bad cold sucks but is really no big deal
bad flu can kill you

Caught the flu twice in December. Developed into a nasty dry cough towards the end of fighting off the second flu. Never felt worse in my life before. Doctor diagnosed me with "Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome" and the lung x-rays results showed signs of mild bronchitis.

This sounds like the same flu that swept the southern hemisphere last winter ... the nasty dry cough will linger for weeks and relapse flu bouts for 2, 3 or even 4 relapses about 2-3 weeks apart.

Also watch out for people with heart conditions, the virus appears to be attacking lung and heart muscles, cases of flu-induced heart failure were being reported, especially amongst the elderly.

oh. fun.

Dude put me on Z-Pak for 5 days (antibiotic), Albuterol inhaler, and QVAR inhaler corticosteroid to reduce inflamation. Platelet counts are higher than normal, likely due to fighting off the infections, but seeing a hematologist some-time this week to get the official rundown - Currently taking baby asprin every morning to thin my blood out a bit in the meantime.

Getting old fucking sucks.

z pak here too, among other things. like you said in a later post, test wasn't clear, so overly cautious. yea, this was nasty... and i'm not that old, i can't imagine for people my parents age.

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: YouTube admits error over Bitcoin video purge on: December 29, 2019, 02:35:46 AM
Youtube has purged videos in the past and there's really no stopping the. They have a monopoly on the video uploading market at the moment and the competition isn't even remotely close. They tried to do the same with firearms and ammunition videos after mass shootings in the US and have yet to reverse the ban. The unfortunate reality of that ban was they sequestered the ability to view safe firearm procedures over pressure from gun rights activists. Not sure if this was the same for Bitcoin but it wouldn't surprise me to see Google be anti-cryptocurrency. Can we take them at their word that it was an accident? Eh, maybe.

and they've had other issues with thier automation banning accounts totally incorrectly - not just youtube accounts, GOOGLE accounts. email, all of it, totally without cause, without report or flags even. then there's whole COPPA thing where videos have to be marked "for kids" or "not for kids" and for kids stuff gets no comments and massively reduced ad money - fine on the surface, and the result of a lawsuit they lost, in fact - but their automated systems are flagging things as "for kids" that are very, very NOT for kids...

there really needs to be a viable alternative to youtube... which i know i said before. just... restating the obvious i guess? i don't have any solutions, here.
11  Economy / Services / Re: Yobit.net signature campaign on: December 29, 2019, 02:28:22 AM
ok, i THINK i am usingthe most current signature, but like i see some others mentioning (  only glanced, i admit) my account is showing disabled due to inactivity, even though it's not been a week, let a lone a month.

what gives, and how to fix?

Seeing your post history. You didn't update your signature by the time cryptotalk change there signature codes and you didn't post that much since December. Most of your post didn't count which results for your inactivity. Maybe you stop posting when they are temporary stop paying user.

As the user said above. You don't have a chance anymore to join again on this campaign.

one strike and your out eh? well that's... fucking stupid, honestly. but, ok.

thank you for informing me.

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: YouTube admits error over Bitcoin video purge on: December 28, 2019, 09:51:16 PM
it really amazes me that with all the issues youtube has there hasn't been an actual competitor. like, ok, d.tube has been around for years. anyone use it much? i've never heard of it until today, myself.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any specific video channel for cryptocurrencies same like bitcointalk? on: December 28, 2019, 09:49:59 PM
as we see discussed over here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5212947.0

the youtube thing was apparently an error. that thread also high lights D.tube or something like that as an alternative. i've never heard of it myself, but perhaps its what you're looking for.
15  Economy / Economics / Re: What if crypto vanishes? on: December 21, 2019, 06:42:09 PM
What will happen if crypto vanishes overnight or due to some or the other reason if crypto becomes inaccessible to public? I know this does not make sense as crypto will not vanish but still what if it happens? What about those huge chunk of investments made by whales and other investors?

unless you can suggest some remotely possible way this could actually happen, there's no point in discussing it, because it won't happen.

like, "what would happen if a pig suddenly sprouted actual, feathered wings and began flying?" it ain't gonna happen, so why discuss it?

i'll go further though - in bitcoin's case, it can't happen. not "overnight" anyway. you'd have to see access to the internet entirely cut, globally. and if that DID somehow happen, we'd have MUCH bigger problems to worry about.

maybe i'm wrong - but come on. without a plausible "here's how it could happen," we might as well talk about what we'd do if we grew a third arm.

i made a mistake and tried to follow some of the lines in that mess. argh...
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin should adopt a multi-algo PoW consensus mechanism on: December 21, 2019, 02:51:04 AM
the quality of the idea isn't the problem - it seems fine to me, but it's outside my expertise - the issue is the difficulty of the change.

you would have to get people like bitmain and canaan and EVERY OTHER miner AND user of bitcoin, far more than 51%, closer to 90%, to adopt the new code. and make no mistake, it would, in effect, be a new coin entirely. unless absolutely everyone transacting in BTC upgraded to the new software, the old would remain, and would still function.

there's no way to change bitcoin's POW without forking and creating two bitcoins.

I would prefer not to work at all, frankly.

Curse of the drinking class.  Cool

Where do I sign up for drinking classes?

Only problem - it's in the middle-of-nowhere, Massachusetts

eh, makes sense... gets boring in the middle of no where.
19  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Verified, unalterable historical record via blockchain? may already exist? on: December 19, 2019, 01:38:05 AM

and it can only be used to verify whether the content was modified or not. it won't be able to show what the modification was. for example it could simply be an edit fixing a mistake (a typo in the article), or any change in the html of the site would result in an entirely different hash. so it won't be "unalterable historical record".

ah. right. hmm. good point.

i'm not exactly sure on HOW this would work mind you - is it some sort of bot scraping articles for dates, events, pictures and video? well if so, how do we know the articles are posting real things, and not, say, the onion and it's satire?

You can't, you'd need trusted human input for that. At best your project could be a decentralized alternative for archiving sites, but I'm sure someone has already tried it, so you may want to do some research and check if they succeed or not, and what's the current state of such projects.

As for fakes, I believe that they can be combated with the same technology that creates them - machine learning. If you can teach neural network to imitate something, you can also teach it to spot all those artifacts and other patterns that are present in fake photos and videos. As for articles, there's also neural networks that do sentiment analysis and can spot manipulative articles with some accuracy.

ugh... another good point.

as should be no shock to anyone here, i need to do a lot more research.

i kinda figured someone would have already heard of something like this and point me to it or just blow it full of holes right away. guess it was kinda a middle ground.

yea, the already existing archiving sites largely do this... maybe the route to take is speak with them about implmenting blockchain to prove their archives are genuine or something? i don't know.

bleh.
20  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Verified, unalterable historical record via blockchain? may already exist? on: December 18, 2019, 04:46:45 AM
as i already stated - i haven't the foggiest idea how to encourage people to mine it. that's kinda why i posted - to discuss it with people smarter than i am and figure out if it's even possible.

as the the storage issue - yep. it's a problem, and a big one. in theory you could do something like a hash algorithm and store THAT rather than the original article/video? like, you have an article from the new york times. you take the article, hash it, store the cash in the "history blockchain" (for lack of a better term...) and then, when someone wants to verify the article is unaltered, they grab it from the website, run the hashing algo, and verify the results match.

we'd be storing the tiny 100 character hash, not the original article/video/whatever.

at least i think that's how such algo's work, or can work anyway. i've seen a script for windows powershell to compare files to check for changes as part of version control software at a place i used to work. this was, very roughly, what was going on.
