcoin future looks bright as its the king of the cryptocurrency sphere and definitely cannot die, but for altcoins,just like the OP said,probably just with an exception of a few I think the rest are just probably shitcoins

altchoin has many variations, but the top altchoin in the future is still very promising if we look at its development, so don't hesitate if we still have a trading spirit and support competition in trade, say the top altchoin is still interesting for now and future altchoin moves up is Etereum, Ripple and if we still double the safe position of course we have to invest in bitcoin.

I can see few branches where blockchain could be used, some possible uses for cryptocurenciess too (unless another technology will be invented - which I find very likely)

I think, altcoins would be used in all major places in the upcoming future. Mot only gambling but each other possible field. Even for now we can see a lot of new startups which accept their own token as a mean of payment on their platform. Their tokens maybe of not that use in the current markets but if the project goes well, they might alsos turn a stable altcoin ahead which will be used in major markets. Most altcoins now are used in gambling so does Bitcoin too but there are some altcoins that are for a specific use only and won't be used in any of the gambling. It all depends on how creative developers can get to bring real use cases to Crypto. We need strong teams that know what is needed in the market and what can make a difference. I think mostly cryptos will be used for payment gateway transactions, and if developers are clever to cash in on the remittance market, then that will be billions of dollars of use cases right there. For example, my husband is living abroad right now due to his job and he remitted me some funds. They are already used for that and are in my opinion kinda useless we are way past the stage of just wanting to use them for betting in my opinion.
We should be looking what they could really improve in our daily life!

i'm not sure if altcoins can be used in the future, but it is possible that real use will happen but it won't be for all altcoins, because each altcoins has different uses and functions for other purposes. so when the growth of adoption continues then of course it will have a tremendous impact on the use of bitcoin and other crypto which of course it will have a better future impact on a commodity

you can not compare btc with the altcoins. Btc was first ever currency to came into existence out of thin air that why it will be the last one as well for the investors to trust. on the other hand altcoin which have solid team and project will survive in the long run. projects with zero value or development will be dead
