1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Radix - Tempo Whitepaper on: December 30, 2017, 09:00:31 PM
That's just the start of our scale testing.

Next week we'll be adding more nodes, enabling sharding and shooting for 1 billion in 7 days or less.

From there we'll just keep scaling up the tests with more nodes and higher throughput.

Great news!

As someone on Reddit mentioned Radix is not only about fast transactions, but they're also working on a lot of cool stuff. Check this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMw7hQ6x2f0&feature=youtu.be
All you need to do is to buy an empty debit card and a debit card encoder, program it and use it in an every-day life. Sellers don't even have to install firmware upgrade to their POS. No intermediaries, no excessive fees or whatsoever. Very cool indeed.

Radix is building the future.

I watched the video and was amazed!
From the little I know, a standard POS accepts only EMV-certified chip cards and the firmware won't let just any card open up communication with anything other than the acquiring network.
What you're doing looks like you are bypassing a VERY secure device such as the POS and you're making it function out of its specs.

By doing that you're actually taking money off the banking networks. And banking networks control 100% what's in their POS.
So even if this works today POS firmware would be quickly updated to lock this out.

I'd very much like to hear more tech details on this. It's a killer function as far as widespread adoption is concerned!

2  Local / Ελληνικά (Greek) / Re: Χρεωστικές κάρτες με Bitcoin [INFO] on: September 04, 2017, 09:43:46 AM

3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Should We be Afraid of BIP 148? on: June 20, 2017, 08:12:57 AM
Going through bitcoincore.org, you can see that Segwit is included in version 0.13 and we are now at 0.14.2, so Segwit not only is supported by core developers but it is thoroughly tested and already present in all current versions.

It is the activation of segwit that causes all that uncertainty as the activation is user initiated by UASF and has met with opposition by miners, most notably bitmain, who even threat with hard forking.

A smooth, soft fork transition to segwit will significantly strengthen bitcoin and will drive prices much higher.
A hard fork by a significant percentage of hash power will create two coins and a long period of uncertainty.

This uncertainty will quickly drop prices so that the two new bitcoins (the legacy/segwit one and the bitmain/bitcoin) together will have a much less value than the old bitcoin has now.

I believe soft fork segwit will dominate and bitcoin will smoothly continue its course.

Having activated segwit, the scaling / fees issues are NOT resolved but certainly relieved a lot.

This fact, along with opening the road to Lighting in a year or so and other Layer 2 applications, is going to sustain and increase the value of bitcoin and the role it plays as crypto-gold.

Signal for UASF segwit!

I'm looking for the market to tell me this.

The filter I use is: keep an eye on top 20 in market cap.
Then follow increasing 24h volume.
Once volume is steadily increasing for a number of days, get in.

This method got me into DASH when it was trading at $20... and on ETH when it was $40
I'm now entering XEM (or NEM) although I must say I don't much like the activity around it: it has little to no social mentions and even it's own forum isn't that much active.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So looks like NEM is going to be the next Billion Dollar Coin on: May 21, 2017, 07:37:00 PM
For a coin that is doing 9k BTC in 24h volume, there is awfully little in social networks.
Can't find any activity even in their own forum.

I wasn't following this coin and it just came into focus because of this sudden rise of market cap.

Looking into its blog at https://blog.nem.io/ethereum-versus-nem-the-obvious-choice/ it seems the market is moved by few insiders.
I read "NEM was built from scratch and has been tested by many banks and big corporations."
So that's why there is nothing to be found in github...

They are claiming nex can support thousands of transactions per sec as opposed to ~15 per second for ETH. Is this true?

It seems we have a ripple-type blockchain tech here, and as far as mainstream, closed-source tech is concerned, it may be a winner.

Any one care to enlighten me on this?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: September 01, 2016, 09:14:38 AM
It's September 1st now and it's going sideways between 0.015 - 0.014
This was such a huge pump that people can easily make money even if price goes down to 0.013, buying volume spiked around this price on the way up.
Unless one is truly convinced about long term value this is not the time to buy.

Suppose that the USD supply was limited to just 21.000.000 USD for the whole planet and the whole existing money supply.

Given that the USA current debt ceiling is standing at 16 TRILLION USD, just to cover this debt alone, the value of each "limited supply dollar" would have to be 761,904 "unlimited supply dollars".

It seems to me that in the long term there can only be two possibilities: either bitcoin will just disappear or remain the play-money of a very limited geek group or will rise in value to the six digit value against the "unlimited supply dollars".

10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Miners Paybase Paycoin unofficial uncensored discussion.ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: January 27, 2015, 08:15:13 AM
I know people from Hashtalk read this thread & I just wanted to post this. I had purchased physical miners from GAW over the summer & later had a couple of Hashlets, which I sold shortly after. I have been following this whole thing from the start, when the Hashlets that will always be profitable started paying people a fraction of a cent. I have no money tied up in GAW now, but I have witnessed this whole thing unfold like the rest of you. I don't care about XPY either way & have tried to be as objective as humanly possible. I am no seasoned investor, but if there was money to be made from GAW, XPY or mining, I would be in.

First, even if we were to ignore a lot of the events pre-XPY launch. The non existent miners, the secrecy of GAW, Josh's previous failed ventures from before GAW Miners, etc.. The $20 floor, regardless of the excuses, blame & backpeddling by Josh was a huge clusterfuck. Let's assume he had the best of intentions, to later say he was unaware of the legality of manipulating the market, that people misunderstood his postings & it's the fault of dumpers & a coordinated effort by XPY haters. Have any of you asked yourselves, which excuse is the correct one? How do you have any faith whatsoever after such a huge display of incompetence by a company? Seriously, try to take a look at the $20 floor fiasco from the perspective of someone not invested with GAW, step outside your biased GAW box for a moment & be honest with yourselves. The whole $20 floor thing is just ridiculous & that alone should be enough for you to get out of XPY & run from this company. But you stay & cheer this guy on?

Then, after the $20 floor fell through & people started asking questions, Josh challenges another respected industry insider to a public debate, only to turn around & say 'let's have an email debate'? Then he goes to BTC Miami with a promise to hold a Q&A, then abruptly cancels. Sure he had an excuse for cancelling, like always, then why not an online Q&A a few days later? You surely can't be buying the excuse that he is too busy developing features, but has the time to visit Tesla, post on his forums & do seminars for his church, can you? Why are none of you XPY holders saying WTF & DEMANDING he do this debate or an open Q&A? After all, since you all cheer Josh along every step of the way & have such faith in Josh's vision & this coin, Josh would surely come out of any debate victorious, right? An Honest Q&A would surely sooth investors, no? If Josh's promises of features with no ETA is enough to pump this coin up by 25-50 cents, a debate where he came out victorious would surely pump this coin a lot more, no? Why are you not on Josh to have this debate? How could you all be cheering this guy on? I don't get it. Not to mention that Josh was a no show for the mining panel. What an unprofessional thing to do at a conference he himself was a sponsor for.

To you Hashtalk members lurking here. How in the hell do any of you who hold XPY manage to still believe in this coin, let alone defend Josh or GAW as a company? How do you manage to still have hope that this coin will turn around? How do you put any stock in any statements from Josh whatsoever? What I, as well as all of you, have witnessed just blows my mind. His forum posts are sad & pathetic. The promises of features that never materialize, saying they have contracts when they do not & playing semantics with their words is just over the top. I had to agree to the TOS when signing up for BCT, but for me to go around telling people I have an agreement with BCT would just be stupid. Well that is what Josh did with Gyft & others. I suppose you can blame coinfire or other bad press, but the shit has been hitting the fan with XPY long before those articles. Josh's latest statements where he acts like GAW is a huge company that has no obligation to respond, like he & the company are taking the high road is just nonsense. Can you not see this?

When I hear GAW & Josh will not prove they have investors or holdings & they don't feel they should dignify their detractors with a response, I think of the recent McDonalds video. Now McDonalds is a huge company, with tons of money. They have a product that everone knows is unhealthy for you, yet they still have tons of people buy their food daily & are hugely successful. Recently, when McDonalds took a beating in the press about their manufacturing process & how they source ingredients, how did they respond? They could have said we are too big to respond, big companies don't need to respond to stuff like this. But instead McDonalds turned around & put out a video showing exactly how they manufactured their food. How is it that McDonalds can respond to slanderous articles without merit, yet GAW can not? That's right GAW is too big of a company & according to Josh, that is not how big companies operate. Tell that to McDonalds.

Now, I am reading posts at HT where Josh can joke about Coinfire's misfortunes, ask members for legal help, despite having hired a great law firm days ago, but can't post & answer peoples questions in the Paybase buyback thread? These are the people who still have faith & invested in his vision. But he can't monitor the buyback thread & answer simple questions? Seriously? The buyback is what the GAW faithful really care about, but Josh is silent. Are you people really going to send him your XPY? Do you really believe you will get your money back? I AM JUST ASTOUNDED! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

Excellent post!

I'm also following this whole thing since the days of hardware miners and I've come to think of it as a huge sociological experiment.

It is an experiment on how much stupidity and failure can customers accept and still keep their "faith" and still keep buying.

There is not a single moment in GAW's history that isn't full of bullshit, total incompetence, moronic statements, elementary technical failures and downright fraud.
Yet, we are now into 2015 and people still wait for the ... $20 buyback...

Like mcni77 said, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

So...Vik is buying Paycoin2 because he missed the boat on Bitcoin? "I consider is getting into Bitcoin when it was $4". So dense... Did I miss something that wasn't complete and utter stupidity in his PM or was that really all that was coherent and correct in that huge, misinformed, wall of text Vik took the time out of his day to write? It's almost like trying to lead a horse to water with these people. They seriously lack some basic human traits. Even mice learn not to take a certain piece of cheese after it electricutes them over and over.

He just really is that dumb. Just for fun, here is one of "ViK's" earlier messages. I might have started our relationship by asking him if he was retarded or just a paid shill.

"Thank you for your constructive criticism.
I’m neither retarded nor am I paid for this. What I am is realistic.

Paycoin has the potential to bring this medium to main st. It isn’t perfect, and it isn’t yet what was promised, but at least it has people working on it, not just two teenagers in a student apartment like most altcoins.

[/end quote]

Agreed. Judging by results, PayCoin is certainly not the work of just two teenagers in a student apartment. It is the work of ten teenagers partying all day at the expense of idiots who think copying peercoin code is somehow related to development... Grin Grin

As far as I can tell from the internet, to call an action a fraud requires that it has three elements.

  • a false statement or misrepresentation of a material fact
  • intent to deceive
  • damages as a result of the deception

The first one is easy peasy, as there are plenty of records of falsehoods that were later edited out of existence, most notably the magnitude of the price support behind XPY. You can also add merchant support, etc. as things that were misrepresented.

The second is a little trickier. They can attribute a good number of the false statements to internal communication errors. The trick here is to get access to their internal communication. I'm guessing that those message board posts the CEO made prior to all of this, while not absolutely conclusive, might be enough to get a warrant for internal emails and private online messages.

The third one is trickier than it sounds. The most brilliant move they made was to convert those hashpoints to paycoins and let people sell them on the market. That reduced the number of potential claims, as most people who wanted out at that point sold their coins, at a profit, to those who wanted to stay in. This is in line with a lot of the private messages that have been posted on the board. The CEO didn't want customers who asked questions or otherwise didn't agree to follow him blindly. He banned liberally anyone who wasn't on board. That way all of the liability lands in the hands of a few true believers who are likely to blame external forces (dumpers, regulatory agencies, etc.) for their losses instead of GAW. They can probably handle a couple of malcontents with decent settlements. The people who didn't buy in completely pretty much all made money or broke even.

No, the intent to deceive is proven by the fact that at the time they published their whitepaper and at the time they announced support of big merchants they fully well knew that they were lying. Their announcements were crafted to create false anticipation and they represented false facts such as Amazon acceptance as true.

Nothing to add...

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime: Afghanistan opium plantations now 154,000 hectares.

World Wide Annual Turnover of Narcotics: $500 billion

Silk Road Turnover: $1.5 billion

Total BTC market cap: $2.8 billion

Hmmm... It seems that Silk Road accounts for a whopping 0.3% of annual drugs turnover...

I guess the remaining $498.5 billion are paid in DOGE

I'm fed up with every moron pointing the figure to BTC for drugs / crime activities as if crime didn't exist prior to Satoshi.

Idiots should be reminded that for the last 4,000+ years humans commit crimes in quest of government sanctioned, centrally controlled, totally policed, perfectly legal, court supported, fully banked  F I A T   M O N E Y.

One of myriad sources:
http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-spoils-of-war-afghanistan-s-multibillion-dollar-heroin-trade/91

And since this thread is about the price of Bitcoin, it seems to me that BTC must be VERY unattractive to drug tycoons.
If only 10% of the drug volume decided to use Bitcoin, we should easily see BTC @ $2,000

So that is it? The guy just stole in front of our faces, more than 1 million in cryptocurrency and nothing can be done?
That is one of the reasons crypto will never be mainstream, unless there is some regulamentatios.
This is just ridiculous.

Assume Responsibility for your finances!

Crypto is freedom and freedom means you assume responsibility. You can't expect "higher authorities", the "state", the "regulations" or the "police" to take care of your life.

If you are a grown up, mentally fit and free individual, you have both the capabilities, the mind power and the freedom to take care of financial risks ON YOUR OWN!

Sadly, the majority of today's population are zombies that expect to be fed, protected and taken care of by some one else. Zombies are not worthy of crypto...

If you're over 18 and able to use the internet, you are NOT excused from believing that anything offering 100% returns isn't a ponzi.
Participating then in a ponzi with the full knowledge that it is a ponzi is YOUR OWN RISK and YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

Nobody should interfere with this freedom.
Unless of course you subscribe to the idea that since you have a drinking problem, alcohol should be made illegal....

@daffy whats really hurting crypto is the lies josh told me to get me to get involved, will set a floor at $20,will buy your xpy at $20 up to $700 a week. You can buy at amazon walmart etc.You might shout Josh is the second coming on hashtalk but you are hiding the fact your selling off your account like other admin/mods on there but lie about it.Like josh your are just an out and out liar but the fact your admin you know about the scam and will go to jail with him.Better tell the wife you can lose your house over this when you are all sued

So where is your proof that I'm selling my account? Can you prove it? No You can't so what am I supposed to say to that? I can not prove that I'm not selling my account. But I know the truth.

What is really hurting crypto is all the people that go around acting almighty and accusing everybody that the THINK are doing something wrong. GAW is not a scam and never will be a scam. They promised stuff yes and they could not deliver does that make it a scam? No it does not it just proves people make mistakes.

Is that what you really think? They just promised things and just made some mistakes?

What kind of pills are you taking?

The very definition of fraud is to present things as true when you know they're not in order to secure for yourself financial gain.

Josh Garza and GAW knew very well that there was no 100million fund, no plan to stabilize the price, no big investors, no Amazon or Walmart association, no nothing, and deliberately, purposefully and with clear intend of getting money out of the pockets of their customer-victims presented those things as facts.

Which part you don't understand?

Which part is disputed?

The financial gains GAW has accrued because of those deliberate lies?
That all of the above are lies published in full knowledge that they are false for the specific purpose of luring in their victims?

The burden of proof lies on GAW's shoulders. When I publish I have 100million to support the price and based on that declaration I'm selling fucking wallets for $16 a flop, don't I have to prove I'm telling the truth? And you call that a "mistake"?

GAW's customers were defrauded off their money because of deliberate lies and that is the very definition of fraud.

Josh has to provide solid, unquestionable evidence that:
1. He had indeed secured 100 million for coin support when he went public with this announcement
2. He had indeed secured Amazon and thousands other merchants for his coin when he went public with this announcement
3. He had indeed opened and funded accounts with all exchanges to support paycoin at the floor price he announced - not promised, announced
plus a myriad more...

Until the time such proof is provided, he is suspect of committing criminal fraud that cost huge financial loss to a great number of his customers.

Pathetic excuses like the NDAs and CFTC not letting him support the coin and words that are taken out of context and misunderstandings are just that: pathetic excuses targeting total idiots.

Once you have that stench on you it won't ever wash off. People will always accuse you of being a GAW scam.

I am not going to put you on ignore, that's not my style, your welcome to your own opinion - and I will defend your right to have your own opinion, and as someone who doesn't know me personally, you cant judge me.

Whilst I was a moderator on HT, I was not, never have been, nor ever will be, a GAW employee.

I also understand that Mud Sticks, and that some people can be incredibly narrow minded

I'm not judging you, I don't really care I'm just saying others will because there are lots of kooks out there that see a conspiracy everywhere  Roll Eyes

Sorry, this is witch hunting...

We can't hold anyone responsible for GAW except the very narrow circle of persons driving the whole scam: Garza, Mordica et al.

Being a mod does not automatically mean one has any active participation in the scam. GAW started as a legit company offering mining hardware and the move to the cloud was something that made sense at the time. Things are not black and white and when it comes to scams, no scam starts with flashing lights and sky-high signs WE ARE SCAM - WE ARE SCAM...

One gets involved and then it takes time to realize that things go wrong. The deeper one is involved, the harder it is to admit that this is wrong, the more one gives the benefit of the doubt, waiting for things to come as expected.

We can't blame people for taking part in GAW just for taking part. I was an early customer, I have bought hardware from them and gradually became involved only as customer. I have been shadow banned in HT for speaking my mind so I know the toxic, fascist environment HT still is. However, I can not and will not hold each and every moderator responsible for the actions of the inner circle of Garza.

I support BitCoin since 2010 for the FREEDOM crypto brings to our lives. Only very few people realize that with FREEDOM comes RESPONSIBILITY. And this means that we ourselves have to take responsibility for our actions and judgement. If the whole fuss about GAW scam is to protect the innocent then let's start by being sober, serious and JUST.

Seemingly from reading Hashtalk paybase wont let you sell xpy ..strange?

I can verify this is being going on for days.
It seems another pathetic attempt from keeping people dumping xpy.
Once you login and do the authy code you are greeted with an "Error - can't process at the moment" message.
True in the GAWsome spirit, this "moment" lasts for DAYS...

I have liquidated all my account in GAW since a long time now but left 25 xpy to watch the show.
Well, those 25 xpy is impossible to move from paybase for the last 3 days now!!!

Have you tried 24.999? It might have forgotten to telling you that it needs a transaction fee.

Just tried again with 12 xpy. I have used paybase to sell xpy the second day it got online with the same mobile, same computer, same everything.
That time worked perfectly. Now all I'm getting after entering the authentication code is:

Of course I've opened a support ticket a day ago. Given GAW's track record I'm not expecting a thing from them.
I was thinking this is another tactic to lock xpy away from the markets but their incompetence is such that it may as well be just another bug in the pile of bugs they've been creating every day.
