101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Giveaway] [XCP] Counterparty faucet is up - be sure to put down your name on: March 16, 2014, 07:07:14 PM
Lets spread awareness of this currency.
Bump.

Xcp is the 2nd highest volume coin on bter!
Just for this weekend.
The typical volume during last week was around 25 to 35 BTC on Poloniex and probably half that on BTER.
We really need more volume, to ensure efficient distribution of the currency.

Bitcoin Tangible Trust

Here is some feedback.
Item 1:
Use Case:
User A purchases 10 "Gold Coins" from Bitcoin Tangible Trust. BTT issues 10 coins of type GLDAEA and transfers ownership to User A. User A sells these coins to User B, via the distributed exchange.

After 6 months, User B would like to take physical delivery of their gold coins. So, user B would contact BitcoinTangibleTrust, provide evidence of the private key and request withdrawal. Would this scenario work? As the original purchaser is User A , can they be traded on the distributed exchange?

For redeeming the 10 coins, the current process is to provide evidence of private key. However, this might cause some confusion as the 10 GLDEA coins will still reside in the wallet of user B.

Shouldn't the user be sending you back the 10 GLDAEA coins and provide proof of private key by message signing. Once the transaction is confirmed, you should probably destroy those GLDAEA coins(send it to a burn address). This will greatly simplify the accounting as the total number of outstanding coins will equal the number of physical coins stored in the vault. (Also, this will prevent User B from fradulantly selling the re-demmeded GLDAEA coins to User C).

Item 2:
Once the webwallet is released. You might want to consider marketing the Gold for Bitcoin service to the broader Bitcoin community and not just the XCP community.

Item 3:
This item is probably already on your list. Once the content for the website is finalized, you might want to consider hiring a professional Designer to give the website a more polished look.

Businesses and Digital Assets powered by Counterparty
  • BitcoinTangibleTrust - Bet and trade physical Gold on top of the bitcoin blockchain. A realworld business and asset that is backed by physical gold.

  • MPTStock and MPDollar - a dollar derivative and stock
  • XBTC - Bitcoin derivative

  • Others I might have missed ....

The vision is becoming a reality. I am proud to see what the Counteparty Devs + Community of Innovators and Entrepreneurs have accomplised. Lets keep at it.

Just a trivial question. Lets talk Bitcoin is launching LTBcoin on counterparty protocol. Should the LTBcoin users have some XCPs in their counterwallet to use LTBcoins?
Not necessarily. However, they may need a very small amount of BTC in that address for transaction fees. (0.0004).

I have a couple of questions.  I recently purchased some XCP on an exchange.  I have not yet set up an XCP wallet/client, and I will probably just wait until a Mac wallet is released, because I don't want to download yet another full BTC blockchain in a VM on my MacBook.  But I would like to get my XCP off the exchange for security purposes.

So, can I withdraw my coins from the exchange?  Can I just give it one of my BTC addresses, and the XCP will be sent to that address?  (I believe the answer will be yes.)  I understand that I will not be able to send/spend them until I set up an XCP wallet, and that's fine... this is more of a "buy and hold" investment.

Assuming that the answer to the first question is "Yes", is my BTC address now restricted in any way?  I understand that XCP uses BTC as a "transport layer".  Does this mean that my BTC address will receive some amount of BTC, with the XCP encoded on it somehow?  If so, I would have to be careful not to send out those "XCP marked" BTC.  Or is the whole thing handled differently, and I'm free to spend my BTC address down to 0 BTC if I want to, but my XCP will still be tracked separately?

I think I know the answers here, but just wanted to be sure before withdrawing my XCP to a BTC address that I use frequently.

The answer is "yes".

You can send it to any Bitcoin address for which you control the private keys. There will be no issues intermingling BTC and XCP in an address. You can verify the amount of XCP in the address at www.blockscan.com.
I would recommend you create a paper wallet and send those funds in there.

I still have XCP in my Electrum wallet, but I sent all my coins out and now have a 0 balance in my wallet.  Does this mean I just flushed all my XCP down the toilet?

You still have XCP in that wallet, you need to figure out
a) Which public address did you use for receiving the XCP
b) Check your balance using www.blockscan.com
(If you cannot find it go through the list of ALL the addresses in your electrum client, you can get this list from the GUI or from step c))
c) Export all private keys from electrum
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Electrum
(see Export and import addresses)
(before doing this make sure your computer is safe from viruses/spyware/keyloggers etc...)
d) Figure out the private key that corresponds to your XCP address

You should be able to take this key and import it into Bitcoin-QT and counterparty client to access your coins (or wait for the webwallet).
(or just keep the private key safe in a piece of paper).

The snapshot of PTS ownership for receiving Bitshares was on 2/28, so there was a run-up in price during the week or so before. After this was over, on 3/1 there was a big sell off, and some drifting downward in price since. I just picked some more up yesterday to take advantage of the low price, since it will be used for more genesis blocks for Invictus created and other Decentralized Autonomous Corporations (DACs).

nice one. might pick up some then myself. Do you think there is also more downside in XCP? ( I only ask because I know you are watching the same next gen cryptos)

XCP seems to have support around .0065-.007 BTC. I still expect it to go up to .05 in the next few months, with a gui coming out and new assets being added to its DEX. I was expecting it to reach .05 earlier, a couple of weeks from now, but it's had a few bumps along the way with a bug and problems at the exchange it trades on, Poloniex.

PTS seems to have bottomed out around .009-.0095, starting to rise slightly. It seems like the nex gen sector is range trading at the moment, with a bump up here and there, like MSC now, and XCP a few days ago.

BitcoinTangibleTrust
Will you be selling Silver on your site as well. The reason I ask is because the spot price of one ounce gold coins is > 1400$.
Beta testers/Early adopters of the service are not going to be spending large amounts. You need to get a few users on board for a smaller amount(possibly using smaller coins or sliver), then have them provide reviews and build trust in the community. Once trust is established larger orders will start to come in.

Great job guys and a valuable service.
The only thing that is needed right now is 'proof of reserves'. For example if you issue 100 gold coins. You need some form of proof/validity that you indeed hold the gold in custody (as you mention using industry standard procedures).
P.S - The link in the original post is broken.

Many burners are too lazy to install all the dependencies to sell their coins. Therefore, the web wallet may attract buyers slowly in long term, but bring a lot of sellers immediately.

Pretty much and besides, the web wallet would have already been priced in.

Expecting cheaper XCPs in the near future.

Yes, but at the current prices we are at 25% market cap of Mastercoin. A very attractive valuation.

(reinstall everything including python, git etc..., then
cd C:\
git clone https://github.com/xnova/counterpartyd_build
cd counterpartyd_build
